Craft Classes

Update 1:

Date : June 27 2008
Time : 7pm – 8pm
Venue: Han’s Cafe at Upper Pickering Street
Material Cost: $10/pax for Crystal Angel

I am with SHC for a few month and had joined them in the cycling and walk events .

SHC members have been posting alot of interesting events like Travelling, Durian Fest , Dancing and even Soccer.   I would like to take this opportunity to introduce "Craft Classes" into the SHC event.

I make crystal accessories , bags from old pairs of Jeans , brighten up my white shoes with fabric paint….  I met some members at the Bukit Batok walk who find my craft very interesting.

These are some of the craft we can start with:

  1. Swarovski Crystal Angel ( very ideal gift for Christmas)
  2. Swarovski Crystal Butterfly
  3. Fabric painting on white shoe
  4. Mini bag from old pair of Jeans

My creations can be viewed here –

Hope members can give me support , comments and any suggestion.

  1. Hi Karen,

It is very nice of you to initiate craft classes, especially when you have joined us not too many moons ago. Think aloud, how do you see the classes being conducted, and a cost per pax.

And, dont look at our calendar, or else you may not be able to organise anything. Look at your own diary, and the date and time, you are free. Just one session first.

You will have plenty of support. Well done.

  2. Ann

Thanks for your support – will see other members response before I put up another post on the Date & Place for the workshop.

  3. Hi, wold like to share my thots…..interested members cld gather and learn to make simmi ski costume jewellery, jeans bags and painted canvas shoes etc and then set up a table at SHC flea market to sell the items. Earnings to pay for the table rent, the materials etc. Profit if any to set aside for quarterly visits to old folks homes or yr end visits to children homes etc ..eg with the money, we could cook up some healthy food for the old folks, or buy gifts for the kids etc. (Still waiting for someone to organise some form of volunteer work)…..:-)))

I do the craft work at very low cost to friends and church’s members. These people i give lesson usually are people who need “extra” income, I leave them to do their own sale. I like your suggestion but the problem is not all members meet at the same time. I was at the last flea market, we sold only one bag when I set the cost as low as $6/bag.

I send 200pcs of such angle to my friend in Syndey. She will take $3 out of the sale for every angel sold. This money is donated to the mental hospital there.

Sooo – how can we sell this craft to raise fun – maybe u can suggest – I will help.

The class I am holding now is for those who are interested in craft, Maybe u can be there and we can discuss. By the way , any charity item – cost must be low – u know crystal is not cheap unless we can replace crystal with other material.

  5. June

No wonder I find your name so familiar. U posted the Saturday Night Fever,

Well, we can get this opportunity to make some item for charity during such big group gathering.

  6. Hi Karen

It is nice to know that you like to introduce your “Craft Classes” to SHC members. I am interested to join. Previously I have made quite a lot of swarovski crystals necklace, bracelet, earrings, etc as a hobby and also sold to friends. Now, all my material are kept aside. Look forward to meet you to share our hobby.

  11. Hi Karen,

I am interested in making Mini bag from old pair of Jeans. Do I need to use sewing machine for this craft. My sewing machine is in the storeroom many donkey years, wonder if it still working. Let me know when you start the class, thank you.

    Ah Nee

  12. Hi ! Karen,

Kindly include my name in your craft class if the class is in the evening as work place quite far from town.

    Thank you.

    Judy

  13. Ah Nee

We can do a few type of bag from a pair of Jeans. If u want to make the mini bag (the bottom part of both leg) then u don need the sewing machine but if u are using the upper portion of the Jeans which make quite a big bag, then u will need the sewing machine.

I will have my son to take some photo of the item I want to teach so that the members u/stand what I am doing.

I will teach an item a day , the 1st class will be the angel and then I will discuss with them how they want to meet for the next class.

Maybe if anyone interested in the bag, I will hold the class (in small group) in my house. Will discuss when we meet.

Usually, I will cut my full length Jeans to 3/4 length, then I used the balance two small piece of cloth to convert into the mini bag, then i will add a colourful cotton fabric to the 3/4 length pant.

Hope not too confusing to u/stand (haha)

    Karen

  14. Karen,

Wow! that’s interesting, I will sew some beads & sequin onto the bags to make it more unusual. Looking forward to learn from you. :)

    Ah Nee

  15. Ah Nee

I don sew beads on the Jeans. If u can receive my photo attachment , u will be able to see what I put on the Jeans. I have ask Dolly if she can do the attachment on the posting.

    karen

  16. Hi Ah Nee,

I can’t imagine you carting your sewing machine to Han’s Cafe, haha. Karen, do you make earrings? Thank you for your assistance when I fell during the recent cycling.

  17. Lina

I got a portable sewing machine and the inter-locking machine too. If they want to make the bigger bag, then I have to hold the classes in my house in small group cos i have a small house.

I enclosed some photo for your viewing. Hope yr leg is ok by now.

See u in the next cycling again.

    Karen

  18. Lina

So , u want come down for the “Crystal Angel” or not?

    Karen

  25. Happy that I got some response on the “Craft”. I approached Terence and discussed with him on this. I told him I will keep the cost as low as I can.

  28. Hi Karen

I wld like 2 join ur session 2. Perhaps I can help wif the stitching n sewing. I last did them during my school n army dys.

  29. Thanks Karen, you are a good cook as well, I am fortunate to be invited to taste your favourite dessert – “Lian Zhi Suan”. I still have the old fashion SINGER machine in the storeroom, going to be antique already. This machine was given by my mother as a wedding gift. he…he…he…she know I am no good at sewing, still want to give me the sewing machine??? Later I bought a portable one, just to mend clothes, but find it very troublesome, finally gave it to my sister.

Yew Kwong, You can sew & stitch huh, really or not? we shall learn from Karen. :)

    Ah Nee

  30. Ah Nee

I don know if Yew Kwong is joking or not. I am not a good cook but few dishes I cook well. I put a post “Chicken Bryani The Easy Way” nobody response (haha)

STeven said “easy Bryani” and yet more 20ingredient.

  31. Hi Karen,

Thanks. Actually I’m more comfortable with Tues/Wed evening. Hvr, will go with the majority on Fri, 27 Jun 08. Cost on mat’l is ok.

Regretted not buying the interlocking machine years back when it was much cheaper. Can you imagine the cost of neatening a pc has increased multiple folds!

I wld love to see the pics of your creative bags. Will send you my personal email address later. Need to rush off now to meet my son.

  32. Ann

Me too , did not buy the interlocking machine,My next door neighbour has got one and she always give me free service until I so Pei Sieh.

A friend of mine who is a tailor in Lucky plaza offer me one portable one – I was too happy to take…. till now I always consider this the best gift I ever receive.

    Now it cost about $600plus.

  33. Dear Karen,

We’ve met at the Cha Bo Nite, remember me!!!

Very keen to learn these skills from you. Will see you on 27 June at Hans Cafe at 7pm.

Thanking you in advance for sharing.

  34. Yew kwong

Very Interesting. Very eager to meet u this Sat.

    Ah Nee

U better don laugh too much or Yew kwong will sew u up (haha)

    Karen

  35. Karen

You are in trouble. You say you are very eager to meet YK this Sat. You may find him irresistable because he was my handsome dance partner for the D&D social dance performance hahahaha!

Also, I did not say anything about wanting to join your craft class because I can cook and bake but my needlework and handicraft are hopeless. Even my dressmaking teacher told me at my first lesson, to go home and go find a tailor to sew my clothes.

My brayni recipe is quite complicated so I will try yours out. Thanks for the recipe. Will do so probably next week.

    Warmest Regards

    Caroline Gee

  36. Caroline

Did I mentioned anything about u joining the class….

SOrry – u confused me, This is the first time I post for the “Craft” and I am getting abit of dizzy with all the comments (haha).

Dont worry la, I wont “steal” your dancing partner . I dont know how to dance.

We did not get to meet YK at the last cycling, so this Sat I am helping at IT – it nice to meet those we talk on comments or email.

    Karen

  37. Hi Karen

No you did not mention about me attending your craft class and I have no intention to attend either.

Oh btw, YK and I were only dance partners for the D&D performance. No hanky panky business. I go by the books.

We may be travelling on different wavelengths so I have no further comments.

  38. Hi Karen,

Have always like handicrafts with crystals, beads, sequins & stuff. I have a beautiful crystal angel gift from my young niece, but would like to come by on 27Jun08 evening as an observer and at the same time network. Hope it’s okay with you??

Would it be possible for you to send me some of your craft pix? My e-mail address is: gingko.nut@hotmail.com. Thank you!

  39. Gingko

U can come down , is ok. Why don just join in the fun and have one set of crystal to play with.

ANyway , the picture attachment is on the post already.

Yew Kwong did it for me.

    karen

  40. Karen,

I did try the link to your pix attachment, but it prompted me to download “Adobe Flash Player 9″ which I am reluctant. I am using Vista and don’t want to complicate my existing system. It doesn’t matter, I’ll see you on 27Jun08. Cheers!

  41. Gingko

I just send to your private email. Yew kwong already reduce the file , so believe u can open up the pix.

Eileen also got problem with the attachment .

    Check your mail now la

    karen
