  13. Hi Frisna,

Please register me for the pre-Christmas event on Thursday 19 December. Han’s Café reminds me of the former Skillet Coffee House at the former Supreme House in the 70’s when we who were once long-haired groovy ex-students who dug pop, folk and rock music of British invasion icons like Deep Purple, Hollies, Beatles, Amen Corner, Marmalade, Tremeloes, Turtles, Bee Gees, Led Zeppelin, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Cream, Herman’s Hermits, Manfred Mann of Singapore Polytechnic Diploma Courses used to hang out during weekends off our studies with hordes of hippie blue-jean sexy girls having marathon chit chatters all through the nite till Sunday mornings.

  14. Thanks Lin for finding Kristy! Can you find some more members for me especially the guys? hee hee

Welcome Melissa, Kent, Fida, Dave. I think i have never met any of you. Really looking forward to new faces or non-active members.
Kent: maybe you can sing or perform the oldies for us on that night?

  15. Hi Frisna

Sorry we (myself and Dave Chong) have something to attend to on the evening of the gathering and so we are not able to attend.

We wish all of you have a wonderdul time.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from us to all !

    Cheers
    Fida

Anne, Richard: looking forward to seeing you too
Fida: noted. hope to meet you two on other occasion…

  17. Hi All
    remember its Hans PARK MALL!
The Mgr informed me that the “special room” will be used for staff training until about 6PM so I’d suggest you come earliest 6PM (or else you just wait at the main cafe area ok). the entrance for us will be through the main cafe too as they are “not allowed” to open the separate door for us.
food can be ordered from 6.15PM onward.
See you all in 2 days time!!!

PS: PLEASE BRING YOUR NAME TAG. (if you dont have one, we will put a sticker on any part of your body we deem fit, with your name of course…)

  18. Hi Frisna
Sorry I have to cancel my attendance for this X’mas gathering. A long time friend just passed on today. Her funeral will be Friday hence need to attend the wake tomorrow night. Will catch up with you another time. All the best.

  19. Hi Frisna,
Sorry also as I wont be able to attend this gathering as need to attend family errand. Happy gathering to all of you…

    Regards, Dolly

  20. Thanks Frisna for taking time n efforts to organis.this event. Once again, members came together to meet one another and celebrate Xmas. The “pick a member” n introduce him or her to everyone was well received. Members had good laughters too when some of them were being teased. Caroline who was sicked sang us a beautiful Mandarin number.

Highlight of the nite was gift exchange. There were so many. Even numbers written on them were duplicated. So some lucky guys got 2 instead of 1. Some gifts were accompanied by special requests written on pieces of paper. All will be perfect if the followings had not happened.

Some gifts were seen lying on the tables which were left behind by members who had left. Why does this happen? I can only assume that the receivers may have forgotten to take them. Or for a better reason one can think of.

One of the gifts, a consumable product, printed with an expiry date that showed that it was long expired. I can only assume that the date was wrongly printed. The receiver was so disappointed.

How can such things happened in SHC. I must ask Santa Claus. Have an enjoyable n merry Xmas everyone.

  21. Dear Frisna
Thank you for organising the X’mas Gathering. As always, its well organised and fun. My apologies for having to leave early because of my bad cough and runny nose etc. I had to attend as I have not seen many of my friends for some time now and also to support your effort. Well done!
Thank you YK for your kind words. Its a miracle I could still sing after all the hacking cough.
    Carly

  22. 1. Ha ha Janie, it’s fun watching you tickling the “xuai ge”, you must be enjoying it too!

    2. Carly, thank you very very much for supporting me even though you were not feeling well (same goes to Agnes Seow) and thank you for singing to us too

    3. YK: Thank you for putting up your observation & thought.
We know who the “expired” culprit is. I was thinking of asking that person to clarify (to give “benefit of doubts”) but as you said, I think better just ask Santa and let the matter rest.
as for the gift exchange confusion, here’s what the assistants said “actually only 2 gifts were extra n they were there after the event and that we gave both to DT (recepient of expired gift). aware there were 2 duplications of “6” which was rectified b4 distribution. if there r any duplication could be “9” read as 6 or vice versa. some members juz picked up the gifts themselves without going through us while we were bizzy sorting out gifts to tally numbers. as such complication occured. in short registration did not do a good job.our apologies”

I told Ann & Theresa the fault was mainly on me. If I was there earlier we would have time to a) take out the extra numbers b) take out the names who couildn’t come last minute.
You see i had prepared the bags (names & numbers) for gift exchange, introduction, lucky draw, 1 day in advance and the numbers were upto no.42.
2 members came but didn’t intend to stay long hence no gifts. yet I had already asked Ann to add 4 extra numbers (Karen’s group) into the gift exchange bag. (Thomas gave 1 extra gift hence we marked it as No.36 & 36A) )then there are 3 persons no show but didn’t inform me. so in short:
    – there are more numbers than gifts (gift exchange)
    – several of the paper with “number” was not drawn (lucky draw) hence the lucky gifts were left on table before Juliet gave them to whoever
    – some names were drawn but the person was not there (Introduction part), those who were there the name was not drawn (including mine)

I’m supposed to announce for those with “shadow” numbers to re draw but I didn’t hence the confusion.
For this event, i give myself 5 out of 10 points- not enough laughter and many “oops”

Nonetheless, I would like to thank the following sponsors (though the value of the gifts are not much but hopefully the aim of ‘everyone get something’ is achieved): ANNIE POW, INEZ LIM, MAY WOO, DORINE TAN, BIRA …

Also I would like to thank those who put “forfeit” into their gifts.
the best one is “put an ice cube for 5 min under your arm pit”. (forgot to ask Richard Wong how he feels. I think he should put that gift near his refrigerator and everytime he sees it he will put an ice cube as told…)

Thumbs up go to Lina (jockey), Yatsing (in heat. should hv asked you to do more acts), Thomas (you were soooo good as an ah kuah), steven chan + Lydia Chin (uncle & auntie), Cat Yeo (10 men signature), Nor (sorry sweetie forgot what you were supposed to do), Peggy+ Lydia (charade) Richard Ong, Mega, Kristy, Ann Lim, Theresa for the jokes.

Special thanks to Lilian + Juliet for impromptu help in wrapping gift and took care of lucky draw, Bira for the introduction section (am glad there were some perfect matches) also to BOBBY BOK for taking all the pictures (can you download some candid ones here please?). Mega for leading the xmas song and Kent Chan for singing cliff richard’s songs. (wonder why his comments was not posted in this thread. below I copy n paste some part from the email i received)

To all of those whose names I didn’t mention, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR COMING TO THE PARTY.

MERRY XMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!

Thanks Frisna too for taking time n efforts to organise.this event. Once again, members old and new came together to meet one another to celebrate Xmas. They “pick a member” n introduce himself or herself each to everyone as was well received. Members had good laughters too when some of them were being teased. Caroline who was sicked sang us a beautiful Mandarin number.

I have my fair share of nervousness too, as I tried to break the ice by belting out thinly two familiar hits of Sir Cliff Richard, British veteran entertainer, called Bachelor Boy and Evergreen Tree. Mind you, I am definitely not as prophetic as the Peter Pan Of Pop Music, who has remained as unmarried bachelor till this day, long after being conferred knighthood in October 1995 in England. As for me, I still embrace and encompass the local motion that a wholesome family is still the basic builder and cornerstone of maximizing living and life to the full.

  24. Dear Frisna
It was my pleasure to sing for all of you. Glad I did not lose my voice completely. Know something, I was hoping my forfeit was to sing a song. Hey! this is a good start. My wish came true :)
    Carly

  25. Hi Frisna
As usual, I don’t log in to read the SHC post regularly. It has been so many days since I attended your exciting Christmas gathering. I hope it is not too late for me to tell you how much I have enjoyed your event and I really appreciate your organising it. Also, I would like to thank you 2 assistants and those who had in one way or another contributed to the running of the show.

It gave me an opportunity to meet a few new friends and catch up with some old ones. I was glad to meet some for the second time at the gathering.

I must say that our SHC’ians were very sporting and ‘kwai kwai’. They did whatever ‘forfeit’ they were asked to do. When Carly sang, we sang along with her. When Kent sang, some also sang along with him. The evening was filled with fun and laughter with your witty witty forfeits and ‘entertainment’. I like the part when you asked us the alphabet of Christmas.

For the gift exchange, I received a lovely notebook in a lilac leathery cover. I will use it as my SHC log book. I will log in the one dozen events which I have participated in since November 2011. Unfortunately, I was not able to thank the person personally. There was no name on the card. However, I appreciate the blessings written on the card. Thank you, my friend!

For rating, I would give you 9/10 for delivering a great show! You have put in so miuch time, effort, resources and money into piecing the programme together. In any event, we have to be prepared to make last minute adjustments accordingly. So, it is perfectly normal. You have to change your own rating from 5/10 to 9/10! In my line of work, sometimes the last minute variable adjustments I have to make can be very challenging.

Lastly, I would like to thank you for graciously allowing me to park and distribute the door gifts (including tickets) for my EC D & D event at your event venue.
    With Heartfelt Appreciation, maywoo

    1. Hi Frisna,

Although I wasn’t present as the Xmas gathering, I read from May as well as other participants that were were a great entertainer that night. May I ask if you can sing, and doesn’t matter if you had not been a pro, but if you can sing, and with your entertainer skills, I like to discuss with you a Siow2 channel. I am thinking of organising an event for SHCians and other senior members in Singapore.

      Terence Seh

  26. Hi Frisna

So sorry for my very late thank you. It was indeed my pleasure to attend and support you. I know it takes much effort to organise an event. The little oversight is nothing compared to the fun, laughter and bonding the members had.

    Compliments of the Seasons

    Cheers
    Agnes
