Free wash and blow or Hair Perming

Hi all girls, I could arrange the above event from a Hair Academy(in China Town), as my daughter is a student there. This event is only for the ladies, it can even extend to yr maids or others, may be this is the way to save some money, right…

Anyone interested may list your name here…

Or through email….

JB Orphanage.. Donation & Charity

I am thinking of organising a visit to JB orphanage (date to be confirmed later) but prior to this, I have a mission to achieve thru’ collection/donation from the generous SHC members:

1.    Old toys (must be at least in working/presentable condition) but currently white elephants in your storeroom – care to donate them as I am sure these children will definitely be very happy to receive them.

2.    Old but still wearable toddlers to teenagers’ clothings – These children will need these for sure but please do not include g-strings or bikinis as these children don’t need them now lor..

3.    Daily necessities (consumables and non-consumables) but Dolly is not too keen to get these here in SG as these might create unnecessary stoppage at the JB custom and it would be much convenient to get these in JB itself..

I am always thinking taking some photos of this orphanage but somehow is always slip of my mind but will definitely make an effort to take these photos next time when I visited them again.

So, if any of you have the above to donate to them, please let me know by posting your comments here and I will get in touch with you on the arrangement to collect these items at your convenience.

Hope to hear from you soon.. Cheers.. Sam (Huat huat huat)

Patrick Lee SJ – Profile

Hello everyone at SHC, I am Patrick, 63 years old, retired.

Extrovert, volunteer at CC events, do volunteer work with SAGE.  I meditate, travelled, read and write on the net, and walking with nature.

Gracious ageing is another journey in our Silver years.  As we reminisce  our youthful days of joy and happenings, we know we will never rewind back the march of time.

And time is of the essence.  I will live my silver years with bountiful energy.  With time at our disposal, I am fortunate to come across SHC. I hope I can make more friends and acquire more knowledge and experience from the vast personalities in SHC.

But since I hv limited cash flow on hand, I might not able to cater any lunches for all of you, so I really hope that all of you dont mind paying the lunch at your own expense.

This Event will be held on:

Time : 12.30 – 3.30pm (Lunch will provided for those old and needy)

VOLUNTEER FOR DOG BOARDING

Hi all I am a dog lover and owned a dog once upon a time but my beloved dog has since gone to heaven. I would love to own a dog again but felt it unfair as I cannot commit the time to take care of it….However, I would like to volunteer to provide free boarding to dog lovers who plan to go for holiday and has nowhere to put their dog. I know dog boarding homes are horrible and no loving care is provided. But pls ensure your dog is toilet trained. Ciao…

If you have some unwanted toys, I would love to have them

I am going up to Mae Hong Son, highest and most northern part of Thailand from 23 – 28 Dec 2007.  Along the way, I would be visiting villages, farms and hilltribes.

And, I hope to give away used toys to the children during the year-end festive period and Christmas season.  Many of these kids have never had the chance to have a toy.  I hope some of these kids will have something to cheer, as we cross 2007.

If you have any unwanted toys in your house, and you like to give it away, please do donate it to me.  I am going to the Pot-luck this Saturday and the Talent-time on the 24 Nov,  and if you are coming, I would ask if you bring the toys along.  Sorry, wont be able to carry large heavy toys, as the airlines just charge too much for overweight luggage.  Thank you.

Things to give away

Dear friends,

If you know of anyone who is in need of them please write to me.

Please arrange own transport.

Warm regards

Every little effort of yours counts. With your help, we hope to narrow the digital divide and bring up the level of IT literacy among our members and also the less fortunates in our community.

I and my project members thank you very much.

OLD SPECS COLLECTION

A BIG THANK YOU to those who gave away their unwanted specs at the D&D nite, although the number collected is still far below our target.  Please note that the collection does not stop here.  I can arrange to pick up the old specs from you at a time and place convenient to you.  Do not hesitate to contact me even though you have only one pair available for my collection.

If you know of members who have unwanted old specs to give away but have no access to computers or are not aware of this project, please help to pass a word to them.  Looking forward to your support ….Many thanks.

Used PCs for SHC members Project

This is one of my favourite past times. I have been doing this since late 90’s on both personal and corporate basis.

I had personally encountered many elders like myself who have been deprived of owning a decent PC (at times even none) or rights to use one. They would also not foot out the money to get for themselves. Many a reason being that they afraid that they might offend or receive severe criticism from their children or friends.

I m just fortunate to have own not only one but three (a lappy and 2 PCs) numbers solely. My other family members have their own.

I believe its high time that I should push for such cause. Together with interested members here, we can help bring our non-IT savvy (dont know) members to the minimum level and not left behind in the digital divide.  Many may still not choose to pursuit but decisions are theirs.

Since all information about what’s happening in SHC is web-based, it would be good if members keep themselves updated by surfing the SHC’s homepage.  Being IT-savvy, it will give you an edge over getting information faster and better than those who are not. On the other hand, people cant take you as "handicapped".

So much for the blah blah blah. Let me take lead in what we can do with your help. We can go on a 2-prone direction by providing 1) hardware (PCs) and 2) software (home guided learning).

The Task –

1. Get members to donate their unwanted PCs.

2  Match and identify members (those who are not doing well or receiving no income and dont own any) who want to own the PCs.

3. Get members who wish or would like to provide home guided learning.

4. Match and identify members who need home guided learning.

5. Get members to form core group to refurbish the donated PCs at donors’ premises or otherwise.

Nothing is called achievement until the time you bring back the life of a machine that has reached its "EOL" (end of life).

Should we do not not to do, your responses are very important.

1st Meeting –
Date : Sat, 14 Apr 07
Venue : McDonald Restaurant at Toa Payoh HDB Hub (just outside bus interchange/above mrt)
Time : 4pm (commence) to 6pm (end)
Why Here : Free Internet Access and Convenience of coming by bus or mrt

Agenda :
1) Form the group and delegate tasks
2) Coordinate & receive donated hardware
3) Coordinate & despatch donated hardware
4) Guided learning (centralised and home)
5) Repair / maintenance services
6) Delivery and installation services
7) Stockup spare parts
8) Other related issues

All suggestions are welcome. If you have the time, please come along to join the 1st meeting otherwise, you can email your thoughts to me at lohyks@hotmail.com

Collecting old spectacles

If you have some old pairs of spectacles, sitting somewhere in the drawer, and you are not using them, do not throw them away.  There are many less fortunate people who have difficulties with their vision, and cannot afford new specs.  We can give these to them.

I have been working with Ivy Low on the collection of old specs.  So far, Ivy has collected 15 pairs of old spectacles from her family.  We have just started this project, and if you or your family members have some unwanted old specs, please contact Ivy Low or myself here.

I am targetting one hundred pairs of old specs, and once we reach this number, I would give them to a couple of old folks groups in Thailand.  You are invited to join me, once we fix a date.

Cooking Demo & Handicraft Group

I love to crotchet, make 3-dimensional origami swans, baskets, trays, jewellery-sets with beads & crystals & prepare to teach.

It will be good to have cooking demo in member’s home only for those non-working retired.

I am interested to teach handicraft or organise making of handicrafts to donate to old folks home for sale.
