Daniel Ong - Profile

hi everybody

wow what a bunch of fun loving, cheerful, mavericks… wish i had known about shc much earlier…

just a little about myself; am 60 years young, single, an ex-human resource professional; contentedly retired and enjoying my gainful unemployment for the last several years;

presently i cycle 2 to 3 times a week from the marine parade underpass at east coast park to changi beach - albeit slowly; walk as often as the weather permits; and play tennis every wednesday at 7.00am at bedok sports complex; did some roller blading for a couple of months but gave it up as i wasn’t getting better at it…

used to enjoy social dancing and karoake before i retire but has not croak nor move my 2 left feet to music for quite some time since; after reading about all the dancing and singing thats going on in shc, i feel i need to catch up on lost time here…

i picked up some programming and web design skills on retirement but has since return same to the good lord above as i was not making much head way on using these skills to start some hr type business that i had in mind…is there an entrepreneurial group within shc?

currently am learning how to play poker and mahjong from books and would like to join any one who may be keen to fleece a new rookie… hasn’t had any practice so far…

on the personal front i consider myself a little on the shy side and is usually quiet and unassuming in a crowd; however given the opportunity will become more approachable and playful amongst friends…

i look forward to meeting all of you and experience some of the joys and laughter that seems to be so abundant and available here in shc…

simply happy…

    Daniel Ong,
    That was a nicely written profile. Don’t have to be shy at SHC. Welcome and have lots of fun with all the activities.
    Cheers :-)

    Hi, Daniel:

    Welcome to SHC. I used to enjoy cycling along that route, from Simei to the EC underpass, Changi Village and back by a different route. Had to give that up altogether for medical reasons.

    If you bike to the EC underpass on 17 Aug then head in the opposite direction, you will meet a big bunch of SHCians hanging out, enjoying themselves.

    Check out the post on SHC Monthly Gathering on 17 Aug.

    Cheers,

    Ron Koh

    Hi Daniel,

    Welcome to the Club! We do have dancing class every Friday at Clementi CC. Come join us and brush up on Cha Cha from 7.00-8.00pm. Samba from 8.00-9.00pm and Waltz from 9.00-10pm!

    Considering that for 8 lesson at $32.00, where can find? At $4.00 per lesson, I treat it like having a jams session but having a teacher to guide.

    So come along, male dancers are much in demand! We may have mahjong game, you may have to pay and pay to leatn!

    hi dan

    thank you for your thoughtful recommendation on dancing;
    yes $4/ is good value indeed; as for mahjong oh well…

  11. Dan Huang Says:

    Hi Daniel,

    I don’t mind playing small stakes to help novice in the art of mahjong. At our age it time to learn this interesting and exciting game of mahjong!

    Even our community centres encourage and allowed playing mahjong. Anyone who have the place for 4 persons to play mahjong can call on me, I can teach for free over a cup of coffee!

    If they is anyone who know of a suitable venue for mahjong, I can start a Mahjong Club!

  12. Mary Chan Says:

    Dan Huang.
    I know you get bored easily over small stakes in mahjong. I enjoy a game now and then, but I get put off by people who play aggressively, (not referring to you at all), and I haven’t been playing for a while now.
    If you want to, I wouldn’t mind starting again when I return mid Sept. Let me know.

  13. daniel ong Says:

    hi dan and mary

    its okay with me, sometime either in sept or oct; count me in;

  14. Koh Tong Seng Says:

    A potential mahjong kaki. Good for the brain and highly recommended by doctors for senior citizens. I have stopped for 20 years but now coming back to enjoy the game. Looking forward to meeting you. But as for poker, from my experience it is not a game to play among friends because it is a ‘killer’game. In other words either you kill or you get killed.
    See you at the next SHC gathering. Hopefully we(my wife and I)can be there as lately we are quite busy with our schedule and commitments.
    Cheers.
    Roy Koh
