World Cup games and draw results 2010

I am useless when it comes to football. But, I do know that the World Cup draws the attention of half the world.

Spain has not been beaten in 26 games.  Only 7 teams have ever won the World Cup.  They are Uraguay, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Germany, England and France.

Current holders are Italy.  Best African team is Ivory Coast.  Best team never to win the cup is Holland.  Worst is New Zealand.

Please see if you can think and work out a World Cup game for us to follow through.  I think it will be enjoyable.  Then, we can all play.

Calling the TimL and the HenryY.

  1. Braddell Heights, Cheng San, Chong Pang, Chua Chu Kang, Clementi, Fengshan, Gek Poh Ville, Jurong Spring, Mountbatten, Sengkang, Tampines Central, Telok Ayer Hong Lim Green, Toa Payoh East, Eunos (held at vacant land near temporary market), Woodlands, Zhenghua

Above are CCs where there’ll be free screenings.

    THE TENSION SEASON IS COMING!!

  2. Terence, yes, Holland have been playing the bridesmaid for too long and deserve to win in S Africa, and I think they have the mettle to make it happen this time.

In fact, in the year (was it 1974? with Pele and Johan Cruyf on their side, I thought they wd hv beaten Germany in the final. Germany themselves featuring the thunderbolt Gerd Mueller orchestrated by the meastro in Beckenbeur, were no push-overs though.

I have not been following closley this 2010 edition but will share my thots prior to some matches.

Very nice of you, Henry-Y, to put up all the names of the 14 CCs.

I am not sure whether the PA and the telcos hv done enough to win for themselves cheers than jeers. Already i hv heard grouses that why only 14 CCs? Dont we hv more CCs showing up when the GE nears and even hand-shakings come alive.

Personally, I think more CCs shd open up esp when soccer – and this time we are talking abt the World Cup priced out of the reach of lower earning wage earners – is concerned altho they need only bring early matches to CCs shown in rooms/halls which wont emit too much noise (e.g. air-cond) so as not to disturb others who need their restful sleep.

    2010 ????????????????????? ?????????????????????????

I wd be watching most of the 2 early games.

  3. Hi TimL, HenryY,

Who do you think will be this year’s World Cup champion? Simply eh?

    Terence Seah

  4. Terence, Singapore will win the WC of cos. Remember the fanfare when the promise of “Vision 2010” was made to Sporeans? Now in year 2010, Singaporeans got into the World Cup by getting to watch it on television, a deal clincjedat the 11th hour with some big man (not sure whether they are grown-ups tho) telling us to buy giant antennae to receive the telecasts from our neighbours.

I dunno all the 32 finalists (nto sure it’s 32 in the first place). There will be a few surprises into the quarter finals but in the race to a tight finish, it has to be the more celebrated teams like Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Spain and one African nation. Lest we lose sight of what reality is, the winner wont be any coubtry but bookies mainly from Asia. In my hunch, England will disappoint and, at best, will reach only the Qtr-Finals, with a lot of hard luck stories to justofy.

  5. Hi Henry,Tim, if you want to watch the World Cup foc and in the early hours at 2.30am you can go to //globaltele.blogspot.com to get the live streaming of the football matches. There are also hundreds of movies, documentaries like Discovery etc to watch. Cheers..

  6. TimL,

I was such an idiot to have been persuaded to put some money into New Zealand, only to realise that NZ never won a game at all.

Gosh, this may be illegal. Shall we have a bet? Good to pull some cash for a good drinking session during the World Cup finals.

  7. ”..there’s no need to cry Ar..gen..tina….the truth is, we’ve never left you…..”
Like Jupiter & Mars, coming together on the same planetary path…my heart & my head are with you ARrgen…tina! ( for this 2010 world cup).
I believe the greatest player ever is still Maradona. The best player today is Lionel Messi. They are both footballing geniuses, who possesses that magical quality. That one flash of brillance, that can transform & decide a game. That makes the whole world watch in awe & in wonder of their magic. It also makes the whole world want to believe that there can be magic in their own lives too!!!, and that they can also dream…..!!!

The following are my humble $0.2cts worth of opinion.
    Grp winner 2nd 3rd 4th
    A France S’Africa Mexico Uruguay
B Argentina Nigeria S Korea Greece
    C England USA Slovenia Algeria
    D Germany Ghana Serbia Australia
    E Holland Denmark Japan Cameroon
F Italy Paraquay Slovakia N Zealand
    G Brazil Portugal Ivory C N Korea
    H Spain Chile SwitzerL Honduras

From here we will go into the q’ter finals.
yours truly will then present my findings again.
Of Course me Argentina all the way lah!!!
In Sat’s ST ”Cup of Destiny” by Rohit B, it’s interesting that he mentioned that the avg goals per game is dropping and 2006’s is 2.3 goals per game.
What it means is that the 32 teams that comes into these finals are becoming more & more technically competent. Those who wants to bet on goals take note.

Just a reminder that gambling when out of control is an extremely bad thing, it can kill!!!

For me, the world cup is like Chinese New Year, a special period, so I bet small, never more than $50- per game.

ok gals/guys here is henry yip for SHC TV signing off from Johanesburg….going lunch now, then watch GKS Memorial…..1 minite silence please…..

  8. Dear Capt. Terence #6 G’Day.
I believe U can use my filing as a guide,
yr gd frds pulling a fast one on you lah hahahaha

Dear Bobby #5G’day. Appreciate yr tips. cheers !

  9. Thank you Bobby-B.

Of cos, my butty Dan-H wears boxers and he hangs not bras/panties (not even hie beloved’s) but has hung up his boxing gloves…..so he’s now a lovely loving man.

Terence, Henry’s prictions for the Group stage finishing are :-

    Grp winner 2nd 3rd 4th
    A France S’Africa Mexico Uruguay
B Argentina Nigeria S Korea Greece
    C England USA Slovenia Algeria
    D Germany Ghana Serbia Australia
    E Holland Denmark Japan Cameroon
F Italy Paraquay Slovakia N Zealand
    G Brazil Portugal Ivory C N Korea
    H Spain Chile SwitzerL Honduras

I’ll move thema little to :-

A S’Africa Mexico France Uruguay – we shd see a very tight finish here
B Argentina Nigeria Greece S Korea
    C England Slovenia Algeria USA
    D Germany GhanaAustralia Serbia
    E Holland Denmark Cameroon Japan
F Italy Paraquay Slovakia N Zealand (no change)
G Brazil Portugal Ivory C N Korea (no change)
    H Spain SwitzerL Chile Honduras

I rate England and France lowly bcos in the case of the first, they dont have too many strikers. While Rooney is presently ins scintillating form, he is very proned to injuries. If he’s out, I cant think of who else can score…Lampard? Gerrard? In soccer, if a team doesnt score, it can only draw at best.

In the case of France, the players are largely disaffected by their coach. Also, I dont see many players of substance.

For now, I think S africa, which boats of no big name, will surprise…….not least, it’s the host country.

  10. Thanks Henry for the CC list and Bobby for the blog link. I do not intend to subscribe to Telcos and your info. come in very useful. Of course there are means to get free viewing: coffee shops, friend’s/relative’s places, RTM1, SCTV, RCT1 (using UHF indoor antenna) and internet e-streaming (CNN).

Soccer is a heart-breaking game as sometimes it is not the better team that wins in the Finals. The ball is round so they say and anything can happen. Bro Tim said that if a team doesn’t score, it can only draw at best. But not necessary so, as there is this element of luck and divine intervention. Wow lau, it’s an own goal at the very last minute!!!

Enjoy the games and for the betters, good luck. As for me, I’ll settle for peanuts and a lot of black coffee.

  11. Hah, Robert-Q, methink you must hv been a prolific of own-goal scorer during your playing days……….

@ days ago, I logged on to the link for the Japan-S Korea friendly. The telecast wasnt live – quite dead actually bcos it was only shown to start 1 hour into play-time; probably, I got the wrong sub-link.

Nonetheless, once again, Bobby-B, your lead to the link is very much appreciated.

I am warming up to Serbia breaking into what may be the domain of bigger names. They are solid in defence and have strikers who can efficiently cause opposing players like Robert to panick and score own goals, hehe……..

I also believe that many lesser lights but good African players will want to out-perform their best so as to get the chance of being spotted by talent hunters, thus leaving behind rands for euros. Yes, they’ll flaunt their talents unabashedly and with no apologies.

I will write France off, definitely.

  12. Hi Terence & soccer fan(atics),

My head says Germany (who always perform well in these one-month long world tournament where they slowly but surely gather momentum by simply playing efficient football like a machine)

My heart says Brazil (who has added strength to their usually porous defence, and whose idea of the beautiful game is to simply outscore their opponents)

For the record, Europeans have never won the World Cup outside Europe…so expect either a South American or 1st time African winner.

  13. Hi Tim & Jonathan,

If only I had played soccer in my younger days, then I might have been a prolific own-scorer. South Africa is a dark horse with no track records. Who knows, they may surprise the world by winning the World Cup by a last minute solitary own goal, a compliment of its more established and highly-rated opponent. In soccer, expect the unexpected. Place your bet on the underdog and who knows, you may be richly rewarded and laugh yourself all the way to the bank.

Btw, I am now watching the friendly international game between Netherlands and Mexico with a score-line of 2 – 1 in favour of the former. The game has just ended.

Good night, time to catch my sleep.

  14. Hi Tim #11 G’day France was always the big dissapointment in the last few world cups. And due to some BIZARRE events, they managed to win the 1998 world cup. I’m incline to go with yr suasion on France.

Hi Jonathan #12 G’day quote ”so expect either a South American or 1st time African winner” I cant agree more on yr wise insight.

Hi Robert #13 G’day quote ” South Africa is a dark horse with no track records. Who knows, they may surprise the world” Exactly!! Robert. While in the old days, we say ”the ball is round, expect anything” But now with the spread & availability of Sports training technology, these ”the ball is round” thing should not be the case. Right? As the facts have already pointed to the rising & convergence of technical competence amongs’t the teams with the lowering of the average goals per game phenomena. What tip the balance back to the ”ball is round thing” is FIFA’S refusal to allow technology in the refereeing of the games. THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS THE REASONS EXCEPT MAYBE FIFA THEMSELVES!!. So continue to expect hand balls ” but the referee din see it ” phenomena!!! etc etc. This is a big disgrace on FIFA!!!

Anyway, lets make the best of what we have and enjoy ourselves. Control what we can control, wht we cant control, we leave it to the above.

  15. Ok, Robert-Q, I owe you a beer for agreeing with me that S Africa will sparkle and being another contrarian. Boldly, I predict that it might even enter the semi-finals, with the last 16 a foregone conclusion.

Germany? their up0npcoming goalie has committed suicide but if they will trust their young untested players, they might have a revelation similar to a Carlos Tavez’ showcase 2 or 3 Olympics ago.

Henry-Y, with yr slcik body feints and an uncanny ability to juggle the ball btwn yr thights (I am dead-pan serious here), you cd actually make it into any of the top-contender teams. Imagine you juggle the ball in the opponents’ penalty box and any mis-timed kick will – not earning Robert an own goal – but give away a penalty to you. But of cos, having been crowned champion after that 1 mth long WC campaign, you will be too ravaged to think of another WC, hehe………

(If I were this smart, I wd hv long been a sought after celebrated soccer pundit so caveat emptor hor)

  16. Football or soccer was my passion during my school days. However after I notice the trend of commercialisation of such a beautiful game I completely ‘de-drug’ myself from the game. I do not want to contribute my time or money to make some people rich and yet it will a torture to follow the game in the early morning, day in and day out when the game is in session.

Players are not attracted to the game by their compassion but for their desire to be a instant millionaires. The game has also became a venue for gambling when people are addicted and lose thousands of dollars and in the process also their family and relationship.

  17. Free screenings from 34 Macdonald’s & 11 Kopitiam outlets on top on the 16 CCs. Happy watching!

  18. G’evening Ladies & Gentlemen, sit back, relax & enjoy the biggest game in the world. U deserve it, work so hard all these years!
Tonight S Africa minimum draw, if they r lucky, they may beat Mexico.

  19. G’evening All.
    S. Korea just done Asia proud. S Korea2.Greece 0 . Let’s hope the Park JiSung formula help them into the nxt stage.
Nxt game, ARGENTINAAAA!! vs Nigeria. The experts say 2.0 in favour of Argentna, I do not disagree.
Finally 2.30am Englang vs USA. Many in Sing writing off USA, I beg to differ. I see a tight game here, they may even draw. ok happy watching!

  20. After 4 much and thus far, to me, none of the 8 teams showed champions material. S Korea played their hearts out and looked good beating an uninspired Greece, quarelling among themselves. France lived up to my expectation. The S Africa-Mexico draw was a fair result and Argentina needed a defender to score for a miserly 1-0 win over Nigeria.

In 1.5 hours’ time. the 3 Lions will play the Yankies. Peter Crouch might score for England id he gets to play. Rooney? I see him lurking around as the bogeyman. Clint Dempsey, Donovan can all score for uncle sam. I see a draw game crystallising. I know, many will not hesitate to throw their basins, pots, pans, pants and panties at me for thinking so lowly of the Queen’s men………….

Not sure whether i shd sit thru the next 90 mins or snatch some sleep. Life does consist of so many tough decisions for men to make, while women can snore happily thru their beauty sleep……..sigh.

  21. Ok, it’s half-time now for the England-US clash and believe me you, it’s 1-1, with Steven gerrard scoring for the 3 Lions in 4 mins of play, and yes, it’s Clint Dempsey equalising for the Obamaians just before 1/2 time.

And yes, what was Robert Green doing in goal for England? Granted that David James is injured but surely Paul Hart is more reliable? As I wondered, a sucker punch floored him.

At the other end, his counterpart Tim Howard was flying all over, denying several sure-goal-but-for-him shots. Yes, one doesnt easily beat a tim.

back to watching the 2nd half liao. Good luck England, good luck USA.

  22. So the first half goals from Steven gerrard and Clint Dempsey settled it all for both teams at 1-1. My modest investment of $120 exchanged $285 in return (2-1 for Agentina, 1-0 for S Korea, and S Korea=Draw in the special doubles which won me the $).

France cant deo well bcos they hv Domenech as coach. Ebgland didnt play well bcos they fielded Emile Heskey alongside Rooney in attack. Just a few metres away in a direct 1 to 1 duel with Tim Howard, he shot the ball directly at the goalie, having in almost 10 previous occasions letting his team down by going off-side. Peter Crouch came in for him just with under 10 mins of play left……..too late for the beanpole to make an impact.

Lennon played well as England’s right winger but the same cant be said of the left winger Wright-Phlips who tended to dribble when he wasnt that good. Or fast. Steven gerrard played well, and so did Rooney who, starngely, played a wee bit too deep in the 2nd half.

Star of the match. Timmy of course. confirm it with the main newspapers tomorrow……..I dont bribe them to write that.

Ok, happy with that small money made, it’s bedtime……good morning, read you all again in the day.

  23. Thia is what i see in the next 3 WC matches.

Perhaps, Slovenia will carve out a narrow 1-0 win over Algeria.

Ghana wont score vs Serbia so in my mind, it will be a 1-0 or 2-0 victory to the latter if Serbia’s 2.02m tall Zigic can literally rise to the occasion. I am a bit prejudice here as in explicably, i just fancy the Serbs despite them playing in Ghana’s “home ground.”

The Germany-Australia clash looks like the thriller match of the day. The Germans are young – averaging 23 in age – are all assembled from teams in the German league and so are familiar with each others’ play, making blending easier.

The Aussies draw confidence from the name “Tim” which so far has proven to be a talisman. They dont have a pimp for coach but Pim Verbeek. The true Tim – Tim Cahill – shines in midfield which is their dynamo. In goalie Swach, they hv a pair of usually safe hands. I see a draw game here.

Btw, at a Pools betting shop yesterday, a young lady in her late teens to early 20s came rushing to me to ask how she cd place a England win bet. She said England sure win one.

I told her “sure win” was to stay out of betting so since she didnt know how to bet, stay out for good forever. She cast a dirty look at me.

I smiled and said, if she must bet bcos betting without knowing how runs in her family blood, then why not look at a draw which paid out 4.15 times, instead of the skinny 1.37 times for a triumphant England?

She gave me that sickly sickening look again as I walked away leaving her to learn what may be, i hate to think, her first step to Hades………..

  24. G’evening All.
Halftime – Algeria 0 : Slovenia 0 Algeria has the edge.
10pm- Fancy Ghana to hold Serbia to a draw at the least.
2.30am my humble prediction. Germany 1 Australia 0 happy watching.

  25. Korea is creating a storm in Africa.

In the match ended some 50 minutes ago, an almost Korean Slovenian by the name of Koren scored the solitary goal, carving out an undeserved 1-0 win over Algeria, reduced to 10 men after the sending off of cheetah or smthg that sounded like that.

Interestingly, the ball used in this 2010 edition of the WC bounces a lot, making it difficult for the goalie to catch low bounding balls, evident in the boo boos of Robert Green (for England) and now for Algeria. It shd suit dead-ball specialists like cristiano ronaldo.

So far invested $140 and already won $165. A good butty – a fellow SHCian – bets with me that Germany will beat Australia. Any other result, I win. Unfair? Nah, not when I was told by Lowe at noon that his team will be playing with 14 men in 2 colors.

Ok, heading for my bedroom to watch Serbia-Ghana live liao………

  26. Germany is too good. Serbia is too disappointing. Made 25 from SPolls, lose 20 to butty so still hv 5 for cheecheongfun and kopi siew dai 2mrow.

Can restfully go sleep liao. no point watching the G-A 2nd half.

  27. Happy that The ST, together with Reuters and Associated Press, confirmed mu thots that (1) Tim Howard was the Man of the E-US Match (2) the ball carries too much bounce (3) Heskey and Robert Green are too risky and green for England’s comfort.

My predictions yesterday went hay-wire so I shant be too clever today (altho even value investments according to my prediction wd still hv yielded a tiny profit).

So, just some silly thots to share.

Holland packs too much quality in its ranks. But playing the first match of the day under a blazing sun, and if Denmark were to put all 10 men behind the ball, it might end up a drab draw.

Camerron will play Japan in Africa so every writing on the wall shows a Cameooon win. Not the typical “yes man”, I fancy a draw.

Italy-Paraguay. This must certainly be the talk of pundits for the day. Defensively, Italy is good but she has been criticised as putting too many old men together to play a young ball.

Paraguay is agressive but might be a little suspect at the back………

I had invested $120 in 5 different wager types, with returns ranging from $180-$260, which means if any of the 5 hits the target, I will be home and dry.

    Well, let’s see………….

  28. G’eveng All.
Looks like Holland has just joined England & France as the over-rated of the WC. hehe
For me it has to be Cameroon & Italy. While it’s easy to call but it’s not easy to bet. We r betting against the all time champion ”toto” with their billion dlr track record and lousy odds to boot. So Tim tai-kor, u r doing well. hehe.

  29. Henry-T, absolutely. Hollnd had to depend on a Denmark og to give her the lead. The 2-0 scoreline flatters the Dutch.

Japan is now leading 1-0 at HT altho I wasnt anxious to rush back from seeing my daughter, to watch. Usually, when the Japs take a lead, it’s difficult for an ordinary team to score vs them. I do however hope it’s draw game, obviously bcos of vested interest.

The Italy-Paraguay match is crucial to me as the returns to my investment are clsoing in……….

    ???????????????? ???????????????????????? ??????????????????

  30. G’Evening. SVK 1 NZL 0 prob stay this way with 2 mins to go.
Just betted $30- for a draw @3.15 for Ivory C vs Portgal. Also betted $30-for a N Korea win @ $10- vs Brazil.
Both bets betray how ”mad” I am. haha. The traders & investors amongst us will baulk at the bad odds & prefer not to bet. They know the odds in trading r far better than this WC odds. hehe.
But I am taking this as entertainment expense & really one cant be too intellectual abt it.

I’m hoping for a black swan in the N korea game. hehe

  31. G’eveng All.
Yesterday for reason of tiredness, there was no football trading, but Spain was a real shocker, moral catch word – COMPLACENCY. Today,
    I’m $30- @$1.50 on ARGENtina vs S.Korea.
    I’m $30- @$1.78 on Nigeria vs Greece.
    Finally I’m $30- @ $3.25 for a draw betw France & Mexico. Happy watching.

  32. Finally I’m $30- @ $3.25 for a draw betw France & Mexico. Henry , r u mad? yes i know this’s the one i’ll most likely loose, becos both hv to ”surge” in their performance.

  33. No,Henry, you arent mad. France cant win with players lit aong themseves, and an axe to grind with their coach who is the mother of pains. I too take a draw.

At HT, Argentina is leading S Korea with 2 goals scored by the Asians, and Messi messied & messed up what was supposed to be another goal for the Args. Hope Arg will score 1 more goal and my total investment of $140 wd have yielded me $264 (inclusive of a $50 win from the same SHC butty who won $20 fr me, taking German in that G-Aust natch, This time he bets that Maradona will be fielded in a Korean shirt) whjatever the results may be in the other matches.

Think the next 2 games will be close affairs…….either a 1 goal scoreline or draws. Let’s see how it pans out.

  34. This morning, I saw the storm coming, and bet with my korean friends that S Korea will win or draw tonight’s game.

Then, later this afternoon, I took a similar bet that South Korea will win over Argentina.

Well, the results are out. Now I am not going to be able to afford lunch tomorrow.

    Terence Seah

  35. The scoreline Argentina 4, S Korea 1 flatters the Latin Americans. G Higuain scored a hattrick and was judged Man of the Match but was he good enough?

Other than the first goal which was good, his 2nd and 3rd were really a story of “at the right place at the right time”. Even Lisa-O in her 12″ heels cd hv easily back-heel and put the ball into the net. The 3rd was scored with a simple header, with the Korean goalie out of position. If I were maradona, their manager, I wd hv started Aquero ahead of Higuain.

So, My prediction of 3-1, which wd hv won me $214-$20 was lost by a whisker altho I do make $30 from mu butty ($50-$20) but knowing how addicted he is to WC betting, he’s not going to play dead but will come to offer more money to me, hehe………

    ??????? ??????? ?????????Nigeria????, ??????????waterloo)?

  36. So far for 2day i hv already made $130 ($270-$140) from Spools, See, the S-league fellas are all hooked to the WC so they might just want to get over with their own match quickly. With that in mind, I went for Young Lions to win by a solitary goal and they did,

So whether or not my small bets on a 2-0 win for Nigeria (which I now see as very stupid cos N hv no in-form scorers – 1-0 is more realistic) and a Draw-Nigeria for the Doubles, come true, i am quite happy and can retire liao.

Those who hv watched the WC this far can really see that the jabulani ball carries a silly bounce. For out-firld, it’d hard to chase the bouncing ball and keep it in play.

The nightmare for goalies wont be over till the ball is deflated after this 2010 WC. The latest victim was the S Korean goalie who has Higuain’s header (Arg’s 2nd goal) adequately covered but bcos of the cursed bounce, the ball went higher than his hands’ reach.

However, so far, the refereeing standard has been higher than average, probably the best i have seen. Hope it’s kept up.

  37. England shd comfortably beat Algeria today (altho the latter edged Egypt, African champions, out of the WC finals).

Germany shd win but dont bet it will be the Australia history repaetd on Serbia, a team i like for reasons i dunno.

USA vs Slovenia looks tight and this is the match I am waiting for my butty to offer a bet to me, hehehe……..the noti smsed me while I was deep asleep at 4.30 this morning, to say how angry he was that Maradona was dancing with madonna and refused to play for Argentina, making him look like a banana to offer me a bet so salah so much so he’s doubting his own kepala…………

  38. G’Aftnn All. TaikorTim, glad U r doing ok.
Question. ”wht has a Freaky night party to do with football betting?”. Plenty, if U believe tht it’s not coincidence. So to be safe, put on my Freaky hat.

Germany v Serbia. Germany wins, nothing to bet as the betting odds are ”ugly”
    I’m $15- @$3.80 for Slovenia v USA.
    I’m $15- @$12.00 for Algeria v England.
    I’m $15- @$2.00( recd 1.5 goals) for Algeria v England.

My Acct Bal as of last bet = plus $105-
If above bets r not freaky enuff, ntg else will…..hahaha

  39. Good morning Henry-Y, hope you didnt freak out last nite spamgled with spiders.

Glad you are very deep on the positive with your investments. Yes, i am ok. Invested only $30 last nite on a Double, with England winning and the USA-Slovenia match a draw. The result was Draw-Draw so I lost.

Was at somewhere and managed to watch Podolski’s penalty kick saved by the Serbia goalie. So, in a sense, my touting Serbia as a team to watch has been vindicated.

Thus far, seems like only the Latin American teams live up to expectations. Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay are all doing ok and will be contenders for the Cup. Despite 1 loss, germny cant be written off, Spain will also be there, notwithstanding the earlier set-back.

I certainly cant see england going very far. They can play well at club level bcos of other nationalities playing alongside but together, they lack the bite (a dearth of strikers) and the never-say-die spirit, both a toast and a boast of the 2 Koreas.

Surpsingly, Africa has caved in and I can only hope that at least 1 of the countries in there will pick themselves up in the remaining matches.

Btw, when did you last see ah beng, sh seng or teacher ms tan? Or professor thamby?

Ah loong son, too, is very angry bcos he cant find them as well. yes, many have lost very badly in this WC…with sure-win teams like Germany, spain, France losing and England digging holes with their toes.

Many social ills wll surface soon. We, the ah peks and ah umms, do be careful as we might be the targets of muggers or worst, the targets of unsolicited loves from the young, sexy, pretty or handsome……….

  40. Hi TaikorTim #39 G’day. Last Night’s results quite freaky. Big WhoHar in cyberspace. Screams of ”WHT HV THE WC BECOME”I still think tht it has alot to do with the referee as the Chief Justice meting out cards at their sole prerogative! v sad!!
Ok Will miss today’s betting as no time to look at it. Hope U give us some tips Tai-Kor Tim. Ciao Henry

  41. Yes, Henry-Y, they (the freaky results) were but expect more surprises since the ball is not only round butalso a jabulani ??????ball.

Last nite’s results were generally expected. I am waiting for my SHC butty to offer me another bet, He has clawed back from a $30 loss to $10 in the red, a feat he must now be celebrating soaking up the water at orchard canal, wearing his red bikinis.

The team familiar to most ah peks and ah umms must be England, the team I found disenchanting when Capello named his selection. I am totally with Gary Armstrong in his Sunday Times analysis today.

England has ghost of a chance to make the last 16 (as at now, USA and Slovenia call the shots) if they put David James or even Joe Hart in goal but nvr R Green again.

Wayne Rooney is not quite in the bin yet but he needs an effective co-striker who can complement his darting raids. Too late to bring in Darren Bent but Defoe, tho short, is not short of strength, or the eissen tower P Crouch but nvr nvr ??? Emile Heskey. Capello must make do with what he has so cleverly chosen for the midfield and defence, persistently putting big names ahead of players with form and pride wearing the England shirt for the 1st time.

Every team in Gp F will fight very hard 2nite ast they are all even on points. Altho I liked Paraguay at the start of WC, but having watched them played like a prowling tiger in the 1st half and as a purring pussy in the 2nd, vs Italy, they might find Slovakia a tough nut to crack.

Italy has a lot of hype but what abt heart? New Zealand, rugby kingpins, hv the ambition to be pin-up boys for this tournament and will rough Italy up in every possible way.

Neither is Brazil vs Ivory Coast a samba stroll altho they hv an edge in total team quality.

My gout attack has caused me a lot of pain so i am thinking of passing you some of my pain with the following prediction :

Italy and Brazil to win their respective matches, probably with more toyal goals scored than in earlier matches (after getting used to the naughty jabulani ball) but only just. Paraguay is capable of a win but they will definitely wont lose………….

    ??????????????- ????? – ??????

  42. Half-timeand not unexpectedly, Paraguay are leading Slovakia by 1 goal but the pussy in these fellas began to show after scoring. I can only hope each team kicks in 1 goal each in the 2nd half. Paraguay 2, Slovakia 1 is my score.

Funnily, I think Brazil will draw with Ivory Coast. The hunch just descends on me………..

Btw, Spiderman Henry, good to read how much you enjoyed the nite with fellow SHCians like Pauline-H and Karen-T who have both written.

  43. Hi TaikorTim #42. yes, but butty’s hot funds hv been flushing in n out of my acct. No wonder some economies r trying to impose capital controls hahaha ( jest joking).
Tim, yr call of a brazil win earlier N yr latest call for draw betrays uncertainty, I dont blame U. Not an easy call. Ivory C. hv good talents too, dont forget Drogba. Happy watching!

  44. Yes, i hv changed my mind on the Brazil match – a draw – which I might pout later as an undoing. Even as I type now, Italy & NZ are in the last 3 minutes of an exciting 1st half draw. I feel that the Kiwis had been harshly adjudged to hv fouled, resulting in the penalty which Italy converted.

Obviously, the commentator (who also brought latest snippets of a big resignationin the French Football fed………the French are sadly making the wrong news all the time) is partial. He believes that the Kiwis wont hv the legs to take on the Romans in the 2nd half. But if the southerners hv the same All Blacks blood and fighting spirit, they might prevail, even emerge as the victors.

Haha, our common butty doesnt seem to be tired of offering me bets too good to refuse. Hv just made another $20 from him when Paraguay routed Slovakia. He must hv mistaken Slovakia as Yugoslavakia but in fairness, Slovakia was 1 of the higher scoring teams in the quali, was top of the table with Slovenia [laying 2nd fiddle. Then, they scored 22 goals.

Going to sleep since my half time of a draw (o-o) is not quite right (1-1).

  45. We are nearing the end of the first round and into the last 16s. I dont expect too many shocks or surprises herefrom.

The in-form teams shd do well which means I predict Spain and Chile to win (or at very worst, draw) and quietly fancy a long-shot win for N Korea over, yes, Portugal if they can maintain the same doggedness when they played Brazil. See, “Dear Leader”‘s men trained with coconuts and so had no problem handling – more correctly – kickering a jabulani.

So far, what has gone wrong with big names falling like bowling pins? Ego. You need a firm manager/coach who also carries a charisma to rein in the players b4 he can work out a play strategy which the players will adhere to.

I can think of 2 such rare breed managers but alas, they are both managing clubs. Players listen and respect Jose Mourinho and Alex Ferguson.

Among the elite team managers at this WC, I think Dunga (Brazil) and J Lowe(Germany), and perhaps the maverick Maradona (Argebtina) command some respect from their charges.

The lesser lights have a better reason to play well cos it’s a chance to show their skill for the right to a signing for clubs in Europe which can afford to pay them much more as professionals.

Perhaps, only the Koreas show pride in donning their respective national colors. If they dont make it into the last 16s or win the Cup, certainly, it’s not for want of effort or trying. Still, they have already won fans’ hearts.

  46. G’day. four games today
    10pm Grp A FRA v RSA / MEX v URU
    2.30am Grp B GRE v ARG / NIG v SKO

    Only betting 1 game tonight.
    I’m $60- @$1.95 for S Korea v Nigeria. Happy Watching!

  47. It’s a sorry sight to watch France play their last match vs S Africa with the latter leading 1-0 into the 30th minute due to another howler by the French goalie. They tried harder this time but still fluffed their chances. With their No. 8 sent off for what appeared to be a rough but not unorthodox challenge in a robust game, France can spend the next 4 years training which, I am told, will feature Spore as her Foreign Talent Scheme shd also come to fruition by then.

I hv my investment on a 1-0 s Africa win and hope it stays this way.

Think Nigeria and S Korea will draw their match and even with 7 2nd tier players, Argentina shd pack too much power for Greece to kicker.

(And shit, S Africa had just secord their 2nd goal……………KELONG ! go sleep liao)

  48. Invested in 2 matches – each $30 – and got back $150 when Korea-Nigeria and Argentina won in the “Doubles”. Think the matches are more tricky today and will wait for the hunch to come after meeting KPMG fellas – if they’re stubborn, it means the underdogs will surprise.

Life is so fragile. he was the 2nd best school sprinter in my year, versatile in all rugby positions, big strong and like the Std Chtd Bank jaga, friendly – everyone who knows him will forever cherish his true sincere and unconditional friendship.

And there he was asleep in the long box, skin wrapping flesh and was almost incognito. # deep bows, eyes moistening…..

  49. This far, the WC has been kind to me. Put $30 each in 3 investments. Won all and got back a dollar short of $400.

On current for, Uruguay is a better team than S Korea but the Kimchimen shd hv won if………..

Yes, many opportunities are won or lost bcos the big IF isnt at work.

So if the koreans had curled in the beautiful free-kick instead of hitting the upright and bounced off harmlessly, they might hv just hanged on in the next 80 odd minutes to win.

Lee, famed in the last WC, shd hv played in goal. As it were, his understudy dived at a low cross which my class goalie in the varsity (who was also at the club to watch) now weighing a beefy 120 kg said he cd hv caught or push it away in his present agility. I agreed.

Quite obviously, S Korea lacked self-belief and luck. They shd hv scored and took the tie into extra time esp when Uru’s manager adopted soak-n-absorb strategy when they are nvr strong in defence.

So, after the Koreans had equalised with 10 mins left, they wok up and attacked, and i said to my butties, they will score, and they did. Then fell back into defending with MB Lee’s men crestfallen. Brave Asians…….they hv ecery right to hold their heads high.

@nite’s matches. Both Germany & England are shaken with erractic 1st round showings so it’s gonna be a flip of the coin.

Mexico is spirited but they’re up against a technically more superior Arg which hadnt been playing too badly. hard to see them beat Diego Maddona’s men.

No hunch yet. May feel it later after a day’s picnic with the dogs.

  50. I went awol for a while due to my blog commitments on http://www.7naps.com and http://www.starstatzracing.blogspot.com. DC aka Daniel Chan requested my contribution to SHC website to spice up the debates. Here’s my take on tonight’s games…Germany and England to draw after 90 mins …big bet recommended at odds of 2.80….token bet recommended for draw-draw at odds of 4.00. Sorry to disappoint England fans(DC is one of them) but Germany likely to score 1st and chance for Home-Draw at 11.00(slight chance only). Why is England or Germany not likely to win in 90 mins. Spore Pools is willing to offer you 60 cents more to entice you to take either team to win in 90 mins…ie at odds of $2.60.The last time the 0-0 draw was this low was during Brazil- Portugal game at 6.00. Today the odds are at 5.50 for 0-0 or 1-1. It’s a toss up on who will go through after 90 mins and I have a dilemma …my heart says England but my head says Germany…it does not matter if I collect my meagre(small bet only) winnings after the draw at 90mins as my pocket wins

Argentina vs Mexico game not likely to be upset ie either draw or Mexico to win. Argentina to win but odds not appetising at 1.43. The better bet is HOME-HOME AT 2.10 SMALL BET. Likely result one goal margin of victory at 1-0 or 2-1 at odds of 6.00 but not recommended as bets. For the other market better to give one ball than to eat.Possibility of other result being 2 goal margin better than upset of draw or Mexico win. Sorry to post so late …will try to post earlier next time.

This will be benchmark intro to my credentials as a wannabe pundit for World Cup. I will be happy to get one match correct from these 2 matches

  51. Congrats to DC for his 5 goal consolation prediction…here’s a ditty to console the losers and amuse the non-bettors on the sidelines…lucky my posting was late so nobody lost money on my advice. Only my pride was lost! I cannot claim credit if the favourite Argentina wins or if the the result is Draw-Home. I will only claim credit for getting one match right out of two if the result is Home Home for the Argentina vs Mexico game.

I can only fall back on my reputation on the fact that I predicted more matches right in the early rounds with Tim Liu , Daniel Chan as my witness in our conversations. I had given in general as well to both of them advice that the underdogs will make better bets as they won eventually won 2 ion 3 matches and even when the favourites won the other market ensured that punters who backed these favourites lost money when they won by one goal margin. My track record for predicting the last 4 matches of the 2006 World Cup was also witnessed by Maggie Teo and for those who doubt these claims I still have photostats of the winning coupons.

This World Cup ios like WWII France surrendered… England was left alone against Germany…the U.S. in at the last minute…Italy was irrelevant ….and no one saw Japan coming! HA HA HA!

  52. With $30 on Vittek as the last scorer, it was $270-$140,,,,not bad but the icing came with my SHC butty offering me $20 to take Brazil to win. Gladly accepted it and now waiting for another early Xmas koala bear from him for today’s matches.

See, we do have a philanthropist in our midst. Will keep the $ and take him to see a psychiatrist after the WC, hehe……

  53. Hi Patrick K # 51,

The analogy is really good, esp. the punchline – so dramatic! :) May i ask if it’s original? Tks.

  54. Sorry to disappoint you it is not an original piece. Sent to me by one of my racing(same circle also interested in soccer) friends.. I hope to hear from the ladies(versus us men.) or the ones who bet against the innocent non – bettors to see who knows more(or just plain flukeshot lucky). Please name your team to win the World Cup. State your reasons if any but only allowed one choice and let’s await the outcome with extra excitement for SHC bragging rights. As a guide here are the odds to help you to make a final decision….(MY ADVICE…STCK TO ONE OF THE TOP 5 FAVOURITES BUT I AM INCLINED TO ELIMINATE HOLLAND AS WELL)
    BRAZIL …3.15
    SPAIN …3.70
    ARGENTINA …3.90
    GERMANY…5.50
    HOLLAND…7.50
    URUGUAY…18.00
    GHANA…45.00
    PARAGUAY…45.00
FOR BRAGGING RIGHTS ONLY…ENTRIES CLOSE BEFORE THE KICK-OFF OF THE THE NEXT MATCH…MY PICK IS GERMANY BUT THEY WILL HAVE TO OVERCOME ARGENTINA 1ST BUT HERE’S A TIP FOR BETTORS…ARGENTINA IS NOT LIKELY TO OVERCOME GERMANY WITHIN 90 MINS SO I SUGGEST TO EAT ON THE UNOFFICIAL MARKET AND ON THE SPORE POOLS I WILL DECIDE LATER ON ON DRAW OR GERMANY TO WIN. THE REASON …I BELIEVE THEY HAD BETTER PREP ON THE JABULANI BALL AND PREVIOUS LOSERS HAVE DONE WELL…ENGLAND(WHO WERE VERY POOR) CERTAINLY MADE THEM LOOK GOOD ALTHOUGH THEY MAY NOT HAVE THE FLAIR OF SOUTH AMERICAN TEAMS BUT THEY HAVE A GOOD COACH AND A WELL BALANCED TEAMS. DC HAD EARLIER PUT A BET ON THEM AT 10.OO TO 1 ODDS MUCH EARLIER…iF THET CROSS THE ARGENTINIAN HURDLE THEY WIIL DEFINITELY BE IN THE FINALS! FOOTNOTE ARGENTINA HAS BEATEN GERMANY 1-0 IN A FRIENDLY THIS YEAR. GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!

  55. It will be close calls into the quarter finals. I think Brazil is the team too beat.

Meanwhile, santa claus, stop playing with bras in brastilava? Come offer me your exciting irresistible bets like betting that Mr Dunga will plant Kaka’s head with bunga to help make him look as pretty as papaya and curls his shot like banana?

  56. Hi Tim,

Now, it’s quarter-finals time. Let’s have a small bet. Ijust took someone on Brazil:Holland. Watch out your sms.

    Terence Seah

  57. Thank you Terence.

I had called Brazil the team to beat but she was unceremoniously dumped by Holland, latter rejuvenated after an own-goal in the 2nd half (what Henry-Y had predicted very early is true) and defended stoutly after Sneider floated in a free kick which took the wind & sambal out of the 10-men Samba Kings.

My irrepressible butty’s irresistible bet – he took Brazil to win – saved my day. I changed by investment direction and thank you butty for yr 7000, and turned losses to winnings from the Spools.

What’s next for the day : you take Paraguay to do a belly bella on Spain?

  58. There’s no short of controversies in this 2010 world cup. Somebody said tht its just a true state of the corrupt nature of man.
If the rumour mills is to be believed, then it’s 1998 all over again. Argentina to beat Germany but loose to Holland in the finals. It’s all fixed they say!. ”This time Argentina shud reap some $millions, so did Brazil”.

They say The question is how long can FIFA play God. The English r getting annoyed, very annoyed. It just take one important player who refused to play ”this game” for it to unravel.

So it’s plain tht FIFA will introduce technology by 2014 otherwise FIFA’s existence will be in doubt, when opportunist take the cue to start rebellions across the universe.

well done TaikorTim, U r hving positive $results, so did I (small plus). I will keep it this way, so the positive feelings will last for four years! hehehe

  59. The odds for Holland have plummeted to 3.00. Does that mean Holland is better than either Spain ,Argentina or Germany. It merely reflects their easier passage to the finals (similar to Brazil before their exit). I still believe the winner of the World Cup will come from the tougher group. I had earlier envisaged a Brazil Germany Final but the exit puts a damper on my theory of a European/South American Final. Never mind the theories let’s make some money together. Last night’s results further confirmed my theory to DC and TL that this is a WC for underdogs to line the bookies’ pockets. I believe that whoever gets through on the Germany vs Argentina game the result will be that Argentina will not win in 90 mins so those taking the favourites will lose on the quarter(Argentina giving level and half) ball handicap in the Asian market. I hope my pick Germany gets through for DC’s theory on an all European Final. For the 2nd game just to break the underdog pattern so as not to make it a cleansweep! For the Spain game I would recommend to take Spain on the one ball handicap ie that Spain will win by at least a 2 goal margin. My reason is that the Blue Samurais(Japan) stretched Paraguay to the point of exhaustion both physically and mentally as well. I believe that Paraguay will be a spent force and close to running on empty to put up much of a fight.
For the Pools market I recommend to take Draw (medium bet) and a token bet on Draw-Draw. For the Spain game I recommend a big bet on Spain on the 1.5 goals currently at 2.17 and Draw-Spain win at 3.80 . Those who fancy the odds Spain – Spain at 2.00 can be considered as an alternate.

The odds on the Asian market are 2 face(take favourites or go against them) while the Pools market is 3 face.(win/draw/lose) . I recommend to take the underdogs for the Argentina vs Germany game and the favourites for the Spain vs Paraguay game.

Henry Yip I do miss your input for the remaining games …do share your opinions. Tim you mentioned 7000 in your last post #58 ie was it SID $7000 ? DC any thoughts for the forthcoming games? I expect a low goal score on the ARG/GERM game and plently of goals for the SPA/PARA game.

Have fun and don’t forget to cash in and hope my quack pundit advice helps!

  60. Hi Patrick #60. It’s a joy seeing U here expressing yrself. Keep it going mate!. Send warmest regards to Betty. cheers.

  61. Any one meeting up in a pub for tonight’s early game. Does anybody know where the Germans hangout. Is it at Suntec in a German Pub behind Pan Pacific Hotel ? Feeling like soaking in Group atmosphere instead of watching at home as usual. Ronald Wie have you been following the WC? Any place we can gatecrash and watch in a group?

  62. with ;ess than 10 minutes to go and Germany leading Arg 3-0, I can happily go sleep liao…….happy for Patrick-K you too with yr predictions right. Haha, 7000 cents only lah but still it’s 7000 opportunities at the wishing well………….

  63. My tip together with DC’s bet of $100(DC will collect $1000 and I will get a lunch treat for all my earlier World Cup advice) for Germany is still on course but Spain will be a tough nut to crack. I was right(underdog prevailed) in the Asian market for the Argentina Vs Germany game but got it wrong on the Pools market.
The odds for the 1.5 goals handicap for the Spain game is now $2.00 so it is an indication where the smart money is going. The odds for Spain -Spain for the half -time /full time have dropped to $1.95 and looks like the likely result. Fortunately for me my main bet on the 1.5 handicap looks like a good bet but my draw-Spain coupon looks hard to collect at 3.8 odds(token bet). For the Asian market at one ball handicap Spain now looks like a shoo in!

This post was sent just before kick-off of 2nd game

  64. The shoo-in barely made it for a 1-0 victory for the Asian market which is considered a draw. I invested $10(small bet )on Spain at 1.5 handicap and lost but my $5 bet on Draw-Spain struggled to cross the finish line for a return of $19(3.8 odds). I read in earlier posts that no European team has ever won a World Cup in a South American city which is true and Brazil (once)are the only South American team to win in Europe-Sweden in 1958 and once in Asia in 2002. Since Africa is a neutral continent so the Europe vs South American team theory is invalidated? Let’s see if I can get more matches correct and I will try my best to post early. Basically I still stand by Germany entering the final and it would be interesting if Spain or Germany emerge favourites for the forthcoming game. For the HOLLAND GAME I expect Holland to get through to the final but have a suspicious feeling they may need more than 90 mins to get through thereby supporting the underdog theory which has dogged this year’s World Cup matches from the start of the Tournament. I hope other members weigh in with their different predictions on the outcome of the 4 remaining matches and state their positions before the start of matches.

I understand it is tough and a thankless task to be a tipster…get one match wrong and all the guns will come out blazing. Nobody will thank you for getting a couple of matches right. Thankfully my strike rate is at worse 50% but I believe I am shading it especially if you take into consideration my advice that underdogs are the better bet this year and I do hope it is a Germany vs Holland Final so i can take the likely underdogs Germany again! In private 2 or 3 SHC members will know if I am correct more often than not based on sms and private conversations but I do admit this is a tough World Cup to make money on the Singapore Pools 3 face outcomes unless you support all the underdogs blindly.

  65. My dear Khoo Khoo. I picked Germany to win long before we started this WC chat. It was a handsome 10 to 1 odds then. It is still early whether I will collect 1000 bucks. If I were to buy u a lunch when I won, it would be for old time sake, and not because of your so-called advice. I give credit when credit is due but not this time. NICE TRY anyway.

  66. I never at any time alluded or stated that your choice of bet on Germany to win the World Cup was because of me.Just to set the record straight you made the bet and then consulted me and I encouraged you and confirmed that it was a good bet. If you know my position I had earlier in the SHC forum recommended to go against England and go against Argentina where Germany was concerned. I even stated the reasons why I fancied Germany and definitely not one iota of these reasons can be attributed to have come from you at all in case you may claim that I took Germany because of your advice. Ha Ha Ha..what a laugh!

Did I did I not give u general advice to take the underdogs from the start of the tournament …please answer unequivocally “YES” or “NO”. Did I or did I not predict the 3 total goals correct in the Argentina vs Mexico game when you took a 4-5 total goals tally. Did I or did I not predict a couple of earlier matches correctly to you . Did i or did I not specifically tell you to go against the favourites in The Brazil vs Holland game and the Uruguay vs Ghana game. Whatever your reply you can stuff your lunch offer(with stipulations) as you do not appreciate my input. By the way my credibility is substantiated by what is posted in the forum. You may have won the odd longshot bet but have have you ever tipped any match correctly before the start of matches in the SHC forum…I rest my case. For your sake I hope Germany loses and you don’t collect on your bet ha ha ha. Anyway I shall tip openly the next 4 matches. If you think you are a better tipster than myself please show SHC members how good your bets are by telling us your predictions before the start of matches. If you do not take up this offer I challnge your credibility as a good judge of World Cup soccer. It is easy for you to criticise when you have no opinion expressed openly for all of us to read in the forum. Anybody can be wise after the event. At least in the forum I have a 50% track record on the Pools betting system and I have an almost perfect record on the Asian odds format. what track record have you established? Why do u keep sending sms to me asking for tips on horses and the World Cup when you don’t appreciate my input…is it for comparison purposes. You even sent me an sms QUOTE ” WHEN YOU ARE RIGHT YOU GET PEANUTS. WHEN I AM RIGHT I GET BIG STEAK . SO MY ONE RIGHT IS BETTER THAN YOUR 5 OR 6 RIGHT.” ‘ UNQUOTE…Please tell me which 5 or 6 right you were refering to? Maybe my advice is so vague that you lost count? Did you or did you not send me this sms? Or was it perhaps I quoted you in the wrong context…please clarify . I do not need your cheap lunch to vindicate the standard of my work since obviously you never appreciated my work in both horse racing and World Cup Soccer. I now make it official… will you stop begging me for tips and stop sending any sms to me on either subject.

  67. My dear Khoo Khoo friend,

WHY are we shooting each other here ? BECAUSE I refused to endorse your self-proclaimed expertise and punctured your self-inflated ego.
ADVICE, CONSULT, COUNSEL – WHO qualifies you to use such words on yourself ???
If simply uttering something makes one an adviser, then the whole Singapore will be crawling with advisers, isn’t it?

I talk to at least 10 people each day about the world cup – at home, in my workplace, coffee shop, Pools outlets and yes via sms and email. DO I CALL any of them advisers? DO I thank them for their advice? DO I give them ang pow?
Of course not. Everybody is simply entitled to his opinion. Patrick Khoo is no exception.

If you strongly believe in what you predict to be, put your money where your mouth is. Others need not follow.
If you want food and drinks, I can buy something for you and more, regardless of Germany WIN or LOSE.
If you want me to acknowledge you as an adviser, point a gun at my head.

I have an advice for you though – If you crave for worshippers, try the IMH – you are bound to find someone who embraces what you are doing.

    PERIOD.

  68. You have chosen to ignore all my questions on the points I have raised.so I will assume they are all true unless u deny you sent the sms etc that I never gave you a single winning tip etc. Or perhaps are you claiming all the input i gave you were all wrong. Do not avoid the issues be a MAN and deny them if you sincerely believe in your truth or perhaps you want us to believe that I never offered any advice at all or that all the advice given were wrong. Perhaps you would like to convince the SHC audience that it was you who advised me that Germany would win the World Cup. I do put my money where my mouth is and bet on a personal level but do I have to document or account what I bet to you. After all the input I gave you I do find that you are an ungrateful person with a short memory. You claim you are making tons of money on the World Cup…how come it is always after the results are out(to be fair to you I acknowledge that u did win on the 5 goals result for the England West Germany game as only a cover bet(your investments were heavy and that results salvaged your other losses for that match but overall managing a small profit. If you are winning that much as you have claimed please don’t be shy and share with us your money making tips and thoughts before kick off time. It is the same as your claim on lucky winning numbers for horses…always after the race is over but not before…P.S. …don’t forget to answer the questions or deny that such things have transpired between us! By the way I am not interested in your cheapo food and drinks offer as the aftertaste might be too bitter for me to digest. I would suggest you salivate the food yourself.
I am chewing your gut out not because of your non endorsement but because you have profited from my advice both from World Cup and Horse racing and reading my blog and pretend that nothing good has come out from my imput. Why is it that you keep sending SMSs to me after I have told you not to bother me on both subjects…horse racing and soccer…If you are lonely and yearn for male company I can recommend you the place to go to since you are obviously not interested in my advice at all(as you have claimed).

  69. The World Cup is still alive. Everybody is encourged to participate. Please enjoy yourself. Tonight, the game is just too tough. I have decided not to bet. Ball is oval today.

    Terence Seah

  70. Yes, it’s difficult to predict the outcome of tonite’s Germany-Spain final so much so that santa clause has decided to give his reindeers an early off, shutter his windows and close shop.

The oracle octopus has picked Spain and i see in my crystalball that David Villa will score for Spain (but do note that the ball had slipped out of my pocket and then sat btwn my thighs when i read it).

So, I invested small – $40 in 3 combinations but for better odds, paying in the range of abt 7-14 times. Am quietly confident that there will be a payout for me.

  71. Thanks TS for reopening this post. For those who missed it I tipped my SHC email list the Draw-Holland and Holland to win bet correctly last night.(wrong on total goals) For the full report on both semi-final games do visit my blog at http://www.starstatzracing.blogspot.com

It’s too late to bet at normal outlets but you can visit the live betting outlets if you believe in what I am tipping(caveat emptor clause applies).

Even though Spain are favourites in some markets I will stake my reputation that Spain will not win in 90 mins. The Asian market has shifted from level ball to quarter ball(ie level and half ball handicap but wiining $2.10 for Spain and only $1.80 for a German win. This is a sign that bookies are trying to entice and cajole the punter to put their money on a Spain win in 90 mins which I strongly suggest that this will not happen.

My recommendation is to take a big bet on Germany to qualify for the finals at $1.80 (not the same as Germany to win in 90 mins at $2.30(…Bet type 13 and match 3408 on Pools coupon).
Medium bet on Draw at 90 mins at $3.40
Small bet on Draw-Draw for the HT/FT at $5.50
Token $5 bet on 0 goals at 9-1 odds
    Token $5 bet(optional) on 1-1 result at 7-1 odds

In summary I expect a draw at 90 mins and Germany to win after that(possible Germany may win in 90 mins). For detailed reasons(includes rumour that Mani the Parakeet got hauled up by CPIB) please visit my blog. For some tipsters they are only wise after the event and broadcast to those ewho believe. Win or lose my investments tonight are free after collecting on last night

  72. Dear Thread/Post Owner,
Dun know what the “who-har” and the “fuss” about – me can’t even read beyond three sentences of tedious grummpyyy long posts, can’t be bothered with it either……..
Have not been following the games since day one …. only watch the last two matches …. doesn’t give a sh*t who wins or got sent to the coal mines either …
What predictions, what forecast??? There is no science in this, only pure art ….. hence it is called “gampaling” or “too-poh”.
If you want to be on the SURE-WIN position, go be a legalised poookkiee like SIN-GAP-POR Poooopppee.
Have said the above, since this thread is about Fooopbooll, just want to add my peace of say:
Since, I will be watching this SPAIN boop GERMANY or GERMANY Boop SPAIN early into the weewee morning hours, my take is on SPAIN winning the game at 2-1.
I have only ONE Reason why?
The Germany team are all very young pprickkks – think that they will breakdown under the pressure on their shoulders …. if the 1st half is a goaless half.
No offence intended or directed at any over-the-hill beings …. jus fcukinking enjoy this last few games, YA? YA!
    Cheers,
    IL

  73. Dear Ivan # 73 Is there a need for Foul or such colourful language? …despite that I still respect your take on Spain…you have the you know what(jabulani) to come out and say so before and not after the match. I wonder what happened to all the rest …must be busy zzzzzz as today is working day . Those who did not have the JABALUNI to comment before the match starts can go fly a kite! If you want to have the pleasure of shooting at either of the 2 sitting ducks do it in the next 90 mins. Any supporter for Germany to win in 90 mins will complete the set. In the meantime I will provide the comic relief and relieve the tension and provide cheap entertainment to confuse you further in case you are sitting on the fence and have not decided. Speak now or forever hold your peace(or is it piece?…getting senile with my spelling. The SHC post was abridged version …for long winded post just look at my blog.

WHO WILL WIN THIS YEAR’S FOOTBALL WORLD CUP ?

The world cup is already determined by the numbers….

    1. Brazil won the World Cup in 1994; before that they also won in 1970. Adding 1970 + 1994= 3964

    2. Argentina won its last World Cup in 1986; before that they also won in 1978. Adding 1978 + 1986= 3964

    3. Germany won its last World Cup in 1990; before that they also won in 1974. Adding 1974 + 1990= 3964

    4. Brazil also won the World Cup in 2002; before that they also won in 1962. Adding 1962+ 2002= 3964

    5. Therefore if you want to know what nation is going to win the World Cup in 2010, you only have to subtract 2010 from the magic number that we have determined: 3964.
3964 minus 2010 = 1954… In 1954 the World Cup was won by Germany!!!

Not at all scientific… but pretty interesting…….!!

LET’S WAIT & WATCH…… !!(not original lah…sent by country cousin from across the causeway)

  74. I am on course for a 4 coupon pay out and the live betting
“bolah Jalan ” at Paradiz Centre vindicates my position so far. This match could be labelled “Much Ado About Nothing or perhaps if I am wrong a tale of 2 halves. I think it will eventually be called a boring game which springs to life only after 90 mins when the gloves are off.If I am right and the odds for a Zero goal result at 90mins is down to $3.00 from a high of $9.00 and a 1-1 draw is now at $6.00.Do the odds makers have a whiff of the likely result or not? Only one decent shot at goal in the 1st half at 31 mins in what was described as a smart save…no yellow cards and a handful of corners with both goalkeepers taking a siesta. If you listen to the commentary you heard words like cagey quiet, nothing of relevance , not quite the pass required, no golden chances so far, patient game, no rush,no dash, no cut and thrust, tight and tense game. The Spanish had the better of the possession in the 1st half setting the stage for a surge in Spanish betting support in the 2nd half which will come to nought(pardon the pun). I might read the signals as horibbly wrong but I remain stedfast in my belief .

There has been some improvement as I type this sentence on the 65 mins mark with half an hour to go. If there are no yellow cards issued as the match continues it is a clear sign I will be spot on tonight or be prepared for a big fall and egg on the face. I predict Torres will come on either after 90 mins or from the 80 mins mark onwards.

Can i collect on all 4 coupons? Ces’t La Vie

  75. It’s 4 a.m. and ho sei liao. Spain 1-0 scored by carles Puyol (who shd hv scored in the 1st half)………….Abt 17 mins left.

  76. It’s a Spain-Holland final on Sunday. Wd you believe it. both teams are playing to win the WC for the 1st time, and Spain reaching the Final for the first time ever.

Germany, with a very young team, will hv a bright future.

$129 – $40 = $89, not too bad a reward for keeping sleep at bay till now so going to sleep liao.

  77. Spain eliminated the market favourite Germany and so the Paul th octopus was spot-on again. It’s amazing that an 8-legged crustacean seems to know more than most of us with 2 legs.

If Germany can shake off their disappointment (and lethargy which was in abundance in the semi with Spain, esp in the 2nd 45 minutes) and play their normal fleet-footed counter-attacking game, they shd win in the 3rd place playoff with Uruguay who still hv a lot of fight left.

The pre-tournament favourites – ABG – are all out leaving the 2nd best to greet the judges for the coveted Cup and as the world’s No. 1 soccer nation.

I thot Japan played above their weight. If Honda’s direct hit at goal didnt take an evil swerve to the left, with the Paragiuan goalie beaten, it wd hv been 1-0, taking them into the Q-finals and a possible date with Holland in the Final.

The Holland-Spain final will be tricky. i have already picked my “winner” – a name i actually had in mind since the last week of May but then debated myself off to commit.

I like Holland. Spain’s David villa’s form appeared to hv tapered off and Torres has yet to find his slick touches.

Holland have several prolific in-form strikers altho their defence leaks

think it’ll be a tight finish with the outcome determined in the full-tie play of 90 minutes, with a solitary goal separating them. A high 3-2 scoreline, which shd pay well, is not unlikely but pls pls, invest for fun……..dont pawn yr wife/gf for that.

this far, the WC has been very rewarding to me. Hv not had a good strike rate but bcos I went for “outsiders”, the returns in monetary term hv been good……..into tens of thousands considering that i use cents to measure them.

Wake up Santa Claus. You can hide but you cant run away and definitely yr huge propensity to offer me easy winnings must continue………….

    ????????? – ???2010?????????????

  78. The whole world await in bated breath for Paul the orcale octopus to pick this 2010 WC’s winner. Ahead of this, i have named Holland, the underdogs, to win.

Having called Paul a crustacean when it is an unmistakable mollusc, I am odds-on for a loss. But i am not abt to waver from my obstinacy. My last 4 finishing is thus :-

    Holland-Spain-Uruguay-Germany.

If Spools were to offer a bet to place the finishing order for the last 4, my said combination shd pay thumping dividends………but thump me not for thinking that an octopus carries a soft shell.

  79. Whole World Waiting? No lah! Only SFican waiting lah!!

CC the boey-chia shrimp (not KK d dogs) says:

    Spain-Holland-Germany-Uruguay

And to put money where the mouth (Kunk) is……
Will tam-baa SGD1000 …… not thousand cents, it’s DOLLARS on SPAIN taking the cup home ……. for the 1st time.

And the score ….. will be bbly basttardly trickyyyy
Either a ONE goaler lampa win ….
Or will be like Germany poop Argentina type of scenario ……… a 1st time in the FINALS too.

Happy kinkying everyone …. last two games left … So fcukkyying enjoy it lah!!

    IL
(y foul or colourful lingo …. HOI! it’s Pooop-Ball time!!)

  80. Walau eh, Ivan-L, you very the brave, no horse run. I must match you in my HSUG combination by breaking my kid’s piggy bank for that 2,000. Makes sense that it’s cents.

Seriously, if you are confident, perhaps you might want to consider a Draw-Spain bet for which you need spend half of yr intended outlay but the returns are abt the same for spending $1k on a direct Spain win bet. Throw in the balance $500 as insurance.

  81. Wei wei Tai Kor Tim-L,
I veri brave? No lah! More like – must b key-siao-liao! (wit biase …. more towards too-lan … wit all the who-har … abt predictions / forecasts … on how great/chun r they …. can’t even let us simple sotong folks to enjoy these Poop-ball games piecefully.)
Anyway, jus browsed thru Sin-gap-ore Poop website…WOW WOW %#@!*&+”?><
They r making it veri difficult 4 simple sotongs like me 2 gamble….
So many compubitchion like odds, evens, home, away, bets type etc etc….
    Lia-bo-queue leh!!! And hv only 1 1/2 days to digest n decide ….. how 2 tam-baa tat SGD1000/-
Hope tat today’s monthly walk will provide me the inspiration n enlighten (or the third-eye) to see where d lampa-goal 2 butt…..
    U hv a good day!

  82. Haha, yes, Ivan-L? the Spools. odds for the Spain-Holland match really suck but those posted for tonite’s Ulu Kway vs German prata are not too bad altho I dont know where to bite. Will probably stick to the Uru doing the voodoo and santa claus come calling again.

Weather is fine (abt 1 p.m. now) and think you shd find a lot of wenjoyment in the walk as i can see names which make good companions.

  83. Kudos to Ivan the Terrible(terrible in spelling/specialist in 4 letter words…surprised you did not get yellow card from Chief Sitting Bull yet. Yr tipping ,..in the face of results looks pretty good …let’s see if It is a one off or not. Have not heard on you take for Germany vs Uruguay game as yet. Towkay Tim is obviously supporting Uruguay but have not heard from DC on what position he is taking yet). I suggest the main bet should be on Germany to win (miserly odds of 1.55 drifted to 1.58 on Poolz and a token on Germany- Germany for the HT/FT at 2.40. The Opening of the Asian market at 3/4 ball from 2.10 on Germany and 1.8 for Uruguay has drifted to 1/2 half and 1.875 for Germany to 2.025 for Uruguay. It means the public sentiment is drifting more towards Uruguay. From the opening offer I assess that the Germany win in 90 mins is imminent. There is a possibility of Draw-Germany win which has drifted from 4.4 to 4.3 and will be a serious alternative to consdier but I am not taking this option.

For Spain game I am taking a main bet on Spain to win in 90 mins. Please note that is a big difference on Spain to carry the Cup at odds of 1.50 compared to Spain to win in 90 mins at 1.95 . I am also taking Draw- Spain for the HT/FT. at 4.50. Please clarify what you are betting as it is easy to be wise after the event.

My bet is peanuts compared to all you …so nothing to shout about but a point to note if you are willing to offer information(volunterr) about your bet size it would be more impressive if the amount is mentioned before the start of match …if not don’t bother mentioning it after the results are known as it will not make an impression.

Good Luck to one and all and may the best team win!

By the Bro Tim is your Santa Claus a former King of England with plenty of wives?

  84. My 11 year old son knows that in one and a half days time, there can be only one winner in this World Cup. Well, we enjoyed talking about the games.

Some of us do have fun ideas. And that is to guess what will happen to the 2kg optopus living in Germany and the 900 gm parrot living in Little India, Spore.

For a start, I think Holland will win this year’s cup. This means, the Spaniards will invite the optopus to meet their metadors.

And our Singapore Bird Park will likely get a new “Ah Meng”.

  85. For a spelling specialist I did manage to get volunteer wrong. Not hedging my bets but just sharing I am opposing my airline friend from an Asean country he said his God of Fortune told him Holland will win and I have a coke bet with him on the outcome of the finals…clue from land of Dien Bien Phu. So Ivan and myself are in the same boat for the finals. Since Ivan posted first you can say I am following the Smart Money and the Paulus Caesar from the land of Achtung and opposing the Chief , the God of Fortune and Mani the Parakeet. Anybody sitting on the fence and hoping for a draw at 90 mins. If you think of the Cospiracy Theory you have to ask yourself this question… How will the books make money and a draw at 90 mins seems the possible outcome. Again I am not hedging but just sharing as I am solidly for the Spanish Armada(not to get burnt at Tralfagar(forgot if correct place where the Brits won) but sail in the glorious sunset and be feted. Please don’t tell us what you did after the results are known but share with us your thoughts before kick – off… Paging for Henry Yip and Daniel Chan to make their presence felt in this glorious event! Silence is only for the Lambs . Right or wrong Ivan and myself (not forgetting Chief and Tim) have the Jabilani to post and be damned or hailed as the new Caesar. Any more feedback for 3rd place?

  86. Again spelt conspiracy wrong..must be getting senile in my old age …Ha ha ha! Better commit Hara kiri and zap myself before the guns knives from others or Ivan’s PooP Gun takes aim in my direction . Phew! (Managed to be faster on the draw before kena tarok!)

  87. The result is out and my faith in a German victory was vindicated …at odds of 1.58…no big deal but the total goal of 3 and 5 goals was tipped but I frankly did not bet on was for the Newpaper challenge.(betting on total goals is not recommended by me even if the dividends are healthy if one gets it right) . In the face Of my dismal failure for the disastrous 2nd semi final I appreciate the fact that SHC boys were subtle in their post match comments and I escaped a full spanking…Ha Ha Ha…It shows some maturity of forum discussions…a far cry from one year ago.

I did not mention the total goals tally prediction on SHC Forum but You can visit my blog archive on http://www.starstazracing.blogspot.com to verify my claim.

THE BLOG AND COMMENTS WERE POSTED BEFORE THE KICK 0FF and I got the result correct as well as total goals but got it wrong for the half-time/full time. . Hope you can profit in time from my advice in the finals
    Starstatz

For the finals I am tipping a 1 or 3 goal margin thus assuming that somebody will win by a one goal margin in 90 mins.

  88. For those who lost money quietly on the 3rd place game I recommend a flutter each way on win/place on Race 11 number 4 on a horse called “GHOZI” in the $1,115,000 Emirates Singapore Derby which should get your money back if he runs a place but will pay good dividends if he wins as he has drawn a wide gate and there are doubts as to his abilty in attempting 4000M more since his last start 3rd to Intercept. . I would suggest do not play the horses unless you have good advice and I am currently 2nd best pundit among all the Print and Internet Media and I beat last year’s Champion by a clear 5 wins to set a new record. My blog archive is there if my claims need to be verified. For a full report click on http://www.7naps.com where the last horse I tipped on 09 July won in a value dividend of $28 and $11.Good Luck! Should any members think that is pure luck with no skill involved I welcome them to tip an alternate horse before the race starts as anybody can be wise and criticise if my horse fails to win or be in the top 3. Some SHC ladies(not playing regularly but only once in a blue moon) have won some minor exotic bets following my tips during the Singapore Airlines International Festival where I tipped the winner in one of the 2 races and the 2nd horse in the correct order besides other exotic bets.

For a lark and pure chance tip…do bet 3 numbers on TOTO in the 3rd row with the rest dispersed in other rows. For a 2nd alternate do also 3 numbers in Row 5 with the rest dispersed. Caveat emptor clause applies…Good Luck! Do take this TOTO tip with a pinch of salt and play only token bets.

  89. Enjoy while the game is on. Tonight is the last night, and hopefully, some of us can make our way to the office tomorrow morning. Glad to see the men participating. Any guys and gals meeting somewhere tonight for early dinner? Little India, perhaps? Or some bar? I am game.

    Terence Seah

  90. Hv reviewed the potential returns on most bet-types…..
1st/foremost: One must be out-of-his-freakying-(if not fcukyying)-mind to gamble (in the 1st place) on these poop-ball games……

Better to bet on TOTO (SGD1) for potential returns of a MINIMUM (guarantee) six-fig-amt wit open-end MAXIMUM amt based on pooled-sunked cash/cost…… since the chance of winning has an infinite number of zeros in front of the winning ticket/numbers anyway……

That is how I manage my risk-reward matrix when it comes to gambling…….

Last nite, a fellow SHCian sms me: “So, you are also a poop-ball fan?” Had replied “NOoooo! I only interested to watch the last FOUR Games; tat’s all lah!”
Reason: So that shld any of the arron-goon-ase or filthy-rich customers asked in their wu-liao-chit-chat; this simple sotong can still managed to hold some (hi) ground without having to wear my under-wear outside (stuppidly like superman) or cover-up my face (like bat-man) in this idiot-dior-ic realm…..

And certainly; not out to impress any over-the-hill-souls – only intended to put a big-pulg tightly into big ejeectutaling hoel ….

Finally, for the last piece of sh*t:
    – 50% on Bet Type 11 – HT PTS; Selection 11 – Draw 1-1.
    – 30% on Bet Type 04 – Pick The Score; Selecetion 12 – 1-2 SPAIN (Away Win)
    – 20% on Bet Type 05 – Total Goals Selection 01 – 1

Sound stuupid or gre8 suck-lection; who’s cares! If win; so what d fcuk! Wat’s d Big Deal! If loose all; it doesn’t bother me too – bcos tis is my al-tits-ude towards all things related 2/called GAMPALING!!

    Tat’s all, folks!
    IL

  91. This is it! The World Cup finals…

Will be supporting Spain, who is playing the game the way it should be played….with lots of Passing, Pressing & Possession…very delightful to watch.

Poor Holland will be the bridesmaid, yet again. They will have a chance, only if the game goes to penalty kicks where luck plays a huge part.

For those who want to watch the game, but still need to get to office on time on Monday, you can use this tip…..

Tape the game on TV , from 2.30-5.30.
Sleep at 10 pm & Wake up at 6 am to watch.
You will still get your 8 hour sleep and still be able to get to work on time…

    Important!
Do not turn on the radio to know the final result.
For the boring parts of the game, there is the fast forward button ;-)

May the best team win! Ole, ole, ole….

  92. For the people who lost money on World Cup watches I have a quick fix…try for a medium bet on HKG Racing by playing WIN/PLACE on Race 6 number 10 . The horse is called United and is probably a Manchester United fan and wants you recoup some of yopur losses or make more by investing on this horse and the Singapore horse called GHozi running in the Emirates Singapore Derby today…Good Luck I expect one winner from these 2 selections!

  93. I was at a Sg Poo outlet near my house this morning. Everybody had something to say. It was a party. Or was it ?

TALKS were plenty. Some talked as if they know every inch of soil in the important WC stadium tonight. Some talked as if they know the footballers from their feet to their balls. Some were so “protective” of the team they support that the mention of the name of the opposite team invited free flow of foul foam in their mouth (notice the f words???). YEAH, unabashedly free flow. SHAME on them.

To be sure, none of these people know anything about Spain or Holland. Much less the players. They just know that the team that they put their money on is THE BEST. Collect money when the final whistle sounds – that is the ultimate. SO, from NOW until THEN, anybody who attempts to say otherwise is like a jinx trying to kill their good omen.

“Ng mai gong suay lah!!!”, one guy said to his friend when the latter suggested something.

Another guy shouted, quite alarmingly, when somebody in the crowd said Holland would win, (in Hokkien) “You don’t shoot me to Holland hoh….Lim Beh put $100 on SEEBUNYAH leow!!!”

ANYWAY, thanks to Sg Poo, such is the hue and colour of the WC. ENJOY !!!!

by the way, I kind of like the flying Dutchmen. Too many bulls in Spain. Ooops hope I don’t invite f f of f f….

  94. I hv a problem. I am confused. Is santa claus male or female cos he not only has invited me to go for the Pyjama D&D but actually paid for me.

He looks a male, his voice is normal of a male but beyond that i dunno as he locks himself in toilet cubicles when I do it at the urinal, so cant see.

As was to be expected, santa lost the Uruguay-Germany bet.

He took Uruguay. The ulus were actually on course for a
win, attacking purposefully in the 1st half. The ulus soared like mudlarks in the 1st half but, inexplicably, like larks in mugs in the 2nd.

Several tiring players were replaced in the 2nd half and that caused Uru to lose their aggression – their strength. They let in 2 untidy goals, off deadball situations. Final score : 3-2 to Germany.

My $100 Spools investement yielded me $232. I had it as Draw-Uruguay (it was D-Germany), 2-2 at half time (1-1), Uru 3-2 (Germany 3-2), Suarez to score last. The winning came from the 5 total goals scored I predicted which see my dismal strike rate continues altho $-wise, I won. Grateful that this WC has been kind to me.

Santa, I was searching Little India to look for you. What’s yr offer for the Final, a chance to make some $ from me finally?

    ???(Uruguay)?????????????? ?????????????????(Germany)??????????1??

    ????? ?????(Holland)?????(Spain)?????????????????????????????????????

  95. Frankly my HKG tip failed today and my Emirates Derby tip was scratched .If you follow my blog I had a good day with 5 winners(most at good prices) from 12 races …a 41.67 percent strike rate which at least for today is better odds than playing 4D, TOTO OR casino games. Of course we have bad days with no winner at all! Is playing the stock exchange eg I am recommending a buy on Singapore Airlines and Sembawang(the one that owns he Dubai water filtration plant in Dubai? Is this gambling?

Ivan despite his poop filled colourful language is more sane than the average guy and there is a method in his madness and I think he will get it right today for going for the ball strategy and under. On the other hand I have a SHC guy from the city of Washington who blindly takes 5 goals and above for the 3rd place game and won well but is repeating the strategy for tonight’s game and I think play will be cautious and Ivan should do well. Gambling is random but well informed decisions after doing some research and analysing the conspiracy theory I will deem as judicious investments. Just sharing. If I tip a $26 horse to win and tip 5-7-2-1 as in Race 2 today when the result was 5-7-1-2 . An investment of $12 on the tierce(top 3 in correct order) would have yielded a return of $172 and an investment of $24 would have yielded a return of $464 on the quartet(top 4 in correct order). Is this pure luck and co-incidence.?

Anyway for the exact score for the Newpaper Challenge I am taking Spain to win 2-1

Ivan bet types are intriguing but there are loop holes even if the final score is 3 goals or less as he has not covered all the bases. Let’s hope he makes it as I am expecting a 3 goal result or less!

  96. I guess it’s best to watch the Finals Spain-Holland at home since broadcast is available free-to-air. Kind of itchy to want to go out with some mates to see the finals outside the home. Well, I have been sitting at this Egyptian restaurant at Arab Street since 10pm. After a Shisha smoke, we thought it would be better to watch the game at home.

So Holland, here I come, flag at hand and ready to bring the parrot to the Bird Park tomorrow morning. Anybody for Holland, a win, any win?

    Terence Seah

  97. Sorry not to let the boss to have the last word…the market has further drifted to a clear half ball instead of Quarter ball last night but winning 2.10 for Spain compared to 1.80 for Holland …a further sign that books are trying to entice you to go for Holland and they are trying to entice you further with more handicap…Well let’s see if I read the tea leaves(drifting odds) correctly! Enjoy the spectacle whoever wins.

  98. With no goal scored at the break, I am closer to seeing returns to my spools investment.

Holland was a more threatening side in the 1st half, missing a sitter at the left and Robben’s cunning shot was parried away by Casillas, 1 of the best in his trade.

Rough game, with 5 yellow cards dished out already. More to see with referee Webb trigger happy. Think Spain will win, after 90 minutes.

  99. Quite happy with the FT result @ 0-0 altho I’d hv preferred 1-1 which was possible byr for Casillas stopping Robben’s sure goal, not once but twice, and Ramos scoring for Spain with a free header.

In the money already, and more if Spain eventually wins in extra time.

Hehe, santa claus, sorrie, you, rather yr team, cd hv wrapped it up in 90 mins, and with Torres expected to come in for Spain, he might shed his lethargy for this Final.

  100. Spain won in extra time with an unstopabble Iniesta goal superbly delivered by Cesc Fabregas whom I thot is always a better player for Xavi Alonso.

I hv lost count how many cards referee Howard Webb gave out but quite clearly to me, Robben was brooding after his caution and played less than purposefully after that.

Santa, sorry butty, you lost again. It’s now 2300 plus 4500 plus pyjamas plus a date with yr hearthrob kumari (whatever, whoever he is). Let me noe share with you what I picked : Robben to score first, Draw-Draw and 1-1 at FT, with Spain winning in the 30 minute extra time. Toyal investment for 2nite : $65. Other than your tithes, spool will pay me $220.

So, my strike rate remains low = below 33% = but no complain that my return on investment is a satisfying 233%. So shall I celebrate and think that I am very clever. Haha, stupiak of me if I dare think so. Truth is, it’s a bit of khack but a lot of luck.

    ?????2010 ???????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????

  101. I guess there are too many smart guys around, not to have picked Holland as the winner. Nobody took my offer.

Then, I thought I was smart. I bought total goals ONE in this morning game. Was about to stake claim of $70 with S Pools, only to realise the bet was valid for the 90 mins.

Give up. I think I won’t listen to a bird anymore.

Abel, here I come. And, to all Ah Longs, please wait until 1st Aug. Will be back from Perth then.

The moral of the story, better to keep working. Cannot make enough money from football or horses. Have a good morning.

    Terence Seah

  102. I thought, if Holland had the same composed Arjen Robben who shd hv lifted the ball in a 1-1 with Casillas, and not hammered a grounder, it wdnt be easy for Spain down 0-1…………yr 1 goal scored and Holland winning might hv come true.

The non=partisan will say that both sides were evenly matched. Personally, Van B’s replacement by VDW was a tactical error for Holland as the former was rock solid in defence for the Dutch. Spain was known for improving with eaxh passing minute and by taking him out, Holland needed to readjust and fint the rhythm which they werent given the time in a high tempo match.

The bird? Haha, blame it and it’s still a bird, and will soon come alive again. Its owner will probably be seeing fewer than the normal 10 customers a day so instead of idling, it’ll take booking for you to spend the nite with.

The date comes with a vuvuzela for you to blow at the bird if you cant stand its talk, or for the bird to blow at you with if you think it is beginning to make sense.

    ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  103. The octopus had the last laugh & Spain finally won…

Otherwise, the local media would have a field day with headlines like ….”Blur like Sotong” etc…

    Anyway, latest ‘noose’ just in…

A Top US investment bank is said to be bidding US$4m a yr’s package for the oracle octopus Paul to head up its proprietary trading book. The bank will convert part of its trading floor into a fish tank for Paul and put boxes of different markets, stocks, indices, equities and bonds for Paul to chose from. Hopefully this will translate into a more profitable prop business for them. Paul will also work closely with Head of Global Strategy and recommends him asset allocation strategy.

Disclaimer: Please take the above with a pinch of salt & a plate of mussels ;-)

  104. If you had listened to the Octopus you would have lost money like myself and Ivan . If you had listened to Terence and Mani the Parakeet you would have lost money at 90 mins as well. Brother Tim you confuse me on your position I had thought you predicted a Holland and put you in the same boat as Chief in my comments and Ivan and myself in the Spain camp. I believe in post #78 you mentioned a high score 3-2 win for Holland. In the end i was surprised you made money..so I shall only award bunny points for your win. In my earlier post i had asked if anybody tipped a draw and suggested in my conspiracy theory that that was the only way the bookies could make money but nobody took up the offer and DC and HY were wisely sitting on the fence not willing to expose themselves. In the end I salute Eric Ding of the Newpaper who was spot on in his predictions for bothe the 3rd place and Finals. This year’s result is a replication of the 2006 World Cup where I made money with fellow SHC members but passed over the draw as the odds appeared too high at $3.50 and even $3.65 at one time.
I still have a high respect for Ivan’s loss as he had the jabulani to say so in no uncertain terms what he did before the match and not after. His predictions were close but as I had observed he did not cover all the bases ie 0-0 or a Holland Win despite being right that it was a 3 goals or under game.

On the point of making money on toto my prediction on 3 numbers in row 3 with the rest dispersed or 3 numbers in row 5 with the rest dispersed did not materialise. I shall persist with this forecast for the next 2 draws before I give up on my theories on TOTO. If it does not come out in the next 2 draws it means that the strike rate is less than 50% thus not worthy of being credible in any way at all! There are 6 basic patterns in TOTO ie random pattern which was drawn on July and the remaining patterns are 3 numbers in either row 1,row 2, row 3 row or row 5. Anyway TOTO is random so only token bets.

On the subject of horse racing I just launched my VAL-BET(value bet) tips on my blog on http://www.starstazracing.blogspot.com on 09 July with 3 bets and had 2 placings and one win of $28. On the 11 July I also had 3 VAL-BETS …RESULT? One horse which I tipped on SHC website was scratched one was unplaced(zero returns and the 3rd won at $14. I shall be continuing my VAL-BETS on my blog. For the record I have invested (assume one win ticket per selection with no place bet to be counted. I have invested a total of 5 horses X $5 each on one win ticket = $25 invested. My returns are $28 and $14 = $42 thus yielding a profit of $17 …or a return of investments of 1.68 for every dollar invested. I am not advocating SHC members to bet on horse racing but I am advocating that a semi-pro pundit can give decent advice for intriguing returns comparable to advice from a good stockbroker. Horse racing if you are already playing can be profitable if good advice is followed. Visit the races for fun if you have the benefit of good advice…if not i suggest to skip horse r acing and do something else.Horse racing has better odds of winning than toto, 4D or Soccer (whether World Cup , S- League, Premier League or European Leagues) or casino games. I welcome anybody to tip in advance or any of these betting games and we will compare who has better return of investments. Anybody who thinks they can do better on horses are welcomed to tip too.!(please do so before the race as it is easy to be wise after) My VAL-BETS can be verified through my blog archive. I will try to share this journey with fellow SHC members over the course of the remainder of the year if allowed to do so by Chief. I will not be counting all for my selections for the day but only my VAL-BETS for comparison of R.O.I. over the next 6 months. Till then keep an open mind and I will certainly advise against going to the races and betting blindly on favourite colours or lucky numbers! For the record one SHC lady wanted to put some token bets on the Singapore Airlines Cup and gave my views on the 2 races. I predicted the top 2 in one race in the correct order as well as the 3rd within 4 horses and she made some money. For the record she is not addicted to the game but puts a bet once in a blue moon! Some other SHC members believe in lucky numbers but always do well after the results are known and seldom before. I look forward to be proven wrong that to win by lucky numbers is tough! I can predict the future …ha ha ha any knives and guns around the corner in the forum?

I am truly a quack in this field of stockbroking but I forsee Singapore Airlines making money in the next 6 months as long as oil prices remain stable. Traffic is up and their flights are full partly because of the I.R. and increased demand. A double dip recession is around the corner? Not so sure? European currencies failing …not so sure. Is there any stockbroke out there who can quote me Singapore Airlines Price for 14 July when the morning bell rings and let’s see if goes up by 31 December. Remember I am only a quack with absolutely no credentials in this field but I aware that their passneger load is high for the last 6 months and expected to be high for the next 6 months projection as well. Is this gambling?
