Organise your Mini Events Sept 12 & 13 (Mid-Autumn Festival)

HI all,

In conjunction with celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival,  you are all invited to organise  your mini-Events at the Bungalow.  Guidelines as follows:-

Date and Time : From Friday 12th Sept  12 noon, to 14th Sept 10 am. ( Inside Bungalow, Unit 10 )

Location: Safra Golf and Country Resort , Changi – ( opp Tanah Merah Golf Course ) Shuttle bus available from Tanah Merah MRT station.

Events that can be organised can be from Outdoors activities like Golf,  swimming, tennis, kayaking, cycling, to indoor acitivities in the Bungalow like the following:-

Ron Koh’s Origami or Karen Thio Handicraft lessons, Mary Chan’s Scrabble , Dan Huang’s dancing event,  Clara’s Sing a long or Karaoke to bowling etc.   June Lim , you can have Friday and Saturday night party ?

Lina’s cooking or cake making lessons or barbecue ??

Terence maybe another Orgy night the way you all know how to do it without it turning into a phsical happening or ???

Cost and Restriction:  Book your time slot for your events now , and cost will $5 per participant per event.  Limited to 20 persons per event inside the bungalow.  Outside bungalow event will depend on first come first serve bookings.

Golf at special price too on Fridays , for 2 flights.  There is also Par 3  golf ( 9 holes) that is quite interesting for social golfers and Terence ( once a year golfer)

Sat Moon cake  Pot luck will be on prime time slot at Sat from 5 to 9 pm , and both ourdoors and bungalow hall will be used for the event.

Rooms , they are 2 rooms with 2 beds each will be reserved for guests that are coming in from overseas like Ron from Australia,  Mary, Joan, and anyone else.  But if they are no takers, the rooms will be put on Ebay for auction ???

The Bungalow has been booked with the help of one helpful SHC member at a special rate of $460 for 3 days and 2 nights. So if we are looking at 100 participants the cost will worked out to about $5 each, with all the extra $ if any, going into providing drinks, tidbits, etc.

So all EOs and first time EOs , the stage is already set for you, so now is the  time to organise your events and book your time slot fast and remember the limit of 20 participants per event.

For further info, you can email me at bswi@yahoo.com, Cheers,  Allrounder aka RonWei

  1. Ron

Sorry , I don quite u/stand the above event. R u telling me that we have a bungolow at Changi for Mid Autumn festival and we can get a stall to teach my craft ???

    $5/person – 20/event ??? what do u mean from there.

    karen

  2. Hi Karen,

Yes the bungalow is booked from 12 Sept Noon, to the 14th Noon, Sept.

So you can start booking the time slot (say 2 to 3 hours) to use the Bungalow hall (dining hall and kitchen, etc ) which is air-condition and seat 20 people, or more (but some have to sit on the floor).

The $5 charge per person is toward paying for the rental of the bungalow. For the course/class the charge of material, etc is separate from this. The hall in the bungalow is conducive to conduct courses or karaoke for 20 to 30 people as it will be all yours for that time duration you booked.

As it is now the $5 charge per person is a tentative calculation for now. If more EOs are ready to book more slot time for more events like mahjong, karaoke, dance night , or if Terence wants to book one whole over-night,including the bedrooms, for his orgy event then cost of $5 charge can be reduced accordingly.

  3. Ron Wi, sorry to be the first to turn you down. I will be away from aug 12th to Sept 13th. Looks like I will miss your mid Autumn fun.

  4. Hi RonaldW,

Got one Q. One, is the plan to have the events held in the bedrooms or in the living room area. If yes, you mean the bedroom can hold up to 20 people?

    Terence Seah

  5. Hi Terence and all,

The events will be held in the Main hall area which can hold 20 to 30 people. As for the bedroom up to 4 in a room normally but 20, hymm ..what will they be doing???

For the Main hall, we can have a mini flea market too, if people like Karen , Ron Koh and others to display there products like bags, origami, caligraphy or DAn’s Ice cream ,etc.

For Sat Night it will Mainly Mooncake Mid-autumn festival so Karoake will in Chinese songs and English songs only if it is related to the mooon.

So Karaoke singers Ann, Clara started picking your songs , but will limit to 3 songs per singer so that everyone has a chance to sing, even Terence.

Golf is confirmed on Friday around 1.30pm.

  6. Hi Ron Wie,

I am thinking of reserving the slot on Saturday Sept. 13th for a ‘Jam n Butter’ from 8.00pm – 11.00pm. How many pax can i limit to?

Hope it fix in with your other programs!

    Danz

  7. Ronald Wie,

I don’t understand at all. So if people like me don’t intend to do anything at the bungalow, must I pay $5 and KLKK. Then if SHCians want to stay, they pay rental is it?Your Bungalow looks like going to be very messy leh, like a mini mart or mini bazaar? I thot Bungalow are suppose to be holidaying / relaxing…playing mahjong, BBQing and more importantly gathering and chit chatting over a glass of Red wine or beer. You sounds like marketing this Bungalow…got fun meh ???

    Ah Nee

  8. Hi Ronald Wie

Just to clarify if I come to join moon cake festival kum Karaoke singing (3 songs) and also join Karen’s craft’s class (eg.jeans bag) & also Clara’s sing along session, how many time of $5/- do I have to pay ? Please advise.

    Annie

  9. Hi Ah Nee and all, who have asked me questions through email.

Picture that SHC has a clubhouse from Sept 12 and 13th and has functions room, swimming pool, karoake room , kitchen etc, like a real Resort even with golf, and boating.

So now we want to operate this clubhouse and we want EO (Event organisers or managers) to run the various facilites for the 3 days. Maybe if there is someone who can provide massage service you can also rent the room to offer your service.

So Ah Nee , is the picture a bit better now. So for example let say you and Lina wants to have a small tea party at the bungalow and have a cooking demo, so you book the kitchen from 10am Sat to 12 Sat . After that you can go for bicyle ride and come back for a swim etc, and maybe even join the night Karaoke and dance. Karen may use the time slot from 12 to 2 pm for her Craft making lessons, and then go bowling /tennis, can come back for swim.
So exactly it is like as though SHC has a clubhouse for the weekend for many people to enjoy various activities. For me I will play morning Par 3 golf from 7 am to 9 am, then a little badmintion then join the lunch at the cafe of if anyone is cooking lunch. Followed by the night Karaoke and dance, and overnight binge with Terence etc. HOpe this open up more ideas.

Hi Annie, for your question yes it should cost $5 per event subject to a max of $15 per day, and also depending on response and number of events discount can be given for early bird signup say $20 for all 3 days for all events.

Please bear in mind the idea is to get as many events going on for these 3 days, where the opportunity to have an ideal place is always difficult to find or to arrange or is costly. Like cake making, cooking lessons, etc.

Talking about that as the facility is there,i.e.the golf range, Par 3 course etc, may even conduct a basic golf introduction course for those who can hit the ball but have not gone on the course. They can learn basic course techniques of course management, pitching, chipping and putting and rules of golf.

  10. Heeehe, maybe I will watch from a safe distance – 50m away shd be quite safe – and when the hullabaloo dies down and the dust finally settles, I shall walk up to bury the dead together with the wounded……………………..and then have the whole bungalow to self – lion danz on the bed, play golf in the hall, scribble scrabble on the walls – all for $5 paying from my right pocket into my left pocket…………….

Seriously, take away the regimens, what has been intended to happen at the SafeRaRa bungalow?

  11. Annie Loh

U are very adventurous & lot of energy. I laughed it out loud when I read your msg.

Annie – I did not have your email address. Please adv.

    Karen

  12. Ronald Wie

You said “early bird sign up say $20/- for all 3 days for all events”. If no accommodation how to stay for 3 days ? Any priority for accommodation if pay up $20/- for all events ? Any place to buy foods ? If not, can cook own Magie Mee ? I think silverhairs people can’t survive without foods and sleep for 3 days 2 night. Anyway, no details of event yet, can’t register now.

  13. Hi Annie and Karen (?) and all,

This posting is on decision making for the Mid-Autumn festival events and allocation of facilities fairly to all no matter what your race, age, creed(or clique) so that everyone can feel welcome even if you are coming alone.
Even the organisers will have to priority and as there are only 2 bedrooms that can accomodate 4 people and extra beds that cost $15 extra a night, nothing comes free.
But we want everyone who wants to enjoy the facility to have the equal opportunity so how to allocate by first priority or by balloting or bidding.
For those who think there is too much headache here, dont worry this is not the event proper which will be posted later. This is for would be EOs and experienced EOs who want to participate in making ground rules for future RVs (SHC’s I mean not the Spore RV).
KT is too busy having found a strategy that works in Macao, and soon will be donating a string of RVs for SHC based on his places of fantasy. So it will be good for SHC to have ground rules to manage such RVs in future, so take this Bungalow management for 3days and 2nights as riddle. How to make say 100 people feel equally welcome and invited and share the facilites fairly without getting unruly. I know Tim can talk and Yan can cook. But Yan can produce food that is good to look and to eat but Tim can only joke at people , confuse and create more heat. But hope his great mindcells, dont always end up in smoke, and he can produce solutions that work from time to time, and not just expendings jokes and pokes.
Also welcome other ideas from anyone else with such experience to lay some ground rules for such events maybe in Australia or Vietnam in future.

  14. Hi Annie,

As to question of where to sleep, what to eat, there is a Golf Terrace cafe, the Jumbo restaurant, a Live Band Music Lounge, a pool and bowling alley cafes as well. So you can either book the room to sleep, or the extra bed is cheaper, or even tent outside for free.

You can also use the kitchen in the bungalow, there is a big fridge, a deep freezer, a microwave, kettle and necessary kitchenwares for 8 people. You can also order fast food, Macdonald, Kentucky or Pizza Hut,they do deliver to the doorstep.

As for additional accommodation, I am thinking of camping outside the resort area by the sea and would like to encourage others to join me for the fun, take it easy camping experience.

At the same time you can always come into the bungalow for a bath or a hot coffee anytime you need to, so borrow your’s children’s tent and find a few friends to you. Douglas will probably be fishing, camping and cycling there too.

  15. RonWie,
As boss is also a NSRCC member n our co ever booked a chalet for co party b4, I just 1 2 let u noe dat tent outside is not allowed la.. unless u r not referring to NSRCC. FYI.. Dolly

  16. Hi RonaldW,

Just went into the NSRCC website, and read that the resort is renovating May to Oct 2008. Maybe, there will be fewer people during this time. Guess some outlets may close; but for those outlets that are open, maybe we can take some advantage of space.

Following up from Dolly @16, how far walking distance is the camping ground from NSRCC? Might be a good idea to camp outside NSRCC. I am considering. My tent can take 4 people.

RonaldW, on the kitchen, the website says it is a pantry.

What’s your idea on potluck, on a mid-Autumn night? Guess this will be a big round moon. Very lomantic.

    Terence Seah

  17. “I know Tim can talk and Yan can cook. But Yan can produce food that is good to look and to eat but Tim can only joke at people, confuse and create more heat. But hope his great mindcells, dont always end up in smoke, and he can produce solutions that work from time to time, and not just expendings jokes and pokes”.

Ronald-W, after commandeering a public toilet along the ECP at nite, you rub yr hands and say, ok, I offer it to you all to turn it into a playground, you can swim, play golf, danz, make cakes, cook etc but pay me $5 for participation in activities you organise for yourselves to participate. And when everyone is nudging you for answers, you say, tim, dont talk, dont joke, give me yr solutions…………

You choose a dead corner to danz and when you find that you’re rubbing yr butt on the wall to a sore with no where to go, you think abt Yan, abt tim.

Alright, tim will tell you where you hv gone wrong.

You just cant book a 2-bed bungalow (while expecting a turnout in excess of 100), beautifully call it SHC resort and leave participants to elbow each other out for the priority to organise. It starts haphazardly and must end in no more orderly fashion than haphazardly. It started as a joke and now you know why you were poked?

What you shd hv done was, inform all that there’s a bungalow booked for $x on given dates. Participants will share the cost equally. Then you suggest and you organise (but you can ask for volunteers here) what you think will draw participation. Whatever, fact that you hv so little space for folks to put up over the 2 nites will dissuade altho die-hards like Terence, Yan & tim will still support you even if it means that we put planks across tree branches and sleep up there with ants and insects.

  18. Hi all,

Only the main event which is the Pot-luck and bring your own lanterns to light up the beach is meant for all.

The Bungalow and facilities is for those who want to use it for specific purposes/classes and small interest group gatherings to meet at the same time.

About renovation, it only involves certain units of bungalows and the other facilities are not affected. About camping have it is disallowed outside the NSRCC resort, but do see people camping around that area near the resort Seaside adventure club, which is also open to us.

Good Terence, if your tent is empty will definitely join you camping, so others can use the rooms, and exra beds. If not will pitch my own tent or just use a sleeping bag and big umbrella.

All those who are planning to go camping at Chiang Mai, can try what it is like by the East coast, just as beautiful if not better. We can also have a campfire sing along and midnight fishing.

  19. Hi all,

Some nice lady who is a UK trained hairstylist and have even sytled the Brunei royal family has graciously volunteered to conduct a class to teach basic hair cutting skills. Ladies and men are welcome. So hurry, only 20 seats to ensure that the class is manageable and that all can do a little practice.

Class will be on Sat 13 Sept from 2pm to 4pm. Only 19 seats left, me included. Class is free, $5 fee for classroom usage applies for each participant though.

  20. Thanks Tim and all for your feedback,

All we want to do is makes things fun, easy and just enjoy what the facilities the resort has to offer. Also from what I have read in the past, many like Karen, RonK, June and Dan who wanted to organise classes have had difficulties finding a place at an affordable cost.
So now I agree with you it may sound funny to put 100 into one bungalow, but it still can be done if different interest group use the resort at different times and will find it more cosy, comfortable and spend more quality time to conduct a class, share a cake , coffee or bottle of wine, etc.
That is the idea behind the various time slots and there is no need for all to appear together at the same time to enjoy a good time.
Anne and Clara you can gather a few people and enjoy the Friday having Karaoke and having a barbecue.

Ok to make things simple, $5 charge a day only for each participant and ovenight stay will be at $10 per participant for extra bed, and $15 for room (twin sharing). CAmping is encourage and is free.

  21. Hi Ron,

I am interested in the hair cutting class. Presume it will be held in the holiday bungalow? Sorry if I seem to be a little ignorant as I am still in the US and therefore do not check the blog regularly. Please put my name down tentatively and I will confirm once I get back and settled. Not sure if there are some dinner of sorts to attend as I vaguely remember.

Anyway, will contact us when I return, thanks!

  22. Hi RonaldWie

Me too, I’m very keen in the hair cutting class,
please include me. Though have attended this course
many many moons ago, as usual, all forgotten, now a
    good chance to recall !

    Regards
    Ann Lim

  23. Hi ! RonaldWie,

Kindly include me in the hair cutting session. BTW, would appreciate if you could advice the venue to hold the class pls?

    Thank you & Best Rdgs,

    Judy

  24. Rone-W, it does show you hv a lot of tact to change tack at #21 instead of taking the bull by its horns @ #14 and got yr yankee pants torn under yr butts.

Believe me, any sensible folk bothered to traverse half the globe to be at that far-flung 2-bedded resort inaccessible to public transportation wont want to just suck their thumb thumb and watch sunset, and that’s fair. Whatever activities being held when they are there will likely be attended by the majority which of cos shd be welcomed rather than the teacher holding court with no attendees.

For me, I will definitely join in the hair cut practice and for the practice only. So pls start keeping yr moustache and goatie and I shall help you turn over to a new leaf.

  25. Hi RonWie..thanks but offer came a bit too late pls as I hve decided on Oxford Hotel for the Sat nite fever to be held on 30 Aug. No posting as yet bec still bargaining with the Oxford guy to bring down the cost.

    Thanks for your support la.

    karen

  40. Hi Steven,
Are you organising MC’s cumming as a mini event in the Mid-Autumn festival?
Think you should post it more on Terence’s post on having an orgy night, or in posting on ‘Independence Day’, or ‘Looking for members with similar interest’.
I also do engage in partnership/giving us for such events,if you asking, maybe can try Karthyn posting on ‘Looking for a partner. Cheers, thought you enough in your Vietname travel.

  41. Dear friends,
Before I proceed in leading the sing-along , i would appreciate a reply/sign up to show your keeness in participating in this singalong event.I have to do some working on this…
    Your co-operation is needed. Thanks.

  42. Hi Clara,

I would join you for the sing-along. I am not sure of the equipment at the bungalow; but yes, I eager to participate, day, night or after midnight.

    Terence Seah

  43. Dear Clara,

    Re: #51 –

I will definitely come and support you in the sing-a-long.

    Hi to all SHCians,

Please come and join in the sing-a-long. You can learn to sing the popular and melodious Chinese songs along with us.

Come on and give Ronald Wie, Terence and Clara your enthusiastic support.

    Cheers

    Bernie

  44. Hi all,

There are still slots available for anyone who wishes to organise any event. Take note each participant will only be charge $5 per event/class which can be from 2 hrs to 3 hrs.

The charge of $5 is to cover the rental of the chalet at $230, electricity charge for air-con,etc. Drinks and coffee/tea will be provided.
So if you event needs an aircon room with a big hall, and you dont have to worry about how many is coming then this is a good opportunity for you to use this bungalow for you event.
Even if there is only 3/4 persons to play scrabble, you can still book the slot, and for the event organiser you only risk to organise any event is $5.
The good news for those who really want to stay the whole to attend all the events will be $10 no other extra charge. And you can also play scrabble, mah jong when they are having Karaoke but you have to arrange your maj hong set.
Karen, you already know Han’s is not suitable and maybe also any outdoor garden.
IT would be better to have the your painting class on Sat morning when you can have the whole bungalow to hang dry all the painting. If you class start early from 8am you can have up to 4 hours specially for your class.

Dan,Karthryn, Steven,June(SNF again?),and all would be EOs, KT Wong too, hey do some class or organise a special meetings you can bring your own food, wine ,etc.

For those who think this bungalow event is meant to be making big money, I hope I can, then SHC can have a bungalow like in the next 10 years, or at $5 per person, maybe in the next 1000 year. So be generous try and sponsor or contribute some food, cakes, gifts to sell and we will try to see how much we can make ??? Cheers

    Cheers

  45. Hi Ronald.

Perhaps we can have our Sep monthly meeting at this venue. Can this place accomodate all the members who will turn up? We can start doing a headcount when the date draws nearer.

Also, we can have the music jam, singing & dancing session too. If you need help in this area, let me know.

    Cheers, Lydia.

  46. Hi Lydia,

Yes Friday night Sept 12th will be Country Line dance and Jam sessions, hope Anthony and his friend will join us to stay overnight too.
Terence is thinking of having his Mid-Autumn night, camping at the beach and having his orgy night with whatever that comes to his tent, something craby, crawlie or even a stray cat or doggy.

Sat 13th Sept will be Any Dance and Karaoke.
But as there is a limit of not more than 20, it will be more of a cosy, session where those who know can really teach the rest be it line dance or social dance.

Sat morning, those who are keen to have a early cycling can start at 6am and have breakfast at Changi, and have a good swim after that, while enjoying the beatiful the atmosphere of the Banyan Tree class type of resorts.
Those who love sea sports can do kayaking or boating on Sat or Sunday.

It will really be fun and you will enjoy this place that few people knew about and was actually promoted at one time by Benson too, as there is also a bowling alley, badminton, tennis court, a Jumbo restaurant, a Cafe that is quite famous for it’s laksa, local dishes etc.

There is even a Lounge with a live band if that is what you prefer, but i guess nothing is better than a cosy group of people enjoying themselves having their own barbecua, dancing and jamming.
Ok, not to say did not that limited to 20 people, but anyone wanting to camp outside with Terence is free to do so. Bring your tents or sleeping bags and have night at the nice cosy Changi beach while the rest (8 people) enjoy the cosy rooms, but you are welcome to use the bathrooms.

Lydia please feel free to rope in anyone you think will enjoy this chance and will fun doing it.

  47. Pauline

Thanks for support but I may not be teaching on that day.

We will be having a “Fabric painting” on shoes this coming AUg9. If u are interested , please email me at karenthio@hotmail.com

u can view the photo in Fabric Painting” posting…

  48. Hi Ron

I’ll be in S’pore in August but not sure if I’m there still to attend your gathering. If I’m there, can you put my name down tentatively for golf and also for some craft course, if no clash. may need to borrow some clubs.I may not need accomodation but certainly transport. I will reply to confirm through your contact no/email address.
