SHCian LIM TIAN SOO has generously agreed to give a $500/- cash donation to start the ball rolling.

Oi Cheng will be the appointed member assigned to take care of this cash donation drive.  Bank details of Oi Cheng as follows:

Name : Lum Oi Cheng

  4. Hi Geok Suan,

I would like to donate $100 towards the lunch you are preparing for the elderly poor. Hope there’s enough money to give each inmate a little hongbao. I’m sure it’ll bring a lot of cheer to them.

I’ve a CD of old Hokkien songs (including “tee or or” – Sky black black )that I think the old folk there would enjoy listening to. Can lend this Cd to you if you don’t have any cds of dialect songs.

    Cheers,

  5. Hello all SHCians,

Lee Patrick has graciously assisted me in doing up this Post so well. I would never have been able to get this out if not for him. Thanks Patrick.

I need HELP urgently to handle the donations and to keep the Donors’ Names and the amount indicated on the Post daily. Also, the names of the Helpers who are coming on the Visit.

I have phobia with computer work. Help Help.

    Thanks.

  7. Hello Dolly and Lily,

I take this opportunity to apologise for the mistake of saying that I was alone in this project.

Soon after this Visit was announced, I think early March, both of you quickly wrote in to say that you would join me in this Cannosian Alumni’s Mission Project.
Dolly, thank you for the correction.

It was because of your’s and Lily’s support that I plucked up courage to proceed with the arrangements for the Visit to St Joseph’s Home on 1st May 09.

    See you there on 1/5/09. 9.30am – 12.30pm.

  9. Geok Suan,

Helping others bring joy to ourselves. Please do not mention it.

Apart from having an uncanny way to write nonsense,
I am quite at lost in computer input too. So, you are blessed that SHCian Oi Cheng came to your rescue to update volunteers and Cash contributors.
I would be lost as how to do the addition names as it come along.

    No need to apologize.

Anyway, I regret not being able to commit as I have been assignment to be on ‘stand-by’ for company’s VIP visit that weekend. Should there be any change of plan and am able to free myself on that day, I will certainly let you know.

    Best regards
    Lily

  13. Hi Geok Suan

Is it a savings a/c? Will transfer the money over asap.

BTW, I am unable to be physically present at the Home on the day of the lunch to help out as I’m committed to another activity at that time slot.

Am sure the lunch party will be a great success…thanks to you and the team of SHC helpers.

    Cheers,

  14. Hello SHCians,

Please do not transfer any of your donation money into my A/C at any time.

Look out for Dolly’s instructions on this matter. She is trying to get Help to take charge of the donation money asap.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Geok Suan

  15. Hi Geok Suan,

I would like to contribute $100 to your function. I will make the transfer soon and keep you informed.

I am not sure of my availability on May 1st but will attend as a volunteer waiter on that day if I am free. I will keep you informed closer to the date.

Hope that is acceptable to you.

Good work on you part, especially in this part of the year when there are less functions for most institutions, unlike those nearer Christmas, New Year’s and also CNY.

It is a Cannossian Alumni project lead by me and I am not familiar with donated Money Matters and can’t explain to you well.

If you are OK with sending the Balance Sum to the Alumni from SHCians to the ST Joseph’s Home, then there is no need to contact the Alumni for further explaination.

    Geok Suan

    Thank you.

    Geok Suan

  22. Hi Geok Suan,
Let me ponder abt this after D&D. I dont wish to set any precedence to any exception. To me, charity donation is a very sensitive issue and since SHC is a non-profitable organisation and we do not wish to be plagued queries later on pertaining to this. C u at D&D and perhaps, we can discuss further on this ok… Dolly

  23. Hi Geok Suan,

My friend Jean Ong and I would like to volunteer in the St Joseph’s Home Visit as helpers on May 1st.

Kindly submit our names in your list of helpers. Thanks

  24. Hi Tan Seoh Wah,

Are you the lady who posted recently your profile, also name Susan Tan.

Welcome onboard!! So Susan Tan will be meeting Susan Tan.

    susan tan

  25. Hello Chan Christina, Jean Ong and Tan Seok Wah for volunteering your service.

If I have missed thanking any volunteer earlier, I would like to take this chance to say thanks to him/her now.

See you all at the SJ Home on 1/5/09 9.30am.

To Charles Chua and Boon Liang, thanks for your donation. We’d love to see you there if you have the time.

We are blessed to have a large pool of volunteers to serve, feed and entertain our senior residents at the StJoseph’s Home on 1st May 09. We also have musicians Patrick Chan on his Guitar and Lee Patrick on his Harmonica to sing along with us as well and if time permits, Jassmine Teo would like to share her CDs of Hokkien Songs with the Folks too. How nice? The dialect songs can be very humorous if I remember them to be so.

Many residents of the Home are lonely elders and would like a listening ear from us. Can we do this too? Yes, I am confident that we can excel in this.

    URGENT message!
1.Please note that the Volunteer Helpers’ Slot Is Closed wef 5/4/2009.

2.Donations (money) for this Project, “Visit to St Joseph’s Home”, will cease on the 21st April 2009. Please keep the money coming until cessation date.

    Thank you.

    Cheerio.

    Geok Suan.

  26. Lilian Chua, sorry that I missed you request to be a helper and wants to donate too and asked how to. If you go back to Charity and social activity thread, you’ll find the Cannossian Alumni…….with Oi Cheng’s posb A/C on it.

U may transfer by atm, e-transfer? or over the posb counter service. Then like everyone else inform Oi Cheng that you have done the transfer and from which bank.

    Thanks and see you there.

    Geok Suan.

  27. Hi Geok Suan,
As explained to you during the D&D nite. Pls let the Alumni know that in order not to complicate this donation issue, we still 1 2 to write a check payable to St Joseph Home stated that these donations are from SHC i/o to Alumni. We can pass this cheque to the Alumni to handle over to the Home. Hope this arrangement is acceptable to them. Pls get them to write to my email dlgummy@hotmail.com if they need further explanation. Dolly

  43. Hello Dolly and SHcians,

    Just sharing my observation.

From organising the Visit to SJHome, we (Dolly and I) have discovered besides generosity, hidden talents among our Helper-SHCians. Can sing dialect songs, blow the harmonica and play the guitar.

How about a SHC Idol….. next?
Susan Boyle is 57 and just being discovered in the singing world! If Susan can, anyone can! Quickly RE-search your hidden talent and use it when the opportunity arises.

    Geok Suan.

  44. Hello, hello SHCian-Helpers,

I am calling for Sam Goh, Pauline Chew and Anne Chua. If you are in Singapore, please confirm whether or not you are able to Visit SJHome on the 1st May 09, from 9.30am-12.30pm.

  46. Hello Geok Suan,

Mr Ronnie Sow who is a singer in my band would like to come and sing-along with us. He just joined SHC recently. Is that ok ? Thanks.

    Pat Chan

  47. Hi Geok Suan,

Btw, you can see Ronnie Sow in the current banner picture (above)with his unmistakable silverhaired tresses and looking very much like Gurmeet Singh.

Ha ha, so he is a true blue ‘Silver’ Hairs Club member.

    Cheers.

    Pat Chan

  48. Hi All,
We had finalised all volunteers’ list and will be communicated thru’ emails from now onwards.

Steven/Ronnie, pls take note of this.

  49. Hi All,
Both Geok Suan and me would like 2 thank our SHC members (NellyS, RonnieS, PatrickC, ThomasL, WeeChin, JenniferL, MariaT, JuneL, Chris ChanWH, Susan TanWH, JeanO, JaneT. CharlesC) for the helps given in ths event.

PatC and RonnieS had given their promises to entertain these folks with numerous songs with many of our very SHC lady members to hum along with them. I can felt that most of these folks had enjoyed this tremendously as it is not often that they hv visitors/volunteers 2 see them. So guys and gals, give ourselves 3 cheers for a job well done… Hip hip hurray…

The $1000 donation rec’d from SHC members had been used as follows:
    $800 for residents’ lunch
$100 for volunters’ and other misc expenses
$100 Hv donated this money to SJH

The $1000 was handed to Sister Mary in the presence of Geok Suan as witness.

Hence, shoud you need clarification on the above expenditure, pls get back 2 me asap. After 3weeks, these receipts will be destroyed.

    Best regards.
    Dolly

  50. For info pls..earlier today, whilst having lunch with a group of nuns and old girls at the Home, this is the feedback I got….every 1 May, there is a group of volunteers, mainly old girls who go to the Home to help out feeding the residents etc. Usually a quiet affair. But this year, it wss so different. It was fun, noisy and very spontaneous!!!

Wow, what positive feedback!! I felt so proud to be part of the SHC group!

Yes, all the SHC members who were there this morning (esp the guy with the guitar:-))), give yourselves a pat on the back!!!

Personally, I think only a small no. of the old and sick folks really enjoyed themselves this morning. But I definitely know that the nursing staff and most of the nuns were enjoying themselves. At least we brought cheer to some!!!!…:-))).

    Good nite:-))

  51. Dear SHCians,

Dolly had quickly given her A/C of our day’s event: Visit to St Joseph’s Home earlier so as not to keep you all waiting for news of our 1st May’s event. Thanks Dolly.

We had a great time with the Residents, enjoying Thomas’ Chinese songs followed by Patrick’s magic strumming on his Guitar. Ronnie sang his heart out to the Elders supported by our very own SHCian singers. It was simply about 45mins of non-stop music and songs for all present. How beautiful! The atmosphere was that of a great celebration. That was what it was meant to be and we achieved it.

Dolly, our live-wire, was doing the rock n roll etc on her part with Thomas alt Jean to amuse the elders. I spied Maria accompanying the singers on Ronnie’s Drum(hidden
behind the group). It was a very happy experience for all.

There were 2 other Groups of volunteers and together we made up to about 40 Helpers. Those elders who needed to be fed their pureed lunch didn’t have to wait for long before each had a volunteer to help him/her – one on one.

Feedback from all other volunteers and Nuns was that the SHCians did a very good job.
In fact one Sister (nun) noted that it is a good idea to have a few groups come together like today to help out because there were more Helpers. Today’s volunteers were from SHC, Cannosian Alumni and a neighbourhood Catholic Church group = 40. Most times, the volunteers came in small groups of 10+ people.

SHC’s donation amounted to $1000.00 and it was just enough to meet the cost of the Lunch – $900.00 leaving a small sum of $100.00 cash donation to the Home. Sr Mary Yong I/C Food and Beverage SJHome received it in Cash (a request from Sr Mary Yong thru Cannosian Alumni) from Dolly our SHClub Manager.

Incidently, this Visit to St Joseph’s Home marks Dolly’s 1st
official duty as SHC Manager. Congratulations from all of us. We are very priviledged to be working with you, Dolly.

I take this opportunity to thank all our SHCian-Helpers ( Dolly,Jennifer, Lilian, Wee Chin, Thomas, Jean, Christina, Maria, Susan, Charles Chua, Nelly, Patrick Chan and Ronnie). Donors ( Lim Tian Soo, Dolly, Jennifer Lim, Jessmine Teo,Charles Chua,Boon Liang, and Lee Peng peng). Helpers’names are from my list of volunteers who registered at the Home this morning. If I have missed out on anyone, please excuse me and let me know.Lee Patrick, you are remembered for helping me start-up this Cannosian Alumni Mission Project thread.

Because of YOUR support, the Event was a great success. 3 cheers for us. Hip.. HipHip.. Hurray.

    Regards,

    GeokSuan.

  52. Hi Geok Suan, Yeap, u hv missed out Jane Tan whom had turned up last mins as she is unable to register.

Hi June, while only a small # of SJH residents enjoyed this event but honestly, even they 1 2 oso wu sin bo liak lor as almost everyone are on wheelchairs lor. But at least, we had 2 resident supporters which had entertain us with some songs. 1 of this resident, I was told was previously a singing teacher leh.. Being May 1, I guessed that most of them were expecting at least some family members will visit them lor but cant see much of them got visitors leh.. But 1 for sure, some of them were reli enjoyed their meals which I can felt by look of their faces.

Overall, is a day well spent for all of us.. Dolly
