Raymond Final Farewell

Raymond Tang Chew Weng passed away peacefully on Friday October 24th, 2014 at home. He was born February 4th, 1948.

Raymond Tang

The wake will be held at Blk 729 Woodlands Circle until Tuesday October 28th, 2014 at 10.45am. He will then be cremated at Mandai Crematorium

Raymong Tang was known to us as one of a few SHC members who dedicated his own time and finance in teaching other willing members on golf. He used to spent many weekday evenings at Marine, Sebawaing and Mandai in sharing his golfs’ skills and knowledge with a group of SHC members. We hereby wish him farewell to a journey well travelled

Best regards,
Dolly

Health and Longevity

A friend told me her brother- in- law (a Dutchman) is celebrating his 100 years old birthday soon. And this centenarian is as healthy as can be! What is the secret to his good health and longevity? I see much younger people already bedridden or needing wheelchairs.

What’s the use of living to 80s and 90s if one is suffering from debility? Hence I think it’s a good idea to ‘study’ the habits of healthy octogenarians and nonagenarians (or centenarians!) and try to uncover at least one thing that can impact health in old age positively.

There is a story in the *ST recently about a 99-year-old former principal who is still learning a foreign language. Every day he spends about four hours self-learning Italian. And he is so engrossed in his study he has no time to feel lonely. This made me conclude that serious learning will help keep dementia at bay. This is the one thing I would like to share with others and I hope to practice this one thing myself asap!  :)                              *Sunday Times 12/10

Do family duties make it difficult for you to pursue your leisure interest?

SilverHairsClub developed its main objective to provide a platform for SilverHairs, over 45, to meet new and more friends. Over the last 9 years, we get to understand our objective better, and whether it has served our efforts.

groups

The Council of Third Age recent survey revealed that many Singaporeans who have left full time work are not able to fulfil their leisure interests because they need to look after their family duties first.

Grand children to look after, keeping the house clean, get ready homecooked food and caring after an ageing family member.  Are you one of those who are unable to participate in SHC activities because you have family duties to do?  What percentage of your SHC friends do you know fall under this category?

Or are you within the 36-45% surveyed that say your reasons for non-participation in leisure activities are due to lack of money or because of age?  The survey added that most seniors prefer to keep to themselvces after they retired and may lack the courage to proactively intereact with others?
