  1. Hi Ron-Oz,

Very useful piece of info to enlarge print. It really works Dolly, now the print is so large, no need for that lasik surgery anymore!

  2. Hi Steven,

So you still not satisfied with the pictures. Not interested in that omelette? You still want that stalk of flower, ah? But the photo of the ladies,ok with you.

  3. Thanks Terence for the great effort in upgrading the System. Hope with this upgrading, there should be a lot more interaction between SHCians and new members. :)

  4. This is the first time I logged into the forum after the upgrade. First reaction was… wow, so refreshing! Second reaction, such huge fonts!!! I don’t need my reading glasses to read the forum comments any more :-)). Then realised how come no man/men in the pic!! May mislead new comers that SHC is a golden girls club (tho Rene is definitely not a golden girl yet :-))).

  5. Was reading the Latest Comments….and saw Dolly’s comment on RonOZ being MIA then giving 2 good suggestions…I was curious to read RonOz’s comments, but there is no thread link to go into….1 down for the post upgrade? :0-)))

  6. Terence, is there a possibility that we can reply directly from the latest comments itself rather than browsing thru’ the post itself as some of the posts might be at vry btm liao..

  7. Hi Dolly,

Yes, I guess you can. Look at this example. At the bottom, you should see the From. Click on it.

  8. Hi Terence,

My fren, joyce lee just join in SHC, She has given her profile but why nothing appears and its in the draft, we can’t view. Can show her how to post her profile.

    TQ

  9. Dear Terence & Dolly

Appreciate your effort in creating the new set-up, bright n bold letterings, good for Silverhairs, especially for those with long sighted, who, now do not require reading glasses.

May I point out one aspect of the post, whether it can be rectified:

When I clip under “travel” –

The Post, “Heres a dream from 18-25 Nov, 2008 (camping North Thailand) dated 06.01.2008, appears.

Immediately after the above post, you will find the next post dated i5.12.2006 “Xmas & N.Y.Greetings”, follow by post dated 29.10.2006 “Joyc profile”n datedl4.l0.2006,”How to get other Silverhairs to know more about you”, why is there a BIG jump datewise? These following three posts does not relates to “travels”.

  10. Dear Terence

With the new system ungrade and having the bright n beautiful photo, projecting SUSAN, AH NEE N RENE, it strikes me to suggest that SHC can organise a “MISS SHC” contest in the near and not far future, especially we have females out-numbered males, SHCians.

  13. Hi Terence,

    Can you help?

    Thanks

Hope this can be of some help to you.. Cheers… Happy trying… Dolly

  15. Hi Terence,
Ignore my comment # 15. Now managed to make a post, Thanks to Dolly Lim.
Hi Dolly Lim, Thanks for your pointer. The post is now written and awaiting approval.
Hi Ron Oz, Thanks for your suggestion on enlarging the font. Works for me.

  16. Dolly: Aiyah, no need to “kam sia” lah, we all here to help each other mah. So, like Lina said, no need for lasik surgery liao lor!

Charles Chua: I’m glad my tip for adjusting the text size works for you. Don’t know why it didn’t work for Mary Chan.

Mary: Are you holding down the Ctrl key when you pressed the + key? If it still doesn’t work, let me know and I’ll explain the “long way” to adjust the text size.

June Lim: I don’t why my comment about adjusting text size dropped out from this “system upgrade” post.

Anyway, for you and others who missed it, here is the tip again: If you hold down the Control (Ctrl) key and press the plus (+) key, the text size should increase. If the text size is still not big enough, repeat the process — hold down the Ctrl key and press the + key again. If after, say, three times and the text is still not big enough for you, contact Dolly to find out where to go for lasik surgery (haha).

To make the text smaller, hold down the Ctrl key and press the minus or hyphen (-) key.

It should work for any website that you are reading.

  17. Hi Terence

Well done!! Have not been reading SHC website for 2 days liao. Hiyo !! just on my laptop and what a surprise.
Wah yo!! everything so fresh and new. Thought I came to the wrong login. Thanks for the hard work. Still trying the other new setup see how it works.
    Good work Terence and gang.
    Gwen

  18. ….

    Hi .Administrator,

** Font size for Posts, except comments, is done.
** Latest Posts and Comments are available on sidebar.
** Although the feature is available, pictures can be uploaded via admin. Video, audio would not be made available.** User profile still being worked upon.
From System upgrade on Tue 22/05/08

Thanks Adminstrator for the above feedback.
And I believe it is now more user friendly than before.

  19. Hi all,

I was very IMPRESSED with our NEW member’s Tian Soo’s Ecofarm Web Home Page at http://www.greencircle.com.sg esp. the link to picture gallery and its INTERESTING captions below the selected photos.

May I suggest that SHC album placed captions on selected photos esp. for those members like me who could NOT attend the Kelong event. This would give the reader an insight of what’s happening during the activities eg. Kelong Night:- a picture of Ron Lai and Terence ADMIRING the small fish.

To any reader ,they might think ” What is the big deal behind this small fish” ?

However, for those who are too busy at work and NOT able to catch up with 100 comments daily , they may not know that Terence has organised a competition for the smallest fish being caught by Kelong participants and a prize will be awarded to them in one of the 266 comments.

May be this caption for the photo could be , our prize catch for the smallest fish competition.

At ecofarm’s webpg, when you click you see 2 lovely birds fluttering around. My idea is instead of birds we can have 2 MINI size Guardian Angels,1 male and 1 female fluttering around if it can still be accommodated in our SHC homepage.

    Any comments from others ?

    My 5 cs. worth

  20. Hi Steven:

Re you para 2 of #22, I actually uploaded the photos I took of the kelong trip to http://picasaweb.google.com/ronald.origami (‘SHC Kelong Trip’ folder)and included captions.

The photos were originally intended for my non-SHC fishing and/or photography buddies. I have since added folders for the photos taken by Boon Liang and Andrew Koh, but have not gotten round to adding captions for the photos in these folders.

    Cheers,

    Ron Koh

  21. Hi Ron Koh at #23,

Thanks for your interesting photos cum captions of the Kelong trip. I enjoy browsing them again.

….A strange object at the top right hand corner caught my eye just as I was taking this shot. I am sure it was not an aeroplane. It was out of sight before I could take another shot. An enlarged view of the object is shown on the left bottom corner.

    An alien spaceship ?
No,it just the reflection of sunlight on a small patch of cloud surrounded by a huge mass of dark clouds that gives it a “birdie” appearance.

Ha! Ha! Ron Koh. You can’t fool me.

BTW when are you teaching us SHcians to make paper origamis of animals and flowers. I am still waiting to join this EXCITING course. Pls. update and inform me pls. Thanks

  22. Hi, Steven (#24):

    I kid you not.

I saw it briefly with my naked eyes as it moved rapidly across the sky. By the time I looked through the camera viewfinder to zoom in on it, it was gone. I thought my eyes were playing tricks and didn’t mention it to anyone as I don’t place much belief in UFOs.

    On Origami classes:

I’m still in need of a venue with the needed facilities (Please see thread: ‘Origami, anyone?). Let me know if you have any ideas. And oy yes, you have been included.

    Cheers,

    Ron

  23. Hi Admin,

Unlike before, we have impt links of the different categories of SHC activities on the right hand side column.
Egs are charity, D n D night, Bowling, Badminton, SHC gathering, investments, etc…

Now it had totally isappeared. I think it is good to retain this important feature so that any potential SHC members knows what kinds of activities to expect from SHC and also it is easier for us to click the relevant categories.

    Any comments pls?

  24. Hello Terence,

Personally, I find the font size too “huge” for my comfort. Colleagues cld read my screen miles away. So, no more sneaking in to browse website during office hours.

  25. Hi Ann,

Very interesting. I too find it too big.

Anybody find the fonts too big. Or Anybody find the fonts just right?

And for all others, I think we have solved the Spam problem. If you find any spam sneaking into our forum, please scream.

    Terence Seah

  26. Hi Dolly…re #16…to put up a Post….1)click on the latest posts, 2)click on “Write”….then click on SAVE right? I hve just put up a post, hope I hve done the right way…:-))

  27. Was surpised to see the change. On closer look, noticed that the change was cosmetic. Feature wise, it seems to be a step backwards :-

    1) Categories in alphabetical order would be useful to let people know the groups, activities and information available.

    2) Ability to go to the relevant post from a comment would make navigation easier.

    My two Ringgit…

  28. Hi JoyC @31,

Wow, you are very alert. I shall ask the web guys to list the categories in alphabetical order. We can also go directly to the relevant post from the comments list; again this will be look at.

You can also go to Last Posts; as the categories are in alphabetical order.

  29. Hi SHCians,

Before I go out for the vegetarian lunch this after, I feel I should say something about this system upgrade. I think the changes were easier done, than I originally thought. Your feedback has definitely help to speed up our wish list.

But importantly, take this SHC website as a great way to communicate with one another. We have one objective; and that is to provide a platform to meet new and more friends. In the last 50 years, I have taken no more than a dozen panadols. So, I dont need more. Say your point; but please do be sensitive. Personally, and exactly an issue in my mind, I feel we should avoid criticising any person for what he/she is. Why? Because we are all individuals, and have our own thoughts and principles. Yes, we can debate on the ideas, suggestions and activities; and let’s do it.

As part of this system upgrade, how about each of us saying hello to every new member that joins this forum?

  30. Hi Terence,

The photo of the plate of the omelette has disappeared and is NOW being replaced by the SHC “Wiry Hair” logo.

    V. good. It blends very well with the other photo of SHC trio namely Ah Nee,Rene and Suzhang :- our newly found SHC’s Charlie Angel’s team.

I felt this time round with this system upgrade, the access speed had been much faster than before.

    Any comment/comments from others?

  31. Hi!Grace & others SHCians,
Tks for yr well-wishes & blessings.Nice meeting up people like you & others @ the restaurant. It’s a pity I didn’t get yr contact.
Will update U abt the stay @Perth wif Mary asap when I get back.
I went to have breakfast wif Terence, Dan,Mary,Tim &Charles @CBC and then after play badminton wif Ronald, Maggie & Molly & Albert @ Kallang CC. What an exciting holi to start! Dun envy me back to work 2mor tho.
    Sayonara.

  32. Hi Admin,

A 2c proposal. Can we have the calender event be linked directly to the event posting. This way user will not have to search for the posting. Its more productive to look at the nearest and coming events.

    Dennis

  33. Shalom all! Good to be back.

Two weeks of news to catch up and, wow! a new makeover.

The new format is refreshing. Ideally, comments be linked to the respective posts. Rather tedious having to plot your way to source of origin.

Yes, the fonts are too big and… bold. A bit glaring.

Not the end of the world. There’s room for improvement.

    My 2 Shekels worth… ;-)

  34. Hi Admin,

It is so REFRESHING to see the banner that has a beautiful coloured picture of smiling Boon Liang with many coconut trees in Pengarang in the background.

I guess this is one way Terence is fighting v. hard to get more MEN to join SHC. This gives any reader that SHC does have men after all which are being prized as the
    “ENDANGERED SPECIES” Ha! Ha!

My 5cts. thought, Terence any coffee for my correct answer.

  35. Hi Gingko/Veronique,

    Welcome back .
Have both of you visited the “wailing Wall” ?

….Yes, the fonts are too big and… bold.???
NOT really. Most of us Silverhairs need reading glasses to read the forum. The bold bigger fonts comes in handy. I do NOT have to squint my eyes to look at the post anymore. Bravo! IT guys for the excellent extreme make over.

  36. Hi Steven @38,

Our SilverHairsClub will always carry pictures of SHCians, male or female, on the banner head from time to time. I guess our theme can be vibrance, life and health.

For those who are new, come join the activities, organised by fellow members. And, you may be spotted to be featured on our club’s banner.

    Terence Seah

  37. Hi Terence at # 40, others,

Wonderful suggestion to promote vibrance, ife and health.
    Excellent! Keep it up!

This is a far cry from the old dull and lifeless “merlion” banner and the monotone fonts

  38. Hi everybody,

Two things are pending; and I hope to find solutions asap. One is the small font sizes in the comments. The other is the ability to reply threads, from the latest comments list.

I dont promise a fast solution though.
