  1. Hi YK

Good for you but errrh errh afraid to go unless its kisses for gals and hugs for guys otherwise I have to give this a big miss :)

  2. Hi Yew Kwong

Did not know about this Carnival and that it started in ’07 and has become an annual event! That’s the trouble when one is far away from home. I think it is a good event for young seniors/seniors. Thanks for sharing.

As for kisses for the guys………..nice. Fashionable or not. I can feel Tim’s wrath.

  3. “As for kisses for the guys………..nice. Fashionable or not. I can feel Tim’s wrath”.

    Wrath? Hardly.

Like it or not, I cant avoid the kisses on my neck & face from this guy each time I lie on the couch at “home”. Pushing him away only makes him more excited, persistent and there’s no fending him off since he uses all his 4 limbs to hold me down.

If you hv a heart, Geralding do pls come to take him away………….he doesnt kiss gals.

  4. Greetings Yew Kwong

What a pity the “Father n Son Look alike Contest” closed yesterday, do u know if they accept walk in on Sunday?

    thanks

  5. Hi Freda

The one n only that u wld not hv miss. If the need arises, bring along a basket 2 collect more n share them wif your frenz. I guess instant ones are still the best.

  6. Hi Guys

For those members who hd been 2 this Carnival, m sure u hd made many discoveries abt active ageing. Cycling is one of the many activities that promotes active ageing.

For those interested in dancing but missed, there ws a line dance jamming session at the Fountain of Wealth followed by the Disco Nite.

The 2 days’ carnival hd attracted many seniors n also jr seniors 2 the varius booths. Businesses were pretty gd. I also met some SHC members there.

  7. Hi YK,

Were you there on Sat, or had gone for yr monthly cycling
trip? Too bad I brought a pretty girl for you to hug but
couldn’t find you in any of the 5 booths, haha.

  8. Hi James

There is always another time. I believe u hd not visited all the 6 stations except for station #3 where the stage performance took place wif singing of hits from the 50 n 60’s. The senior female performaners were pretty n the guys were handsome.

Anyway thanks 4 the gesture. Save it 4 next time lor.

I was there at the Active Aging Carnival. Where were you? Didn’t see you leh. Got tired after 3 booths and gave up.
Why did they have to spread it all out? From what I gathered, many people got discouraged and didn’t complete all 6 of them.

So disappointing. Was hoping to catch sight of you kissing a guy, hahaha.

There were 6 stations altogether. I ws stationed at one of the booths at Galleria Foyer which ws Station #2, main entrance after coming from Bras Basah Road into Temasek
    Boulevard.

The stretch ws 2 far 4 the many who hd difficulty walking. I didnt manage 2 catch glimpses of Stations 4 to 6.

Perhaps u hd missed me bcos I ws dressed in cycling gear. The booth where I ws stationed ws also partially blocked from main view by bigger booths.

Anyway I shall KIV the hugs 4 u till I see u next time.

  11. Hi Yew Kwong,
I was at the carnival with Lynn on the 20th morning and was amazed at the enthusiasm and the energy of the many senior citizens who were there to participate in the walk. They came in busloads from CCs and Senior Clubs from all parts of the island. We were swamped by them.

Anyhow, we managed to visit most of the stations, yours included but decided to skip those at the fountain for obvious reasons.

I managed to “win” some prizes (a towel, a pen set) just by answering some trival questions.

We stood and watched the bevy of ladies strumming their ukulele and singing. I am seriously considering playing the instrument.

  12. Hi Amy

Glad I saw u at my Cycling booth n 2 know that u hd a fruitful visit 2 this Carnival.

Pls come n join us at our SHC monthly cycling which falls on 3rd Sat of the month.

  13. “This Carnival since 2007 encourages active ageing lifestyle among seniors……The senior female performaners were pretty n the guys were handsome.” Dont we see a danger (or fun) lurking?.

The seniors, an euphemism for ah peks and ah umms (and Ah Nee??) love to be assure that they are still their pretty and suave selves. And so they have been told and so still very much in season. Go interact, socialise and free their basic instincts. Let their hair down, shirts down, pants down but spirit up. Net result? More business for the KK Hospital and the statistician has a bigger number to report, hehe.

“I managed to “win” some prizes (a towel, a pen set) just by answering some trival questions”.

Ok, it was trivial to you but for many with lower IQ, they were made to believe that they are very clever, and this feel-good for seniors is priceless esp when the prize is really nothing.

As was pointed out, the seniors went to the carnival in bus-loads. Tackling an ageing population is one hot potato few quite know what to do.

Put them on a Scroll of Honour (for having ciontributed to a booming red dot) and then maintain maintain these Who’s Who under social welfare? That will dig a hole which will only be dug deeper and deeper as more age and their expectations & demands begin to rise.

So, perhaps a better alternative is to tell them that they are still young, active, pretty, handsome and so they can do a lot more themselves, for themselves, maintain themselves.

In this recession, there’s much of a pain to feel (bcos most are numb to the pain by now after the furious inflation late 2007-early 2008). Hawker food prices have not risen lately. Neither have they dropped but srill affordable to many seniors (not by choice but by living thru it thru the initial shock and so now got used to it).

The pain will come when the economy recovers. Big earners who had, in nation-wide publicity, exemplified by volunteering pay-cuts of 20%….40%, certainly deserve to recoup for their sacrifices made which, they will tell you (perhaps less loudly this time), have helped turn the economy around.

Then, the wealth gap (read also, purchasing power) will widen……more excruciatingly painful for seniors who have no income; worse, if they had already spent all their savings. It will then dawn on the oldies that no matter how much a goodie, pretty/handsome, plying & selling their good (goof?)looks wont buy more than half a hamburger.

They can still go up and dance on the Fountain of Wealth but that’s as claose to wealth as they can be. Active ageing will take a bitter meaning……age faster so that one gets to cross the finishing line quickly, hopefully return if one’s so fated, as a tortoise to enjoy longevity and a vegetarian no-killing-for-food life protected in a home one carries onthe back for which no rental or property tax is payable.
