  1. Hi Francis and the Committee Members,
I had noticed that there are too many posts related to this event which at times make the members very confusing. Why cant you just stick to 1 post and update accordingly. It would be even more messy as to at which post the photos to be published later which I am sure right now OiCheng is already seeing stars over her head liao… Dolly

  2. Dolly Lim,

Thanks for your suggestion and feedback. I agree with you. There will be no more new post for SHC D&D 2009

    karen

  18. Hi Genet Leong # 34

Thanks for your keen interest to join SHC D&D 2009 even though you joined on 20th March (one day after official closing of payment for D&D).

As the Event Organiser of SHC D&D 2009, I am very much pleased to invite you to join by making payment to Berni’s account by today and write a comment about your having made payment, giving the detail and mode of payment.

A seat is waiting for you in vegetarian table. May be, you are the guest of honour, seating on your right will be founder Terence and on your left will be Event Organiser Francis R Mangalam ha ha.

Attention to those who had missed the last date of payment 19th March.

I had received some SMSes and emails and also comments from some members, who had missed the last date due to office leave problems, shift allocation problems, unsure about traveling. They want to join the Mega event. I request all those persons, still keen to attend, to send emails to me (francisemail@yahoo.com), explaining their difficulties in meeting the last date. I will consider them on case to case basis. I will try my best to accommodate as many as possible.

    Francis

  19. Hi Myra Chia #30,

Do you still have the ticket, if so I’d like to buy it for my friend, Ronnie Sow who just joined few days ago (admin to confirm). Let me know the a/c to transfer payment. My email, pop.inn@hotmail.com

  20. Hi Francis #37,

Thank you so much for your kind invitation :-) :-) :-)

I have transferred S$45.00 via internet banking to Berni’s POSB Account 005-05093-6, Ref 2175154064 at 7.53pm just now.

I look forward to meeting all of you. Being new and I don’t know anybody at SHC yet, it will indeed be my honour to have 2 great “hunks” sitting by my side ;-)

    See yer.

    Kind Regards,
    Genet

  21. After reading the posts on the D&D, my adrenaline is bursting. Anyone has a spare tyre for me.(Ooohs, I mean a spare ticket from someone not going.) I will buy over lah. Must join the BIG one, with all the psychedelic parades of fun and laughter.

    LeePat (Song Juan)

  22. Hi Lee Pat(Song Juan) #41

Please do no let the adrenaline burst now. I will keep a ticket for you. Please pay cash into Bernie’s POSB account tomorrow and give the detail of payment. With so much fun and laughter in the Mega Event of 2009, you need a lot of adrenaline to keep you for 6 hours of non-stop fun.

    Francis

  23. Hello Bernie / Francis

Kindly note that Mr Ronnie Sow (Patrick Chan’s
friend) has bought over my ticket.

Once again, so sorry for the inconvenience
caused. You must be so busy now sorting out
and making all the final arrangements.

    Thanks
    Myra

  24. Hi Karen Thio

    Regarding #35,

It is not free-seating. So all members need not rush and wait in long queue with a water bottle, a face- towel and an umbrella for the doors to open as if there is a closing sale, announced in newspapers by big departmental stores.

I AND EVERY COMMITTEE MEMBER WANT TO TREAT EVERY MEMBER AS A VIP.

So members can come at their convenient time without any rush knowing fully well that there is a seat specially allotted to the person. Of course, all the members cannot be seated near the stage.

Every member will be served by hotel staff the dinner at their respective table. No need for any member to rush to stand in the queue, waiting for their turn to get the food. Some members may be shy that they do not want to stand in the queue for the second time, even though they are hungry

    Francis

  25. Hi Gibson #18,

I had not seen you for a long time, after you stopped dancing classes in Whampoa cc. Of course, I saw you, a tall, slim and handsome guy with a slim and trim lady, Susan Chan in Feb monthly meeting. But I forgot to invite you for the Mega Event 2009. Thanks for your support

Bernie has updated your status as halal and paid #132.

Rock the floor on the Mega event day with your superior dancing skill.

    Francis

  26. Hi Vivien Ler #38 and Doreen Ng #14

Vivien, I also take this opportunity to thank beautiful and cheerful Doreen Ng for helping me with booking a table for her and her friends.

I am also grateful to her for having collected money from her friends and made a single payment. It saved me and Bernie a lot of time and energy in registering and updating the payment status for 10 members as a group.

I am sure that you all will have a wonderful time, enjoying the Mega Event.

Hi Doreen, I know you will be very busy with your friends on that day. But please give me a chance to dance with you. I would love to glide the floor with Waltz with you.

    Francis

  27. Hi Genet Leong #40,

I have collected nearly 100 items as sponsored gifts (excluding door-gifts) and storing in my flat. I need volunteers to wrap the items in wrapping papers soon. I also need volunteers to move the items from my place to hotel Furama on the day of Mega Event.

The carton containing 10 red wine bottles, sponsored by Diana Loo is very heavy. Bessie Lam has gifted so many items that I had to use both my hands to carry the things and she also had to use her trolley loaded with other things from her car to my flat. Thanks a lot to Diana and Bessie.

You are a new member. I invite you to be a volunteer for the Mega Event 2009. If you do volunteering, you will meet other members before the event so that you will not be feeling so uncomfortable on the day of Mega Event.

    Francis

  28. Hi Francis #49,

Itz my pleasure to help out :-)

Just tell me the tasks you would need me to do.

BTW, pls advise if you are referring to wrapping the gifts on weekdays or izzit this weekend ?

    Kind Regards
    Genet

  29. Hi Francis,

    Today 24/3/09 at 14.21 I transfer $45/- into Bernie’s
A/c 005-05093-6 thru ATM. And pls. do not forget to include me in the D&D lists. Thank you.

    Lee Patrick (Song Juan)

  30. Sorry Bernie/Francis.

Transfer time is 16.57 not 14.21. Ref: 1255 into Bernie’s A/C. thru ATM. (24/3/09). Cockeye lah! see wrongly the printed time on the transfer slip.

    Leepatrick

  31. Hi Francis,

Gee, looks like you and your team have finally pieced together the entire Dinner & Dance. I guess most of us are amazed how your committee brings this show together, organise a vegetarian and halal food menu, get so many sponsorship items and work with the hotel, within such a short time.

And, now I see SHC volunteers coming in early to help with making sure the table cloths are correctly laid, and of course, the words “SilverHairsClub” spelled correctly. We are all going to be excited. I read Bernie is going to sing, she must be terribly excited too, all eyes on her.

So, what are all the men going to wear to this “Roaring 60s’ night”? A white singlet, in shorts with a black belt, plus a pair of charkiak> How to dance with charkiak?

For the ladies, Bernie, what are you going to wear to this night? LinaN, and what are you and your friends going to wear? Not that I am going to take your advice; but really for the fun of sharing.

And, for the chiu kuis, I am bringing along a bottle of Kahlua. Coming back from Shanghai and straight into dinner and dance, if anyone likes to drink Wuliangye (???; pinyin: w? liáng yè), please let me know.

Thank you so much Francis, and to all the enthusiatic committee and attendees for making Sat 4 April so excitingly close.

    Terence Seah

  32. Hi Terence # 53

I, committee members and volunteers of THIRD SHC D&D 2009 are very happy to know that most of SHC members including the founder are amazed how we organized various interesting activities within short span of time.

I am very grateful to each and every committee member and volunteer of the Mega Event who put their whole hearts into the project and sacrificed their valuable time.

I am thankful to you for having chosen me as the EO for the very prestigious SHC Mega event knowing fully well that I informed you that I never had any previous experience in organizing any big event other than organizing small dance classes and dance parties for SHC members.

    DRESS CODE FOR THE NITE

Dressing is informal but not casual. Of course, white singlet, in shorts with a black belt, plus a pair of charki not allowed.

Committee would prefer the attendees to dress suiting the theme of the event “The Roaring Sixties”

    Elvis Presley/
John Travolta/ ONJ and above all, miniskirt was the rage then.

Our committee members will take special care to use to dimmer to dim the lighting depending upon the how mini, miniskirts are going to be. So do now worry.

“And, for the chiu kuis, I am bringing along a bottle of Kahlua. Coming back from Shanghai and straight into dinner and dance, if anyone likes to drink Wuliangye (???; pinyin: w? liáng yè), please let me know.”

chiu kuis, Kahlua and Wuliangye sound Greek words to me. But please do not forget your neighbour in the Vegetarian table, EO of the Event. I will definitely give company after my dance performance Latin Cha Cha .

    Francis

  33. Hi Genet # 50.

    Thanks for your reply.

I request you to meet me and the committee members today 8.00 pm at Hans Café, Upper Pickering Street, Great Eastern Building. We can discuss about your help with committee members. Please confirm

    Francis

  34. Hi Terence

Wear bell-bottom or tight pants plus psychedelic or sequin long sleeve shirt unbuttoned half way but too bad men no longkang to show haha with hair gel up or afro style, worst to worst put on wig lah aiyah so itzi hee..hee.
Not forgeting wear boots not army boots hor….
    Cu soon

    Cheers
    Hamidah

  35. Hi Francis #50,

Aiyah, no need to “request” lah…mi no problem one.

I will skip my Aerobics Class 2nite and meet you & the C’ee Mbers at Hans Café but I will be slightly late to avoid the ERP rates and finding carpark…so solly abt it. Oh and dun worry about my class….I guess the rest of the people will be happier that the elephant is not around to cause earth-quake in class….^_~

Another thing is that I really dunno where exactly is this Great Eastern Building as I m a BluRR Queen and onli know how to get between work & home. Checked the http://www.map.gov.sg/StreetMap/ alredi but still can’t find leh %-(

    Hi Hamidah #56,

Will u be there 2nite too? Can u tell me what 2wear for ladies ? I ain’t no ONJ and can’t wear tight tight as in the movie Grease lah.

    Kind Regards
    Genet

  36. Hi SHCians,

SHC MEGA EVENT OF 2009, Dinner and Dance Night is coming very near. I am glad to note Genet Leong is willing to help our committee. We also need some more volunteers for the following:

    1. Wrapping of sponsored items in a few days
    2. Logistics- Transport of sponsored items to Hotel on 4th April 2009. Kindly note that I am not driving and rely on public transport.
    3. Video-taking of the several interesting activities on 4th April 2009.
    4. Any other activities on or before 4th April 2009

If you are keen, please do reply to my request by replying in this post or by emailing to my email address francisemail@yahoo.com

    Francis R Mangalam
    EO
    THIRD SHC D&D NITE 2009

  37. Hamidah, men don’t have longkang to show, so just stick some hairs on the chest! Oh, and side burns for men too. Terence got a nice wig for the occasion which makes him 10 years younger. But sometimes from a certain angle he can look like a loan shark!

Terence, my Saturday Night Fever mini skirt was thrown in the washing machine, so it got even shorter. So can’t possibly wear that! Bee hive hairstyle, hair band, bell bottom pants, mini skirts, tight fitting blouse, leather jacket, sunglasses!

Bernie, I am excited for you too. Jia yu, jia yu.

  38. Genet Leong # 57,

I do not drive. So sorry, I cannot help you with direction how to reach Han Café.

Can any of my friends, driving, help her? Dan Huang, Susan Chan, Margaret Tien and others.

Yes, your friend Hamidah will be there.

    Francis

  39. Maybe I can give Genet some direction to Great eastern Bldg b4 I log off for lunch.

Easiest if you are coming from the west, taking the AYE into the CTE and out at the havelock exit. Drive on till you cross 2 traffic junctions – the first is the eu tong sen street junction and the 2nd, south bridge rd junction.

Once you hv crossed the 2nd junction, you’ll be along upper pickering street, and GEB is immediately on the right. You will have to find somewhere there to park.

  40. Hi Francis, Tim Liu, Sue Chan & Oi Cheng,

Tks for your super fast replies and help on the street directions plus the map too :-)

Now I know why I couldn’t find the place….name should be “Great Eastern Centre” & not “Great Eastern Building”.

    See yer 2nite.

    Kind Regards,
    Genet

  41. Hi Genet,

Depending on where you are coming from, you can park in the building on per entry charge after 6.00pm. The venue is quite near to Chinatown.

Great Eastern Centre is diagonally opposite Hong Lim Park on Pickering St. You may also park at Fook Hai Building on Upper Hokkien St.

Still loss, just holler for me, and I will try to meet you somewhere!

    Dan

  42. Hi Dan,

I am going there from the West. It seems that Tim Liu has ESP on where I am staying.

BTW, are you staying at Clementi since you brought up the topic of the dance class @ Clementi CC starting this Friday. If you are going to Great Eastern Centre 2nite do you need me to “dumpang” you? Ermmm…make sure you are insured (from heart attack)….I am auntie driver :-p

    Kind Regards,
    Genet

  43. Well, Genet, of cos I know where you stay..dont you remember we used to stay together until, in the name of progress and development, out habit was destroyed and the elephant had to urbanise while the monkey stayed put since there’re still many papaya trees where he can hide.

Btw, you wont see me at GEC tonite but i can wait for you in the bushes next to mandai zoo and the password to remember is, i bring you a blackforest…….

  44. oooops, it shd be “our habitat”……..”our habit” will really make the steam and raise the heartbeat………………….not typing well, effect of bad eyesight, sigh…………….

  45. Hi Genet #57

Since I could sit in committee as requested by EO last year due to tight schedule,I can only volunteer to kepo2 help in other ways. Cu 2nite will talk abt dressing etc..

    Hello Lina #59

I like the way you wrote so cute & funny lah esp abt certain angle look like loan shark. If no hairs to put on his chest TS can go to hair saloon collect those cut hairs (can choose some more prefer curly or straight type). I suggested TS wear boots but if he wear wrong type ie yellow plastic boots then from another angle look like PCK…. alamak susah lah.

    Cheers
    Hamidah

  46. Hi Dan #67,

Hope you enjoy your chess game & thanks again for your help.

    Hi Tim Liu #68 & 69,

Luckily I dun suffer from heart attacks…almost fainted when I read about you mentioning “our habit”….anyway thanks for making my jaws dropped from so much laughing. Hope my boss dun think I m crazy…snickering away machiam seow char boh.

    Hi Hamidah #70,

Goody goody….I am so excited to meet u 2nite.

    Kind Regards,
    Genet

  47. Hi Karen Thio # 36

    “Francis
Sorry , just read your comment on #33 but why party end so early huh ????
    Karen”

Thanks for your feed-back. Sorry for the delay in replying.
In the committee meeting yesterday, it was discussed and the time will be extended. Revised program sheet will be in this post.

    Francis

    “a 2Nite Stay of a One-Bedroom

On 5th February, I wrote #22 of on Bernie’s post, the following

    “What is happening, friends?

First, voucher for couple spa and 100 sets of spa gifts, 10 bottles of wine from Diana Loo.

Second, is the voucher for spa or Swedish massage for women from Steven Chan.

Can anybody guess next what sponsorship will be?

May be, voucher for few days stay in a hotel for a couple? Anybody wants to sponsor complimentary voucher for few days stay in a hotel for a couple?”

You both sponsored what I wanted. Thanks for your support.

You may contact me my email address francisemail@yahoo.com to discuss the collection of voucher.

    Francis

  50. Hi Francis,

Your committee teams did a wonderful job..within such a short period…looking forward to party with all the lovely SHCians..

And not forgetting your request #47, since I not been practising my waltz for quite a while..can we do latin cha cha instead???

    Hi Vivien…

You are most welcome and always fun having you around..look forward to boogie with you again…:)

    Cheers…see you guys soon…

  51. Hi Doreen Ng # 76

    “Hi Francis,
Your committee teams did a wonderful job..within such a short period…looking forward to party with all the lovely SHCians..”

Thanks for your encouragement and appreciative words for the Committee. I am trying to have few pleasant surprises for the Mega Event of 2009. The surprises are the hot topics in our forum. May be, you might have guessed them. I am trying my best but no promises.

Regarding your request to rock Latin Cha Cha with me, my answer is YES. It is a rare opportunity to rock the floor with a lady, having an unique skill in dancing ( you can dance both line dance and partner dance very well).

    Francis

  52. Hello Francis

The crooner of evergreen mandarin song myself, would like to present a mandarin number, for the floor to dance their hearts out. If there is still slot for my song contribution. Being a volunteer professional Emcee of numerous events in the past, you are sure of the entertainment value.

    EO

  54. Hi Lee Patrick (Song Juan) #78

Wow! You are full of energy, man. Adrenaline is bursting. But still have energy to croon to the members?

Performance is officially closed. But as the EO, I use my discretion to allow you to sing one song. Bernie will include your name. May I know what song you are going to choose?

    Francis

  55. Wow Francis, you are a real accommodating EO. Thank you. I will sing a fast beat number in Mandarin, English translation is “Late nite kiss” to mesmerise the all the beauties of SHC who attends the function. Sorry guys !

  56. Hi Francis, wonder if you are meeting Terence somewhere this week?? I need those name tags holder so that when I have finish printing the name tags I can slot them in as I do not want to have them dog-earred.
Terence, are you in town? Any way I can pick those holders from you as I understand that the dinner is on 4 April 2009 which is like….6 days from now as I only gotten the reply from Francis today….appreciate your understanding…..can email me at everson_theblueplace@hotmail.com

  61. Hi SHCians,

A very good news to new SHC members, attending SHC D&D NITE 2009.

Doreen Ng, along with a team of ladies as attractive as she is, Sue Chan, Catherine Yeo, other , has agreed to do the duty of Club Guest Relations by introducing new members to all the senior members like Terence, Dolly Lim, Yew Kwong and others at the venue.

They will also answer any queries relating to our club or D&D Night 2009.

The team will try its best to make new members enjoy the Mega Event fully.

Thanks a lot to Doreen Ng for taking the initiative to form a team of attractive and lovely ladies.

If any new members want their help, kindly register their names here.

    Francis

  62. Dear Francis

Congratulations to you and your team for putting up this Mega Event. Muah! Muah! to all of you.

I can imagine all the headaches and heartaches that you went through in organising this party for us.

Thank you and your team for the great effort, spending loads of your energy and time for us.

I am so looking forward to the party and I can safely say that the other members who have registered to attend must be as eager as I am.

Francis and his team has put up an impressive stage so its now our turn to make sure we make full use of it and enjoy like there is no tomorrow.

Yay! Five more days to go!

    Cheers
    Caroline Gee

  63. Dear Caroline Gee #90

Thanks a lot for congratulating me and my team. I also received your Muah to me. It was very sweet and warm ha ha.

We have been trying our best. But they may be some errors of judgment and some mistakes in executing the Mega Event.

Third SHC D&D 2009 committee is made of young blood, most of us not much experienced in organizing an event as big and prestigious as this.

So if you and/or others members come across some lacking in organizing the event, I take full responsibility. My heart-felt sincere apology to each and every member.

    As my friend Caroline commented,

Enjoy event like there is no tomorrow.
Forgetting all our worries and sorrow

The music of sixties songs will roar.
Let us make merry and rock the floor.

Continue to be happy till come mid nite.
And go home, our faces happy and bright.

    Francis
    EO

  64. Hi Caroline,

I cannot agree more what you said. Somehow I do like variations. Francis and his team have come up with something different. Must say in all my 50 years, I have never attended a dinner which is Halal and vegetarian. Hmm, a dance workshop. That’s different too. And, with a number of helpers too, all willing to make the night hot for SilverHairs.

The swimming pool is fantastic. Come and enjoy the late afternoon air, and meet your new found friends, old ones too.

    Terence Seah

  65. Terence # 92

“with a number of helpers too, all willing to make the night hot for SilverHairs.”

Yes, you are right. I am very much blessed in this. The list is very long; some of them are who is who in SHC

    1 Jeffrey Gan
    2 Goh Soh Sim,
    3 Karen Wong
    4 Joanne Ang.
    5 Diana Loo

    12. Sam Goh
    13. Mary Ann
    14. Hamidah
    15.Patrick Chan
    16. Joy
    17 Anne Chua

If I left out any other helper’s name, please forgive me for my old age and huge fatigue in organizing the Mega Event.

    I wish each and every helper for volunteering their valuable time and precious energy;

Special thanks to Anne Chua. Even though her business commitments do not permit her to attend D&D, she is kind enough to make name tags for all the attendees with colour and theme of Roaring Sixties Night”

    Francis

  66. Dear Dolly

We all LLP already. I dont mind if you dont mind my beating the drums which may not be in tempo with your movements. If you want me to be the lion, then I dont mind the weight of the lion head because at the back hor, wait cannot straighten to dance rumba with you.

    Caroline Gee

  67. Hi Anne/Francis
Thank you very much, Anne for the offer to make name tags of all of us for the coming D&D. But pls exclude mine as currently I already had 3pcs in my inventory, see no point to have so many name tag solely for 1 purpose only. Nevertheless, thanks for offer. Dolly.

For those that already had name tags, suggest that we save the green lah.. use what we had instead, ok.. Dolly

  68. Carly Dear

When I see Dolly said she knows Lion Dance I wrote to her applying for post “Doa Tau”, job scope to carry fan & dance gelek2 in front of her but she haven reply whether my application successful or not.

  71. Hi Caroline

Wah, u really A+++. Guess u frequent the Gym everyday 2 build up your muscles. I rather beat the Gong 2 the tune “tak untong, adah untong”.

  72. Yew Kwong

I only want to beat “Adah Untong Ada Untong”. The other one I dun wan to say heee!

So Dolly carry the lion head, Midah will be the Dao Tau Doll, Caroline the drummer and Yew Kwong, you can bend and be the tail of the lion.

Hope that little bit of muscle acquired during infrequent visits to the gym helps.

Seriously, I was at the old folks home visiting during Chinese New Year and there was this Lion Dance Troupe. Their drum beat was good so I asked them if they conduct lessons. I have taken their phone number. If there is enough people interested to learn, then I will check out their fees etc.

    Sorry Francis. Detoured a little.

    Cheers
    Caroline Gee

  74. Hello Francis,

I try not to bother you but I can’t help it. I need to know if there are ample carpark lots on the D&D night? Just want to make sure, otherwise I don’t know where to put my car! Sorry hor….you must be very stress and busy coordinating the BIG day. Thanks!

    Ah Nee

  75. Ah Nee, there are 5 storeys of car park, so parking should not be a problem. What we need to know is whether parking is free-of-charge. After 5pm, parking is charged at $4.35. And they have a very nice swimming pool.

  76. Dolly & Carly

Now that Terence in Bollywood/Bangra craze why not for a change we dance Lion dance to Bollywood song…think stylo milo esp me the doa tao shake2 the big head like in Indian classical dance haha. We name it as Bollylion hee..hee

We have 11 members, opting for veg Menu . So my committee member, Catherine Koh, taking additional responsibility for menu, venu and F&B, had talked to the Hotel yesterday to have a big table to accommodate 11 vegetarian members and Hotel agreed.

Since you are opting for vegetarian menu, I had already requested Catherine Koh to discuss with the hotel about having a bigger table to accommodate 12 vegetarian members.

    I will keep you informed.

    Francis

  80. Lee Patrick(Song Juan) # 109

Thanks for your compliments. I am very much honoured.

I am passionate about dancing. So please be the first person to vote for me if I enter into any dancing competition with my dancing partner Catherine Koh to make us dancing champions ha ha.

    james

  96. Hi Francis,

One jug of beer for me, I am not a drinker but certainly can down a glass or two. Like I last did in Bangkok and those fair ladies from SHC have to drag me back to the hotel!

I am sure more can contribute to the jug of beer at $24.00. Can be shared by 4 person at $6.00 a glass or $2.40 among 10 drinkers.

    Dan

  97. Hi June,

Understand that you will bring the $50 Coffee bean voucher and the tea leaves voucher tomorrow. Please pass to Francis or James. Thanks again for the gift!

    Francis, do take note.

    Dan

  98. Francis, this is a great way to save on corkage. Buy 7 jugs of beer and we save $200 on corkage.

So, 5 jugs already booked by Terence, Bessie, Karen, Dan and James. Anybody else wants to buy the balance 2 jugs?

Francis, does this mean we dont pay corkage for wines, and liquors that we bring along then?

  105. Hi Francis

I am very curious to know how is the seats in this event be
    allocated ??

All the while I tot it was a first come first serve type of arrangement so my group of fren was there b4 530pm .

I did not follow up with the posting in this event , so some of the members were telling me that front seat are allocated to those who make early payment or early registration.

If this is true , I make payment so much earlier , why am I be allocated to the last 2nd Table No 13 ?????

We cant even heard a thing of what the MC is talking about and even the music …

Would like an explanation on this. Thanks.

It is quite a good event but sound system is very bad and those few tables at the back – we really don know what is happening the whole night …

My 2 fren came late and they are not given door gift or lucky draw coupon at all…

    karen

  106. Hi Karen Thio #144

First of all, I,as EO, offer my sincere apology to you for the inconveniences, experienced by you in The Mega Event of SHC 2009.

    1. Allotment of seats in the event was decided by the organizing committee. While allotting the seats, preference had been given to committee members, helpers, dance performers, singers and sponsors for better co-ordination among themselves during the event.
    2. I have not been informed during the event about the bad sound system. Otherwise, I , my committee and helpers might have tried our best to improve the sound system.
    3. I had been informed during the event about two late comers who had not been given the door-gift. I immediately contacted the sponsor and arranged for the door-gifts. I personally given the gifts to a member ( Ron Wei, if my memory is correct).

    Thank for your support.

    Francis
    EO

  107. Last night at our D&D, I was glad to have a number of interesting SHCians and am more inspired to see SHC coming up with more fun and friendship.

It was nice we had a good mix of Singaporeans. Am pleased to see Sarah Zariah who join SHC in 2006, Hasimah and her husband, Sekaran and Dhevi, and a senior SHC couple Roy and Cecilia Restan. I hope you make more friends with SHC, and join us more often.

I did not have the chance to get to know Patrick Chan better before, but when I saw him on stage playing the electric guitar, I must say he is smooth and pleasant. Personally, I would make some effort to meet him again at the Tanglin club. Jonson Tan has always striked me as someone tall, dark, mysterious and quiet; but after hearing him sing on stage, gosh, this guy is really going to be fun to know. He also dances well. Can judge a good book from its cover.

Two singing events ago, I did not get the feeling that Bernie Chung can sing. But, when I saw her coming up on stage to sing, I was almost in tears. It’s not just guts, she had strength and determination. She didn’t have to prove to anybody, she had to show to herself she can sing, in front of a big audience. She did, and well to. Bernie, that’s the way.

I am no dancer. The only dance which I learnt some twenty years ago was rock and roll. But, I am no dancer, altho when I saw Jonathan Ong, I felt inspired that maybe I should pick up dancing, so much for an useless founder. Importantly, the D&D was a surprise to me too. I did not realise we have so many SHCians who loves dancing. More than 90% of the guys and gals got on to the dance floor, within an hour, after my opening speech. i don’t think I have ever seen this kind of “Can’t wait to dance” urge before. Hmm, Janet Loo, Xiang Xiang, Ben Foo and Catherine Yeo, you dance very well, seems like nothing holds you.

Dan Huang, you too surprised me with your talent. Able to handle the sound mixer, not just chess, bowling or badminton. I wonder where you learnt all these skills from? I think most of us notice your trainee Joy Chuang has graduated in photography, and she is now promoted to Photgrapher, level 6. Sock Cheng who has taken thousands of photos is probably Level 4.5. I cannot wait to see your photographs.

Must try to keep this comment short, or else no one will read it. But, I shall come back with more observations, after I land in Perth.

  108. Hi SHCians,

I thank each and every member who had attended the Third SHC D&D Nite 2009.

My special thanks go to thirteen members in appreciation of my work for The Mega Event.

    1. Mr. Sam Goh, who honored me by buying a garland.
    2. Mr. Lum Fook , who honored me by presenting a bottle of wine, he won in Lucky Draw.
    3. All members excluding me in Table 5(Vegetarian Table),who honored me by presenting a bottle of wine, when they did the word quiz right .
    1. Terence Seah
    2. Catherine Koh
    3. Tan York Choo
    4. Dolly Peh Siew Choo
    5. Margaret Lim Poh Thiam
    6. Sekaran Sandirasekaran
    7. Gengha Dhevi
    8. Annie Lim/Goh
    9. Lim Geok Suan
    10. Patrick Lee-Song Juan
    11. Ganet Leong.

The Committee and helpers had been trying their best. But they might have been some errors of judgment and some mistakes in executing the Mega Event.

Third SHC D&D 2009 committee and helpers are made of young blood, most of us not much experienced in organizing an event as big and prestigious as this.

So if any member came across some lacking in organizing the event, I take full responsibility. My heart-felt sincere apology to each and every member.

I have a small request. Yesterday, I borrowed a camera from my son for taking pictures of the event. Unfortunately I could not use because the camera indicated memory full. I tried with Dan Huang, Boon Liang. But the problem could not be solved. Similarly my Nokia N73 was faulty. So I could not take any video also.

I have seen a number of members, taking pictures and videos of The Mega Event of SHC 2009. I request members to share with me the pictures and videos if they are comfortable. They can email the pictures to francisemail@yahoo.com. Regarding the video, they can contact me via my email address regarding the collection.

  109. Dear Terence @ 146,
Thank you for the compliments. I am also very happy that more & more SHCians have found dancing enjoyable. Maybe its time you start taking lessons at Danz’s classes, so that we can all boogie together again next year.

    Dear Francis @ 147,
Thank you & the Committee for organising the 3rd SHC DnD. Below is a small ‘video dedication’ to thank for the hard work & effort all of you have put into last night’s event.
Hope all SHCians will enjoy it too ;-)

  110. Hi Jonathan,

The video clip is fantastic. How did you get the name of Francis and the D&D into this website? For others, have a look what Jonathan has shared with us.

    Terence

  111. Hi Jonathan # 148

I have nothing to say while viewing the video. Tears just rolled down my cheeks. I was speechless and motionless for few minutes.

Thanks a lot for showing me in your special way that you enjoyed the show very much.

Soon I will be meeting both of you with my dancing partner Catherine Koh in Raffles Town Club to thank you personally and spend the evening dancing away and chitchatting.

  112. #147. Table 5 got a prize of a bottle of red wine when we
    did the word quiz right.

And with consent from the table, we all give you (francis) the wine due to your work as EO of the nite.

Please acknowledge all the members in TABLE 5 who give the wine to you. You got one bottle from Lum Fook and one bottle from table 5 SHC members. Thank you

  114. Hi Jonathan #148

Wow that is a really a good way of appreciation to EO & the committee members. Wonder how you did it, you must be expert in IT. Haha at first I thought I click the wrong video until much later I saw Francis name appear. No wonder Francis felt so touch abt it.

    Hi Francis

No big deal. But just want the whole SHC to know we lifted you sky high. Hahaha! It involved 11 members lah! Thank you

  116. Hi Jonathan #148,

What a great way of appreciating the EO and the committee members! Wow!

    Table 1 members:
Doreen Ng, Rene, Ron, Michelle and Ben, I’m glad to catch up with you once again.
It was my first time meeting you both, Patsy and Peter. Patsy, nice working on the quiz together.
Also, Thomas, glad to have met you too after hearing quite a lot about you. Haha.

Thanks to all for the fun and yum-seng together!

Thanks to EO Francis and the committee. Good job!

    Cheerios!

    Vivien

  117. Hi Jonathan

The video is indeed fabulous, just like Hamidah, I thought I was watching the wrong footage, click off and re-click just to be such. I enjoyed it very much.

It just sums up the whole big thank you and greatest appreciation to Francis and his team who had a mammoth task of organising this Mega event.

Francis and team – Thank you for an evening of fun, socialising and letting ourselves go.

    Cheers
    Agnes

  118. Hi Lee Patrick # 154

“just want the whole SHC to know we lifted you sky high. Hahaha! It involved 11 members lah! Thank you”

Thanks Lee Patrick. I am very glad that keeping in view some of the 11 members are celebrities and well-known in SHC

    1. Terence Seah – Loving and caring Father. Sorry, Founder of SHC
    2. Catherine Koh – Sexy and curvaceous dance performance queen of SHC
    3. Gengha Dhevi – Attractive and shapely Bollywood queen of SHC. Strong contender and best choice for EO for Bollywood night, brainchild of our founder. Future dance performance queen.
    4. Patrick Lee-Song Juan- The ever-green romantic crooner, who makes most of the girl’s hearts melt with his sweet talks
    5. Ganet Leong- Slim and trim new comer. But within a week of membership, she created a special place for herself in SHC with her wonderful profile.

    Francis

  119. I have been reading these 2009 DnD postings found as new threads at several places in this forum on the side. Now that the dust has settled and that this mega event of the year has entered as a page in the SHC annals (yes, double “n”), I’d like to say something.

It’s never easy to organie an event of this scale catering to about 140 folks with different expectations and focuses (yes, what some see arent what they look at).

The event was held at a funtion room of a hotel which may not have been attentive to all details such as the sound system. As the evening was meant for the demure and coy to shed their inhibitions, shout and be boisterous, even a better sound suystem wd not have been much help.

While it’s good to give feedbacks so that future events will be better prepared, if I were there, I wd have jumped right into the thick of action and made a monkey of myself and everybody. Tho tere must be a script, an order of events for the nite but heck care if I cd add a bit more unplanned color and fun.

And I note from Sengh’s comments that Jonanthan presented a danz. I wd have upgraded his danz to a lion danz……..see, where do I find another dolly more natural and gifted than Jonathan?

  120. Yes Tim….I totally totally agree with what u hve said!!!

That nite, the food was not that yummy, the dance floor was so hot bec of the poor airconditioning there…(EO and committe, this is no fault of yours ok!! :-))) ..But I didn’t care. I enjoyed seeing old faces, dancing, secretly admiring Bernie her courage on the stage etc…My main aim was to enjoy myself that nite. And I did.

  121. Hi Terence#149, Hamidah#153, Vivien#155, Agnes#157…
Glad you all like it. Actually, its very easy to do the video. At the end of the clip, there is an option of “Create your own video” which you can use to name the person you want to nominate….Have Fun creating your own.
e.g. Here’s a tribute to Terence Seah, Founder of SHC
    http://tiny.cc/1AAQC

    Hi Tim # 159
“And I note from Sengh’s comments that Jonathan presented a danz.”

I am very publicity shy, so did not perform anything la!
To those who did perform the social & line dance items, who sang, who played various instruments, thank you it was enjoyable to watch. I think everyone enjoyed themselves, there were people dancing on the carpet, outside the room, along the corridors etc etc. The live band & singers & MC were also fantastic, so many talented people in SHC.

Tim, as for the rest of the comments from a non-attendee, you’re spot on. There can always be a lot of things that can be improved, but as Terence likes to say, it is always good to have some disorder in such events. The EO & committee did try their best, despite the circumstances, to ensure everybody at least had a good time.

  122. Hi Friends

Photos for the 3rd D&D uploaded. Please select category Annual D&D, then view. Select the latest update dated 5 Apr and scroll to bottom of post for link to photos.

There may be more coming from other photographers and will upload when I receive them. Meantime, happy viewing!

  123. A note of ‘Thank you’ and appreciation to the EO & committee
    members for your efforts contributed.

Bernie, admire your courage to sing on stage!

Hasimah, you’d won lucky draw (a jug) & I’ll keep it till I
see you in next event(hope not too long).

    Rgds.

  124. June-L, Lee-Patrick & Jonathan, thank you thank you…….

I stole a quick look at the fotos and saw many botak heads like me, which is understandable as we age but was shocked to see an anti-ageing process in motion. Yes, there was this pretty with not just luxuriant hair but also a coconut tree growing on her head! Dont bet against a colony of monkeys making it their home one day………

In another, I saw her…..this time not showing us her Ho but, with her hands held high by a handsome, as if to proudly declare to us this : see, I told you right? No hair, no “mud”?

In short, we have 2 very contrasting ladies….one so fertile that not she grows hair & shrub; the other, immaculately hairless…………hehe, will the latter, not to be out-shone, start to grow hair on her armpits? Sit tight and wait for the answer at the next D&D………

  125. Hi all diners,

Thank you for your presence and for making this event with
    so much fun and enjoyment!

May I know if anybody videotape my Bachata performance with
    Susan Tan.

Appreciate you can send it to me at james_jul04@yahoo.com
or send me the link to a storage site. My camera was not
working on that nite. Thank you.

  126. Hi James Tan, #166

At last, the unassuming EO Marketing speaks up.
Without your marketing, etc this DnD may have missed something. Kudos to you too. A shame, I did not have the honour to meet you on the DnD nite. You prefer to be incognito. Well done, James for being such a humble guy.
I always believe that Humility is a wise man’s measuring rod. Keep up your good work.

    LeePatrick

  127. Dear Ptrick #167,

Thank you for the compliment. Though you didn’t see much of
me, I saw that you were having a whale of a time throughout
the whole nite. Many pretty ladies were dancing with you.
You are one hell of a romantic and charming Romeo.

    Keep it up.

    james

  128. Dear Francis & Team of Committee Members,

Kudos to you and your team of committee members for having organised a spectacular event with all kinds of graceful dances. To highlight a little, our dear Hamidah & her beauties were great in showcasing their sensual hip movements as they ‘gelek’ along with the bollywood tempo! James & SueTan with their bachata moves, yourself & CatKoh in your latin dance, all of you are EXCELLENT DANCERS!

Compliments to Jeff & musicians for their repertoire of great songs played throughout the nite. Pat Chan ~ you’re very sporting to join the band on stage bringing back the oldies. Our lovely team of guest relations led by charming Doreen Ng, along with CatYeo, Renee Leong & Agnes Seow ~ you ladies are GORGEOUS!

Not forgetting our 2 Mcs, Ban Peng & Hong Cher ~ you two are charismatic & full of energy, the appreciation from diners with cheers of ‘Yam Seng’ were so prominent!

Francis, you’ve got a good start as EO and to spearhead this annual event is not easy, but you did it well!

    Keep up the good spirits!

  129. Hi,

We would like to thank the D & D, EO-Francis, Commitee members and all SHC members who attended the D & D night. Although, we are new members (about 6 and 3 month old members), we felt great attending the D & D as though we have been there for years. Although we attended monthly gatherings, the D & D night makes a great difference to us.

Its seems we are getting into our younger days as couples with our children supporting our outings too. If not for being SHC member, our life would have been dimmer. No more, we are moving on to a brighter side of our life. Last month, we went for a 10 days Yunnan tour, this month D & D nite and next month we going for Kelong. Only our leave aplication will be a hindrance to us as we are still working and getting our leave approved together seems not good for us. We will still strive to go for more activities/events as couple.
Once again TQ to all SHC members/friends,EO’s of events and future EO’s too in advance. Thankyou, Terence Seah for brainchilding SHC. Rgds

    Sekaran # 170

Thanks a lot for showing appreciation for the party.

What makes me happy is that all of you (except Tim Liu) threw all your inhibitions on The Mega Event, enjoyed the live music, rocked the floor and made it wild party like Zouk party.

    Francis

  131. Aiyayaya, Francis, you very the aslamak lah……….

Frankly, I think Karen-T has made a fair point which is instructive for the next EO to take note and the EO of this year’s mega event to appreciate. Clearly, there’s no malice in her suggestion which was her experience speaking from the heart.

I have seen her volunteer at SHC activities (such as at the Concert and the CNY Chinese NY charity event) and I must vouch that she does always put her heart and soul in there.

  132. Tim & Dolly

    Thanks for compliments …. I did not follow the posting/comments of D & D .

Few members I asked told me is free seating and some said whoever pay first will get better seat in front of the stage and I beleive that should be the way.

I am surprised that as a EO – your reply was – it is the committe that arrange the seats ?????

I was even angerier when I asked for 2 lucky draw card and the door gift and the lady who gave the lucky draw ticket to me – ask me to take it & go – am i not paying for the dinner , why she have to give it in this secretive way ??

I was surprised that someone actually played the harmonica on stage and i did not even know it..Pauline Khoo commented that she don even know at all.

I don know what was happening that night at the front stage at all and was very disappointed of the seating arrangement.

My fren left after after the dessert was served cos they feel very left out in a way .. no door gifts no good seat when we actually arrived b4 5.30pm.

  133. Hi,

I wish to express my thanks to Francis for allowing me to sing during the SHC D & D event on 4/4/2009. Thanks for the encouraging words and moral support from Francis, Terence, Bira, Genet and others regarding my singing. I really enjoyed singing the song and I sincerely hope that all persons present that night at the D & D had enjoyed my singing. I am indeed worried and nervous when I didn’t hear any applause after my singing.

    Cheers and Peace to all

    Bernie

  134. Hi fellas SHCians,

The D&D is over, a big thank you to Francis, James, Ban Beng and Hong Cher for a job well done! Frankly we must admit that along the way we do worry whether it will turn out right.

From the onset we ancounter problem of some commitee members backing out. To a point where Terence got to get Yew Kwong and Dolly to sit in the meeting. We were actually short-handed with most of the committee members holding more than one responsibilties.

My job was just to take care of photography, but in the end I have to take care of videography and acting as sound manager. I am grateful that Joy could help me with the photography. That night both of us did not get to dance at all. Joy was did not sleep the night before because of a flu!

The call for gift wrappers was done a week before the event and we did manage to wrap the more than 100 gifts. We are grateful for new member Genet to help. We do appreciate the help from our fair ladies like Sue Chan, Doreen Ng, Rene Leong and Cat Yeo as guest relation personnel coming in only at the last moment!

All the committee members have overstretched themselves. Therefore we are sorry that there are some disapointment in the area of sitting allocation and poor sound effect.

The committee members comprised of some very new members and all of us has done all that we could. All of them like Catherine Koh, Bernie have put in lot of efforts and time and Hamidah and her dancers even chip in to man the registration desk with the help from Diana Loo and James.

We could do with a lot of more help but we are glad we persevere till the party was over!

    DanzforJoy

  135. Well, well, it’s never easy to organise a mega event and so, first & foremost, credit must go to the EO and his Committee for their dedication. They richly deserve the appreciation which I am sure guests of that evening will readily & unstintingly give.

Having said that, if every feedback is deemed a brickbat then tim tim liu will be liu-ing his nose and nit typing to post via the internet as mankind wd not have progressed from the stone age. So equally, justified feedback shd be appreciated.

But in fairness, I diont think it’s socially nice to be late for any function. Surely, the GROs and those manning the registration desks cant be expected to wait with door-gifts in hand for late-comers. They too wd like to partake in and enjoy the activities.

Now that all’s well ends well, i can now go and rest in peace. Come into my dreams and see me play the nuke………with the nude mr kim.

  136. Hi Karen Thio # 175

Please refer to our comments in my post regarding the seating arrangement which is self-explanatory. I explained the seating arrangement to you very clearly as early as 24th March 2009. 10 days before the Mega Event.

    March 24th, 2009 at 11:33 am e

Since I’m not able to log on to the SHC website I’ve to congratulate you by email for a great job done at the D&D

Many thanks to you and the dedicated committee for giving us members a good time.

Without a doubt you all had sacrificed a lot of time and energy preparing & organising the D&D.

Without you taking up this daunting challenge of organising the D&D we might not even have a D&D to attend.

Once again a BIG thank you to you and the committee, some of whom were working throughout the nite and had no time to enjoy.

    In appreciation

  138. Karen, since the party already over, let bygone by bygone, ok as nothing can b done now. But I am sure we will take this in2 consideration next time.

Francis, every members got their rite to say after d event, b it good or lousy 1. Just take it and shd there b another opportunity, at least, you can learn to be more sensitive on this kind of issues.

We knew earlier is not free seating but how the seating arrangement was being arranged and based on what category these arrangement was being placed was also not spelt out prior 2 D&D. Though I can understand that the table layout floor plan is being done by hotel but for Karen’s case, my sentiments is wif her…. Dolly

  140. Hi Sue Chan # 169.

Thanks for your in-depth appreciation of different segments of The Mega Event 2009.

The team of committee members, helpers, dance performers, singers and sponsors of the Mega Event 2009 is like a very beautiful bungalow, built brick by brick(Member by member) over a period of 4 months.

When I raised my hands to be EO and Terence appointed me as EO, I had only one member with me. My friend, teacher and guide Jeffrey Gan. He was the pillar of strength and moral support to organize the event. Next my friends in dancing circles James Tan, Dan Huang, Gea Ban Peng and Catherine Koh joined as committee members and remained with me.

Another friend in dancing circle Hamidah Ishak could not join the committee due to her tight schedule. But we both discussed and agreed about her giving a surprise Bollywood dance and dance workshop in the Mega Event.

Later Bernie volunteered to be a committee member and I welcomed her with a big smile. Every member was kind enough to take on additional duties, allocated by me and did excellent jobs. Thanks a lot, guys.

Other members joined the committee but had to leave due to personal, official and family reasons.

Slowly sponsors, Diana Loo, Bessie Lam, Silver Lining, June Lim, Chua SK, Steven Chan, Sam Goh, Alfred, Yew Kwong, Anne Chua and Richard Kee started supporting me with thousands of dollars of sponsorship in vouchers and prizes. To my pleasant surprise, Diana Loo and Sam Goh wanted to be helpers knowing I was short of manpower. Thanks a lot, guys

Susan Tan supported me by agreeing to give a performance with handsome James Tan. Edwin Tan, Patrick Lee SJ, Tan Ji Liat Jonson supported me by taking part in Song and Talent segment. Thanks a lot, guys.

Patrick Chan and Susan Chan agreed to help me with best dressed guy and lady, Hamidha and friends with registration, Catherine Yeo with gifts presentation, Hong Cher with Co MC, Ganet Leong and Joy Chuang with gift wrapping, Mary Ann with decoration, Doreen Ng, Agnes Seow and Rene Leong with Guest relations. Thanks a lot, guys

The team members are large in numbers but synchronization and coordination among them are excellent, perfect and flawless.

Just like the Theme “ Roaring Sixties Nite” , the strong team made the Mega Event “Roaring Successful Nite”

    Francis
    EO

  141. Francis

It look like the front sitting members are thanking u for the event …

Why no one from the back said something ?? Well , last comment from me – since joining SHC – this is the worst event I ever attended

    Karen

  142. Francis

While I acknowledge the fact that it takes great effort to organise an event and no one event is 100%, it is important for the EO to be open to feedback, be them congratulatory or otherwise.

I too noticed that those alloted seats at the front tables were mostly new members from the Kembangan Dance Club and I believe they join as members so that they can come to support you and Jeffrey.

We, the current members were alloted seats behind and because of the layout of the ballroom, we cannot really know what was going on the stage unless we walk to the front to watch.

I must say this is not a good venue to hold an event and the way the tables are allocated was not fair. I wouldn’t feel this way if only a maximum of 2 tables were reserved for the committee members and helpers and the rest should be free seating so if anyone wants to sit together, a representative can go early to reserve the seats for the rest.

Hopefully, you get my message right. I have nothing against those seated in front as I too know them but I do not agree on your allocation system.

  143. Francis,

I concur with Oi Cheng about the allocation of seats. A better layout would be to have the dance area in the middle of the hall which allowed all diners to have a better view as happened in last year D&D at the Pines.

On who is to seat where as decided by you left much to be desired. You may be new to SHC and therefore not too acquainted with some of the members who booked a whole table in support of this event.

The feedback on the food served is mostly negative. While there is a need for novelty, past experience shows that it more value for money if we stick to the International buffet-style dining. We have learned our lessons, let’s us move on from here!

    Dan

  144. Yes Dan, that is the main idea. Be open to feedback. Current and future EOs can learn from it. Everything we do is a learning experience.

“Everything we do is a learning experience.” I fully agree with you.

I do not have much prior experience in organizing a big event with more than 140 members. Yes, organizing this event has been a learning experience for me.

Regarding the seating arrangement, I take full responsibility. My sincere apology to every member, who has been inconvenienced by the seating arrangement.

Taking Gingkgo Biloba?…only a glance & you remember my nama…..thank you:

“i don’t think I have ever seen this kind of “Can’t wait to dance” urge before. Hmm, Janet Loo, Xiang Xiang, Ben Foo and Catherine Yeo, you dance very well, seems like nothing holds you.”

  147. Hi Karen Thio #175

“I was even angerier when I asked for 2 lucky draw card and the door gift and the lady who gave the lucky draw ticket to me – ask me to take it & go – am i not paying for the dinner , why she have to give it in this secretive way??”

Fyi Karen, I volunteered to help Francis & committee in registration part out of sympathy as they are short handed & I even asked my 3 students (new members)to assist in issuing lucky draw tickets & name tags as I know I can’t manage it alone while I assist Diana Loo with door gifts. I’m not aware of the incident whereby you said one of the lady gave you 2 lucky draw tickets in secretive way & asked you to go. I don’t know which lady you meant but whatever it is I can assure you she did not do it on purpose and all I can say is that they are inexperience and this is their first time handling this kind of task and that is also bcos I requested them to help me. Should their course of duty offended you in anyway, my very sincere apologies to you Karen on their behalf and hope that you don’t keep at heart. Pls forgive the registration team members as you know it’s very very hard to please everyone.

The lucky draw ticket was on the table when i asked and I believe my fren is entitle to one each even thought they are late.

As for Door gifts, I u/stand that if they are late, they may not be able to have it but FYI , someone asked on my behalf and she was given … what can i said from here.

It is not about the ticket or the gift … but everyone should be treat fair ..

I don blamed anyone for that … it over , like what the other commented – we learnt from experience.

U don know need to please anyone but everyone should be treated fairly , afterall … nobody pay higher price for better treatment .. all paid $45 , right ??

    Thanks for replying.

    karen

  149. Hi Karen

The registration team were advised to issue Lucky draw tickets to attendees when they are there personally. To what I recall when registration is closed I returned all unclaimed tickets to James & put them on the table next to stage & as for door gifts sponsor took back. For late comers when they came later part of the evening they personally looked for committee member. I can only remember the late comers that I attended to are Ronald Wie & if not mistaken also Helen Wong & that also I just gave Ldraw ticket & when asked abt door gift, I told them to ask Francis personally. Other late comers I’m not aware cos by then I was busy changing costumes for performance.

Anyway human beings we bound to make mistakes & there by
    learnt from it.

Pls cool down lah my dear friend don’t get angry..wait we look old much faster haha. Once again tui pu chi hor

Tks a lot for your compliments on my team bollywood dance.
Too bad I missed watching all social dance performances as I was at registration table but I’m sure they perform very well.

Hope you & Bira will in future will showcase Indonesian Dangdut dance for a change & guide me, Nor, Zariah & Hashimah. Boleh kan?

    Cheers

  152. Hi SHC Spice Girls,

Last but not the least; my special thanks go to SHC Spice Girls, Doreen Ng, Susan Chan, Catherine Yeo, Rene Leong and Agnes Seow.

All of you spiced up the Mega Event evening with your excellent service, lovely smiles, elegance, poise and sophistication.

Not as the EO, but as a man, I will carry with me the following sweet moments for the rest of my life.

    1. In olden days, a lot of kings were ruling different parts of India. When a king wanted to marry off her daughter, Princess, he would request the eligible bachelors including Princes of other kingdoms to come on a specific day to show their talents in front of the Princess. Then the princess would go around, with a garland in her hand and garlanded the man whom she liked. The chosen man was the luckiest guy on that day.

When I was giving my welcome speech as EO, I saw beautiful and cheerful Doreen Ng standing with a garland in her hand. Once I finished the speech, she garlanded me and gave me such a tight hug that I was breathless for few seconds. Doreen, thanks a lot for making me a hero at the age of 50 plus.

    2. I was sitting in my seat, watching the program. Suddenly, MC called me to the stage. I
stood up. Immediately, both my arms were pulled out sideways and came two fair, lovely and beautiful arms both sides. I looked sideways. Fair and gorgeous Catherine Yeo and stunning and lovely Rene Leong were standing on either side, hugging me; ready escort me to the stage. It is a dream come true for any guy whether teenager or man having hair, the colour of silver, to have two beautiful ladies hugging him at the same time. Catherine Yeo and Rene Leong, thanks a lot.

Because of too many things on my mind, I could not fulfill the requests of the following three Spice Girls.

    1. Slim and Trim Spice Girl Susan Chan. Few weeks ago, you had made a request to me to invite you for Bachata dance on Mega Event. Sorry I could not do.
    2. Beautiful and cheerful Spice Girl Doreen Ng. Few days ago, in a post, you had made a request to me to invite you for Latin Cha Cha dance on Mega Event. Even though, I danced with you Rock&roll, Disco Rock, sorry I did not dance Latin Cha Cha with you.
    3. Fair and shapely Spice Girl Agnes Seow. During the Mega Event, you made a request to me to invite you for RockandRoll, sorry I could not do.

I offer my sincere and heart-felt apologies to all three lovely ladies.

Mega event is over. Now I am free. I am sure I will be able to fulfill your requests soon.

  153. Hi,

Forgive my maiden attempt at videography. Both the video clips did not look good as expected. My appreciation to Albert Tan who loan me his video cam!

This new link on the dance performance was recorded by Boon Liang on a Fuji S8000 model. The shooting was pretty good and bright enough. Maximum recorded time is up to 2 GB as stated in the manual. I owned a similar model without realising it function as a video cam too. See how much I missed, thanks Boon Liang.

My apologies to James Tan and Susan Tan and Francis and Catherine Koh, because I was manning the sound system I did not videotaped your dance performances.

  154. Hi Francis & D n D Committee,

Kudos to a job well done and giving us a memorable night to remember.

However, there is still much room for improvement in the following areas :-

    (1) The Sound System was so POOR. Those diners sitting at tables right at the back No: 12,13 and 14 could hardly hear what was going on and sometimes the voice was so DISTORTED and MUFFLED. This is the 1st.time in my life where I had attended this D n D function whose sound system is so POOR. This is my personal opinion but you can choose to disagree.

    V. often , I had to stand up to see what was going on the stage.

    (2) As Oi Cheng has pointed out that the dancing stage should be better located at the centre so that ALL can see from different angles. I totally agreed with her.

    (3) For those who have registered 1st.and paid within the dateline, they should have the 1st.PRIORITY to be allocated the BEST seats available and NOT reserved for the PRIVILEDGED Kembangan Committee.

(3.1) They should be a better distribution of ladies and gentlemen in each table if possible.

    (4) An international buffet would be more appropriate than Set menus. Quite a number of us after the D n D went out for supper because our stomachs were still ” GROWLING.”

I hope whoever is the next EO carefully take note of the following suggestions above.

    My 8 cts. worth.
    Steven Chan

  155. The greatest satisfaction in life comes not from Fame or Fortune but from volunteerily devoting ourselves to do something to the best of our ability.

In execution of such, and involving many personality of sorts, it can never be ‘a shot in the bull eye’. There will be misses here and there. That shows the imperfection of happenings. And the adage : you cannot please all the people all the time, is very apt.

Hence, with greater restraint and understanding, constructive feedbacks and a willingness to accept that as human we are not infallible to mistakes, the perspective positive view of any event will over-ride the negative aspects of unintentional neglect.

As the common denominator is to enjoy and let loose our otherwise demure self, we should throw caution to the wind and unwind our true nature to exhibit the other side of modesty not without reserved but with joyous participation,
as in my case. I really enjoyed the evening nevertheless!

As we focus our viewpoint further, like looking from the mountain top, we will realise the beauty of the scenic view captured from that vintage point. Our subconscious will be awakened by all the efforts spent and the amount of work done to sincerely wanting such event like the 3rd DnD to be successful, we will feel a sense of contentment
and pride for all SHCians who have in one way or another contributed to the phenomenal success of the evening. A calmness will thus prevailed in forgiving the tremendous effort achieved by so few for so many.

To err is human, to forgive divine.

  156. Bernie chung #176,

“I am indeed worried and nervous when I didn’t hear any applause after my singing.”

Members present were so much amazed at the fantastic transformation of you from not so good singer in a previous D&D Nite to a good singer; they forgot to give you any applause. The feed-back I received as the EO from some members was full of praise. Of course, there will be some members, still not happy with your fantastic transformation. You cannot please all the people all the time, is very apt

Please always remember Jeffrey Gan’s advice to you. Do not try to practice too many songs. Choose few songs and practice very hard with those songs on long-term basis. You will achieve what you want.

Thanks a lot for your constructive suggestions and feed-back.

Everything we do is a learning experience. I do not have much prior experience in organizing a big event with more than 140 members. Yes, organizing this event has been a learning experience for me.

The constructive suggestions and feed-back will not only help the future EO of D&D 2010 but it will also help me as committee member or helper in helping my EO to organise any event in future, if I am called upon.

Me as EO? Hm hm, hold on, for me, one is more than enough ha ha

Let me finish my comment with my own poem.

To get rid of headaches, EO has to take a lot of Panadol.
At the end of the Mega day, it is very difficult to please all

He cannot admire lady members as beautiful as Barbie Doll.
So tired that he cannot rock with sexy ladies in dancing hall

Better to accept the invitation if there will be any EO’s call
And try my best even if the duty allotted to me is very small

  157. Wow Francis
You are very fast to parrot my adage #200 -” YOU CANNOT PLEASE ALL THE PEOPLE ALL THE TIME, IS VERY APT.” in your post of #201. See you in court for unauthorised copying, Hahaha!
You really a good PR man and learn fast. You go with the smooth sail as the wind blows. Keep it up man ! You go a long way in the intricate experience of life.
    Thank you, sir.

  159. Hamidah, this video clip really captures your teaching and dancing very well. In future, remember to get someone to videoclip you with a simple digital camera.

And, my good old lost friend Ben, you and Catherine can really bump one another. Dont forget to see your own video, which Francis has put up.

    Terence seah

  160. Hi Terence

Tks, fyi I asked Joanne to help me video tape using my camera, cheap camera lah so not very sharp haha. I emailed to Catherine Yeo too telling her that she must watch my rock & roll video which I enjoyed watching her doing the hip bump with Ben.

    Hamidah

  161. Hi Terence # 210

Thanks for sharing your opinion about Hamidah’s videos.

I one more time, request the members, who had taken pictures and videos of the Mega Event to share with us the pics and videos, you are comfortable with.

Like you wrote, the video taken by Hamidah has brought to all SHC members the “bumping “technique, demonstrated by his good old-lost friend Ben.

BTW, hi Cat Yeo, did you have to apply Tiger Balm on that night, ha ha

My special request is about the video of Bachata dance performance given by best friend James Tan and his dancing partner Susan Tan. If anybody has taken the video, please do contact me by my email francisemail@yahoo.com. It will be the best help; I would be doing to my best friend if I can get this video.

    Francis

  162. Hi Hamidah #211

Thank you for your video. I had a good laugh myself because dancing out there and watching yourself on video are two completely different situations hahaha. Now I know where to shed the ‘kilos’ the next time I hit the gym. It was not easy having to come up with instantaneous choreography especially to a song from the start to the end and the hip bump came about because I ran out of ‘patterns’. Do you agree Ben? Hahaha

    Francis #210

Having enough cushioning on my bum helps dispense away with Tiger Balm. Luckily for me, Ben is a slim guy so I emerged from the dance unscathed. It was all for the fun of the evening and I must say – Thanks for the memories Francis and Hamidah!
