Mar2010: Ulu Pandan Pk Connector, S1

Date: 13th March 2010(Saturday)

Start Time:  4.15pm (approx 2.5hrs)

Meeting point: Ghim Moh, Block 15 (facing Commonwealth Ave West)

Getting there:
by MRT – Buona Vista MRT Station use Exit A to Ghim Moh Block 15.
by Bus – Bus service nos. 92, 100 & 111.  After the bus turns into Ghim Moh,
alight immediately, walk back ie., against traffic flow (Blk 15 can also been seen from the main road – Commonwealth Ave West).

Leaders:  ChristinaCL Chan and Charles Wee

The Ulu Pandan Park Connector was completed in Oct/Nov 2009.  This
stretch "S1" is covered with greenery which provides a rustic feel.  It runs besides
a canal – Sungei Ulu Pandan canal, that flows into a river – Sungei Pandan.

Do look up among the trees and shrubs; you would probably behold colorful   emoticon
birds eg., the magnificent Purple Neck Heron, Kingfishers, Red-Capped
Woodpeckers or the White Egret; butterflies flitting among the greenery.

The walkway is well paved and most part of the canal route is generally well
shaded.  It also leads towards the Ayer-Rajah Expressway (AYE) where we
will cross a bridge which was a portion of an abandoned railway.
The walk will end at IMM Shopping Mall.            emoticon

  1. Helo Christina..
As i was reading your introduction to this connector park, it reminded me of my ‘old place’..so nostalgic!
I used to stay at SunsetWay, & i love this park v much…but that time it was just a simple park..

Every weekend evening, will bring my kids to jog/jalan2..the most unforgettable incident was when my two young sons suddenly hilang & appeared at that abandoned railway track!aiyo!imagine how frantic i was!
Nowadays when we passed AYE from JB second link…always on the lookout for this park…it seem just yesterday..didn’t realise the kids hv grown up(but im still young la..ahem!)with boys in tertiary, army & the girl waiting for her ‘A’…ahhh..now can ‘relax’ a bit la…haha

Chritina…i v much wanted to go this time & take a breather of this new park…but alas!..I’ll be flying on 13th..2am!..apa macam la…so ngam2 ho!
next time i will join your morning walk, ada tak?..:)
btw…sori,suaku..what is TBA,C in your walk schedule?

  2. Nor Sayang…..this Ulu Pandan Park Connector, so “ulu” to me leh. Ya lah…flying to Paris, thot you can jalan2 with me thru’ your old “kampong”.

I am interested to walk, anyone from my kampong going huh? Need company leh..never been there before?

“Suaku” Nor….TBA (to be advised) & TBC (to be confirmed)…apa macam…….

    Ah Nee

  3. #1 Hi Nor, I had stayed in Clementi & also walked to Sunset way via the link. I like the canal route and I am happy that the govmt has decided to leave it untouched. The route is lined with many trees and one can hear birds chirping and if you are at the right time, can see some beautiful birds lazing around the waterside.

No morning walks yet. Anyway, see you at other walks,,,, enjoy your hols!

  4. #3 yea! DanielO, look forward to seeing both you and GerryO.
From IMM there is a shuttle service to Jurong East MRT. It is at 10mins intervals, the shuttle service has improved and much more efficient than before. It is at IMM carpark at Level 1(ground floor), we will see it when we reach IMM.
    Thanks for your support.

  5. Hi Christina and Charles

I would very much like to join in this interesting walk. But I’ll be going to Camerons that weekend. Hence, I have to give it a miss. Sigh….

See you all at the next walk and enjoy yourselves,
    Gabriella

  6. Hi Joyce,

Thanks for the company…..are we going by train? If so, can meet me at Kovan MRT or you have a better way to reach there. Try not to take Bus, the journey can kill me….hehehe….see you!

    Ah Nee

  7. #7 Gabriella, yo,,,you have been a regular in our walks…sigh… but hey, hope you get cooler air up in the Camerons. See you :D

  12. Ivan, the timing must be “choon choon”…..you have to get out from Kovan MRT station first, but no need to tap your “EZlink card”. After that, you walk to the centre of the concourse, from there, I will be able to see you. Please keep in touch on the timing. Joyce….are you coming from Hougang station too? yahooo…..all the Hougang “nan” going for a walk together….. :)

Else, visit the facilities at Buona Vista MRT or at Ghim Moh I think there is a coffee shop at Blk 10.

    ChristinaCL

  20. Hi Steven Ng,

Sorry man. I , special case, went to register at army camp, officer says I need NOT perform army duties despite being a S’porean. ???

    Wanna know why?

  21. I tell you why.

With your lovely height, you make a perfect firing target but how many bullets can you take b4 you bye bye? So they’d rather let you be the walking statement of what “standing head and shoulders above others” means, and inspire children to aim high. Thankfully you had obliged by becoming a teacher, not a teapot maker.

And yr need to bring a plastic bag? Virgin boy urine is very much sought after as a natural cure for many ailments inclduing insomnia, constipation so he’s not going to give it to ants buut take it home.

So, Steven-N, be very nice to Steven-C, you just wont know when you need him and his giraffe essence.

Also, distinguished cooks use it as a marinate. In fact from the grapevine, the meat eaten at the February bbq where he attended, was marinated with this special brew…….

  22. Hi Tim Liu,

    Don’t talk 3 talk 4.

Conserve your energy and come n join us for cycling along the adventurous route at Pulau Ubin next Sat 20/3.

  23. Steven-C #50,
If Tim-L suddenly or no longer talk3 talk4 and also talk 5+6+7+8+9, then something is really wrong ….. a seimic shift in his cyber-character ….. then you better pay him a physical visit to check out his mental health …. hahahhaha :)))
On another thread, Tim-L already talking about your energy conservation techno-orgies…..
You have a great weekend ahead…
    Ivan Lim

  24. Verily, Ivan-L.

Know what strange things people can do once they are in a lift and the door closed?

Moments ago, I took the elevator up after my de-stress puff. In walked a gorgeous, in 6-inch heels and a black skirt.

No sooner than the door closed, she started her footwork as she boxed away, oblivious of my presence (or maybe, she had fought and beaten more beefy hunks than me to pulp). Then she kicked higher than high, and I closed my eyes till I heard the “ding” and walked out.

Intuitively, I looked back and up at the floor indicator. The number dived from 33 to 1 in seconds. The feisty woman must hv delivered her knock-out punch, finally.

  25. #53 JamesTan, thanks for your support!

    Regards,
    ChristinaCL

Just a note: ConradT and BobbyY are preoccupied this Sat.
See you guys some time soon.

  26. Lawrence-K #60
Are you the other Lawrence who went to the Kelong – Back To Basic with us last year? ….. the one with the sarong joe-kek joe-kek???
If yes, wow! Long time no see……..
If no, we will meet and intro at the walk…..
    Cheers,
    Ivan Lim

  27. Had been busy with work lately.
Just logged in to looksee the latest happening.
    Boy, am I lucky!! :)
    Please register me.
    Need to destress, lah.

    Thanks,
    Thomas

  28. #63 ThomasG, I think there is only 1 Thomas Goh,,, yes, going for walks is the best way to destress esp where there is greenery. C you.

    Thanks,
    ChristinaCL

  29. Wow, not since the Long March do we see another march of this scale. However, like the LM, it looks to be as arduous, with pelting rain and possibly my butties living up in trees also pelting with overnite bananas, for disturbing their afternoon nap.

Seriously, walkists, dont forget yr payong. Those who wear raincoats, pls ensure they are big……..you just wont know what fun you can get hiding a few inside it.

  30. sorry, christina, my jogging shoe sole came off yesterday, i didn’t have time or opportunity to find replacement.sorry couldn’t inform you earlier. didn’t have a way to contact you earlier.

  31. #77 FeztusL, the shoes must have been overworked kakakka
FYI, we are not allowed to post our contact no. in the website. Sorry, you couldnt contact me. I will email to you separately. You are rugged so the next walk is a good challenge! :D

    Rgds,
    ChristinaCL

  32. When we started walking, it started raining too {sob sob} and some of you had to turn back as you do not have a brolly and there was not enough to share,,,, so sorry, we didnt speak to the weather man earlier :D

Thanks for sharing your payongs and ponchos. Though all of us were either soaked on 1 side or completely soaked, we could still chit-chat and shared a joke here and there; all these, whilst WALKING IN THE RAIN, wow! hehehehee

Kudos to those who plod on and completed the trail :D :D

Daniel, thanks for your wind breaker!
CharlesW, thanks for waiting with ThomasG and later caught up with us,,, I can understand it aint easy for both of you to share a small brolly hehehee

This evening, I need not rush off as it was 1 of my rare ‘free’ night! so could stay on after dinner. The desserts was nothing to rave about but had a wonderful fellowship!

Hope all of you have a warm shower/bath before tuck in under the bedcovers…..zzzz goodnight!

Thank you for your support! sie sie!
CharlesW, ChristinaCL & the walk team

  33. Hi Christina,

So sorry to have missed the walk and fellowshiip. Both Lynn and I have a busy week ahead and we can’t risk walking in the rain and falling ill. We decided to turn back when the rain got heavier. To think that we travelled all the way there (from East to West) and not be able to explore the place was quite a blow to us.
Anyway, this morning we decided to set out on our own and the weather was good to us. Saw some egrets along the canal and huge yellow birds on the orange flowering trees. Picturesque trail, all in all.

  34. Jogging shoe sole came off so cant walk? No excuse, not a defence and not even a mitigating factor.

At our age, we shd own more than 1 pair of shoes and many more pairs of slippers. If a member of parliament aspirant cd submit his entry for the fray in slippers, held rallies wearing slippers, we can certainly do more with slippers.

You’re therefore senteence to 5 weeks of hard labour viz, patrolling the entire stretch of Ulu Pandan, chasing off monkeys and molesters without discrimination.

Yes, I tried frantically tto preveent the rain-maker having a field day. I lost but managed to secure a truce with him. He wont disturb us this Saturday 20th and so we shd hv no worry abt rain at Ubin BUT knowing how naughty he is, he might start pouring on Friday and cause un-tarred paths to be soggy and slippery. So, do exercise caution and tap yr bike brakes gently as you go down-slope.

Hehe, seems like Jass-T has lost her walk-mate. But who knows, bcos of this, she might find her wog mate…………..wog shdnt be read in the dictionary meaning : it’s the acronym for western oriental gentleman and he owns several vessels and also submarines.

  35. #80 AmyS & Lynn, wow, love that kind of the spirit!! I am speechless. Picturesque,,, oh yea! and a tranquil country place; with a quiet calm… framED in the mind.

Alas! we couldnt have more pictures taken due to the rain… see you next time round.

    Rgds
    ChristinaCL

  36. “……..love that kind of…spirit!! I am speechless…..”

Chris-C, never knew you love spirits and maybe you’re not really speechless……arrgh arrgg arrgh is more in sync with love.

Actually, I was thinking of asking that soleless shoe/shoeless sole butty to also protect walkists from spirits but now you say you love them, will tell him to get the spirits spirited, roam Ghim Moh and moh moh the karchng of all who walk the trail.

Not least, since you’re into this type of love, you ‘d also do chanting so why not support Dan-H and attend his AnChanting Nite, be with spirits as you drink spirit?

  37. Thanks, Christinea, for organising this lovely and scenic walk. I have sent you 3 photos for our archives.

Thanks too, Charles, for graciously being with me as I waited for the rain to stop. In the process, I got to know you better and learning more about life situations.

I love the walk so much that this morning, I went actually the same route with a friend of me. We took 2 h 15 min to reach IMM. He loves long walks too. I’ve asked to join Silverhairsclub but he always politely declines.

  38. #84 TimL, oh yea! spirit-filled!
Thanks for the reminder on DanH’s niteout! Most weekends, I am enjoying my beautiful, spirited grandsons and that weekend, I cant spirit away kakakaka so, you have fun!
    TQVM.

  39. Chris-C, now that Dan-H has met his quota for the Chanting Nite, we dont need you liao (so much for friends hor?) but yr grandsons, ummm……… maybe I can convince Dan to give them 1-2-1 private tuition on chanting, starting with mouth-2-mouth resuscitation first to get their breathing right, with Dan’s mouth of cos.

The g’mom can either watch while her g’sons practise or hv her own private tutition as well but with a more luscious mouth, provided she starts to brush her teeth and pays the right price.
