3D 2N Cameron Highlands Tour, 13-15 Mar 2010 (Sat – Mon)

Dear Friends

I am Event Co-ordinator for this event, and going on this tour.

Day 1 Singapore – Cameron Highlands (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Assemble at 0615 hrs for coach departure via Tuas 2nd link. First stop for breakfast, then onward to our destination – Cameron Highlands. Cameron Highlands is the smallest district in the state of Pahang which is located in the north western corner of the state. One of the wonders of Malaysia, it is the largest and most famous hill resort in the country.  This highland paradise still retains much of the charm of an English village. It is located on the Titiwangsa Range at about 1500 metres above sea-level, the temperature here can drop to 16oc or lower at times. Cameron Highlands is also the leading producer of flowers and tea in Malaysia.

Upon arrival, the first attraction – Flower Nurseries (Rose Valley Garden). The common flowers grown here are roses, carnations, chrysanthemum, dahlia, geranium, fuchsia and gladioli. You can buy cheap flowers at these nurseries or any market around the Highlands. If time permits, we will also visit Cactus Valley.  Be mesmerised by the myriad species of cactus of all sizes and shapes. Look out for the gigantic cactus.  Some can be as old as 60 years.  After visiting, proceed to hotel for check in. assemble at appointed time and proceed to dinner, after dinner free at own leisure. You can also visit the night market around the hotel area.

Day 2 Cameron Highlands (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Breakfast at hotel coffee house. After breakfast, proceed to Honey Bee Farms. There are three honey bee farms in the Highlands where visitors can learn about bees and honey production. You can also buy various honey products here. Lunch will served at local restaurants.
Next destination – Tea Plantation. No trip to Cameron Highlands is complete without a trip to the tea plantation. This is one of the main attraction that’s got to be in your “must see” list. You can visit the factories to learn about the tea making process and you can also sit down enjoy a cup of tea at the café (own expenses). The view overlooking the plantations is beautiful and perfect for the picture album. After visiting, proceed to Market Square. The market is a good place to look for all the produce the Highlands has to offer.  You can get everything cheap here if you know how to bargain. Dinner we will be having steamboat, having steamboat on a cold Highlands night is something you should never miss. Free at your own leisure at night.

Day 3 Cameron Highlands – Ipoh – Singapore (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

After breakfast, we get down from Cameron Highlands to Ipoh. This city is given another beautiful name as “Hill City” since it is surrounded by hills. Upon arrival, proceed to Ipoh’s famous cave Temple – Kek Lok Tong is Chinese words, which means Cavern of Ultimate Bliss. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. Next, proceed to purchase some local products, and please don’t miss Ipoh White Coffee. Assemble at appointed time and proceed back to Singapore. Dinner will be served on the way back.

Please do not give away your email address or tel number easily

As a guide, you do not need to give away your email address or telephone numbers to Event Organisers or Event Cordinators.  Large or small events can be organised successfully without having to do so.

Event Organisers or Event Cordinators are reminded not to ask for email addresses or tel numbers unless it is necessary.

Members who give away their tel numbers or email address run the risks of spams and unnecessary emails.

Ideally, you may do so if you know the organiser or the coordinator well.  If the event has started or and you are participating, the decision is yours.  With immediate effect, EOs or ECs may be asked if email collection is necessary for fellow members to join their event.

THANK YOU to all at East Zoners’ 1st get-together

Out of the 33 members who indicated their interest AND presence at the get-together today, 16th January, one sent her apologies for not being able to turn up and two just simply did not turn up. :(

My heartfelt appreciation to the rest who made the effort to turn up and socialize with other members including the new members. I also want to thank the Welcome Committee for helping to keep the conversations flowing throughout the 2 + hours’.

I hope someone else will take the initiative to organize another East Zoners’ get-together soon.

Thank you

Being a Parent/Parent-in-law/Grandparent

I am pretty certain that many SHC members fall into one or more of the above categories, and from time to time, might like to share some of their experiences.

I fall into all of the above 3 categories; mother of 3 daughters, mother-in-law of one and grandmother of one, second one due in April.  From my own experience, it is a breeze being a mother-in-law, easy enough being a grandmother as my daugter has great parents-in-law who absolutely dote on their first & only grandchild and hardest of all, being a mother.  Like most mothers will agree, you will never stop worrying about them, regardless of how grown-up they become, maybe more so, if you have daughters.

That said, I think that once they start working,  it is important we make time for ourselves to pursue our own interests.

Do u make your own Chinese New Year goodies? & would u sell any of your goodies to fellow SHCians?

Generally, SHC does not accept selling of products and services on this website.  This year, I think we shall give it a go, and see how organise or disorganise we can be if we allow the selling of CNY goodies on this website.

As long as you are a SHC member and make the goodies yourself, and that the goodies are not from a commercial organisation, you can use this website and take orders here.  You can state the prices and when and how to collect the goodies.  No tel numbers.  Email addresses are ok.

Can be kueh2, pineapple tarts, sponge cakes, "everybody’s birthday cake", roast cashew nuts, BBQ pork, etc.  Leave it to your imagination.  But, they have to be CNY goodies.

Please use only this Post.  This Post will close on 14 Feb 2010.

Happy New Year 2010 !!! emoticon

Time passed very fast. One year has passed and another has begun.

As I reflect on the numerous activities organised by SHC, how I wished I can attend every single
activitity as they are filled with fun, education or bond-building.

However, like many members, my time is limited and I can only attend a handful of events.

As such, how I wish I can cherish those moments I was there and if I was not present, someone
can record these events and organise them in one form or another for everyone to share.

So starting this year 2010, I wish to offer my service to put together pictures, videos and
anecdotes of as many events organised by SHC as much as possible. I will create a Video DVD,
one in the middle of the year and another at the end showcasing the humorous, exciting and
human aspects of you participating in those regular or ad-hoc activities from time to time.

To succeed, I would need the cooperation of EO/EC to send in the pix or short video (< 2min)
(can ask a photographer in place) and write a short summary of the event for my compilation.

Possible (and not limited to) events are:

Regular Features

Monthly meetings
Monthly Cycling
Monthly walk
Dance Lessons / performance
Annual Dinner and Dance
Travel Trips
Games / Sports
Educational Talks

Ad-hoc Programs

Potluck / makan sessions
Cabaret Nite / Star-in-Concert
Movies / Picnics
Special Talks (eg: on jewelry)

In short, any event which you think is of value, please send them to:

jamestancl@gmail.com

So EO/EC for various events and members in general, please feedback your input whether you support
this idea for the benefits of the whole SHC club and any suggestions you may have.

Note that this is not going to give you much additional work other than writing a good summary
and send the video separately as Oi Cheng can only accept photographs (need not send
separately to me).

I await to offer my humble service.

sincerely,
james

Featuring some SHCians in a seniors lifestyle magazine

We have been requested by a seniors lifestyle magazine Silver Lining to feature some of our talented SHCians.  Two SHCians have been identified, and they are Jane Kee and Ron Koh.  Jane’s talent in producing colourful paper flowers from magazine sheets.  Ron  Koh is also a talented origamist in Singapore, and while he is now with a stroke, he is recovering fast.  He hopes to join SHC activities when he gets in better shape.

They will be interviewed by the magazine soon, and we look forward to seeing the published work soon.
