  1. Hi Charles
Thank you for organising the walk. I am interested, but since I am a ‘mountain tortoise’ I cannot figure out where we are supposed to meet. It would be great if you can tell us the road in which the bus stop is located and also its relation to other roads or landmarks.
Next also tell us what are the buses that ply along this road. It will also help if we know what buses ply along the ending point.
    Regards King Seng

  2. Sorry. King Seng, just click the link below , then type “macritchie” in the location box and select the option ” Thomson Road-Macritchie Reservoir (B51071)”.
The meeting point is identified with a marker shown in Map.
To choose the bus from embarkation point to meeting point, please do the same under the bus route section.

Every time I open a post, the left side of the post is partially obstructed by the “Shortcuts” and “Pages” sections on the left of the page.

Take for example, the post on the monthly walks. I can’t read the first few letters of every line.
I wonder if there are any others with the same problem? I never had this problem previously.

I was told that the problem was with the layout of the website. Can anything be done about it?

    Please help.

    Thanks.

  4. Hi Mary
The problem is due to setting in your internet explorer. There are 2 ways 2 solve it –
    1) In Internet Explorer, go 2 menu bar > View > Text Size > Change it 2 medium or smaller OR
    2) Go 2 Desktop > Right Click > Properties > Settings > Screen Resolution > Change it to lower resolution (that is smaller number)

Some times ago another member hd same issue but ws solved as per 1).

  5. Hi Yew Kwong. Thanks a bundle!
My new laptop is smaller than the previous one and I had set the font size to “largest”. Now, it’s ok.
    Thank you again.
What a “mountain tortoise” I am. Hee hee.

  6. Hee King Seng.
Borrow only mah. Well, one more added. Ok, make me a “hill tortoise” then. Still translated as “suah koo” haha.

  7. Help! again.
This “hill tortoise” doesn’t know how to get to the ‘spot’ marked on the map in the Macritchie Park. I’m coming from Pasir Ris.
Can anyone help please? If it’s too difficult, then I will have to wait till the next walk at Pasir Ris itself.
If M doesn’t come to the mountain, then the mountain must come to M, hee hee.
Thousand apologies for being cheeky, EO’s.

  8. Hi Mary Chan,

    ( Help! again.???? )
This “hill tortoise” doesn’t know how to get to the ’spot’ marked on the map in the Macritchie Park. I’m coming from Pasir Ris.) Can anyone help please?

Looks like Mary is in distress (SOS), OK.
The easiest way is to take MRT from Pasir Ris and stop at Clementi Stn. As you come out of the Clementi MRT exit gate , turn left and walk along the pedestrian bridge and then down the stairs to the bus stop.

Wait for bus 52.Goes DIRECT to the EXACT spot where Charles wanted all of you to alight. Also there is a bus info digital board to tell you when the bus is arriving.Evey 10-15mins intervals.

Bring along an umbrella otherwise the HARSH UV rays will damage your tender “snow white” skin complexion and become chow tar. Also mosquito repellant to prevent the BLOOD THIRSTY mosquitoes to SUCK off your sweet tasting blood.
    Ha ! ha!

Thousand apologies for being cheeky, Mary.

  9. Hi Mary

I think they already moved the mountain 2 M ages ago. If u cant remember let me help u 2 recall. It’s “Marymount”. Rite!

  10. Steven Chan
I may be a “hill tortoise” but I think the directions you gave me is a very long route.

I know enough to stop at Cityhall and change to the NS line, but I’m lost as to which mrt station to stop at after that and how to get from there to the park.

Does anyone know if there is a straight bus from Pasir Ris or Tampines to Macritchie?

  11. Hi Mary,

You can take the train to Bugis station, cross Victoria Street and look out for the bus stop opposite Parco Bugis Junction. Take bus 130 and it will go to Macritchie Park.
Stop when you see Mt. Alvenia Hospital and the overhead bridge.

  12. Steven@10..
U very susah lah…bring poor MaryC go your merry-go-round trip!..

  27. Hi Charles Wee,

Sorry for last minute registrn and confirm can definitely can come to join all of you in this board walk.

    Weather Forecast for Singapore from 6AM 13-06-2009 till 6PM 13-06-2009 ( today)

Showers with thunder over southern and eastern Singapore in the early morning and over northern and eastern Singapore in the late afternoon.

CENTRAL area Mac Ritchie Reservoir seems to have a fine weather. Other parts of Spore are raining heavily and that helps to cool down the temp and so Mc Ritchie I believe will have an IDEAL temp for walking this afternoon.
    Looking 4 w to c all of u.
    Steven Chan

  28. Hi Tim Liu n others,

  30. Hi Yew Kwong / Dolly ,

Why is my comment #42 on weather forcast useful for most of us to know being moderated when it has NOT breach any SHC rules

NO Sex , MLM or politics etc…………. ?

  31. Hi Steven n All,
So long as there is a link to any website other than SHC website, it will be automatically put in2 moderation rate. Normally, members will not notice this as Admin will defintitely to proof read n release immediately. But in this case, as YewKwong is currently not in SG n hv no access to computer rite now, so the release to this will be abit delayed. Will try to see what can be done for ur comments.. OK.. Dolly

  32. Hi Charles,

Thanks for organising this very COOL Refreshing Boardwalk today at Mc Ritchie Res. and everyone of us enjoyed the walk and chit chat a lot untill the monkeys ” beh ta han” and cmme down from their resting place becos we were making TOO much noise.

It seems you are V.GOOD at predicting FINE weather for today.

How abt predicting the Futures market as well.
We may either end up as a BILLIONAIRE instead of a
MILLION HAIR or worse still NO HAIR ? ha! ha! :)

  33. Charles Wee and Christina CL
Today’s Macritchie walk was very nice. Mother nature was kind to us. It was neither hot nor wet in spite of the distant rumbles and occasional gusts of wind. Of course the humidity was unavoidable and I was already sweating even as we started out and was totally drenched in perspiration at the end of the walk.
The boardwalk was enjoyable and we learnt a few names of trees and shrubs besides discovering what the ‘petai’ tree looked like, from a distance and that chestnuts grew on a tree, not from the chest, haha (kidding)
There were some curious monkeys which came down and I wondered who were more curious, the monkeys or their cousins, haha.
It was fortunate that there wasn’t any rain, otherwise the last 1.8km would have been slippery and harder to negotiate as it was covered with loose stones and damp leaves.
Nonetheless, the whole experience was fun and pretty relaxing.
Thanks again and I look forward to more of the same kind.

  34. Hi Charles,

Could not find what I wanted after searching from one end to the other end and back along the long stratch of Balestier Rd.

Guess it took more time than I taught.
Whenever,I had more time, I will explore further.

    Thanks for yr info anyway.
