Come October we will have a different venue for our monthly gathering. It will be another opportunity to meet new friends and catching up with fellow SHCians.
This gathering also coincide with the Flea Mart in the same venue from 1.00-7.00pm. The badminton group will have their game from 1.00-4.00pm. Depending on the responses, the mahjong session will start from 10.00am and end at 6.00pm. So folks, the facilities are booked for you, do avail yourselves!

At the last gathering we have a fantastic night!. Though it was sardine-packed, we enjoyed ourselves. When most of the members left for home, there was a group of die-hard members who dance the night away when the music was played!

Rosalind Lee and Mary Chan have planned a ladies only homecooked food potluck. It’s now thrown open to men.
Number of participants is limited to 20.
Participants are invited to cook a dish and share with other participants, not only the food, but their recipes as well as their cooking tips.
Dishes have to be homecooked by participants and should be enough for at least 6 – 8 persons.

I am thinking of organising a visit to JB orphanage (date to be confirmed later) but prior to this, I have a mission to achieve thru’ collection/donation from the generous SHC members:
1. Old toys (must be at least in working/presentable condition) but currently white elephants in your storeroom – care to donate them as I am sure these children will definitely be very happy to receive them.
2. Old but still wearable toddlers to teenagers’ clothings – These children will need these for sure but please do not include g-strings or bikinis as these children don’t need them now lor..
3. Daily necessities (consumables and non-consumables) but Dolly is not too keen to get these here in SG as these might create unnecessary stoppage at the JB custom and it would be much convenient to get these in JB itself..
I am always thinking taking some photos of this orphanage but somehow is always slip of my mind but will definitely make an effort to take these photos next time when I visited them again.
So, if any of you have the above to donate to them, please let me know by posting your comments here and I will get in touch with you on the arrangement to collect these items at your convenience.

A few days ago, we had our Sep monthly gathering; the event was so much fun. And all of a sudden, I thought of having a nightout at a nightclub and cabaret. Would it be nice if we are all part of this theme? Some of us may have bad experiences; but I hope you will look at what I am going to write next in good light and good old memories; and not think that I am some bad hat.
Some of us have frequented nightclubs in our good young days. For men, it could be a good night out with some young hostesses. For businessmen and businesswomen, a night out at the cabaret can bring in that difficult deal. And, for some men, downing a bottle of martell helped drown sorrows and sad memories.
Imagine yourself one night, during the late 70’s, on the 9th floor of Majestic nightclub and cabaret in Taipei. You had your car valet-parked by an attendant, and then you are up the lift with 3 other men. Very quickly, the door hostess addressed you as Ta Ker, and lead you to a round sofa. After you ordered your drinks, the mamasan came along, introduced a few ladies to you and your associates. Within a few minutes, everybody settled down.
Not very far in front of our table was a stage, with blinking lights. In the nightness, on the dance floor, was a group of men and women holding one another, around the waist and neck. After the second song, the numbers changed, and my partner just walked away, and I went back to my table.
The mamasan kept introducing us to other ladies; we kept drinking and dancing throughout the night, listening to nostalgic songs. Sometimes, we drank too much, and the bouncers would help us to our car, but not without paying the bill and tips. It was always a night to remember.
Again, I must warn that this is a bad habit of mine. I like to dream and when we have enough people to share the dream, we make that dream happen. You can take one of the roles, as mamasan, dance hostesses, businessman, lady guest, door hostesses, singer or drinks pourer. You can also be nightclub owner. And, for the men and ladies who have never been to a nightclub cabaret, you can come as guest, make sure you are escorted. Share with us your experience too.
Take this as a fun nostagic evening, among friends, a chance to show how naughty we were during our younger days. An opportunity to show how seductive and sexy we can be, an opportunity to sing love and hate Chinese songs from the 70’s, a chance to be a bitchy mamasan, and for some men, to show off how big the wallets are and how big the tummies can get. We can adjourned to the nearby teochew muay stall after midnight.
I would appreciate no one makes fun, insult or upset fellow male or female SHCian. The bouncers will have a say, if you can enter. This event is strictly for registered SilverHairsClub members.

On 17th September, it was a dark and cloudy morning… oh no, I thought…it’s going to rain… if it does, it would be most inconvenient for all the SHC members attending the gathering at Gillman Heights.
Fortunately, toward the afternoon, the dark clouds were blown away, and 17th September turned out to be a beautiful day…

To dispel misconception, here are the facts: The Gillman Heights owners received $870K to $930K. Yep – Gillman Heights owners are not millionaires. It was the Farrer Court owners who received $2million each.
For the Gillman Heights owners, it was a matter of poor timing. We simply have to accept reality, and move on with our lives.
We are sad to leave Gillman Heights…. Spacious, sprawling housing estates like Gillman Heights will no longer exist.
I hope that I did manage to greet each and every guest. If I missed some of you– again, please excuse me.
Many guests commented that you have not met me before. I must be “new member”, or that I must be “inactive member”.
Not really. I registered more than two years ago. I have met many other members during these events which I have attended:
Self-development Talk (Intercontinental vault), The MacRitchie Walk, The monthly gathering at Han’s café (nonya parade), The Investment Talk (Bali Lane), The Barage Walk, The Pasir Ris Walk, The Investment Talk at Raffles City Tower.
And, I have hosted Mahjong Beginners Lessons at my place, taught by MJ teacher Freddy Liew. I was actively “promoting” Feztus’ Yunnan Health Rejuvenating trip, the first group went in Feb 2009. And I am also the EC for the laughter exercise at Hort Park.
Enuff “lee lee loh loh”. Enough said for my “credentials” as a SHC member.
I look forward to see all of you at some future gathering.

Many SHCians must have made their plans to go away for this long weekend. I am also quite sure a number will stay in Singapore to enjoy the quiet surroundings. For some, it will just be a case of no plans; just staying at home to enjoy TV, Mahjong and maybe a few kakis coming to the house.

I join this forum about 1.5 years ago.
Before I join, I read about this new member who in his profile was writing about his marrital bliss and somehow it offended a few members, culminating in him withdrawing his membership. The members involved in this quarrel were both males as well as females.
Next, there was this male member who was disliked by other members for his ego and boastful posts. He was mercilessly attacked. Again the active parties were both males and females.
Than there was this male member who questioned if divorcees are as relax as happily married women. Of course he gets it from the divorced women but I was suprised that some men also join in the fray.
Of course none of you can miss this episode of 2 educated SHC men almost coming into blows during a party organize by SHC member.
Two weeks ago we had 2 guys quarrelling about who is the better IT guy and other men including yours truly(shame shame) took out our keyboard and join in.
This week, the physical confrontation between men which did not happen before was again revived and eventually stopped by Terence.
It occurs to me that ALL quarrels in this forum involves men. There are suppost to be much more female members than males in this club. Why are the women not quarelling among themselves but men are involve in every occasion. Do man become grumpy and quarrelsome when we grow old? What happen to girls when they get old……do they become more lovable?
Meet at rear of McDonald Restaurant Marina Cove (former East Coast Recreation Park). Rented bicycles are abundantly available at reasonable rates.
Activity will not be cancelled even if it rains but will be brought indoor to turn into chitchat session.
We will go for dinner 2gether after the session. Pls come n join us.

• 4.00 – 4.30 p.m. : Gather for chitchating, if possible inside aircon McDonald Rest.
• 4.30 p.m. : Proceed to bike rental kiosk, Coastal Recreation, to rent bikes.
Rental Cost is between $5-$6 unless fuel surcharge is imposed, the cost may be bit higher.
• 4.30 – 6.30 p.m. : Cycling around East Coat Park.
• There will not be any learning sesssion.
• 6.30 – 7.00 p.m. : All cyclists ride back to start point 2 return bikes n go for dinner 2gether.
• There will be a long 40km+ plus rolling off at 2.15 pm sharp from ECP to Loyang n back. Stopover at CV for light refreshment on return. Helmet is compulsory as we will be riding on the road throughout. This is good training for those going to Pengarang in the coming week.

Presently, we have a singer (yours sincerely), a guitar soloist, and a guitar rhythmist who is able to double as bassist or drummer. We intend to form a musical band to jam one or twice a week between Mondays to Fridays. Band equipment is already in place but venue will be decided and confirmed later.

I like the way the way you distort facts…refering to my mother’s private parts in Hokkien cannot be dismissed as simply "silly’…call a spade a spade.
I like the way you mentioned the showers(cold) of blessing incident with the comment …there was no fight..it gives the wrong impression you have mellowed and have matured and walkewd away despite being provoked.
Let me refresh SHC members’ memories…the incident happened at the "Golden Building" in Shenton Way where we were both guests. A famous country and western singer(local version) had a blow up with the honourable TL about "messing with TL’s hair with an umbrella and there was an outburst and some shouting. One party at my table(I have 3 witnesses who can testify it was not me and the person in question was willing to own up but as my guest I gave advice not to do so) mentioned the word " quarrel" and TL came over in a huff and aggresively challenged me to a fight. In the process he mentioned my dear mum with unsavoury and uncouth language. Some people who pulled him away were also challenged to a fight.
A few days later in the forum I explained that it was not me who said the word "quarrel" and TL even had the termity to say he forgave me and did not even offered a word of apology to this day either in person or in the forum.
On the shower of blessings day I asked him if he was willing to apologise and his reply was "NO".After being blessed I asked him not so politely if he wanted to discuss the matter but he politely(and meekly) declined….so much for the bravado of agressiveness at the Golden Building (I was mindful that I was a guest and did not want to be party to any incident) and refused to follow me for further discussions.
Regarding the blow up between YK and RL I believe there should be better moderation on personal attacks, insults and disguised four letter words being bandied in the forum. SHC management reluctance to get involved and "spank" verbally or in the forum the ones who go off tangent is contributing to this fractiousness among the SHC community. I have taken Terence’s advice but did not tie TL to a tree but blessed the unrepentant. Members like TL have provoked and insulted and he has not been checked (at least publicly) and it seems there is one standard of rules for him and one for the rest of the members. This could be my last say in the forum but I hope it open member’s eyes on the current state of affairs. I have seen people who gave investment talks being rail roaded by TL unfairly and nothing is done(at least not to my knowledge) to check this loutish and bullying behaviour.
This could be my last piece for the forum but to YK (not going into specific issues) I say "you dont deserve all the shit (at least in the manner it is hurled at you)you are getting for all the stalwart and unselfish work you are doing for SHC. Patrick Lee is entitled to a different opinion from you( I wont take sides or judge on issues as I dont know the full story) but I dont agree with mention of" skirts" and cosmetic surgeon" comments which are rather personal and insulting and uncalled for and degradatory and smacks of arrogance.
Anybody like Terence would like to play peacemaker/Sheriff and iron out their differences or is it too late?
I believe we need some discipline in the forum or it will become a cowboy town where every "onery"(ordinary) cowpoke can run riot and shoot from the hip on sight at any moving target as fair game) without any regard for decency and fairplay(fair comments).

This is prompted by Jassmine’s post on Barter …… and the suggestions that she raised. I believe that some had shown interest in my earlier post of opening my place for learning activities but then changed my mind. The reason was chiefly I spend very little time in Singapore and therefore unable to manage any activities held there. I hope to be able to manage this better with some help and my longer presence back.
Those who wish to visit my place to see if they like to conduct things there can let me know.

Currently, we have two active roles taken up by Yew Kwong and Dolly Lim. The roles are Website administration and Club manager. Both roles will run until end of 2010.
There are two other active roles, and they are the Pictures Manager and the Calendar Manager. The Pictures manager role is held by Oi Cheng, and this role will end its term in Dec 2009. The other role of Calendar Manager is held by Dolly Lim; and this role also expires in Dec 2009. Both Dolly and Oi Cheng have fulfilled the functions very well; no complaints.
Meantime, we will be looking for SHC members who are willing to manage one of these two positions in Jan 2010. Likely to be someone with time at hand, loves fiddling with internet work, known to other members and pretty active getting to know people and joining the different activities.

Hi All, just wanted to introduce myself. I register as a member last month in time for the monthly gathering. Had an interesting time learning a new dice game from Jane (thank Jane) but on hindsight I should have probably circulated around more. I am still working but am looking forward to retirement (not soon but inevitable). I like to do walks, cycling, read (chinese and english – prefer sci-fi), photo nature particularly birds. I visit pulau ubin yearly on pretext of looking for hornbills but really just to destress and enjoy nature. Have done the southern ridge and McRitchie walks a few time. Hope to meet more of you soon

For the month of September gathering, we have the honour to host it at Gillman Heights upon the kind gesture of Jacqueline Han, who make it possible by arranging the necessary logistics. 
This Gillman Heights Condo although aging in appearance (and severely need a coat of fresh paint) has wide open space with lots of matured trees and greenery. Other plus points are the "olympic length" swimming pool, and large wading pool. Also a good-size playround surrounded by greenery. For those want to have a swim before gathering, they are most welcome to do so. Ample parking spaces for car owners. Though not near to any MRT but easily accessible by bus.

Jacq had even offered to provide free flow of her famous (self-proclaimed) pandan tea. It is a refreshing iced drink, freshly brewed from pandan leave and tea with sugar added. Pandan leave contains anti-oxidants, and is highly recommended to counter the effects of heatiness caused by fried stuff and spicy food.

We never before had a monthly gathering at Condo’s function room but decided to give this a try, hence fellow SHCians come and support this gathering
We can have a Pre ‘Chong-Chew Jie’ celebration and I will sponsor two boxes of mooncakes to get these going but only 1 or 2 yolks kind 1 hor… 
And Terence is going to bring along another 2 boxes of mooncakes all way from Taiwan hor…
Function room is big enough host at least 60-80paxs and we can hv some light music accompany us thru’ the nite. To make the gathering more interesting, Terence will bring along the wireless mic with amplifier set. Anyone considering bringing along a portable DVD lar so that we can some singing 
For this gathering, as we are thinking of getting mini buffet (ard $7) hence, registration is a must for better planning for food, so come and register early…
