June Monthly gathering – Wed, 4 Jun 2008

Hi all SHCians attending the monthly gathering,

Most of us are new to one another.  Dont be shy.  Introduce yourself to one another.  Make sure your name tag is clearly visible to your friends around.  Don’t sit down throughout the whole evening.  If you really do not know where to start, ask the registration desk, or Mary Chan.  For the seasoned members, you know what to do.

Last two days, I was reminded that there was no May monthly gathering.  Excuse was, May was very crowded, so the monthly gathering was not called.  We must try not to skip the monthly gatherings.

Well, let’s have another one.  Details as follows:

  • Venue:  To be announced soon.  Confirmed at Hans Cafe, Great Eastern Bldg, China Square, Pickering Street.
  • Date:  Wed 4 June 2008
  • Time:  1500 – 1800 hrs (retired SHCians); 1800 – 2100 hrs (still working SHCians).
  • F&B:  One complementary drink, for the 1st 50 registered participants.  Food, please purchase at counter.
  • Topic:  Getting to meet new friends.  Bring your name tag.
  • Event Organiser:  Terence Seah
  • Registration:  When you arrive, please ask for Grace Wong and Janet Heng, and tick your name against the name list.  If you had asked for a name tag, please check with Grace.  If no name tag, please write your name, as big as possible, on a sticky label, and put it on  your dress/shirt.  Have fun.
  • As this is a SHC monthly event, no direct selling of goods and services here please.  No discussions on politics, sex, race, or religion.

  1. Hi Terence,

We could hold the June gathering in HongKong Cafe located outside Heartland Mall near Kovan MRT (NEL). They serve resonable price food and drinks.

    Warmest regards,
    Melissa

  4. Dear Terence

Agree with SusanC, holding at Han’s Cafe seems 2b most suitable, as it is around town, near MRT and convenient for those working SHCians, pl include Alice n myself.

  5. Hi everbody,

For those who have little groups of your own, do arrange to meet on the same day as the Monthly gathering on Wed, 4 Jun 2008. Use this as the opportunity to meet and discuss. Invite others to join you and contact you during the gathering. Not necessary for everybody attending this gathering.

There is no topic for this gathering. Just and simply “get to meet new friends”.

    Terence Seah

  6. Hi Grace Wong

Yes, thank you very much for making such lovely name tags. So nice of you to do for us. Unexpected. Really appreciate your kindness.

  13. Hi, Terence:

Barring unforeseen circumstances, I should be there.

Could have a short origami session if there is sufficient interest.

By the way, what happened to your thread, “Have your photo, link to your Post or Comment”?

    Ron Koh

  14. Terence,
When I saw, “Wednesday”, my first reaction was dismay as I usually have to teach Wednesdays. Then I took a good look at the date and realised that it was during my term break. So, good. I will be there, at 3pm. I still think Han’s is a good place for the meeting.

Goody RonK, origami? YES! but this time round, please alert me when you are about to begin hor? I don’t want to miss it like the previous time. My girls were so tickled by the pair of lips you made, they want me to learn it, so I hope you will teach that.

Looking forward to the meeting. :-)

  15. I’ll be there 6ish. I’m for Han’s as it’s big enough for us to have our own little corner (also for the selfish reason that it’s within walking distance from my office!).

  16. Hi! all SHCians,
Greetings fr Bishan! It’s a pity I can’t join u guys @ the monthly meetings even it’s June holis.
What a shame not to even smell yr durians after yr trails!
In addition, I would like to go Vietnam wif u guys if there’s an opportunity strike next time, don’t 4get to count me in. Hope there’s one in Dec holis.
Hope the oil palm trip is sucessful on 14thJune.I’m looking 4ward to it. Will not be in town fr 31/5 – 8/6.

Meow…. says “Black Cat” since there’r so many cats as long as can catch rats.

  17. Hi Terence

Please register me for the monthly gathering. Have only attended once before. This will be my second. Depending on work and traffic, hope to make it by 7pm. Thanks.

    Terence Seah

  21. Weiwei, Lily, Jane, YK,
If I am back from wrk trip b4 31/5, we will go Kembangan 1st n den cheong 2 ONS ok??? Will keep u all posted…

  22. Hi Terence,
Will be there for the 3pm. session.

    Hi Stephen,
Are you going to Yoga that evening????
Have you worked out how you are getting there.
    You can Email me.
Reason I am asking you thru’ this is because you don’t read your Emails. Hope to hear from you.

    Tks & rgds………………Jie

  23. Hi Jie,

Sure, I had registered ,pls.read post and my name is at the top of the list. I will be there for the 3 -5 pm session and then “rush” off to Boon Lay CC by MRT for our 5th Yoga lesson. Not to worry, Jie we can have enough time to attend yoga classes.

Last week, where did you “disappear” to ?

I was only the SHC member around, I guess Tian Soo was busy with his ecofarm.

Pity Tian Soo , not much time to relax although he and his wife are in their “golden” retirement time.

Last week we practice 3 types of exercises to expel stomach gases and it also aids in digestion by squeezing the stomach muscles and improving the blood circulation.

Right now, I still had 453 emails to clear. NOT that I am not reading and deleting them. Reading so many at 1 time can made me pengsan!

  24. Hi Jie,

Steven is NOT = Step hen although sounds the same. I hated the latter version, Step hen ,imagine one stepping on the hen, SI LIAO ( Mampus!)

  25. Hi GraceW,

Can I ask for your assistance to handle the registration on Wed, 4 June at Hans Cafe? I remember you did a good job the last time, we gather there. And if you need more help, well, you can always ask. C u.

    Terence Seah

  26. Hi Terence and GraceW

I would like to take this opportunity to thank GraceW for her kindness. I can assist her in the registration. Please let me know. Thank you.

    Have a good day, JanetH

  27. Hey Steven,
Just checking whether you are awake enough to see the difference in your name’s spelling.!!
I know you are attending this meeting, the question is, if you are going for yoga after that …..what is your travel plan between the 2 points.
    Any ideas?????

  28. Hi Terence n Janet,
Glad to do the registration again,Terence.Janet you are most welcome to help me with the registration .Thank you!
    C u guys next week at Han’s.
    gracew

  29. Hi Terence,

As usual, my workplace is in the north, depending on traveling times and workload, will zoom to Hans as fast as possible…hopefully before 7pm. Great to meet new friends and connecting with the present SHC members as well.

  30. Hi Terence,

Betty and I will try to be there by 6 pm.

    Hi Grace and Janet.

  34. wo! Terence, good improvement to the website… no more ‘squint’ eyes. I haven’t time 2 login quite awhile…wat a change… will explore sometime… heehee.

My calendar is free on 4June for now, I’ll keep my fingers crossed. Good to’ketchup’ with fellow members & also take my mind off work for an evening :)

GraceW, I would like to take your offer for a new name tag, please… ChristinaCL Chan. Thanks much! :)

  35. Hi Christina & Terence,
    Re:- not having to squint.
I still have to squint when I go to the “Latest Comment” page, despite trying the Ctrl/+ buttons.
Otherwise, the main page and normal comments in the main postings…..the font is beautifully large.
How do you increase the font for in the latest comments.
    Tks & rgds…………..Jie

  36. Hi Yoon Chin,
Thank you for pointing to me how to increase the size of the font.
But I think I am rather blur on this.
I went to the ‘Latest Comment’ page. I couldn’t find the ‘Page’ on the menu bar to zoom the font up. Is it hidden somewhere else????
At this rate, I may have to have my glasses changed or quit reading the miniscule font of the page.
    Thanks………….Jie

  37. Hi Terence,

Please sign me up for the evening session. Will try to be there as early as I can.

Hans is a good venue for the meeting, as long as we haven’t found a better alternative :-)

  38. Hi GraceW,

I really like the name tag. If possible, please use the same pix (conical hat & whistle?) with the correct name. Thanks a zillion!

    See you!

    Gingko

  39. Jie @ #57

    To increase/decrease font size:

    Hold CTRL key
Scroll your mouse up (to increase)
Scroll your mouse down (to decrease)

    Good luck!

  40. Hi Gingko,
Redid yr name tag again not identical graphic but somewhat along similar theme as the 1st one with name spelt correctly…GINGKO..CORRECT ?
Hi Bira…u’ll get yrs as requested.
    C u both at Hans
    GRACEW

  41. Hi Gingko,
There must be a hex on my computer.
    Tried your way……no way
Tried holding CTRL and + …still no way.
Still can’t find Yoon Ching’s page.
I think I will give up.
Thanks for trying to help, luck is not with me……Jie

  42. Jie,

Give this a try and hopefully it will help you … go to the top menu that says File/Edit/View. Click View, scroll down to text size and select the size you are comfortable with. Just my 2cts.

  46. Hi GraceK,
    Tried your way….no way.
It’s funny, the main SHC page/postings and comments have good sized fonts. But the moment I hit the ‘Latest Comments’ the fonts are the tiniest available.
Maybe, I wasn’t meant to read it.
Thank you Grace for trying to help……..Jie

  50. Hi Terence
I am able to attend, please ‘reactivate’ me.

Hi Charles Chua and Andrew Kuan
We can discuss our Malaysia trip at 3pm?

    Hi Jie
My trip to Bintan is posponed. I’ll be at this meeting and can drive you and any others to Yoga class from there at 6pm.

  51. Hi, Jie #81:

Could you let me know whether you are using a PC or a Mac?

If you are using a PC, could you let me me know the operating system you are using (e.g. Windows, Ubuntu, etc)?

And if you are using Windows, could you let me know the version (e.g. Win98 or earlier, Win2000, WinME, WinXP, WinVista, etc.

Your problem could be due to the hardware or software you may be using.

    Cheers,

    Ron Koh

  52. Hi Grace!

Please register us for the later session. We can only be there at about 7pm. The names are: Angela Straaten, Hamidah Ishak and Joanne Ang.

We would appreciate it if you could please make the name tags for us as we do not have any. Thank you.

    Cheers!
    Angela.

  53. Hi Tian Soo,

Thank you for the offer of the lift. It is much appreciated. I was about to chicken out of the meeting as it would entail fighting the office crowd at that hour carrying my bulky Yoga mat.
    See you then.
    Tks & rgds………………Jie

  54. Hi RonK,
Looks like I got everyone involved in my problem. I do appreciate it as it refuses to be solved.
I have a PC and using windows XP.
I don’t know what else to say. Except it is strange that the fonts of only the particular page for ‘Latest Comments’ refuses to budge.
When I tried pressing Ctrl and scrolling the mouse, the fonts, eg. in my Email, does change in size.
Hope you can help me on this.
    Thanks & rgds………Jie

  55. Hi ! Terence/Grace,

Kindly include my name in the 2nd session, hopefully can be there in time to meet all of you as work place far from town.

    Mary Chan,

Will you be stay back till 2nd session pls?

    Thank you & Best Regards,

  56. hokien english, new SHC language ah? If you want to learn this new language, you must come to this gathering and see the Master D Lim.

  57. It’s common to hear one telling another “I look forward to seeing you”. But in good conscience, I believe many – male & female – actually prefer “looking backwards” after seeing the forward. Admittedly, the butts are anytime sexier than the thighs and so after going forward to look at him, they become friends making it easy to start looking at the back.

Dont be shy, do it at the 4th June gathering……………

  58. #96 Charles,

I will be there to learn the new language – hokkien english, btw, who is Master D Lim leh? It is refer to Ms. Dolly Lim? I met her once in the D/D & am quite impress of her. Dolly, Keep it up.

    Cheer!

  59. By the Amazing Grace(sorry Grace couldn’t resist the pun)…I’ll be there between 4-5pm.Wearing extra bodyarmour suit over birthday suit and prepared to be under sniper fire (I deserve it for not being understanding enough ) from Terence for boorish behaviour after Vietnam saga and to gather driver Support for Malacca trip …target for 2nd half June and to gather feedback for Vietnam trip in mid September regarding options on budget airlines or Vietnam airlines. Will bring plenty of name cards to pass around this time.We made it for 100 SHC members! Hooray!

Thought for the day…”For things to change I must 1st change”. and for the romantics “you are you and I am I but
together we make beautiful music” .

  60. Ho Ho Terence,

Interestingly as the author you are equally ???? too!

To add on to your inspiration, how about putting colours and use of different fonts to the brief description next to our names… that would make your posting more smashing and equally crazy!!! hee hee hee

    Cheers,
    Grace Kok :D

  61. Terence to add to gracek.s suggestion why not create photos..action/candid ones next to names then post vivid descriptions against them…just my 2cts.
    grace w

  62. Hi Patrick @102,

Giving cards is appropriate if requested for. To push business cards at a SHC monthly gathering is not our culture, and not appropriate. SilverHairsClub does not have corporate membership, only individual membership. Please enjoy yourself, meeting fellow SHCians.

    Terence Seah

  63. Wahpiangz, Charles, Sing-Hok lingo not std, no class la.. mai learn la..

Hi Judy, not sure if Charles is refering 2 me leh.. but den, I assumed must b me lor.. hehehe.. tks 4 d compliment hor… C u on there…

Heng ah.. will bck on Tues….

  64. Terence,
I just got home from a full, full dinner and developed a tummy ache from reading your remarks about the attendees of the monthly meet. I’m beginning to see another side of you, quite different from the once quiet, Terence. Hee. ;-)

  65. Hi everybody,

I love to have some help to welcome the new members. Would you like to raise your hand?

We can then point the new members towards you, during the monthly gathering. It’s a great way to show the new members the warmth of the SilverHairsClub.

Remember, the match-maker role? Overtime, match-makers bring like-minded members together. By the way, in case you may feel the urge to ask, it is not the job of the match-makers to link two persons of the opposite sex. The main role of the match-makers is to piece and link SHCians of like-minded hobbies, activities, ideas, business, travel interests and time.

Anyway, have fun. I am as crazy as other SHCians, whom I would call crazy.

    Terence Seah

  66. Terence,
My hand is raised. I want to be a ‘mak kaypoh’ or is it a ‘buay nang’? hee hee. Besides, I will get to meet all the newbies first right?
“Match maker, match maker, make me a match…..” Will try to match them ;-)
    Good to be ‘crazy’ sometimes.

  67. We have crossed 70 persons mark for this June Gathering. Hope you meet new friends.

MaryC, glad to have you as a match-maker. You know your task, and you know how to start the bowl rolling.

Any more hands up for match-makers? Meet the new members.

    Terence Seah

  70. Hi Terence & Grace
It’s been a long time since I last attended SHC’s function. I have been away for quite a while–I love travelling to different places so I’ve been kept quite busy even though I am a retiree. I would love to attend this monthly meeting at Hans between 3.00pm to 6.00pm.It will give me an opportunity to catch up with some of the old members as well as meet some new members.
Thanks for your offer to make name tags for those who need them — so sweet of you,Grace. I would certainly take up your offer,Grace.
    Thanks

    Jessie

  77. Hi intended attendees for the June gathering,
due to the overwhelming response I’m not able to write to u indidvidually. All those who have requested for name tags to be made will definitely get one….however..now..now ..hold yr horses..I know what u r going to conclude..I have run out of plastic holders..but not to worry..I have e-mailed our dear Terence who is (thankfully n graciously) now in BKK sourcing out the correct size holders n hopefully cheaper than in S’pore. So Keep yr fingers crossed!!BTW folks, my name tags are amateurishly done, I m not a professional so if you receive one that has a flaw r two please bear with it.Hope that they r not so..obvious ,but if names are spelt wrongly please let me know ,I will rectify them.Identities must be correct!Thank you for yr kind understanding. Its a pleasure doing them.Cu on the 4th
    grace w

  78. Hi Grace Wong,

….who have requested for name tags to be made will definitely get one.

Thanks a million for taking so much time and effort to make name tags for ALL of us, SHcians. We are V. grateful and LUCKY to have someone like you who do it out of passion for us.

  79. Hi steven,
Thanks for your kind words.BTW I have made a new one for you as u sort of misinterpreted the graphics on it n is not to yr liking? Its ok, u know, no problem at all.The exchange will take place on the 4th.Suggest you change yr glasses…hee hee..just kidding.

  80. Hi Terence

    Thank you.

    Sophia Lim

  81. For the monthly gathering on Wednesday, we have just hit the 100 attendance mark. We close registration tomorrow Tuesday at 12nn.

On Wednesday, let’s be on the lookout for those who turn up, but did not register on this list. I am tempted to ask the person to buy drinks all round. How about that?

Likewise, if you are not coming, please add a note here for the organisers. Have fun.

    Terence Seah

  82. Terence:

    You wrote at #142:

    Mean, mean, mean! :o)

Some SHCians may have thought that other priorities would keep them away in the beginning, only to learn at the last minute that they can join the gang after all.

You don’t want to discourage these SHCians from coming, do you? Ho sim lah!

    Ron Koh

  83. Wow, this mthly gathering vr lakgu leh.. but Terence, I saw 2 Thomas Goh (reg# 47 & 50) same pax anot?

Lesley, the nearest MRT to Hans’ Cafe is Chinatown but it wuld b quite a walking distance so I think hor, d best xport is by bus lor.. I noe bus# 197 will stop quite near 2 Han’s cafe..

  84. Hi Terence,

I couldn’t help but LOL when I saw your description against Name List No. 36. Do you really believe I am that crazy? Or are you still thinking my family name is NUT! Haha…

  85. Hi Gingko, I was thinking of adding more adjectives, but decide I shall do so when I see you on Wed.

Hi RonK #145, Nah, we will always welcome the last minute ones. What I will be looking out for are two gentlemen who usually fail to register, and turn up. I remember they always wear white shirts. Have fun.

    Terence Seah

  86. Hi Dolly #146,

This is the second time, you spot a duplicate name in the registration list. Very sharp, ah.

I am not sure why the participation for this monthly gathering has climbed, altho this is a weekday. But, it’s always good to see new and old members together everytime.

The next monthly gathering is likely a Sunday morning at a kopitiam in the city. Will give it a try, especially with early birds. Everybody, keep looking out for large flexible and convenient values.

    Terence Seah

  87. Hi Terence Seah,

…..The next monthly gathering is likely a Sunday morning at a KOPITIAM in the city. Will give it a try, especially with early birds. Everybody, keep looking out for large flexible and CONVENIENT place.

With respect to your above para, may I suggest 1 NEW but hardly known LARGE ,CONVENIENT KOPITIAM(satisfy yrcriteria) at CENTRAL Shopping Centre above Clark Quay MRT Stn. From Outram /Dhoby Ghaut take NE line direct to Clark Quay and follow exit (Central)and up the escalator and you are right on top of Central.

In fact, very few customers knew abt this location HIDDEN at 3rd./4th floor at Central. It was with an invitn for lunch by one of my friends that I discovered this NEW Kopitiam HIDEOUT.

NO SIGN at Grd Flr to indicate that a food court exists. And also the food court is ISOLATED in one corner that by walking to 3/4 storeys, you may even MISS it.

One PLUS point at this particular Kopitiam.
You will have a commanding BEAUTIFUL panoramic view of Clark Quay restaurants and Harry’s bar.( MEN’s Night).etc and Spore river directly opposite the clear glass panels.

Even more BEAUTIFUL at NIGHT when Clark quay is fully lighted up not for SHC Sunday AM Gathering but can be another food event here for SHCians who would like to experience a WIDE variety of Thai,Indo,Taiwanese,Jepun,Korean, local food and at the same time ENJOY a beautiful PANORAMIC view of Clark Quay in air cond comfort.

    Ai Mai ?

  88. Steven,
The venue you mentioned, i.e. the Kopitiam at Clarke Quay, is very nice, but can get very crowded at certain times of the day. It does have a lovely view of the Riverside, especially at night.
The question is, will we be allowed to stay on once they clear the dishes away? The cleaners have this silent way of indicating to customers that they have to vacate the table once the food is consumed, by coming up very promptly and clearing the table.
Otherwise, it is a nice place.

  89. Hee Terence,
I think I know who you are referring to, at least one of them. Yep, let’s corner him and get him to buy us drinks ok? I’m wondering who the other one is? Must go check the list again. So many names!

  90. Hey Terence, I just noticed that thing about “one complimentary drink for the first 50 participants”. I’m lucky #18! How do I claim my drink huh? ;-)
Btw, who is the other matchmaker?

  91. Hi Mary Chan,

If it is a HUGE num say 100 pax for Sunday SHC July gathering, a LARGE AREA can be RESERVED for SHCians.

Need to talk to the Mgr.

The same thing happens at Kopitiam at Changi Airport T3.
We had to accompany 3 full bus loads of primary sch students for lunch at Kopitiam.( 120 primary sch children This is part of our RSVP mentoring outdoor outing activity for them.

And so they RESERVED a LARGE AREA and cordon it with guard rails for our use.

    My 5cts. worth of ideas.

  92. Steven.
Yes, it will be better if a large area could be reserved like they did in Han’s.
Then after the meeting, those who want to, can ‘chill out’ at Clarke Quay or have dinner there.

  93. Steven #150:

It would be refreshing to meet at different location for a change. However, have you checked whether the Kopi Tiam at Clarke Quay is open on Sundays?

    Terence #149:

You owe Dolly another drink for spotting the duplication! :o)

    Ron Koh

  94. Hi Terence/Grace Wong

Wow! This June gathering is no Joke – NO Agenda yet hit over 100. If Han’s cafe is not closing its door yet, I would be there after 6:30pm to meet new friends.

    Cheers!

  95. Knn, Ah Sengh, since when did I register leh? Now, MaryC is going to corner me and when we are at a corner, Steven will sure go see what we do before going bonkers and cornering you into another corner doing exactly the same.

If I were the Hans owner, I’ll close shop to others for the day and hang garlics outside……..so that all SHCians will hv uninhibited fun in there. Swim wear, T-backs and G-strings are allowed. Wonder Ronald-W will come with his moustache, or hang it together with the garlics outside??

  96. I will try to come over around 3pm, but will have to leave by 5:30pm. Enjoyed the last session on hand painting. Wonder what’s in store this time?

  97. Hi Terence,

Though I’m still gainfully employed, can I come for the 1st session instead?
Thanks too for striking out my “twin” #50.

    rdgs,
    Thomas Goh #47

  98. Hi everybody coming to today’s gathering,

We are likely to be not very organised today. And, there is also no topic of discussion or agenda. Take this as an oppportunity to get to know one another. Have fun.

    Terence Seah

  99. Dear Terence,
    This is Philip Chia.
I am new to all of you and wish to join the group today.
    Please count me in.
    Thanks…
    I can be reach at 65 82222 7561.
    Best regards, Philip

  100. Hi when you come this evening, please look for Grace Wong and Janet Heng. Also, lookout for our match maker,Mary Chan. If you had requested for a name tag, you will be given one.

As housekeeping, if you are given a list by anyone to write down your name, tel and email, please do so at your discretion. Please help to prevent email spams and unnecessary phone calls.

As the place is huge, and our numbers are big, please find a place to sit anyone, in little groups. Buy your own drinks and food. Take your time, as the venue may not be able to rush your orders.

As we have some balance from previous gatherings, a $2 voucher for drinks will be given at the time of registration, for names in the list only. Please tick against your name on the name list. Please remember your number as serialised on the above registration list. It’s easy on the organisers.

Have fun. And, again, if the gathering appears disorganised, please bear with it. We learn as we grow.

    Terence Seah

  101. Dear Grace Wong

Thank you so much for the lovely name tag. It was indeed a pleasant surprise when I received it from my buddy Dolly who collected on my behalf as I was going to meet her later after the gathering. (I didn’t think I was going to make it to Han’s before 9pm.)

It is very gracious of you to do all these name tags for so many of us even without our requesting for it. You are really artistic. I absolutely adore mine,,,,,the colour, the font, the design, everything. Thank you thank you. :)

  102. Dear Terence and GraceW

Very appreciative that you let me be the assistant registrar.I really, really enjoyed the whole day and evening.Absolutely fun! Thanks also to so many helpers around me.You know who you are.And also the good company of many who chatted with me.It was really a successful and enjoyable event!GraceW, so many members were very impressed with your lovely name tags and they want to thank you very much. But got the wrong person – they mistaken me as you! Haha….

    Dear Steven

Many thanks for the package of all the various seeds. So kind and sweet of you.Gingko got her package, too.

Nodding off and good morning to all soon…JanetH

  103. Dear Terence

I can’t help but have to mention that you are a very generous and kind leader. You gave out $100.Just like that.Such a kind gesture. On behalf of those who had received the ‘angpows’, I want to say ‘thank you very much’.

    A beautiful morning to you…very soon…JanetH

  104. Hi Janet,

Had seen you a few times b4 but not really spoken to you until last night. It was fun talking and getting to know you. We all had a great time chatting and laughing at the gathering. Thank you Terence for that $2/- voucher.

  105. Hi Terence Seah,

1 )Thanks for the $2 Ang Pow.

2 ) Many members including myself and SusanC are waiting ANXIOUSLY for you to put our coloured photos of ANNAS at yr SHC Album.Long overdue.

3 )You told me that it would be up yesterday night but I don’t see any photo link of ANNAS today when I logged in.

    Adios!

  106. Hi Terence and other 10 amicable SHCians,

Thank you, thank you so much, for sharing your precious time celebrating my belated birthday together @ SCOREBOT last nite.

Topping-up of Kahlua & Baileys’ one glass after another, while chatting & contributing real exotic ideas for our forthcoming Games Day in Oct ’08 was indeed fruitful time spent together!

Great fellowship well spearheaded by Terence!

    Cheerio!

  107. I totally agree with Janet that Terence is a very generous and kind leader. He bought us drinks when we jokingly asked for the $2 coupon which was completely given out. I really appreciate his generosity. Cheers to our Terence, the leader for making this monthly gathering possible for all the SHC members. No wonder more & more new members keep coming…headache leh…who’s who huh……

    Ah Nee

  108. Hi Ah Nee, Janet,

I like to clarify. The voucher was not generosity. We had intended to provide the voucher to encourage early participation, but the venue does not have such a concept of having vouchers. We had also had balance from previous gatherings; and I would not want to hold on to it.

Let’s all use the evening’s event as a learning experience, to see how we are going to manage big events in the future. We had the help of Grace and Janet in managing the registration; plus match-maker Mary. One issue is how to get SHCians to register early. This is why some incentives are necessary for early birds. I think everybody is busy and still working. So some consideration may be appropriate, although unregistered turnout can be difficult for organisers.

The next is the venue. Hans @ Pickering is great and fabulouus. It has the size and flexibility. It was good that members buy drinks and also food, as Hans is a restaurant. However, some of us sense the customers were finding us too noisy. We have to think how to handle this. We need to look for big venues, that has flexibility of F&B. Not expensive. Convenience of MRT and buses and parking. Not easy. The near term attendance is likely to reach 200 pax. So, all suggestions welcome.

Great, we are slowly developing the SHC culture. Older members welcoming the newer members, that’s great.

    Terence Seah

  109. Next monthly gathering likely to be at Kopitiam at Clarke Quay or the wide space infront of Esplanade/Collier Quay, by the Singapore River mouth. Need to do some recce and coordination work.

Anybody likes to have a hand at being the Event Organiser for July monthly gathering? Please raise your hand. Not to worry, you will be in the best of company and support.

    Terence Seah

  110. Hi Lily,
Thank you for your effusive compliments at such a late hr in the morning too.It was worth the effort doing for members like you who are so appreciative of such a small but a meaningful task to me.Hope to c you again in other SHC activities.

  112. U KNOW Dolly when I offered my services to do this I anticipated this to surface .Not all people think alike.Thats whats interesting about the Human Race.We do not want everyone to think n do alike, then the world will be a very boring place to live in..Variety is the spice of life!Anyway this is feedback in a positive way. I learn to improve on my tasks in future.
U r forgiven. Im not offended.
    grace

  113. Lina dear
You are really a very sweet and unpretensious lady.I told my church friends that the people here are good. One fine day, would like to go JB with you on a Monday, that is if you don’t mind.Liu is from Paloh, Johore. Was in JB this afternoon and am now back home.

    Hi Steven
When I asked about fertilizer, you can guess that I am not much of a ‘plant’ person.Anyway, I want to be involved and learn from your very kind sharing.I appreciate it very much when you people are very big-hearted and share all your knowledge. Many thanks!

    Hi Terence
My opinion of you still stands.Kindness and generosity and many more attributes will soon surface. You are what you are.

    Hi Grace
You are indeed a very lovely person.Made us all so happy and contented with your so-called small act. Many thanks!Want to help out with the registration for July again?Or gave others a chance as I was given?I’m still willing to do cos I enjoy doing things.

    Hi All
Enjoy knowing so many members. Thanks so much for making the event an enjoyable and successful one!

My apology for being so long-winded. JanetH

  114. Dear Grace-W and Jannet-H, since I cdnt find more superlatives to thank you both (and bombastic words are no longer in vogue), I’ll modify Robinsons’ jingle thus : that with you two womanning the reception/registration, every SHC Meeting is worth waiting for………………

  115. Tim dear

Thank you, thank you.You are really my good friend.Always with encouraging and supportive words.

    Have a pleasant dream, JanetH
