IT Workshops in Jan 2008 (1)

We had successfully completed 4 workshops at Henderson CC in Jan 08. A big thank you to all those who had attended. Although there were some hitches, nevertheless the workshops were great opportunities for members to get together to refresh their IT skills n to those who were new pick up new IT skills.

I hope the experiences picked up from these workshops will harness your IT skills. If they are insufficient, pls do come back for more. On the choice of centre n location selection, we are in negotiation with an external organisation in a central location fully equipped with equipment n w/o restriction in loading software that we need to use on the PCs. We await to hear the good news.

What we had done –

1) Buying n selling stuff online, 2) Internet banking, 3) Online chat & 4) Emailing Enhanced

Out of the 4 workshops, #2 was the most successful with 95% out of 100% attempted and subscribed to Internet Banking. They were also 1st timers.

I also wish to extend my thanks to members who had volunteered their time to assist at the workshops. They were Chan Kwong Wah, Ronald Lee, Edward Lim, Christina Chan CL & Jade Phua.

We may re-run the 4 workshops n some others at later dates. Other workshops like photo editing, downloading images n videos, selling on Ebay, uploading photos to n managing online photo albums, burning images n videos onto media, creating your own webpage n latest craze, blogging.

We welcome all suggestions. In the event we do take time to run those courses it’s likely that we cant find volunteer trainers. Pls excuse us. If you are able n available to run any course pls come n join us.

Until you hear from us again, a big thank you to all you once again.

  1. Hi Yew Kwong and gang

Thanks for taking time off four precious Saturdays to share with us your knowledge. I have received my ibanking token, but have yet to take it out of the box. Hence, I sent Fedex along with the $20 in the ang pow left over from fan making last Saturday to Roland for the CNY tim sum lunch.

What I looked forward to more was the lunch after the class. The stall owner who prepared the table for us, took the pictures for us, etc will miss us this Saturday.

  2. Hi Yew Kwong

I just activated my DBS ibanking account and transferred some money to Lin Tan for a trip we made last year. Hee, must clear all debts before Chinese New Year.

Thanks for initiating me into this cyber world of banking.

No firm schedule yet but much depends on availablity of venue plus response fr members. Likely time slots will be Sat morn or nites on wkdys. Repetition of 4 workshops plus another, Blogging.

  5. To all who received this request to be my hi5 friend, please ignore the email as I don’t use hi5.

How this came about was that I got an email from an SHC member to be his friend on hi5. I didn’t know how this worked but after that, I got a whole lot of email responses from people to say that they have accepted MY request for them to be my friend.

I think the invitation went out to EVERY email address in my system. Gosh!

  6. Hi Yew Kwong

Yes, as part of the various steps on the hi5 screens after accepting that fateful email from that SHC member, I probably registered last Friday as a member.

But, I won’t be accessing hi5. So, please ignore the email requests from me on this hi5 Friend thingy. Scary…

Thank goodness there are 368 members known as “Joy”.

  7. I too received such invites but I simply hit the “delete” button even if it’s from people I know. I didn’t have any more problems after that.

  8. Hi Joy

Lily’s countermeasure is a rite one. Even if e invite is fr a known source be it ur fren or buddy U can choose 2 ignore by simply clicking on e “X” button or “No” whichever option is avail.

One gd advice is scan ur system regularly n thoroughly 4 virus, adware or spyware. Make sure U hv defensive programs installed 2 protect ur system fr potential harm, intrusion or hacking. Imptly make sure ur firewall is enabled.
