  1. Hi Rosalind, Dan,

Finally, I got myself a Halloween suit – a black gown, a black spider hat, a ghoul face mask and a someone’s body bones. Got also some Halloween decor for my stall. Get yourself a homemade mask, the uglier the better.

For the Flea mart, definitely going to have used condoms for sale, some used underwears, a number of used book, one of the best pain relief ointment, used by boxers, from Thailand and some nick nacks. And, maybe coming all the way from Perth, we will have some small jars of delicious kam kuat marmalade for sale.

Dan and Joy have worked very hard to get this flea mart. I hope Flea marts can be a regular activity, and that SHCians can take this event as an opportunity to meet and know more SilverHairsClub friends. So crack your head, relax, take a table, put your skills on the table and see SHCians and members of SAFRA streaming to your table.

  2. Wow Terence,

You have lot of goodies to peddle. Halloween Night is a new experience for most of us. Come fella member, let’s make the most of it!. Think of something different to wear, like what Terence said, the scarier the better. We may not have another opportunity!

We really appreciate Nina Choo, though she could not come to the gathering have sponsored the membership booth. Members who have intention to introduce your friend to SHC may take this occassion to invite them here for our events. At the membership booth, a pc will be set up to explain the concept of Silverhairs Club and get them to join on the spot. Joy and Boon Liang is helping out and we need more helpers to come forward.

The Registration Desk will be man by Joy, helpers are needed!

  3. Thank you Terence for your note #1 about the Kum Kuat marmalade.
Yes, I can bring some Kam Kuat (KK) marmalade from Perth to sell at the flea market.

About the KK marmalade (my sales pitch..hehe) :The KK are organic and only the fully ripe fruits are selected for use. The marmalade is hygienically processed and packed into air-tight tubs of 380gms (nett) each. The ingredients are KK, sugar and water only.
The pectin is extracted from the seeds. There is no artificial colouring or preservatives added. With the high content of the fruit, the marmalade is more in the nature of a conserve. The KK conserve can be eaten as a spread on toasted bread or as a dip (once diluted) for meat etc. It is very yummy.

I am bringing a few tubs only (a dozen perhaps) owing to constraint on flight. The space needed for displaying the tubs, is roughly 30cm X 15cm only and so I am looking for space from other vendors on a shared cost basis.
Is anyone able to offer me space to display the KK tubs for sale?
    HC

  4. hi Dan!

How are you? I take my hat off to you and Joy for organizing this flea mart cum monthly gathering event. Wow – it is really impressive! Good job! well done!

I wanted very much to attend this monthly gathering, as well as put up a stall at the flea mart. But timing is just not right! Why? I have been running around like a headless chicken preparing for my move from Gillman Heights to my new home. I’m scheduled for the big move on 1st and 2nd Nov. Soooo 31 Oct is my busiest and final day to “PACK AND PACK AND PACK”. Fact is- I do have a lot a lot of clothes, accessories, and misc items, (such as facial steamer, unused, still in its original box”, to sell at give-away, almost free prices. So I really wanted to take a stall at the flea mart. But I simply cannot find the time to sit at “my stall” for a few hours on 31st Oct… sigh, such a missed opportunity!

OK. enough whining… I wish you and Joy lots of happiness. Enjoy your great day on the 31st Oct. I look forward to see you and Joy at some future SHC event! All the best.

  5. Hi Jacqueline Han,

Dun worry, you can still book a stall, we will help you to lelong your items. Put a price down, and let us do the rest. I can come by to collect all the things you need to clear since I am living close by.

I am sure we can get a few able-bodied guys to come by and help you man the stall, how dat?

And thanks for the good wishes, we really need it!

    Danz4Joy!

  6. Hi Dan, Joy & Terence,
I would have liked to participate in the Flea mart, but unfortunately circumstances are not conducive.
I may come in for a few hours to browse and maybe help in the membership booth, so please register me.
By the way, Hou Chong, is it possible to reserve a tub of the KK marmalade??
    Thanks and regards…Jie

  7. Thanks Jie for helping out at the membership booth. We certainly need as much help as we can get!

There’s so many things to do, I counted more than a 7-in-1 day of fun and enjoyment!

One more item left out, from 9.00pm to midnight the Dance Floor at Safra is waiting for those who want to boogie away the night. Any takers? (Sorry could not add on the main post, it getting moody and won’t help me!)

  8. Hi Terence @# 1

I have a black spider hat too except that the spider has retired. I was wondering whether to use it in broad daylight – afraid the real ghouls might get confused and come out to chit-chat with me! Now that you have ghoulish items at your stall, I guess it’s quite safe for me to use the hat! LOL :)

    Cheers,

  9. #1 Dan and Joy have worked very hard to get this flea mart. I hope Flea marts can be a regular activity, and that SHCians can take this event as an opportunity to meet and know more SilverHairsClub friends. So crack your head, relax, take a table, put your skills on the table and see SHCians and members of SAFRA streaming to your table.

Yes, indeed, Terence is very right! This is one of the ways not only an opportunity to know and meet more SilverHairs Club friends either new or old and it is also an opportunity to co-operate and help one another during the whole process, and its a way to get rid of “white elephants”that have been in your store room, I applaud Dan for offering Jacqueline help when she is unable to spend her time to sit at her stall and even to collect her stuff for her, very good of you, Dan! Keep it up!

I wanted to take up a stall, too to get rid of my stuff but gave up at the end as I do not drive, can’t bring the stuff there of course, my place is too far from Farrer…………..

Any way, I wish all SilverHairs Club friends enjoy the events!!!

  10. Hi Nancy Major Tan,

No place in Singapore is too far, just holler perhaps a gallant knight in shining armor will rise to the occasion to help you!

    Come and take part lah!

I wish to thank Nina Choo, besides sponsoring the membership booth is also sponsoring two banners for the Flea Mart . Thanks again Nina, it does help to ease some burdens!

    Danz4Joy!

  11. Hi Dan! Please rectify the items I’ll be selling in your list. I’m not selling cowboy stuff lah. I have an assortment of items I’ll be putting up for sale, mostly good-as-new or unused barang barang at lelong price.

I’ve also paid my 2 tables to you at Eileen’s place.

    Thanks
    Ros

  12. Hi Danz,

The laptop bag is no longer available. I’ll be at the venue a little late, about 1.45p.m. Appreciate all your efforts to see this ‘mega’ event through :)

    Cheers,

  13. Hi Rosalind

Yes, thanks for the payment. I am unable to update “Paid” against your name or the items you are selling because the edit feature is not working. Have informed Yew Kwong, but it looks like there is no solution yet.

    Dan

  14. Hi Jassmine

Wow! The lappy bag has been sold even before the flea mart. However, I will not be able to remove that from the list for now because I can’t edit the post.

    Dan

  15. Hi Dan! (#5)

It’s so nice of you to offer your help. I appreciate it very much. But, I should not impose upon your time, and your kindness… I worry that you already have so much to do on that day… I think I’ll just chuck everything into boxes and bring them to a charitable org. Really… I appreciate your offer to help. Thank you again.

Enjoy your great day on 31st Oct. My warm regards to Joy.
I look forward to see you both at some future SHC event.

  16. Hou Chong,

I like the taste of the marmalade, especially the shredded peel spread on the bread. So please reserve 1 bottle of KK marmalade for me also. Thanks.

    Ah Nee

  17. Hi Dan!

It’s quite weird! I almost missed reading your “new comment” to me, as it is not shown in this thread! BUT when I log on to “latest comments”, there it was, your “new comment” (together with others “latest comments”):

You have suggested a “business proposition”. You have kindly offered to help me to sell my barang2, then we split 30-70. This is really interesting. In fact, I can give you 40%! Can we discuss this off-the-forum? Please email jacqhan@gmail.com

As you have also mentioned that your share of the “sales proceeds” will go toward defraying the cost of this SHC gathering, I’d like to help in any way I can…. Let’s discuss this. Thank you.

  18. Hi Danz,
    It seems the table size has shrunk – from 3’by 3′ to 4’by 2′. I hope we don’t end up with a 3′ by 2′ :(

From the activity schedule it seems to me the MJ players don’t have the time to browse at the flea mart. Kesian…so near and yet so far. Hope MJ players give themselves a game break and come and look-see.

A suggestion to help defray the cost of rental – pay to sing in Karaoke :)

    Cheers,

  19. Hi Jassmine,

No lah, Safra only provide 10 tables of 4×2 feet, on hire is 20 more tables of which 10pcs is 3×3 feet and 10pcs 4×2 feet. There you got a choice of either. On hire will be another 60 chairs.

Good idea! Those who want to sing may contribute $1 for 2 songs. Come, come and sing the blues away, have fun and enjoyment and helping a good cause will you?

Hi Lor Si Leng, hope you have a pleasant trip with Willy, and do remember to bring back goodies for the bazaar!

    Dan & Joy

  20. Hi Hou Chong,

I’m next on the queue for a bottle of your ‘natural & fresh’ marmalade. Appreciate if you can reserve one for me too.

As regards to the display of your other stocks with very little space required on Oct 31st, I’ve contacted an extremely kind member who’s glad to share his booth with you. A separate email being sent to your mailbox.

    Cheers!

  21. Hi “White Elephant” / others,

I am searching for an old Italian or Spanish design table lamp with a lamp shade and its stand has some figurines of “trumpeting” angels or babies. Its height is about 1.5 ft or approx 40 cm in height. Wood or porcelain is fine.

If you had something similar to this, pls. let me know.
    Thanks.

  23. Hi Joy, Dan,

Sounds like you have planned a whole day of events. Very brave of you to coin up such a big event. Would you be able to provide the number of the table? I am hoping to make sure my unused condoms are placed on the right table.

I would like to take an additional one floor space for the dating service. Hope the other SAFRA members who come to our Flea mart would be keen to join the dating service.

For SHCians who are still considering if Flea marts can be an exciting and workable event, especially when one retires or has some free time, do monitor the event. Your feedback would be useful. We would be on the lookout for improvement ideas. Hopefully, SHC members can run a large Flea mart stall at some of the established malls, under a single umbrella, on a regular basis. Keep your thoughts running to make the Blue Helmet project works.

    Terence Seah

  24. Hi Terence,

We have about 30 tables available, so far about 20 tables taken up. Still got 10 tables left. One table will be for the dating service. We have also hire some chairs and table for the gathering.

Fot those who do not find the time to join, we have a ‘business proposation’ where we look after your goods and retain a percentage to help defray some cost, sure to be a win-win situation.

Seem like you have some ‘marmalade flavoured’ condoms on display, those who are curious may just drop by and check it out, ha ha ha!

  26. Ah Nee, Caroline Gee, Susan Chan and Norlinda
Thank you Ah Nee, Caroline, Susan and Norlinda for your kind support. One tub will reserved for each of you accordingly.

BTW, the price of the KK marmalade is $? per tub (asked).
You wont regret it, it is a rare treat – this marmalade is yummy and you won’t find it in the stores. Kumquat is sweet on the rind (skin) and sour and salty within. These flavours are transposed to the marmalade giving it a beautiful blend. I have only 4 tubs left.

    Norlinda –
kalau makan KK marmalade mesti kuat dan sexy tahu.

    Dan Huang
May I have a table (3’ x 3’ preferred ) to display my Kumquat (KK) marmalade pls. ? Can I pay you on 31 Oct 09 itself ?

Susan Chan and Boon Liang (the extremely kind member)
    #26
SC: Very grateful for your help – many thanks. As there are still table available, I have decided to take one for myself. Other vendors needing extra space are welcomed to use my tablet (FOC)because I only need a corner and there is also a likelihood that my marmalade would have been completed sold by then.
BL: Your generous offer is much appreciated. May I come back to you should I fail to secure my own table. Looking forward to coming to your stall on 31 Oct., everyone can use a Gift Mug – sounds like a good slogan too.

    Terence
You are selling marmalade product also – marmalade flavoured condoms – very original haha. Shall we do a joint promotion ? – “buy one, get the other one free”, then we will surely corner all the “bed and breakfast” customers ..hehe
    HC

  27. Wow HouCheng,

  28. Hi Hou Chong,

One table reserved for you, thanks for the support. This products of your seems very hot selling. What will happen to those who come to the Flea Mart and there’s no stock, can you replenish, there is still time? Since you are not in Singapore yet, you may pay on the day itself.

Now we have KK marmalade and ‘marmalade flavoured’ condoms, sure to be a sell-out, keep this date free!

Karen, thanks for booking a stall. We will try to lelong your goods if you cannot wake up on time.

We want to welcome Jason Quek who have intention to take a stall. He specialise in personalising cotton & polo tees with freehand air-brushing technique (on the spot).

  30. Hi Dolly, #33
Ai sai and kum siah 4 ur support.
    I reserved 1 4 U ah.

    Hi Dan, #34
SHC flea market is in its infancy and we appreciate that it will need lots of support from members. It is encouraging to see that a good number of members have come forward so far and there is a good mix of products on offer at the mart. We can appreciate that there must have been lots of hard work in the background other than what we see on this forum. My personal thanks to You & Joy for your efforts in organising this event and it is my hope as a vendor, that the Flea Mart can be a regular feature on SHC calendar of activites.

The Flea market is a useful place for hobbyist to find an outlet for his/her crafts and to share ideas. Eg. members on SHC gardening group can consider selling potted plants in this mart and others can take this opportunity to meet and exchange ideas on gardening.
It would be nice too if someone will come forward to offer to play his music at the mart – the more amateurish, the better – it will add to the “week-ender” atmosphere.
    HC

  31. Hi all,

The Flea market is getting HOT UP.
As Terence is selling his “marmalade laced” condoms,
I too would like to “SPICE” it up.

To join in the JOY and FUN as 2nd.time Flea Market salesman,
I have finally decided to sell only 8 limited edition of “FLASHY” and V.”SEXY” underwears that reveal your BEAUTIFUL bodily contours .

100% Guaranteed “FLASHY” and V.”SEXY” underwears or money back.

I do NOT need 1 table but I need a TINY space of 6″ by 6″ to display the undergarments.

Who is kind to spare me that little space for FREE ?

    Thanks and awaiting your response.

  32. Hi Sam Huat Huat, #35

I like bed and breakfast everything. You are welcomed to sell your spicy undergarments on my table but I am just wondering 6” X 6” for 8 pcs. So 1 pc is (6X6)”/8 .. you selling strings or what?..hehe.
    #38
I have only 2 tubs of KK marmalade left so I will put them aside for you. Thank you for your patronage. I will see if there is any weight allowance left to squeeze in some more when I finally pack my bag.
    HC

  33. Hi Hou Chong

This morning I met Nor & Ah Nee and they told me they have ordered your KKM & ask me ai mai. Just log in to read..wow, your KKM selling like hot cake…..sob, sob, no more for me huh??….can squeeze in 1 bottle for me if you still have space? If not, I will wait for next round. :(

  34. Hi Hou Chong,

Looks like you have to display yourself on your Flea mart tabletop, if you have no KK marmalade for sale.

We are all experiencing what it is like to have a Flea mart of our own. Dan & Joy have started it, and we can have our feedback, at the end of this event. Some will be successful, while some can learn from others.

    Terence Seah

  35. Aiyo…Suzchang…so v kesian u too late oredi..shud hv ordered for you too..:(

  37. Hi Mr Ah Huat,

Okie, okie I poh mia for yoo and Dolly, kam sia kam sia for sam kar lah!

Thanks Hou Chong for your understanding and moral support. Yes, there are so many things to do or sell at Flea mart. We are open to new ideas and suggestions. Someone did suggest having ‘buskers’ around, it will be good if we have takers. Anyway, music will be played througout. I will lug along my home theatre set and with Terence’s two wireless mikes we are going to make a lot of noise and enjoying ourselves!

Steven Chan I like your idea of selling ‘flashy and sexy’ undergarments, btw, for guy or gal? Ha, ha your secret is out, now we know you are a collector of such item!

Thanks again for all those signing up to take a stall. I am thinking of what or how to liven up the ambience here at the mart. We will have two banners up, one to direct traffic to the hall and the other will be at the membership booth. The banners size is 3×2 feet and cost only $14 each. Anyone like to use banner too, let me know. We are open to ideas about putting up posters or balloons or decorations, helps in these areas needed! I will be bringing my color printer for those wanting to print in colors your sale or pricing tags!

    Danz4Joy

  38. Yes, Dan, we will b there, pls include Lily also but not sure wat time we can b there. But promise that we will b there as early as possible to participate in all events except mahjong lor..

  39. Hi Dan

Please include me in your SHC Gathering/Flea Mart.

One of my colleagues lives in Telok Blangah and she said I could go to her home to bathe and change before going for the wedding dinner Yay!!! :)

    Thanks

    Cheers
    Caroline Gee

  40. Hi Danz,
I suppose it’s a no brainer that the 3’by 3′ tables go to the early birds, right? Just to confirm, these ten tables also come with a table cloth each and two chairs?

Regarding the singing with your home theatre set and mic – I think the singers will need to bring their song books to refer to the lyrics unless they have elephant memory. Anyway, they can buy an English songbook from my stall if they need the lyrics….lol…just joking. What I want to say is you could charge $1 for singing two songs and also open it to the public. I think this will be one of the most popular stalls, coz everybody loves to sing.

    Cheers,

  41. Hi Dolly, Lily, Caroline,

Thanks for coming to support the Flea mart and the gathering, let’s have a rousy times! Dolly, most of our hands are full manning our stores and others, your assistance at the registration desk is sorely needed.

Jassmine, what your preference? 3×3 or 4×2 feet tables. Safra provides only 10 4×2 feet with table clothes and 20 chairs. I can choose to hire either sizes.

I am bringing my home theatre with a 22 inch LCD Tv, hope it big enough! Anyone know where I can loan an overhead projector and screen? $1 for two songs, so be it!

    Danz4Joy!

  42. Jassmine,

Yes, a table with 2 chair provided for the flea Mart.

An apppeal for Mahjong players, the room we booked come with 4 mahjong tables. So far we are using 3 tables, one more available for those who want to learn, Freddie has kindly consented to coach. Come and make use of this opportunity. It also help us as whether we use 3 tables or less we have to pay for the booking of the room!

    Dan & Joy

  43. Dan Huang
I will be at the flea mart and meeting, but am not sure what time though.
I might come earlier but may have to leave for a while and return later for the meeting, but I will be there.

  45. Hi All SHCians,

I will be supporting the Flea Mart by selling limited edition hand made accessories. Jewellery design is a hobby I picked up and I have spent many fruitful and enjoyable hours on this. My creations are done using mostly swarovski crystals, semi precious stones and quality glass and seed beads. My designs are limited editions and often unique pieces. So you will hardly find another person wearing a similar design as you :). The Flea Mart comes at just the right time for some pre-festive shopping for yourself, your friends and loved ones. So please come to support the Flea Mart on 31 Oct and bring home some unique gifts! I hope to meet and make many new friends too.

  46. Hi Danz @# 50,
    I’ll take the 3′ by 3′ unless there’s 3′ by 4′. LOL!

Re. the singing – If your home theatre set has Karaoke function, don’t forget to bring your Karaoke VCDs. You might need more K discs for a wider selection for interested visitors. I can bring 2-3 K vcds of Chinese evergreens.

I also feel there’s no need to incur further cost by loaning a projector and screen …kesian if you are in the red after the event!

    Cheers :)

  47. Hi Mary Chan,

Hope you can join in the fun!

Evelyn Chong, indeed a unique trade that would appeal to the young and old. I am certain it will attract a lot of curious folks to make a worthwhile trip here at the Flea Mart.

Sockie, thanks for booking a stall and I feel it okay to let your assistants attend to it. Deeply appreciates that you are helping with the photo taking. We need to capture some precious memories that are happening here! My hands are full, therefore I am afraid not able to help you to man your stall!

    Dan & Joy

  48. Hi Suzhang #41
Last week, Lina asked me to set aside 1 tub for you and so yours has been reserved. Thank you for your support. They did go like hot cakes, took me by surprise too.

    Hi Susan Tan #43
Sorry, all the 12 tubs of marmalade which I planned to bring, are completely sold. However, I will contact you if I am able to bring in additional tubs next week.
Ps: next batch will be coming at the end of Nov.

    Hi Jonathan #52
Will certainly try. Thanks for your encouragement.

  51. Hi Sam,

What time you likely to come down to the Flea mart. I need help in setting up the tables arrangement at 1.00pm and allocating the stalls to those who have booked. Help also needed to set up the karoeke set and the membership booth where my laptop will be in use.

So happen I have a handover at an apartment in the east at 11.00am and I hope to rush back by 12.00pm.

Joy and Boon Liang will be there too to help.

Terence, will you also bring the two big banners on that day?

    Danz4Joy!

  52. Thanks so much, Sam and Dolly for your help otherwise I pengsan! Got to lug so many things, what with Jacqueline’s and Karen’s and Lydia’s barang2. My home theatre set, laptop and two LCD monitors.

Anyway, I still need to be at Safra at 9.00am to receive the extra tables and chairs. The badminton players and the mahjong kakis will be there too.

    Danz4Joy

  53. Hi SHCians,

I enjoyed reading your posts and can sense all the excitement, especially among the “regulars” :). Am so looking forward to joining in the FUN on 31 Oct.
Dan – Can I request a 4′ by 2′ table with table cloth and I get two chairs too? Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!

  54. Hi Evelyn,

No problem with the table and chairs.
Safra will provide 10 units 4×2 feet tables with table clothes, on hire is 20 units more of 3×3 feet tables. Some of you have to bring along your own table clothes. One more week to go, here we come!

    Dan & Joy

  55. Er Dan ah, I recalled you saying that the FIRST 10 persons who booked a table gets a table with the table cloth. How are you allocating your tables ah? Understooded mah. Those who registered with you early will expect their tables to have table cloths…Better state it here who gets what hor. Arbo on that day sure you know I know….

  56. Hi Lor Si Leng,

Yes, as in the list the first 10 who sign up get the tables of 4×2 feet with table clothes. The rest will need to provide their own.

So Evelyn, I will get someone to switch a 3×3 feet table since you ask for a 4×2 feet table can?

See you folks on that day!

    Dan & Joy

  57. Hi Danz @# 65

Are there three ‘vendor-less’ stalls under your wing? Kesian. I’ve some friends coming to visit the flea mart – they’ll be happy to keep an eye on these stalls for you. Ai mai?

Regarding the free tablecloth – It’s for the 4′ by 2′ and not the 3′ by 3′? Can I ask for one even though my table is 3′ by 3′?

    Cheers :)

  58. Hi Jassmine,

I certainly need all the help I can get, thank you belly much! Yes, the table cloth come with the table but if you fit it on there will be expose area if you dun mind.

Marilyn, yes yes we certainly can do with extra help at the membership booth, thank for the kind offer!

    Danz4Joy!

  59. Hi Dan

Thanks. Got your message about getting someone to exchange for a 4’x2’table for me. Just need to confirm with you that it comes with table cloth? I also like to get my sis and nephew to help jaga my little stall. Cos I’d like to look around and make friends too!

  60. The Flea mart is coming, lelong, lelong!

Here are some good stuff at belly cheap price, dun miss, set a date to come to Safra Mount Faber this coming Saturday!!

What do I mean by “cheap” and “almost free”? For example –
    Clothes like blouses and pants/skirts:
    Evening wear – long gowns:
    Office jackets
    Handbags
    Mugs with covers
    Travel hot flasks
    Travel tote bag
Facial steamer – still in the box, never used.
    Aromatherapy diffuser
    Batik sarong scarf
    Bali quilt
    Etc etc etc
All must go and still belly negotiable lah!!!

    Danz4Joy!

  61. Hi Dan,

I can be at SAFRA before 1pm. Do let me know if I need to prepare anything beforehand. Am just wondering if it will be a good idea to give out door gifts.

    Marilyn

  62. Hi Marilyn,

It certainly a very good idea! Thing is what kind of door gift and whether it suitable for the occasion. You mean just for those who inquire about Silverhairs Club or?

There is nothing much to prepare except to give a rundown on what SHC all about. I am setting up my laptop with a 19 inch LCD monitor for you to give a presentation, how dat?

    Dan & Joy

  63. hi Dan! Just to reconfirm with you. Are non-SHC members (family members or personal friends) allowed to help out at the tables? I know the tables can only be bought by members but how flexible are you on us relying on external help?

This is just an idea. I was thinking of donating all my unsold stuff to a charity of SHC’s choice. It’s a hassle to drag bags of goods back home again. What say you?

    Cheers
    Ros (still in Dallas lah)

  64. Hi Lor Si Leng,

Our Flea Mart right now may not sustain by itself on strictly SHCians participation. As in the last two Flea marts we had, it was in a public places and therefore traffic from the public are most welcome to patronise our stalls. The bazaar at Safra is no different, we depend on Safra members and their families to drop by. I do not see any conflict here to have family members and friend to help out at the stalls. The same will not apply for our monthly meeting which are strictly for members.

While it is good to just donate all your stuff to charity and not waste time going to and fro, I think the thing to bear in mind here is on what Terence mentioned before on this post. He said that this may be an opportunity for members who are retired to look into the possibility of sustaining a business and generating an income to keep us going.

Your fears is what will happened to the unsold goods? It will be a matter of pricing here whether you are able to clear all the stuff.

Bear in mind that an event of this nature do incur some expenses. We encouraged members to come forward to participate not just to meet the cost involved but allowed members to foster a closer bind with each other and also getting a lot of fun and achievement in the process!

    Dan & Joy

  65. Hi Dan & Marilyn,
Aldoe, door gift is a good idea for membership recruitment but I dont think it is wise to implement this, not so much of how much d door gift will cost but since SHC is free club wif no membership fees being charged, we shd not encourage this to set precedence. I m sure dat Terence will 1 tese participants sign as member just 4 d sake of free frisbe n den MIA. The recruitment here shd b target at tose sincere public (abv 45yrs) 2 join our activity after Oct 31’09.

Terence/YewKwong, your comments on this. Thanks.. Dolly

  66. Hi Marilyn,

Perhap you could do some clarification here. What kind of door gift are you giving away? Should it be given after the presentation or before?

Your kind gesture is much appreciated here but we still have to cope with misconception!

    Thanks Dolly for the concern.

    Dan & Joy

  67. Hi Dan,

I can understand Dolly’s concerns over door gifts and certainly does not want to raise any controversies. The issue is therefore shelved.

    Marilyn

  68. Hi Marilyn,

Aiyoh so sad, no free gift for me! Perhaps you could bring a sample on that day and see whether it can be use for other ocassion?

Afer inspecting it, can I keep it as a momento? I am serious lah!

    Dan

  69. Hi Dan,

Sorry, but I do not have any sample of any gifts to give away at this moment. It was more the thought that crossed my mind – was thinking of something that could be useful for the many outdoor activites organised by SHC; such as caps, foldable fans, water bottles, and the like.

    Another time, perhaps?

  70. Danz#75,

Wow! You certainly have a lot to lelong and at v good prices

  71. Hi James,

No advertising was permitted, just wonder if for the mart’s sake will Terence let us get away with that! Can’t help you here, maybe I may have sneak in by the back door when no one looking!

    Danz4Joy!

  72. Hi All

U can list all your items here but w/o price tags to share with members what participating members at the flea market are offering.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Hi James

    Thanks for your alert.

    YK

  73. HouChong..
Since your table is so empty without marmalade (sold out even b4 reach here!) perhaps i can decorate with some
items from Bali,BBK & Chiangmai?…beaded batik casual jalan2 bags, satin slippers,’mata kucing’ bangles,shawls..only few things..mostly brand new!..just found them during my weekend spring cleaning under my bed!
    shall we be partner?

  74. Hi Sockie,

It does sound like your family is on clearance sale. Kakakkaa.

    Cute Nor,

Love this – ‘since your table is so empty without marmalade’. Can’t stop laughing……..

  75. Geraldine

Yes you can sleep tight, I am going to grow my hair any longer than what I ahve now…in fact it’s due for a cut soon…….but maybe for this Halloween I may take the unique offer from the warm lady kekekek.

On the family clearance hor…if price is good hor I can throw into a buy 2 get 2 offer…my niece and my mum and if it very irresistable neh can throw in one more….guess who hahahahaha

    Sockie

  76. Hi Nor,
You are certainly welcome to decorate my table with Bali BKK & Chiangmai casual wears, foot wears etc side by side with Steven Chan’s display of underwears oops, I mean body wears..hehe.
You may also be my table Partner – so Partner, is it possible for you to hand out the KK Marmalade on my behalf ? I would like to leave early for home to tidur, if possible.
    Terima Kasih.
    HC

  77. Sweet Nor,

Remember what Terence mentioned about Hou Chong having to display himself on the table since his marmalade are sold out? Now that HC would like to leave early, it means you have to display yourself……….need help? Kakakaka.

Since Steven is also sharing the same table, I suppose our handsome man can help out in displaying? Kekekkeee. If I were in town, would certainly support this event and don’t mind ‘displaying’; HC’s table has to be next to Terence.

  78. Hi Hou Chong,

    I love your “creative” jingle.

(Not to worry, brother after all your KK and KY marmalades have been sold ; HC you do NOT have to display yourself prominently on the table Oops! in jock straps.Hee ! hee! :)

I can be yr table partner as well .I had only 1 kind of items for sale ie. limited stock of jockstraps and shd be no problem keeping an eye over yr left over marmalades for those who have ordered but did not turn up at the last min for valid reasons.

And so you can go home earlier to kau kau chee after a 5hr tiring flight from Perth. OK ?

Norlinda, rest assured you can still focus on yr Bali, BKK, Chiangmai merchandise sales and I won’t “kar chau” you.

  79. Hi Danz ,

    Special Request” :-

Pls. arrange the 2 tables side by side manned by
( Karen n Eileen ) and ( Hou Chong ) so that I can keep an “eye” for both tables simultaneously.

I had promised both of them to be there by 1 pm.sharp.

Thanks and looking forward this EXCITING event. :)

  80. HouChong@94

Trima kaseh for being so kind..tetapi, remember I asked AhNee to bring home my marmalade@31?..its bcos I wont be around this weekend, itu pasal saya tak boleh jaga your stall la..apa macam?..sori..hoping to tompang only..hehe

  82. Hi Steven Chan,

Noted your request, thanks for your help. More helpers needed to scratch each other’s back. This may be the beginning of more Flea Mart to come!

Reminder! All tables come with table cloth.

Three more days to go to the Flea Mart!

    Danz4Joy

  83. Hi Norlinda,

    1) lelong my barang2 boleh tak?..nanti saya blanja makan2 mahu tak?..

No problem. Looks like I had to do some multi-tasking here.
    Tak payah belanja makan2.

Tolong saya ; awak mesti label lu barang2 dan setuju harga nya.

Ini macham saya tak akan “kepala pusing” to jual atau tidak.

    2) Thanks Danz for yr acknowledgement.

  84. Hi Dan,

I would like to take up one table to sell assortment
jewellery and maybe sambal achar (still looking for nice
bottles). A relative will be helping me to man the sale.
Let me know if there is still table available.
    Thanks,
    Constance

  85. Hi Danz

Daisy had kindly offered to help look after Karen and my ‘store’ also and if it’s not too mcuh of a trouble then can I request for my table to be near to Stephen Chan (#99) cuz he had requested for Karen’s table to be next to his and since Daisy is helping Karen and me, it would be more convenient to have all our tables next to each other.

If this is too much of a hassle then I shall leave it to you to do what’s best. I understand your problem if everyone has their special requests to meet, so if you say NO I will not hold it against you, just have to wake up early and go there and chope the place and hopefully find a corner to snooze for a while lor kekekekek

    Sockie

  86. Hi Constance, Thomas, Marg,

A table with table cloth reserved for all of you, see you on Saturday.
Betty Ho has upgraded from floor to table space!

Sockie, we are like a family and we shall work together. Joy is making the arrangement to glue us together! Sorry, your sister and nephew not for sale, she is pulling a fast one.

Dan and Joy is taking care of Jacqueline’s and Lydia’s and Karen’s barang2 and Boonliang and Karen, Sockie and Frisna, Hou Chong and Nor shall scratch each other backs, so nice! Steven Chan and Daisy will apply the ointment! Sockie, make sure you have enough sleep before coming over, you are in good hands! If anyone needed to rest, a tent will be set up. We charge $1 for an hour sleep!

Joy, Boon Liang, Jie and Marilyn helping at the membership booth with Dan who is needing help at the karoeke booth, $1 for 2 songs, it’s a deal!

    Danz4Joy!

  87. Alamak Ah Dan ah, just when Geraldine want to chope, you say my sis n nephew not for sale sigh….thought I could sell for a belly good price to cover my cost and pack up and go take the photos for the event. So now got to tong the whole day to try and sell some real stuff liao.

Will take you up on the $1 per sleep offer if and when I need it. I think hor there will be more than 1 person who need the sleep….unless no one stay up with me till 6am at H@@h@ on Friday night ;0( ;0(

Just a list of some of the stuff I will be bringing to the flea mart

    1) children books
    2) lady cowboy boots – 5 to 6 pairs …maybe….still have not sort them out yet
    3) old jeans – can’t imagine how much I have put on since sigh, if cannot sell think I better go loose lots of weight
    4) a couple of violins – since Sam has no use of these for the orphanage, I sell them lor…Jasmine we still can barter if there is mutual interests
    5) polo tie – just 2 only
    6) Crystal hat bands – nearly lost my eyesight threading them 100’s of crystals and not selling cheap hor kekekek
    7) more stuff if I can cart them to the venue

Think I may need more then 1 car, so if I cannot load them all in I will not bring all ……would be so much easier if I can peddle human beings, they can walk there by themselves kekekekek

    Sockie

  88. Ahyoh Sockie

    I’m seeing stars!

I have offered you part-time help and you have offered me space if I ever need it and Frisna has offered me space and I had offered part-time help to her likewise.

Really see no relation in my part-time help to you and your table being close to Karen’s and Steven’s. Hope your sister and nephew will still be there to collect the takings for your barang barangs.

    Dan
Ointment may only work on the itch temporarily but good enough I think. What about getting to the root of the cause? Will spraying hydrocloric acid on the fleas work you think? Ha ha ha…. the evil me at 1:18am in the morning! Of course joking only guys! He he he…. It’s Hal?low?een!

  89. Hi Danz @ 46 ,

Aiyah! The comments comes fast and furious. Almost miss yr comment.

No. I am not a collector of such item! I was from a friend’s friend who was working temporarily in the shop and it was a one time clearance sale. And so I tot why not spice up the flea market event by selling something more “daring” and unusual.

I believe most Sporeans are still quite conservative when putting on these sporty wears that gives shape to your “beautiful” torso and that explains why his boss prefers to have a clearance sale in spite of the big loss to him when they are still brand new and fresh.

    Guys or for gals ?
Ok I will keep all of you guessing but definitely not an item to miss buying at such reasonable cheap price that will never be repeated.

  90. Thanks Steven for helping us to spice up the Flea Mart with your sexy sporty wears!

Peng Peng, glad you can join us, the karoeke waiting for you.

The Mahjong Room comes with 4 tables, we are still short of kakis and learners. Come and support lah, pay $1,50 per hour in air-conditioned comfort and not $2.00, how dat?

    Cheers,

    Dan & Joy

  91. Hi Nor,
Apa macham? Saya nak tidor di rumah. Now you want to be my sleeping partner? What will our customers think? Ada barang tapi tak ada orang? Tak boleh ini macham! I will be at my store to hand out the KKM afterall. May have to leave Steven C &/or Sam G to help with ‘under the bed barang2.’ Remember to belanja them, ok?.

    Hi Sam,
Confirmed you are the very very very nice guy. Got gf and so many things to take care of and still offer your help. Kum Siah Kum Siah again. I will not trouble you as far as possible.

    Hi Steven,
What have we got ourselves into? Starting from 1 tub of marmalade now we have to display ourselves on table top wearing skimpy under-garment and dance for all to view on youtube. Geraldine is also watching from HK. On the other hand, you may have a chance to be picked by Star Search, hor. If that happens, there will be lots of people coming to future SHC Flea Mkt, just to see you in the brief.
    HC

  92. Hi Danz @# 106,
Don’t forget to bring some chinese Karaoke vcds (if u have them) besides your English discs. What kind of help do u need in K? I can help you collect money……………lol!
Do bring along plenty of $1 coins for change as I foresee many enthusiastic warblers would pay with $2 notes.

    Hi sockie @# 107,
Come to my stall and see if there’s anything that interests you or your nephew(violins belong to him, right?). I can also offer skills/services for the exchange. Btw, what price are you giving to the violins?

    Cheers :)

  93. Hi Jassmine,

Yes, I do have Chinese, Hokkien Karoeke cds. May be a good idea those who are keen to croon may bring their own cds. Great if you can collect money! Will bring along more $1 coins.

Let’s have a merry making time and lots of fun time as when we were much younger, how dat?

    Danz4Joy!

  94. Hi Danz
Thanks for organising the events at the SAFRA Mount Faber.
I will join in the bowling session for an hour, that is I will leave at 10.00 p.m.

  95. Hi Hou Chong @ 113,

Dancing on table top in skimpy under-garment to sell our wares.

Choi! Choi! Choi! That sounds more like a private Hen’s Club, perhaps maybe happening in Perth and customers stuffing big fat Aussie notes in yr underwear. Ha ! ha ! :)

  96. Hi King Seng,

Thanks for joining us in the bowling session, hope you have fully recovered from your surgery.

Constance, noted your payment and will get Joy to acknowledge!

    Dan & Joy

  97. Helo HouChong@113

Jangan lekas marah, nanti tak handsome, girls pun lari seribu batu tau! hee
Trima kaseh lagi…nx time not only the 2 boys saya blanja..awak juga ok

    Sam@101 & StevenC@103..
You both such Mr NiceGuy make my heart melt!
Thank you v much muah! :)

  98. Dan and Joy,

I will be at the flea mart by 12nn to set up my two stalls. First stall sells used condoms, used books and a pain cream used by thai boxers.

The 2nd stall will be unmanned; but will have posters on a dating service for 18 – 40s.

Hope we have many creative stalls, and that we can use this event to meet new friends, and of course, sell off some goodies, and make a couple of hundred dollars.

I will also bring some white cards, for those who need to write down item prices. Think I shall bring a couple of plastic bags so that buyers can carry their purchases.

And since this is halloween day and night, try wearing something fun. If not, paint your faces. For the most creative stall, I shall give the stall owner one used condom (apple fragrance, not marmalade). And, for the 1st 6 persons with painted faces or goul masks or halloween wear, I shall give a sachet of unused condom.

Dolly and myself look forward to seeing you relaxed, crazy and cheery. Thanks Dan and Joy.

    Terence Seah

  99. I am bringing along a few young plants grown from cuttings in mineral water bottles, to the mart. These are basil, mint and laksa leaf plants. The young plants are for sale or swap for Aloe Vera or Lemon Grass plant. If you have the AV or LG plant, kindly bring them along on the day.
    HC

  100. Daisy #108

I oso blur blur liao, thought u are helping Karen and that’s why I asked to be next to Karen too so that you don’t have to run around mah.

    Jassmine #114

Yes the violins belong to my nephew, as for pricing…I haven’t got the vaguest idea now, will check and revert to you asap

    Sockie

  101. Terence,

If you are early you can go to the Mahjong room to learn to play. The Hall will only be available to us from 1.00pm where we can do the tables arrangement. Our booking hours from 1.00pm -9.00pm include setting up and dismantling time, which mean we will have to vacate the premises by 9.00pm sharp!

I am luggimg my color printer for any kind of printing required. Yes, stall holders make sure you have sufficient plastic bags around.

Aiyoh still hunting around for Count Dracula outfit but no luck, will think of something! Yea, there are interesting prizes from Terence, let our creative juices work for our stalls and makeups for Halloween Night!

    Those who drive, take note:
Member rates:$1.02 per hour, after 6.00pm $2.04 per entry.
    Non-member: $1.53 per hour, after 6.00pm $3.06 per entry.
Alternatively you may park at the HDB carparks just across Safra Mount Faber.

Jonson want to share a table to sell books and movies cds, any taker?

    2 more days to go!

    Danz4Joy!

  102. Hi Hou Chong,

You were right. 6″ by 6″of space is just enough for me to stand “tall” on the table with both arms closed like the statue of Sir Stamford Raffles in jock straps. ha! ha! :)

I would like to pay 1/2 of your table share. As soon as most of yr marmalade tubs has been sold , I will quickly lay down my assorted items which I found from spring cleaning my home.

The odd items are in good condition :-( No prices are allowed here. )but negotiable while stock lasts.

    1) Brand New Greek MasterPieces from the Louvre ( Book )

  103. Hi James,

Thank, will get Jonson to share with you rather than to have two absentee vendors sharing a table, I will have to put Lydia’s stuff with someone else.

    Cheers,

    Dan & Joy

  104. Hi Steven #126,
Great to hear that some more articles will be displayed on our table. Lets hope that this table will be among the most interesting and it can draw lots of attention. No worries about the share of cost – in the spirit of the flea market, lets have fun, enjoy.
    HC

  105. Hi Dan and Joy, and those who plan to sing this Saturday,

I love this song ??? very much. And, I know many of you can sing this song well. But, I myself cannot sing this song. If it is ok with you, I like to add some fun and creativity to our monthly gathering cum flea mart.

Maybe a small amount, but I shall pay for this song to be sung any number of times.

    Terence Seah

  106. Hi Terence,

We are open to all suggestions, like what Jassmine said this booth should be very popular. I just hope that the home theatre set is powerful enough!

I am not sure whether we have this song, anyone who has please bring the cd along, let’s have a merry and hilarious times together.

Another booth to be set up suggested by Joy is $1 for a hug, dun know whether it will work well with fella SHCians, just an idea!

    Danz4Joy!

  107. Danz,

If Joy is the one offering the hug, it sure will work,
probably the queue will snake around to Woodlands. Be
    prepare to be jealous, haha.

    To all,

I’ve sold off the Glucose meter and 2 ‘100% Money Back
Guaranteed’ reports. Thank you for the support.

    james

  108. Hi Lydia,

You can share table with Joyce Qwik, James will share with Jonson.

James, wish you more success with your products! #134 If Joy can do it for a good cause it may be okay. I can still peddle a good hug for just 70 cents, how dat?

1 more day to go for fun, enjoyment, excitement and cheap buys!

    Danz4Joy

  109. Hi Dan

Please register my attendance. Will help out where is needed, then see what to participate in, or I can just KLKK.

Oh Terence, I love that song but my Hokien pronunciation is not so good, hmm.. may take you on, if I am still around, ha! ha! ha!

    oicheng

  110. Terence, I bot this DVD in China for only RMB25 to sell to Thomas Loh liao so unless he is attending the flea market den we can ask him 2 bring along lor.. Dolly

  111. Hi Oi Cheng,

Glad to know you are coming to support us. Can you help at the Karoeke booth? I think Dolly and Caroline is helping out too.

See you all nice folks tomorrow!

    Danz4Joy!

  112. Hi Dan/ others,

How do I go to Safra Mt.Faber from Clementi town ?

And which is the nearest MRT stn to SAFRA pls, ?

    Thanks and awaiting yr answer.

  113. “Another booth……..suggested….is $1 for a hug…..”.

A sale or a purchase booth? Think it was deliberately left ambiguous. In the case of Dan, he’s likely to be a nett buyer of hugs altho the smart bizman in him will probably ask his Joy to help and even out the P&L. If Miss Singapore, Miss SHC or Miss Everything stands there, yes, eveything will start kissing them; at one buck for a bug that a;so comes with hugs, it sure is a steal.

Dan, I had lunch just now at safra and seated thyere on a 4×2 table was Rudy Hugdunno selling his 7-time all england conquering badminton racket. He gave it to me after we hugged each other from top and stopped at the bottom, and my promise that he will get to tug you home tomorrow to hug as he likes.

So with his Yoneyama wooden racket, i shall be ready to renew this rivalry with you on the court altho, with mths of training, you shd hv streaked streets ahead of me now but no issue if my erstwhile trusted doubles partner Albert and John are there……..there’ll do all the running and I, as usual, squat safely under the net to do the pundit’s work.

  114. Hi! Joy N Dan
Joy, I have paid the $20 to your POSB a/c but the bank counter staff required your full name to make sure the amt will be correctly credit to you.
    Many thanks

  115. Hi

Those who have not paid, please write a comment here on when you will be making the payment.

If you have paid and the payment date is not put against your name in the list above, please write a comment here to say when payment was made so that we can match against the printout in the bank book.

    Thanks.

    Dan

  116. Thanks Yew Kwong for bringing the cd.

Tim, miss your lively comment lately, where have you been? Sure you are joining us for badminton tomorrow?

So folks, bring your friend to the Flea Mart. The membership booth is available to those keen to join us.

    Dan & joy

  117. Haha, Dan, it’s for real and yes I will be joining you all.

One disappointment tho……………….Rudy Hugdunno has takeb back his racket becos he was mistaken that his hug of Dan will also bring him Joy…how can, right?

Will be buying a racket later and blame it if I dont play well. See you and folks.

  118. Hi Admin,

My post #120 seems to have disappeared into thin air. Is this the Halloween effect? /o/

I will be attending with Kristy, Cindy Low and Patricia Lim after 4.30 pm

    Robert

  119. Thanks Danz and Joy for sacrifycing so much time and effort
in organising the flea market at Safra ( Mt. Faber )

I find it rather amusing when I came with 2 bags of goodies for sale but when I left I had bought another big Calvin Klein bag which was good enough to put in the many other items which I bought from other sellers at discounted prices which even the pasar malam cannot give. Ha! ha! :)

  120. Hey Danz and Joy

Thanks for the experience! Made some sales for both my “boss” and myself. What with the supportive patronage of all our wonderful “customers” or should I say FRIENDS. I certainly did not miss the efforts of some of them in making a purchase no matter how small the item is. Thank you once again1

I have an idea! Maybe the both of you can be our kepalas for a roaming SHC Flea Market. What about that?

  121. Hey Danz and Joy,

No words can ever express the thanks that we felt for all your hard work in making this event possible. We had flea market, karaoke, badminton, racket ball, bowling, mahjong… all in one day.

You guys made alot of sacrifices, even lunch & dinner, to make sure everything run smoothly.. such relentless dedication is indeed admirable, to say the least.

Also thanks to Boon Liang and all others for making this event a success. To Hamida for the line dance item, and Dolly (& who else?) for the special segment on Halloween contest, That’s the spirit of SHC… keep it up!

    CHeers, Lydia.

  122. Accolades to my old friend Dan and Joy for a job well done on the Monthly Gathering cum Flea Mart.

I bought a couple of things at a real bargain too. Brisk sales and some SHCians are laughing to the ‘small bank’ with the sale. Steven Chan can afford to by another bag of goods for the next flea mart with his fantastic sales of the panties hahahahaaa!

  123. Hi Patrick Lee SJ,

    Good of you to take some time off from yr meditation;

Ai Yah! The NEW look “Kitaro” with his moustaches and long goatees ; good enough to chark tam tong. Ha! ha! :)

Sales of the panties ??? Male under gear lah!
Hi time you shd get enough another new pair of Lo Far Ain glasses. Fantastic sale of “jock straps “???
Strange-lah not one was bought but VCDs,DVDs and a book was sold instead.

Patrick, think of it being FUN and not a money making business. Moreover, you also get a chance to buy from other sellers. It is a win-win situation.

  124. Hi Hou Chong,

This is NOT an advertisement but sincere appreciation.

    1) As soon as you placed the KK marmalades on the table ,
a flock of members quickly went to CHEONG from you.
Within 5 mins all were SOLD OUT! and more orders were placed.

1.1) HC,pls. amend my order at flea market. Now, I would like to order more 3 KK marmalade and 2 Lemon marmalade for the coming Nov.If I am not around in M’sia, pls. ask Lina Ng to take on my behalf and I will pay her.

On the other hand, for me almost 4hrs I have to
“part woo ying”but the sales came fast at the last min when I was about to siow thong.

    2) Today,I am having breakfast with a difference ie with Hou Chong’s homemade non-preservative,non-colouring and fat
free KK marmalade jam spread on my slices of bread.
    V. Yummy indeed ! Mo Tak Thong. Even those claimed to be best brands of commercial made orange marmalade jams cannot beat HC flavour.

    3) HC,with a great “secret” recipe like yours, I am sure you can also one day open yr own franchise selling
    “Signature” HC jams .

    4) When Terence’s idea of a brand new cafe @ SHC Meeting Place has been set up, one of the customers’ draws to visit the cafe I believe will be HC signature KKM.

  125. Oh my tall order StevenC : what is ‘chark tam tong’
This statement sounds familiar: “Don’t give me the craps”
hahaha ! Please write in English lah lah lah.

  126. Dan, Joy,

I enjoyed the flea mart cum monthly gathering yesterday. Can see both of you were tired and exhausted with all that running around. It was a good experience for SHC too. We can use the feedback for future flea marts.

Thank you, I am sure many members do too. Now, I guess we should be on the lookout for the next Flea Mart EO.

    Terence Seah

  127. Hi Lydia #159

Most welcome it’s quite fun dancing though for a short while at least we keep ourselves occupied there. Too bad you can’t join bowling, we had great time laughing & joking.

    Hi Dan & Joy

Tks for your great efforts in organising mthly gathering, flea mart & bowling for the SCHians to meet up & have fun. I enjoyed the bowling though have lost touch for many years hantam only lah ha..ha

    Cheers
    Hamidah

  128. May I offer my feed back of yesterday’s flea mart.
It was an enjoyable afternoon for me. I was able to chat with many members, sell all my Kumquat marmalade, some bottled young plants and on the other side. able to buy a few articles at unbelievable prices.
There was fun all around, the people, the stalls and the entertainment organised for the day.

Perhaps, the only area which all of us could think about for future mart, is how to promote more public patronage.

Thank you Danz and Joy, Terence and Dolly and everyone else who put together and contributed to the success of this flea mart. My special thanks to Sam Goh, my “top” sales promoter..hehe, and Steven Chan for helping me at the stall.
Hope all of you had a good day too and we can do this again in future.

    Hi Steven, #162
Thank you for your kind comments. Glad you enjoyed the marmalade and I will certainly arrange that you received your orders in full at the end of November. Thank you also for taking care of the stall yesterday while I was wondering about the premises – much appreciated.
    HC

  129. Dear Joy and Dan

Thank you both so much for putting in so much effort and time into organising the flea mart cum SHC monthly gathering.

I enjoyed myself very much :)

Bought some lovely blouses, a book, jelly and KK Marmalade preserve. I also enjoyed the karaoke even though I cannot get the key I want. Scream, shout and cracked my voice when I could not reach the key but all the same, I enjoyed.
Thanks to Lily for sponsoring some of my songs and Dolly for patiently playing my requests.

As we could not get the “Wo Meng Ti” yesterday, I went out to buy a copy of the kok disc and have started learning it. Almost there.

Terence, will probably be able to sing it for you at Batam.

Had some of HC’s kkm preserve last nite with a sunflower seed dinner roll before going to bed.

This morning had another two of the rolls with the KKM preserve with a cup of hot tea. Yum!!!!

It was good to catch up with some long time no see members.

    Thanks once again.

    Cheers
    Caroline Gee

  130. Hi Hou Chong @ 167,

We are happy to hear that you enjoy yourselves v. much at our private function.

It is indeed a pleasure to help out at your stall, Norlinda’s and mine all on the same table.

Killing 3 “birds” with 1 stone!!!

I truly agree with you re:
How to promote more public patronage ?

    i) Frankly,I hardly see any SAFRA NON-shc members( gen public)
patronising our stalls. Perhaps, the small A4 poster at the glass door isn’t large enough to capture their attention and more directional signs to show the way to the multi- purpose room which is isolated at one corner.

ii) I really wonder if the big and long printed cloth banner could be placed at the entrance of the Safra Club or in a prominent place where visitors are bound to see it and may want to come in to take a peep.

My personal observation. You may beg to differ.
    Any other suggestions ?

banner with the words SHC flea Mart

Thank you Danz and Joy, Terence and Dolly and everyon

  131. Thanks you all for your positive and negative feedbacks. Like what Terence said, let this be a learning experience. We really have no idea how it will turn out, but to do our best.

The idea of having all the activities on at the same time really was that we are hoping for more members participation. I had wanted a big banner similar to our D&D size and displaying it outside but was held back by our budget contraints.

We agree that more public participation would make a lot of difference as it would encourage more involvement from our members.

Let’s us continue to look for better venue with high traffic flow. I know that Pek Kio CC have monthly Flea Mart but how to get it to be an SHC event as the public vendors are also taking part.

We hope that other will take the initiative to hold this event annually. If no taker, I am willing to do it again and hoping for Joy’s support. Safra do have regular Flea Mart being held quarterly in the main lobby. Perhap for the next bazaar, we will have another closer look whether our members will want to do it again.

It a joy to us to see all our member coming together having a great and fun times in the singing and dancing and playing mahjong and having a ball of a time at bowling!

Daisy, what do you mean by having roaming Flea Mart?

    Danz4Joy

  132. I want to thank Dan and Joy for organizing this flea mart. It was the first time I became a vendor although I’ve patronized several flea marts in the past. The experience was what I wanted and I got it.

Many many thanks to the SHC ladies who bought several items from my table. The haggling was fun and I also want to thank Marilyn and Maggie for helping me ‘pull’ customers.

I reckon selling edibles will always be a success so if I do take part in future flea marts, I must first learn from my mum how to make her Nonya kaya and her assortment of rempahs for cooking all kinds of meat and vegetables.

    Thank you all once again.

    Ros

  133. Hi Dan & Joy,
yes thanks for organizing this event it was fun.

I went there with 3 big bags and go home with less than 1 bag..I really enjoy it and also able to mingle with fellows SHCians and the bowling sections.

I want to thank those who bought items from me.

    cheers

  134. Hi Dan and Joy,

This comes a bit late as I saw that many of the members have already given their comments and feedback! Just wanted to add my word of THANKS! for all the effort put into orgnaising the Flea Mart.
It was my first experience selling my customised limited edition jewellery… Although the crowd was thin, I did collect enough to cover my table rental …hahaha.
But more improtantly, it was an experience for me and I enjoyed the opportunity to share the results of my jewellery hobby and hopefully make some sales to help me defray a little of the cost of buying the expensive crystals and beads for my work.

As the saying goes, “Every cloud has a silver lining”… the positive part of the relatively low traffic was the opportunity we had to walk around to check out each others stalls and also make some new friends! So once again, thanks for the FUN!

  135. A great thanks to Dan and Joy for making this a success.
And of course, not forgeting Dolly, Sam and Hamidah who
helped out with songs and dances at the monthly gathering.

Tru the support of fellow members, I was able to sell
about $100 of health stuffs. However, due to the temptation
of so many items on offer, we bought > $100 of real
bargains and brought back more bags then when we arrived, haha.

In short, it was an enjoyable and thrilling experience.

    james n susan tan

  136. Hi James,

haha, u make my toes laughing away.

Even though I bought a few pcs of ‘sexy’ garments but when folded nicely, its only occupied a corner of your bag and they are really ‘good buy, best buy and must buy’, thats why I buy.

    Hi Dan & Joy,
Thank you very much to our EOs for all the effort.

  137. Hi Steven @ 126,

Are the “1990 (Limited Edition) of collectible S $10 coin( legal tender) with the auspicious “ Horse ” Zodiac sign.( 2pc) issued by the Spore Mint.” still available? If yes, I would like to buy them off you if the price is right.

    Hi Dan & Joy,

Thank you very much for your effort to make this Flea Mart cum Monthly Gathering a reality. Although I came very late and didn’t stay for the bowling, it was good to meet up with some old friends and a few new faces.

    Cheers!
    Angela.

  138. Well Dan, I meant a regular affair with a change of venues of course.

Ahyoi, spotted mistakes in my earlier comment. Must have been blurry eyed and slipped into dream land while writing at 12:24am. He he.

  139. Hi Angela Straaten @ 178,

    Yes it is still available.
I had only left 2 pieces of the “1990 (Limited Edition) of collectible S $10 coin( legal tender) with the auspicious “ Horse ” Zodiac sign issued by by the Spore Mint.”

If you are keen to have one / both coin/s, pls. reply thru my email pls at sfc0007@yahoo.com.sg

Btw, may I have yr email address pls ? You sounded new.
    Thanks for enquiring.

  140. Hi Dan & Joy,

Glad to have attended this Flea Mart cum Gathering held in an air-conditioned hall, as compared to previous ones held @ Bali Lane, under the scorching sun! Your efforts are well appreciated by everyone.

It was indeed heartening to see the anxiety & excitement of fellow members haggling from table to table, scouting for the best bargains. Special thanks to Boon Liang, Janet Chan & Karen Thio, for rendering their help in promoting the sale of some China teapots.

To conclude, I’ve got the best bargain of a C&K handbag from Eliza Chua, with 2 totebags free with my purchase…Thank you for your graciousness, Eliza!

    Cheers!

  141. Now with the Flea mart over we want to thank all who have given us your feedbacks. The bazaar was meant to be a time of having fun and enjoyment and of course some measure of profits will encourage us to do it again.

We want to thank those who take the trouble to dress up for Halloween and creating laughter in our midst. Sorry if all of you were not amply rewarded.

Having all the activities do required a cost factor. The statement of account was out and we are in the red, but it was Terence who painted it black. At this point we want to give our appreciation to Terence who initiated the idea for the bazaar and we are happy to organise the event!

We would have recover more if I have included a Tombola Night. Maybe we will have it as an event in the near future. Dan and Joy really take great pleasure in organising all these activities for fellow members which also give us the opportunity to meet up with old and new friends!

Special thanks to Boon Liang who been a great help and to Dolly and Sam and those who were early to help to set up all the tables. And thanks to Marilyn who manned the Membership booth and to Oi Cheng helping at the karoeke table. Thanks too to Hamidah who lead in the line dancing!

    Danz4Joy

  142. To members who have ordered the KK Marmalade :

Pleased to advise that the Kumquat and Lemon marmalades will arrive over the weekend. I planned to bring them to SHC Nov’s Mthly Mtg at Han’s café at 6pm on Monday, 30 Nov. to hand them over to you. Kindly see me at the meeting or if you can’t, pls arrange for your friend to collect the marmalade, on your behalf. Thank you for your support once again.
