Stocks Investing, Sharing of Experiences

Hi, fellow SHC members,

I would like to see similar interest members sharing there trading experiences here.  Hoping that we can benefit from each others experiences, be it good or bad but please by sure that its not going to be too personal and expect much HELP.

To start with, I am a trader with a local brokering house managing my own personal Fund only. My approach is Fundament and Technical Analysis. But mostly TA for the timing of my trading.

Invested thousands of $$$ on Investment Courses before doing Full Time as an independent Trader. If you are also a Trader, I am most happy to see if we can storm out some money making Strategy.

Thailand visit

My daughter, Louisa, from Melb. was planning to go to Thailand on 29/9 for a month with 2 friends.  Now the friends have back out and she has asked me to go with her.  I would appreciate some advice from those who have travelled to Thailand, e.g. where to go, hotel accommodation, etc.  I usually travelled with tour groups, and recently went to Krabi with some friends.    Any advice would be truly appreciated.  Many tks.

Monthly walk: 13th October 2007, Culmination

Greetings to all SHC members,

Our monthly walks for 2007 were conducted on the 2nd Saturday of each month, except February. It has been our pleasure to share some new as well as challenging routes this year.  We are delighted that many of you have enjoyed these trails.

As year end draws nearer by the day, let’s culminate this year’s monthly walks with yet another nostaligic walk, a journey through time, perhaps.

Majestic trees are the natural heritage of our Island.  They serves as important green landmarks of our Tropical Garden city.  Some trees take more than hundreds of years to mature.  The world’s largest rainforest is in the Amazon River basin, BUT the oldest rainforests are found in Singapore! and Malaysia.

That’s ,,, our Botanic Gardens! a dynamic and living monument.  The Gardens at its present site was founded in 1859.  It has come a long way evolving into a leading equatorial botanic garden of 52 hectares.  Today, the Gardens, which is more than a hundred-years old is a "star" visitors’ attraction!

It seems like yesterday, our walk at the Singapore Botanic Gardens but, as I scrolled through the past walks, it was rather a long way back…..Sept06.  Some had then, requested to take the trail again. Though many months late, here it is, to fulfill certain wish!

Come, Be Enchanted by our Gardens…..’lights off’ at midnight.  emoticon

Start Time: 4.15pm

Duration: approx 2.5 to 3 hours.

Date: 13 October 2007 (Saturday)

Meeting Point: Botanic Gardens @ Tanglin Gate, one of the major entrance. At the junction of Holland/Napier/Cluny Roads(traffic lights).

Getting there: by Buses via Holland Road: SBS  7, 105, 123, 174 and SMRT  75, 77, 106.  Alight at the bus-stop at the after US Embassy (after Tanglin Mall) OR if you are coming from the opposite direction, alight at Gleneagles.

Car Park Facilities: at Singapore Botanic Gardens’ Visitor Centre, Tanglin Gate and Public Parking along Tyersall Avenue.  Standard fees apply.

Within the Gardens, there is the Taman Serasi Foodcourt; the Halia Restaurant at the Ginger Garden (was told that it serves good food at a price) or head towards Orchard Road for dinner and to chill out.

Look forward to seeing you at this Last Walk of the Year.

Register here.

Need clarification, drop me an email : chrischan5575@yahoo.com

Till then………Stay cool!  Be cool!     emoticon

Tentative schedule for next walk: 12 January 2008.

You shall hear from us…… Charles Wee, Veronica Wong & Christina Chan.

Save the Fishes

Question for aquarium enthusiasts. How to stabilize the tank to prevent  fishes dying en-masse?

A thriving aqua eco-system has many benefits. Feng Shui can be enhanced if properly located. It gives a cool, aesthetic feel to your home. Combine with a water feature, it can be meditiative and thereupatic.

Share your experience as how to keep a aquarium buzzing with life.

A Potluck in the brewing, on Sat 27 October 2007

There is likely going to be a Potluck session coming up in October.  Likely to be Saturday, 27  October 2007.  The Event Organiser is currently surveying the place.  I suspect he is having a headache, thinking about how he can make this event fun and exciting to SilverHairsClub members.  No other information, except please keep this date in your diary, until the Event Organiser has come up with his plans.  Location will likely be Pasir Ris Park, near Pasir Ris MRT.

This date has been postponed.  The Event Organiser will make an announcement soon.

Do you know of a house/condo for rent?

If you know of a place for rent, not for a few days, but from 1 month to 1 year to a few years, please let us know here.  I shall get someone to organise this availability to members.

The place can be a house, condo or a townhouse.  Location can be Singapore, China, Philippines, India, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos or Indonesia.

Get one digital picture of the place, the street name (exact address not required), city, number of rooms, no. of bathrooms, dates availability, TV, internet, proximity to hospitals, markets and department stores, contact email address, mobile tel (optional), distance from airport and interesting sites and places of interests around the place, and finally the rate on a per week or per month basis.  Dont worry if the place is on the tree top, somewhere up in the mountains, on some rice fields, remote beaches or right in the middle of the city. Once you have the above details, you may email me all the above, at one time please.

Compilation will be done on the internet (www.2GreenDots.com).  Responses will go directly to you, via your mobile number or email address given.  When we reach approx 50 locations, we shall invite one or two members to manage this project professionally.

Hopefully, this will be another way of getting short-term retirement living or holidays started.  This idea came about from yesterday’s monthly gathering.  Have fun.  Let’s get started.

Pictures of 18 Sept 2007 SHC monthl gathering

The Sept gathering was just over.  Held at the Hans Cafe @ Great Eastern, this monthly gathering was divided into two groups.  The first – for the Retired SilverHairs, and the second – for the still working SilverHairs.  In some cases, we were not able to tell who’s retired and who’s still working.

The late afternoon to early evening sessions were very enjoyable, and many SilverHairs get to meet the people whom they have read about on the SHC forum, but not met earlier.

Here are the pictures, for your review.  Click here.

The Ghost Story – “Ending Wanted”

Yesterday (Saturday), I had a meeting with friends. In the meeting, one friend from Hong Kong (came to visit us) played a game with us. The game is that he told us a story, but with no ending. Then every one creates our own endings for the story. The ending must change the story into a ghost story. Quite interesting and would like to share with friends in SHC

The Story part is:

The time was approaching 4:30 am. An exhausted taxi driver was driving his taxi toward a cemetery. It seemed he was rushing home.

Suddenly, he saw a person dressed in long white waving on him. The face of the taxi driver started to turn a little bit green. He drove near the person and found that it was a girl with long hair. The hair was so long that her face couldn’t be seen clearly.

When the taxi driver stopped the car, before he had time to respond, the girl opened the door and jump into the back of the taxi. The girl sat there, lower down her head and kept quiet. Time stood still for a couple of minutes, the taxi driver seemed to have make up his mind and asked: “lady, where are you going, I’m going to send my cab to the next shift, some place I cannot take you”.

The girl raised her head slowly. She is a very beautiful girl but with a very pale face and bloodshot eyes. She told the driver: “Don’t worry, just drive around this cemetery until I tell you to stop”. Upon hearing this, the face of the driver turned greener.

The driver drove round and round the cemetery. The girl sat there silently. After a few rounds, the driver seemed have lost his patience and ask: “Lady, why you take a cab to go round the cemetery at this moment?”

The girl stopped for a while and started telling the driver her story – exactly a year ago, she and her boyfriend had been to clubbing. After that, they wanted more excitement and rent a taxi to go round the cemetery. When they doing so, an unexpected heart attack took her boyfriend’s life. She came here tonight to relive that moment, so as to commemorate his boyfriend’s death. ——- The story part ended here

The ending part is started as: “At this time, a cock crowing from the cemetery pierce through the silence in the air”  —- to be continued.

The story must be a real ghost story, the word count should be within 100 words, the shorter the better (Does this look like a composition homework?)

If you like to try, welcome. I should be fun. I’ll tell you the ending from me on the coming Wednesday.

A new category “Reflections”

A new category "Reflections" has just been created.  It’s about anything you feel like saying, and you want other SilverHairs to hear of.  Maybe you just woke up from bed, or during a lazy Sat/Sun doing nothing, and something strikes you and you feel you just have to share it with others, before you forgot what it was all about.

Maybe, you feel like eating a horse.  Maybe you decide that this is it, and you want to climb Mount Everest.   Maybe you just crazy over someone, and you just want to tell him "How about dinner?".  Perhaps you have a great home entertainment set, and you want 5 persons to join you, why not?  Go ahead.  You could be thinking of so many things, and nothing has happened so far, you want to share it with other SilverHairsClub members, just do it.  For jokes and stories, please use the Page "Non-SHC stories, jokes, info, etc.".

So, say it, and you can say it anytime now or later.  The administrator will not censor it, as long as club taboos are followed.  For this Post, the administrator is nasty, so no comments.  Just start your own Post. Have fun.

Lum : took time off from his busy sched, shared some warm up tips & helped

in moving the troupe along.

Andrew: strong supporter! helped in moving the group along.

DaisyP & RonaldL: took the challenge, definitely not ‘Time-out’ yet!

SHCIC – The Investment Club

The time line is imminent. Here’s an update and an explanation of what to expect. Most important how to best use the club to create the investment opportunity and to create the elusive passive stream of income.

It requires some commitment and effort from you to make it worthwhile. Trading is like running a business. You take risks for returns. There is no magic formulae. Practise makes perfect. The more you apply yourself intelligently to trading the better you will become.

Good-luck

A Merry Heart doeth good like a medicine.

Yes, laughter is the best medicine.  I am amaze at the thought of how the human being is form.  It says that the Great Manufacturer have a great sense of humour.  Why is it that our nose is right on top on our face and not form near our buttock.

Anyway, we are always attracted to a person who have a sense of humour.  A word of encouragement could lift up a sad countenance and give hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

So, if you have a good joke or an encouragement or enlightenment share with us. Never know you may lift up  a depressed soul!emoticon

Don’t Worry, Be Happy

Happiness is…emoticon

Researchers have found some underlying factors for happiness :-

>Married people are more content than singles, but having children does not raise happiness level.

>Education and IQ seem to have little impact on happiness.

>Attractive people are only slightly happier than the unattractive.

>The elderly (over 65) are more satisfied with their lives than the young.

>Friendships are crucial if you want to be happy.

>As much as 50% of the happiness factor is genetic.

RIP – The final nail

CPF is moving beyond the grave. Withdrawals are locked up in compulsory annuity. Work till you die for funds you are unlikely ever to see. Sell back the balance of your property to support the lifestyle that you deserve provided they gave you back your own money.

At least, we have eliminated sickness. If you are ill, you can’t afford to live for long. It is a convergent and self-terminating problem. You converge to the after-life in a zero sum game.

Leave nothing behind. You’ll likely go as you came. Naked to the butt. Shafted but not bowed.

What to do?
