Travel Insurance anyone knows of any better offer?

Hi all,

Since it is the start of the season for travel it is also good to ensure you are adequately covered for your overseas travel in case of any emergencies, flight delays or lost luggage, etc.

I just got a call from Citibank this morning for an offer of a year’s travel coverage worldwide including Malaysia for only $137 ( from ACE insurance it is supposedly $150).  Since it is a year’s coverage you are free from having to fill up your travel details everytime you travel out.  The coverage also includes lost items due to theft , lost luggage , hijacking, medical and personal liability coverage, etc.

So I guess with this settle, I can travel at least with some comfort in mind.  Anyone knows of any better offers? Terence , can you share with us your coverage plan and details and the repayment of your laptop due to theft that happen last year?

By the way, ACE insurance also covers personal protection for sporting, accidental injuries or illness and hospitalisation coverage while you are in Singapore or overseas for a monthly premium of about $25.  With me roller blading, cyclng , and travelling most of the time I guess it is better to be protected.

Cheers

  1. Hi all,

Just a comment to add to Terence latest posting from CM, “Terence Seah

Wow, we finally landed in Bkk airport yesterday at 4.30pm. The good news was that both Helen and Julie had their bads forced open, and Helen lost her camera.”

I am not promoting ACE insurance but the idea that it is good to be covered for the many other unexpected things that can happen during any travel.

One other point to note is to have the receipt for everything that you have bought and are bringing on your travels (keep a copy at home too). One reason I always pay using Visa for everything I buy is that together, with the receipt your name is there too, so there is less dispute to making claims, etc. Also Visa do guarantee for purchases within a certain period for theft or loss, such as in the above case. So Helen if you have bought your camera using Visa, you can try calling Visa to make a claim too in addition to the Airlines.

    Cheers

  2. Hi all,

For those who have asked me for more info, please check their website/contacts below for more details. Citibank has this special offer for only $137 for a year worldwide coverage. You can try to get this offer through ACE or other banks.

From what I know it can cost just as much for a week’s travel if there is no offer, so it is a good bargain if you travel often. Their personal accident too is quite good for accidents covering most sports/events like blading, skiing, hazardous work areas, etc and includes hospitalisation and medical costs too in addition to other policies.

Just sharing what I think is a good coverage at a reasonable cost.

  3. hey ronald, i did the internet search of the website you listed, the calculation showed on site is $300 for the worldwide coverage.
so do you have a definite person name or package offer you are quoting? it is not listed on the webpage.
your $137 is a good offer if it is correct.

  4. Hi Feztus,

Ok will get you the details once I received them from Citibank. I agreed to sign up as it sounds a good offer as I have paid about half this amount just for a week’s cover.

But I think this is under Citibank’s special offer only.

    Cheers

  5. Hi All,
Called up ACE and got this info for those who’re interested:
    1) If you call Citibank direct, it’s $137 for annual cover and you’ve to mention it’s for Credit Savvy traveller cover.
    2) If it’s thru ACE, it’ll be $150 annual as this is a Citibank promotion
    3) Ace has two other travel insurance, i.e For Global cover, standard is $270 and $372 for Superior Pkg. There’s also the Regional cover for Asean countries @ $192 for Standard and $295 for Superior. Hope this info helps.

For good bargain, it’s better to call Citibank. Lisa
