  6. Hi to All,

This just serves to confirm that the 14 participants include Lena Ho (not Lina Tan) who will be in Sam’s car and Pearl Goh who will be in my car in Aljunied MRT.

Please pay to our Treasurer, Pauline Chew as she intends to change the proceeds to M$. Due to the large proceeds collected and the VVIP personnel involved, we will be making additional security arrangements like guards, walkie-talkie comms, report lines, axis codes etc and other confidential security matters.

The others on the waitlist will be subject to the availability of the 4th car. Can Ron Wie or Ron Lee oblige?
    Many thanks.

    Hi Janet Loo @ #5,
We won’t be going to M’cca this trip, perhaps the next time.
    Thanks for your offer.

    Cheers to all,

  8. Wow! Just realized I’ve been appointed an Asst. CFO!

Would definitely be nicer if the next surprise is I’ve an inheritance but dreaming only lah!

My definition of a Treasurer is one who pays out money when its due but a CFO will do so only when a payment is justified and fully accountable for. So, not so easy to get money from the CFO and Asst. CFO, urgh. Any regrets in the appointments?

Pauline, will be happy to assist.

  9. Hi Abel

I don’t really recall reading a detailed plan of yours for Batu Pahat. Am assuming that the itinerary comprises some activity/ies that you would like to share with us. Please do let us know so we can have a consensus and cover as much as we can because Batu Pahat is a new travel destination for many of us.

    dAISY

  10. My wife and I will drive. Dolly Lim will be in our car and we will be able to take on another passenger.
    We’ll leave the allocation CTO.
We live at Pasir Panjang and the nearest MRT Station is Harbour Front.

  11. Hi Daisy

The itinerary is in accordance with the details listed in
the post as revised by Sam Goh which in my opinion is interesting. Now, let us all hope there will be no poor weather on 22nd/23rd, to disrupt our intended plans.

Before the opening up of the North-South Highway 1987/88, nearly all Sporean travellers to Malacca, do stop at Batu Pahat for half-hour breaks because it is already a 3hr non-stop drive from Woodlands. Most Sporeans preferred BPahat rather than the preceeding Ayer Hitam which is one hour away due to the latter’s “cramness & unhygenicness”.

Rene, Thanks for the highlight on my email, clever girl, you got it right.

  17. Dolly #20, The pangsai teh will not only slim him down, but slim his intestines too! And have to wear diapers also. Then he will be called Skinny Goh, not Sam Goh…joking hor! Don’t get angry. He won’t know what TLS mean, you must translate.
Rene Leong shd be the correct spelling, not Rena. I only kaypoh here.

  18. Hi All again,

    Apologies for this correction.

We have 4 cars to carry only 18 passengers. As follows

    PKong’s car, Sam Goh’s car, C Chua’s car R Kee’s car
Paul Kong Sam Goh, Charles Richard Kee
Peggy Kong Marge Tian Abel Tan Mrs R Kee
Jane Loh Lena Ho Terence Seah Dolly Lim
Sally Tan Pauline Chew Rene Leong Pearl Goh
    Daisy Yeo
    Neo SC

Therefore there are only 18 people and we need 9 rooms, 2 doubles for Paul Kong and wife and Richard Kee and wife.
Another 2 twin bedded rooms for the batangs, Terence, Abel, Sam and Charles.
And another 5 twin rooms for the ladies, Jane and Sally, Marge and Pauline Chew, Lena and Pearl, Daisy and Rene, and Dolly and Sock Cheng.

I hope this confirms everything correctly. For those who want to change the pickup point, please contact the driver and make the necessary coordination.

For those who want to sleep with a particular partner, please make the necessary amicable arrangements and inform Paul Kong.

Please accept my apologies for the mistakes and confusion, I have to visit the doctor for 1st stage dementia. Please pray for my early recovery, otherwise I may forget to be present on the 22nd, or is it 23rd Jun?

The mistake about Eddie Foo is totally mine as I thot Richard Kee was Eddie. I don’t know why I made that mistake. Even now.

I think that all the pickup points are as requested by all except for Pearl Goh, so I have arbitrarily put her in Richard’s car. I am sure we can manage to pick her from any of the mrt stops mentioned and meet in JB and change places in the car.

    Cheers to ALL

  19. Hi Sorry but it’s me again as I have to re-do the car arrmt. It did not appear like that wen I was typing. Here goes.

Paul Kong’s car-P Kong, Peggy Kong, Jane Loh and Sally Tan.

Sam Goh’s car-Sam Goh, Marge Tian, Lena Ho and Pauline Chew.

Charles Chua’s car- C Chua, Terence S, Abel Tan, Daisy Yeo, Neo Sock Cheng and Rene Leong.

Richard Kee’s car- R Kee, Mrs R Kee, Dolly Lim and Pearl Goh.

    Hope that is satisfactory.

  20. @ #14:

    Hi Abel,

Just to let you know, i believe the itinerary was set up by Paul Kong and not me.

    Cheers
    @ #13:

    Hi Richard,

Sorry to kaypoh, but from SG to JB shell petrol kiosk i am quite familiar. Do you want to meet up i take the lead ?

    Cheers
    @ #18/19:

Aiyah! TLS!(TLS is tua lao sai right?) abt the slim tee, i bought one in the medical hall. very effective until my ka neng ah!

  21. Hi Sam

Thanks for the clarification. Sorry Paul, I just got mixed up with yours and Sam’s names, as you were the one who was doing the briefing.

Just a notification to consider that my take is not to travel in “close” convoy ie., our cars tailing each one closely. It is my suggestion that there’ll be a forty metres “break” between the 2nd lead-car and the following 3rd car which together with the 4th car are acting as “vigilante eyes”.

My experience in driving through Malaysia, particularly the NS Highway is after 30-35mins, the lead car will “rest” on the road-shoulder and then a minute or two later tailed the last car and this interchangeability continued as long as we are on the highway.

With due respect, my above summary is just a precautionery tale.

    Regards

    Abel

  22. Hi Daisy,
Did you get a copy of the itinerary? e-mail me if you wants one. Batu Pahat is a small town orginating from Textile Industries till recently into electronic. Just obtain City Status 3 years ago. Population 300,000 inclusive of Yong Peng (20 km away) and Muar (50 km away). Mainly Chinese community.
There are 3 main shopping Malls, namly Pacific Mall, Summit Parade and Carefour with Shopper one beside.
If you like climbing, there is Bukit Perdana with tall trees like our Bt Timah hill. The concrete 1,700 steps take you to the top of the hill overlooking the whole of BP.
There sre on airport, railway and sea port connection.
Transport is mainly by taxi or bus. Cannot flag a taxi, so you have to call stn which is also at the bus terminal.
The only spare time we have is after checking into Katerina Hotel til Dinner. I have included to view live giant fish (1 meter long) at Seringtin which is 15km away by the sea side. On the way back is the place (Minyek Beku) for our dinner (6 km away from town). Let me know if there are any specific in mind, maybe I can accomadate. One option to mind is, if we can leave Katerina early namly at 4pm, can squeeze shopping for local popular cookies before viewing fish. This will cover the city tour as the shop is in Jln Rahmat. (Orchard Rd of BP)

    Hi Abel,
    Tks for the caution#26
    Drivers take note.

    Hi Richard,#27
Good idea to meet. Drivers are you free on 19 Tuesday or 21 Thursday evening for 20 mins meeting?.
Place: Mc Donald beside Bedok Bus Interchange.
    Time: 7.30pm
    Let me know which day.

    Hi Charles and Pauline,
Can we accomadated the last participant with car?
Can he/she include those on waiting list?
On my end, hotel accomadation no problem.
    Will await your final number.

  23. Hi Charles and Paul

I leave it to both of you. There are 3 on the waitlist and they are :

    Waitlist

    TQ… Pauline

  24. Hi to All,

I think the registration is closed.
Batu Pahat is only 2 hours away and it is easy to organise another trip but I think a convoy of 4 cars is sufficient for our first trip to BP.

I look forward to the next trip tho’.

    Thanks, thanks.

    Hi Paul
Yes, I’ve gotten the copy of the itinerary you’ve sent and thanks, thanks too.

    Hi Pauline
With Abel’s caution at #26, the Asst. CFO is happy to confine her role to passing the calculator to the CFO when she needs it and to watching the CFO’s back whenever she makes a payment. Ha ha ha….

Didn’t realize I’m in for an adventurous weekend. U guys going to place a couple of baseball bats in the car? Suggests an exchange of mobile numbers amongst the passengers of the different cars too?

    Hi Sam
The fish soup stall @Blk 58 should be at the hawker center
not in a coffee shop. There are three fish soup stalls there. Don’t know which was featured but hope you get the right one. One is closed in the evenings.

If you like mee goreng, go for it too.

  38. Hi Sam Bin Ah Pui,

What’s c/a? You learning to write like Dolly ah? Well, your red wine was good, full-bodied, makes your head spin after a few sips in that hot afternoon! But, I drank it with pieces of cork floating in my plastic cup.

You see, Terence spent a good 15 mins. removing the cork, bit by bit, perspiration trickling down and me wiping his forehead. The cork was dry and brittle. How many years did you keep that bottle standing up, ah? Anyway, still so kind of you to give us that bottle. Pity you did not come to the picnic cos we had so much food left. Nor brought your favourite chicken wings and mee rebus.

You should join us cycling and walking if you are free. Cos after those activities we go makan.

  39. Hi Pauline

You have been a great secretarial help for this trip. Will hand over my share of $50 on Friday as on the 12th, my pocket contain less than $30.

Let us all pray for fair weather on 22nd/23rd.

    Regards

    Abel Tan

  40. Hi Abel

Tks for the compliment. As agreed by Charles and with the consensus of most in this group, you are exempted from paying the S$50. If you insist then shall obliged.

    Total collection = 12 pax (Abel included) x S$50 x (2.40) + M$240 = M$1680. This is based on exchange rate of 1 S$ = M$2.40. Hope can get a better rate in 1 to 2 days time.

The M$1680 is for dinner steam boat with Chili crab at Minyat Beku. + Lunch at Fatty Heng Rest at Kempas and hotel stay at Katrina. Balance (if any) will be for Coffee/tea at Toast Box – Bread Talk and/or buy outak and distribute to all (drivers inclusive) on the way back.

    Hi Paul
How is the hotel rate like?

    Hi All
Yes lets pray for fine weather on 22 & 23 May. Any objections/suggestions??.

    TQ ……Pauline

    Terence Seah

  43. Hi Pauline,
Hotel reservation confrimed at 130 ringgits per room with breakfast. Owner have extended complimentary to my room. Will brief details to you on Friday.
    Tks – Paul

  44. There was mention somewhere that the polis are on the roads looking out for illegal CDs in cars etc. Over lunch I asked a colleague living in Johor who has a brother at Bt Aman. He said it’s more likely an isolated case of some over-zealous officers working overtime and he didnt think it’s a directive came right down from the IGP. However, he did warn of smuggling.

Some years back, I used to send cockroaches, frustrated with the harshness of living in squeaky clean spore, north where food was aplenty, nite clubs were many, co-existence with the human kind was easy and best, with a large population there, size meant might and might meant clout and good bargaining power.

I do no more now as this could happen with so many roadblocks.

At a roadblock, polis stop car and check its passengers.

Polis : (Lifting the floormat and a few cockroaches run out) What are these?

    You : Cockroaches lor………..

Polis : Show me their passports.

You : Cockroaches…..where got passport? Yr country issues passports to insects meh? (you think you hv out-smarted him, and you break into Gerald-the-Thing laughter kekekekeke……).

Polis : If you’re not smuggling them in, then why were they hiding under and covered by yr floormat? Why werent they seated next to you and be seen? You’re booked for smuggling in illegals.

Ffwd and you change yr reply when asked what they were.

You : Cockroaches…..Msian cockroaches, see, all hibiscus pattern, no orchid pattern.

Polis : We are charging you for kidnapping.

    You : But they’re my friends……..

Polis : Call them back if they’re yr friends. You hv 5 minutes, starting now………

So, do be very careful that you check and recheck your car, not whether there’s any CD but whether there’re cockroaches………….

  52. Dear Friends

All participants would agree that we had a wonderful Batu Pahat trip, with full-credit to Paul Kong for leading us on a well-planned/executed itinerary, in particular the series of “sedap makan” stopovers we had throughout.

Commendation is also due to, besides Charles Chua and Sam Goh, the two other co-lead drivers, Elder Richard Kee in whose car I was a passenger, for being a admirably true-grit 78-YEAR OLD driver-traveller. In addition, this fun-filled trip was continually live-wired by Sam Goh, Terence Seah, Dolly and Sock Cheng, who was our group’s official camera-woman.

Tentatively now, another such cars-convoy trip is in the books and probably this time we shall GO EAST, perhaps on a longer trip to Kuantan, Pahang. Just wathc out for the post in the next couple of weeks.

  54. To Abel and Paul, thanks for organsiing the trip for us and we all had a great time eating, sightseeing etc. Food was d company were and communication via the walkie talkies were so fun.

Many thanks to the 4 drivers who drove us safely to Batu Pahat and home. Personal thanks for Charles for sending us home individually with out heavy shopping loads. Sam aka Ah Huat kamsia for the lulian fix hor.

I am still working on the photos sooooo will take a while hor…have 400+ photos to go through and edit.

  55. Sockie

If everyone can post the photo in “photo-bucket” , Oi Cheng will lost her job la (haha)

I love those sunset & Sunrise photo – is so beauitful .

WHen u come my house next Sunday – teach me how to load the photo in photo-bucket ok. Thanks

    karen

  56. Karen, photobucket is a freeware la.. so we dun noe when they will decide 2 discontinue this kind of freeware n tese photos stored thre will disappeared lor.. but for SHC, d software is brought by Terence nad registered hence there is no worry dat these photos will be lost in transit lor.. So u c, OiCheng’s job very secure la.. hehehehe.. Dolly

  57. Hi All

A word 2 those members who stores data n photo on free web spaces. As Dolly had pointed out, free things dont last forever n hosting parties also need 2 pay 4 maintenance. The most impt thing is make hard copies on media in case they disappear one day.

  58. Karen #70, Dolly #71, Yew Kwong #72

Karen, I am not trying to make Oi Cheng ‘jobless’ lah ……. was trying to save space for SHC and also Oi Cheng was away and I got no time to meet her to pass the photos to her.

Dolly & Yew Kwong, thanks for your advice. I used photobucket to share photos with friends but do not depend on it for permanent storage. Still keeping all my raw files and edited ones in my pc and back up disk also. I forsee one day I will have to pay for some kind of online storage facilities….anyone got suggestion on good and reliable one?

When I see Oi Cheng I will still pass her all the photos I have taken and she can decide which ones to put up in SHC website……. guess she will be very busy liao

    Sockie

  59. Calling SamG,

I have a tray in Singapore where I put in everything from my pocket, and have not sorted them out. This morning, I found that I have all the 4D lottery tickets that we have bought during our trip back from Batu Pahat. How come, nobody remembered, or we have already won or lost.

How to check? Sockie is waiting to buy a new camera. Peggy waiting to have her new hairdo. Richard and Jane waiting to go back to meet that guy at the traffic junction. Sally just can’t wait to go back to the Karaoke. And, Lena would love to go back to the durian stall. Rene and me would want to sit at the back of Paul’s car again.

So, anyone know we win or not?

    Terence Seah

  60. Terence #74

Charles would chase us out of his car next time not because we have eaten durians but you tell the world you prefer Paul’s car. kekeke!

I am still waiting to go back to collect my $$$!

  61. yes yes coming 2 help terence #74

  63. Hi all in the Batu Pahat group,

Someone in the group did ask me about meeting Dato Au (owner of Katerina Hotel). Was unable because of health problem. Passed away on 11th June 2009, today (16th June 2009) Strait Times Page B11 (obituries).

    I lost a friend.

    Paul

  64. Hi Batu Pahat travellers,

I was reading Paul Kong’s mthy update, and realised I had not update you on the results of the toto we bought.

Sorry guys and gals, we did not win anything. Remember, we were hoping to come back again to touch the giant fishes and come back to stay in the hotel. Maybe, we need Sam’s good wishes again.

    Terence Seah
