Another flea market and garage sale, before the year ends ?

There I go again.  Still enjoying my hospitalisation leave, and the mind is again drifting and dreaming.  We had a reasonably successful flea market some time last year.  At the time, we had about 12 tables, in town, on a weekend afternoon, attended by SHC members and passer-bys.

Thinking about it again, I was hoping we can do so again.  As usual, I dont have a place in mind, the date, the time or even how we should go about it.  However, I am hoping for a few options to surface.

1.  Someone who has a large enough place and who is prepared to open almost the whole day for interested members to display and sell their items.  Members would jaga their own items, and remove any unsold items at the end of the day.  No commercial items.

2.  Someone who knows an organisation prepared to let us use the compound for a day.

Do email me if you can assist in locating 1 or 2.

And, although we have not found a place yet or the cost or the date, please indicate your interest if you have something/s to sell; something you dont want to use, have more than enough at home.  Preference or priority will be given to members on a first come basis.

  1. Hello Terence,

Count me in as a participant.

Meanwhile, what do you think of this idea: holding a ‘garage sale’ in our own flat/house. For me,I’m mulling over the idea of holding a ‘permanent garage sale’ once a month at my flat, selling 2nd hand, branded clothes. Now am thinking how to publicize the garage sale…hmm

Ok, wait for good news from your end…

  2. Hi Terence,

Excellent idea to get rid of all our “rubbish” from our homes at the end of year.

Anyone who wants to sell an old Pentium IV computer with dual core Pentium chip with at least 19″ LCD Viewsonic/Samsung screen both in working conditions or selling a replica of antique French table lamp that looks like mini chandeliers or a 2nd. hand bicycle helmet. pls. contact sfc0007@yahoo.com.sg

Esp the replica antique table French designed lamp, went to whole of Spore couldn’t find it. :(

  3. Hi Jassmine,

I like your suggestion. My concern is whether your place can accommodate SHCians moving around your flat, visit your garden and will other flea sellers be able to park their stuff and sell from your place too.

If not, I guess even if you have a garage sale at your place, we can come over on an appointed day. In this case, give it a try.

  4. Hi Terence,
Usually in a home garage sale, only the home-owner’s belongings are on sale.

We can adapt the home garage sale idea to suit our purpose. Eg we can list the things we are interested in selling and their sale prices in the SHC forum. Members indicate their interest thru e-mail, etc. and a date is set for interested buyers to go to the home to view the sale items. This is one way to overcome overcrowding issue.

    cheers,

P.S. Am still mulling over my ‘permanent’, once-a-month garage sale idea.

  5. For the likely Flea mart, Dan Huang has proposed the Safra Mount Faber. In all likelihood, Dan will make this event happen. Let’s wait for more details.

Meantime, I am still looking for more venues for SHC own flea marts. If you know of possible locations, along the lines posted, please share with me.

  6. Flea markets are great places for SilverHairs to meet. Also an opportunity to make a few bucks for the weekly marketing. So, cannot give up this idea, even though we have held a few flea marts before.

I woke up 4.30 am this morning, and drove to Melville Plaza, at Fremantle. Mary (Perth) and my wife had packed the back of the car with stuffs to sell, range from table cloth, used children toys, dinosaur posters to curry leaves, bags, some ornamental jewellery and used wire cables.

Got into one of many car park lots, reverse our car, and put the items out nicely on display. No trees, reasonably hot and sold very well all the items for 50 cents to 20 dollars.

Crowds come as early as 5am. So tired and busy, had to squeeze in minutes for the toilet and a sandwich.

A great place indeed for SilverHairs to meet, with members of the public browsing our items. There must be at least 100 cars, pickups and vans. Another wish that we can do same in Singapore.
