  1. Ivan,
I am a OME (one-man-enterprise) and unregistered. Difficult for me to justify how to use the $10K grant.
Just can have a wishful thinking. Thks for letting us know.
What I am looking for, to serve Groups 2 & 3, is to have a Wi-Fi equipped room, say, monthly and FOC.

  2. Hew Lee,
Dun let the “One-Leg-Kick” stop you leh!!!
No harm trying – rite?? The worst scenario is that they say “no” – that’s all!
But I think Elim Chew may give you a second chance if you try hard enough, Bro!
And heck! By trying, you can get to know these people too for “future deployment” mah!
And you get to learn “other things” too………for sure!
    LolzZzzzz!

  3. Ivan, one more point I forgot to mention. That is, the judging criteria stipulated “… the community group or organisation …” – never mentioned a crazy individual like me, cha bau wo eng (after eating, still have time) and can still share IT with those who wish to narrow the digital divide.

  4. Bro,
    Talk to Terence Seah lor…
I think possible to co-operate or put the IT outreach project under the SilverHairsClub Enterprise umbrella…
I believe it is also one of the boarder objectives of SHC Enterprise…

  5. Hello SHCians,
Just to share my point of view …

I believe Silverhairs Enterprise Pte. Ltd is not eligible for seeking Jetstar grant.

SHC Club’s Forum, which is parked under SHC Enterprise, can be considered as one of the means to reach out to the Silver Hairs Generation and keep them occupied in mind and body with the postings and field activities conducted. Unfortunately Cyber Club can only reach out to those who know how to use IT and the Internet (as the Groups 1 and 2 mentioned in my earlier posts).

There are still “Group 3” baby boomers that are left out (in this SHC Forum) because they do not know how to get engaged (or communicate) in the Cyber World. This group of people, if for whatever reason are not so mobile, will only have the Media-Corp TV channels to rely on. Now most of these broadcasting players are talking about “Social TV”. A smart TV that is able to communicate with others who are also connected to the Cyber World. View this link below to see what others are doing for the seniors.

  6. Hi Ivan,
This is an excellent suggestion and a great idea to kickstart Hew Lee’s interest and desire to bring basic IT to seniors and SilverHairsClub.

And Hew Lee, if you are prepare to lead the IT project as you see it, and send in the funding application, you too have my support. Whether under SilverHairsClub or the SilverHairs Enterprice Pte Ltd.

I encourage you and other members to take similar steps.

  7. Hi Hew Lee (re. Comment 1)
I think you can use the cash component of the grant to pay rental for the Wi-Fi equipped room you are looking for. The rest of the money can be used to pay trainers, buy necessary equipment (eg laptops – and give them to the learners at the end of the course). The flight component of the grant is a little tricky – how to use it? Hmm… may be all the volunteer trainers fly to a needy country or two ( with laptops/pcs in tow ?) to teach IT?

    2-ct’s worth.

  8. Jasmine,
Life is not so simple as you have suggested. When dealing with money, proper accounting is required. So far, we have achieved Step 1 – getting an air-conditioned room equipped with projector and screen, monthly and FOC. We are now trying our luck, with the help of a fellow SHCian, to move to Step 2 – to get a room equipped with Wi-Fi, also FOC and on a regular basis.
    Hewlee .
