  3. Hi Terence,
You may need to adjust the SHC clock as it is two minutes slow.
11.59 on SHC clock is actually 12.01am on my Starhub HDMI clock and it matches to the dot our 9.30pm TV News. For your information. Thanks.
    Regards, winnie

  4. “Boom Boom” is indeed fun and exciting. The first Q is a current affairs and general knowledge question. The second Q has an answer which can easily be found in SilverHairsClub.com. I hope this will tickle our senior brain.

Sorry that answers via Whatsapp or email or other media are not acceptable. Must be seen by everybody.

Watch out for the correct answers, towards the end of Aug 2014. Another Boom Boom competition will be published end of August. We have enough prizes to last us till end Dec 2014. Have fun.

  7. Here ‘s the results of August “Boom Boom” contest.

    1. Singapore’s newest attraction is a 15 min River Safari Cruise. When is the launch opening date? The answer is 1 Aug 2014, which was announced in the papers.

    2. The first person to have registered in the Club and had introduced hereself is Suzanna Loh. http://silverhairsclub.com/?p=80. A number of Singaporeans joined SHC when we launched our recruitment campaign.

The first member to participate and winner is Sue Chan. Please email your address to admin@SilverHairsClub.com; or if you have time, you can also collect on Sat 6 Sept at CSC.

    Congratulations.

Let’s look forward to the Sept “Boom Boom”. Boom will be announced anytime, anydate in Sept. The first person to submit the entry with the correct answer will win a $100 NTUC Fairprice voucher.

Clue: The first question has to do with our latest song. The second question has to do with the members in the Club.

    Look out soon.

    Terence Seah

  8. Yes! Thank you Terence, glad that I’ve answered the 2 questions correctly. I will email you my forwarding address as I’ll be out of town on 6th Sep.

    Cheerio!

  9. We learn along the way. In our first Boom Boom competition, the 2nd question asked to name one of the member’s interest or hobby. The question did not ask for the name of the member.

We have announced Sue Chan as the member with the correct answers. However, after looking at the competition again, we realised that Winnie Tan has given organising events as an answer. The organiser accepts this as correct. Congratulations Winnie. Please email admin@SilverHairsClub.com with your address. Another $100 voucher will be sent to you.

So, although we have in mind one winner, we will have two winners then for the 1st Boom Boom.

    Copngrats Winnier and Susan.

  10. Dear Admin
I should get the prize too. If you look at Suzanna Loh’s profile – she was interested in promoting friendship among silverhair members in three cities. And I posted my answer at exactly 12.05am. I have given the right answer.

  11. Hi Jassmine,

I note your point. We relook at the answers, and reviewed our decision. We shall keep to the same decision on the results.

But, you have raised an interesting issue on the time. We take note of that.

    Terence Seah

  12. Hi Terence
I have given the right answer haven’t I? I posted the answer at 12.01 am – the earliest possible time to post. Technically there are two winning entries posted at 12,01am. I didn’t comment earlier because I thought there was only one prize and since my entry was behind Sue Chan’s I had nothing to say. But since you are giving another prize to an entry that was NOT the earliest, I have to register my protest. :(

  13. P.S.
The rule of the contest says ‘the first person to provide the correct answers wins.” This means the second and subsequent persons who provide the correct answer do not count anymore.

  14. Hi Terence
There are 2 things I wish to point out.
    1. The time on our computers, handphones were 12.00mn when few of us submitted our answers but on the website, it shows as 11.59pm. There were some comments about the time difference but you did not acknowledge or comment on them. I feel this should be looked into if you want to hold a contest fairly.
    2. If the above is acknowledged, then Winnie is the first to submit the correct answer. If the above is not, then it is Sue Chan,
    Anyway, congratulations to the winners.

  15. hahaha. I hardly write on SHC forum but pertaining to this particular topic, it triggers me to add in my comment.

Since the Admin/Terence had already declared and announced the Winner/Winners officially, lets respect his decision as Final and look out for his next contest in Sept 2014.

  16. Dear Martin
There is no issue about respecting the judges’ decision. The issue is a more serious one – the credibility of the contest. Is the judging of winners fair to the contestants who made the effort to participate? If there are two correct entries at 12.01 a.m. and the judges decided to award two prizes, surely the co-winner should get a prize?

  17. Hi Jassmine,

We shall review your response, and get back to you soon.

This competition was intended to be a fun activity where members can talk about it, participate and get to know one another. There is no issue with regards to credibility as you have insinuated. I therefore do not agree with this comment.

When we made the decision, we considered the timing to be accurate. We can keep debating over the accuracy of the time, although, in hindsight, I think it was a bad judgement on our part to use 0001 hrs as the time to start the competiton.

All in all, we are pleased with the feedback and response from this competition. It tells a lot and gives us a better understand of Club activities. This is the first time, we are organising such a competition, and I think we will continue with it.

I get back to you in a few days.

  18. Hi Terence
I didn’t insinuate. I was upfront. Please consider the following in your review of my protest:
Since a prize was awarded to an invalid correct entry – invalid because it was posted at the wrong time (breaching a rule of the contest), while a legitimate, correct entry was denied a prize – it is like not giving marks to a student who gave a correct answer because the marker did not find his answer in the marking scheme. How will this student feel is how I feel now – aggrieved.

A win-win solution to resolve this unforeseen, unpleasant situation is to award a prize to the deserving co-winner. And then tighten the loopholes for subsequently contests.

To conclude – I took part in the contest for fun but I was an earnest contestant and felt the challenge while searching for the perfect answers. I never foresaw this unpleasant turn of event :(

  19. In any challenge, competition or contest that offers a prize, there is ONLY one thing in the minds of people who choose to participate — and that is, TO WIN. The fun element, if any, is secondary. The tangible value of the prize may or may not be substantial, but more satisfying is being officially recognised as better, quicker or wiser than your opponent(s). Of course we have this thing called “friendly match”, otherwise known as “kelong”, which makes a mockery of the real spirit of competing.

Jassmine has a point – the very rule set by the organiser ought to be adhered to, particularly if the organiser also decides the winner and gives the prize.

There seems to be a commotion over the time the answers were posted. This shouldn’t be an issue. The official time shall be the correct time. It would be preposterous if someone were to show his watch to the airline manager when he missed his flight.

  20. I appreciate the responses to the results of the Aug Boom Boom competition.

Having spoken with a number of members and from the responses, it does appear that we are unable to verify the accuracy of the timing of our system’s clock, starhub clock and some other international clock. Therefore, a correct answer at 1159 hrs is correct. Based on SHC server clock which is run on the central backbone of Singapore’s internet network and hosted at a reputable server in Singapore, our timing may be one minute different from other clocks. Maybe the experts will want to have a say, although I won’t dwell into this further.

As such, we accept Sue Chan as the winner, based on the timing on our website.

As an award has been offered to the 1159hr winner, there is validity in Jassmine’s point that there should also be a co-winner. We will get back after we look into the kitty.

The organisers have attempted to make the competition simple, although we did not expect a one minute controversy to become an issue.

And, for members who have given their views, thank you.

  21. Hi Jassmine,

Thank you for your participation in Boom Boom August 2014.

The organisers reviewed the situation. While we had no intention to have a complex set of rigidities for our Boom Boom competition, we felt that your response and answers are valid. As the servers had recorded your time as 0001 hr, we shall go along the records.

For future events, we shall still try to keep our rules simple, and have a fun Club competition from time to time.

Congratulations, you have won the Boom Boom competition. Please do email your home address to admin@SilverhairsClub.com. The vouchers will be sent to you by registered post.
