  1. Hi Dan/Jeff Gan.

Wow.. u guys sure work fast! Jeff, you’re doing really well… keep it up. I wouldn’t want to miss this event. Singing & dancing keeps me alive!

Please let us know whether there’s any entrance fee, how much do we have to pay for food/drinks? Do they have a website link?

    Cheers, Lydia.

  2. Hi Lydia,

There is no entrance fees. Try googleling for for information. The foods and drinks are not like it is at Han’s. You may have to pay slightly more considering there is no entrance and entertainment fees.

  4. I think most of you would prefer to have such an event on a weekend. Keep you fingers crossed. I am trying to re-schedule for a Friday night either in September 10 or 24.

Need to talk to the boss of Love the World and revert soon!

    Dan

  5. Thank you Steven Ng, that was a great help concerning the location and the MRT at Promenade which is just a walking distance away and the bus routes.

I was wrong to think that City Hall Station was the nearest. Just show how ignorant I am.

    Dan

  6. Oh (N_O)ooooooo…..

Just when I thought I could attend the next SHC Gathering and was about to register this morning, I received a call that my Tue class will be switched to Wed from Sep onwards… (#$%^&*@!)…..

    So gonna miss the Sep event again… (8_8) and maybe Oct since I’ll be “stuck” with Wed and Thu classes until Nov when my Thu class ends… {#_#}

Am keeping my fingers (and toes) cross that I can attend at least one before the year ends… **(^_^)**

Am gonna envious all who can make it this Sep as it sounds quite fun…. aarrggghhh… (x_x)

  7. HI Dan,

The website looks impressive. Yes, i’ve marked my calendar to attend this event. I’m ok with Wed, 15th Sep. But if you’re intending to change to Friday 10th or 24th, i will not be able to!

    Cheers, Lydia.

  8. Hi Dan

Please include me for the event
Can the karaoke set load and play our own VCD. Also can the music key be tailored to the song and singer

    Robert Ong

  9. Hi Lydia,

we are sticking to the date on the post, no change.

Hi Robert Ong, welcome to the Club. Yes, it can play any VCD, as for the pitching I will have to check it out.

    Dan

  10. Hi Terence Seah,

Thanks for your wonderful thought of a special gift from India.
With dimensions of 34cmx25cmx2cm thick, it looks more like an Encyclopaedia of ITs with combination of gymnastics and yoga poses. Ensure both of you don’t get entangled and no one to rescue. Ha! ha!. :)

SHcians are welcome to peek into this book and learn new \techniques and as well as to fine tune their IT skills.

    Hi Dan Huang,
Pls. register me for the Sept gathering. I like this venue you had chosen.
I believe it is big enough to allow us to play games and alfresco dining at the same time.

I will bring along my Scrabbles game. Any Scrabbles kakis down here ?

If you had the Jingo game set, pls. bring along to create more excitement and laughter.

  11. Hi Dan, count me in at this meeting. Thanks.

Calling Steven Chan, u asked for Scrabble kakis at Palawan Beach party. Now Dan said there’s a corner for board/card games at bistro. Can play a friendly game with u, if u like. :-) Yatsing

  12. StevenC, glad you are coming to the September monthly gathering. The book will be presented to you in a ceronomy.

Dan, can you allocated some time. Those who would like to have a peep at the book, look out for StevenC. I am sure he will be ready.

    Terence Seah

  13. Terence,

Certainly, those who are still thinking to come, please come now you have a valid reason to do so. This place have a club atmosphere where you can relax, meet new friend enjoy the music and song where anyone is welcome on stage to sing the blues away. Birds can chirp, frog can croak, we can do much better by singing and serenading one another, how dat?

We will then ask Steven Chan wat he intend to do with the book with his lanky frame!

    Dan

  14. Hi Yat Sing/ others,

I am glad that u r able to attend this gathering and spare some time for Scrabble. You will be 2nd, in the list. Hopefully, u can come on time so that we can have more time to play the game.

Anyone can join in to be a Scrabble kaki. However, a maximun of 4 players is allowed at only 1 time. 1st.come 1st. served.

Alamak! I brought along the Scrabble set at Sentosa beach but was too engrossed with the interesting games by Yat Sing that I totally forgotten abt it.

  15. Hi Dan, I would vm like to come, but cannot as I’m away during this period, appreciate vm yr thots on the other tread, I’m v sure most SHCians appreciate vm that U r one of the most pro active member of our club. Hv a happy & fruitfull gathering. cheers & nice w/e all

  16. The response to this month gatherings is pretty good! More are welcome to join in. We have a new place, new ambience, new happenings.

The owner allowed us to use their band intruments at no extra charge. So far we have Jeffrey Gan at the keyboard, we need a drummer, a guitarist and more musicians to make this a memorable evening.

Situated near the Promenade MRT, this is the place to be, to catch up with old and new friend. Joy will take care of registration, dun forget your name tags. Sockie, can you help with the photo takings? Janet will help out liasing with those who want to sing on stage. This is an event for the member by the member.

Calling all of our own musicians, where are you? John Howe, Dennis Wee, Ron Wie and Patrick Chan, entertain us with your talents!

    Danz4Joy!

  17. This is your usual Monthly gatherings with a twist. Besides board or card games, the singing part is more for fun. Some may sing solo, others may be in two or three or a bigger group just for the joy and merry making. Nobody will be booted off the stage.

More member new and old are encourage to let their hairs down and enjoy the evening.

    Dan

  18. Thanks Francis and Boon Liang for agreeing to be our photographers for the day!

Just a word of caution, some may not want their photo to be taken, please inform them.

The photographer’s job is to be natural and capture the memories here at the gatherings, they will shoot as and when it is appropriate. It is not their job to look out for those who dun want their photo to be taken at the expense of those who are here to enjoy themselves and make friend. We seek your kind understanding!

    Dan

  21. Hi Yat Sing @ 16 / others,

Sorry I had been busy lately and miss yr comment.
Sure we can have a game of Scrabble at 5pm.

Calling Joy and other Scrabble kakis , we miss this Scrabble last time. Perhaps, we can play it this time. :)

  22. Tonight, we have the SHC monthly gathering; except this time Dan Huang has made the evening different. It is casual, in a more relaxed environment and importantly, it sets the mood for you to meet your friends, and new ones too.

See you at 5pm. And dont forget to test Steven Chan out, he will have the large coffee table book “Kama Sutra The erotic Art of India”.

Thanks alot Dan and to all your helpers too.

    Terence Seah

  23. Hi Dan

Thanks for a most enjoyable evening last night. Irene and I were very touched by the warm welcome extended to us by the SHC members and we hope to meet up with all of you soon

    cheers

    dolly choo

  24. Hi Dan n Joy,

Thanks for organsing this event for us and there are lots of airy space to move around in this bistro. The ambience is lively , with good food and drinks and with entertainment provided by Jeff Gan’s live band, the shc cha cha and line dancing dancers and our own brand of Karaoke singers through the night while we were playing Scrabbles.

Thanks also to my Scrabble kakis, Anna, Yat Sing, Tim Liu, Lydia and Agnes Seow. We enjoyed and also managed to complete the game in time for leaving.

Rose White , we really enjoy your powerful and melodious voice when you sang “The Power of Love” ? The next time round can you sing for us “Don’t cry for me Argentina ?” Boleh ???

And Janet Heng, I really enjoy listening to your Cantonese pop melodious songs :) So next time can expect more Canton pop from you ? Can you sing this song .. goes something like this ? cannot remember the title. “Joe chor sun sin may pun moon choke, lot toe teh yoke chow kin toe yin wong…….. literally translated as become a god still not satisfied went down to hell to meet devil king…..

  25. Hi Terence Seah,

Many Thanks for your educational big book Kama Sutra , the erotic art of India. And it has been passed round for our members to view with mixed reactions from them. And I believe it is quite heavy for you to carry back all the way from India. Appreciated.

Have you try out the new IT technique which I hinted to you from the book pg.106 last night ? And it is a pity that you couldn’t join us for long and listen to Jeff Gan’s live band of music as you had another appointment elsewhere .

  26. Hi StevenC #64,

To enjoy the Kama Sutra, you need to sit down, relax and go through page by page. I am sure and friends have told me, no human has ever tried all the steps and positions inside that book.

Please be our Kama Sutra expert and advisor.

    Terence Seah

  27. Thank you Dan-H, Joyce-C, Janet-C, Boon Liang and Jeff-G for putting together 1 of the best Mthly Gatherings ever.

Unlike some occasions in the past when soon people ran out of conversations after the usual chiak ba buay? Li hor bor? Wu pang sai pang chio bor……..? we whet in k’oks, dances and were entertained to a crescendo by Jeff-G and the band.

Haha, Terence, you siao huh wnen you ask Steven-C to sit down and relax. He is tall so for him to get the full benefits of yr kamasutra book, you shd also give him a bamboo………

    ????????????????????????????????????????????????

  28. Hi Dan, Joy and Jeffery,

Wednesday nite’s SHCians’ Gathering at the Bistro was very good – venue, the singing cum dancing and the food. And I want to say THANK YOU.

    Geok Suan.

  29. Speechless appreciation to our EO for making this gathering a great jaunt of the time. With all the pluses, everyone put aside the minor minus. This is the spirit of our SHCian; never let any happiness slip away.

    Dear Steven Chan #63

Thanks for throw light on me.Take note of your request and i shall do so when we hold our next function at the Esplanade Concert Hall. This building equipped with water proof structure. So when everyone start hurling water bomb at me, I am well shield.Hee.. hee..

  30. Thank you Dolly-C but no thanks. Not a single Chinese song in those 1000 songs. Me tak tau ang mor songs which will definitely add angst, that my hair will, with listening, turn ang.

If you can, pls find Chinese songs. 10 will do. The oldies of the 70s-early 90s.

(Had a good k’ok session last nite. Only 3 of us. All regulars. Left the song selection to the KJ. Passed her test and sang all the songs she spinned).

  31. Thank you Dolly-C.

I didnt expect it to happen, and it did. Not 10 but a collection of 110 fabulous Chinese favourites, with lyrics to guide me.

As I sing, all 3 dogs jump on my lap to give me smooches. They too love the songs…………..perhaps the singing as well.

Once again, thanks a lot, Dolly !

  32. #69, #71. Dolly C

TQ for sharing the song sites so readily. Would like to offer some feedback:
    1. The English site – songs bring back good memories – Tho’ some other great songs of the era are missing, it’s still very good for nostalgic trips down memory lane. :)

    2. Chinese site – good playlist but no audio. Sad. But appreciate the song lyrics vm.

I’m looking for Chinese song score sheets and have ‘trawled’ the net without success. Think you’re a good person to ask: Do your know of a site sharing Chinese/English songs score sheets?

P/S I watch/listen to Chinese oldies from Youtube videos. Very good selection available …but no songs from composers Wei Song n Shi Song…think they hold the copyright to ALL their songs and they don’t share in the public domain.

    Cheers to all Chinese/English evergreens/oldies enthusiasts :)

  33. Hello jasmine

I have to look them up. i had some sites which carried some very old songs.

the chinese song site does have audio. you have to wait a couple of seconds for the music to start.

No i do not know of sites with score sheets but if i do come across it, will be sure to let you know.

    cheers and HAND

    dolly

  34. To “look up” takes effort, putting in a conscious effort. Deeply appreciate that. Thank you one more time, Dolly-C.

    No audio? Mine plenty hor.

Believe most of these 110 Chinese songs are used for taiji and line dance. Melodious and vibrant. Particularly comforting to me is, there isnt one single Hokien song.

Recently, I heard someone sing a new Hokien number and it contained smthg that sounded like “children drink milk to grow up (sio hai jiak nee tua” (?????? which was certainly incongrous in a love song.

So I opened my eyes to read the lyrics and it was “?????”. Thankfully, there wasnt any bak sai or other sai in that song.

  35. Hi Dolly C #74; Tim L #76

Am puzzled. Did you play a song from the Chinese website? The audio icon is there but the link is broken. Several songs don’t even have the audio button but there’s the ‘replay’ button (!!)

i think maybe i need to upgrade my media player ..

    #75 Steven N
Scanned three pages of baidu.com …nothing there – gave up.
Do u have a URL from baidu.com i can try?

  36. Jass-T, try this.

Lift your computer with you hands and hold it above your head for 5 minutes. Be totally focussed and dont any question why you’re doing it for (in any cae, you dunno since you’re following instrucions) even if they call you siao eh.

After excatly 5 mins, throw the cimputer down on the floor as hard as you can.

If it doesnt bounces to yr height, junk it. If it does, you will have to seriously consider leaving the computer at home and go for an upgrade.

Thank you Steven-N for the new link. Will get in there for the songs.

  37. #79. Hey Tim L.

you talk so much till you forgot to answer my question! Did you play a song from the Chinese song site or not? Want to confirm if the audio link is working or broken.

    #78, Steven Ng,

TQ for the baidu song site. Feedback ..

Song titles and singers are from the ‘younger’ generation era. For the earlier singers, only Teresa Teng and Cai Qin made it to the top 200 singer list. Fei Yu Qing & other great 70s singers are missing…. unless i missed seeing their names in the list.

Audio and lyrics, but no song scores (yue4 pu3)

Nevertheless, with 241 Cai Qin’s songs…i’m more than happy to ‘discover’ the site. TQ again. :)

  38. Jass-T, 3?long (something wrong) leh.

All Dolly-C 110 songs sung by original singers come crisp to my ears, with several in 2 versions e.g. ?? which is also sung in Japanese.

Steven-N’s link takes you to all “famous” singers. Old ones and old songs as well…….in my case ???’s ?????? ??????? etc. Your ??? and his are both there. ??? Click the correct icon and you will get there.

Last but not least, did you try out what I had recommended you shd do with yr computer?

  39. #81 Tim L

Nothing ‘long’, just something SHORT in the audio software. Prefer less violent recommendation ..

Can u give me the song no. of dong lian? Can check out these songs: no. 23 (qing ren de yan lei) and No. 104 (bu liao qing)? Do they have the audio button? – just want to see if we are looking at the same page!

baidu song site – very crowded and in Chinese, so only good Chinese readers find it user friendly. For me, not so easy to browse…language handicap.
Saw Fei yuqing at no. 123. What about Yu tian, Long Piao2, Fong Fei2…? Don’t see their names. Are they represented in the singer’s list?

    ..you have homework now. Paiseh.

  40. Jass-T,

A violent act is impulsive, reckless and usually rash.

I have asked you to hold up the cimputer above your head for 5 mins which will give you not only to focus but also think thru carefully what the hell you’re doing.

If you agree with me that it’s a sure cure to your problem, you are [ursuing a cure and none can fault you for being violent. So, go try it. Film every part of your action and then see for yourself that it’s violent.

As rerecommended by Steven-N, go direct to http://mp3.baidu.com. The 5th icon on top says “????” Click on it and a new page will appear.

There’s a list of names of letters in the alphabet. Choose the letter “Y” for “Yu Tian” and his name is 117. Click on 117 and YT will jump onto yr bed.

??? is at 41 under F and she will fly all over your room. Even LKY is listed but what he sings, I dont understand.

Ok, go enjoy yr time with ??……he has just smsed me that he is waiting and told me not to tell you that he is under the bed, to give you a surprise…………

  41. #83 Tim L.

impulsive? Not necessary since the violent solution was ‘crafted’ as a recommendation. Let me recommend you to one of the best Chinese songs ever composed….so you can forget about bashing a computer by proxy! Fei Yuqing’s song , meng4 tuo2 ling2 (song no.3).

TQ for directing me to the 5th icon/tab. ;) I only looked at the top 200 singers and top 500 songs so missed out some 70s-80s great singers.

Ok, enjoy meng tuo ling… :)

  42. It was you who perceive my method of checking whether your computer harbours a terrorist inside as violent. And now you call it a craft…..cheese, smile for the camera, its kraft cheese.

Whether you want ???’s menthol link or hv his spirit come into yr dream (???) haha, you’re getting very intersting. Clear to me that you prefer this c;ean cut Fei than the moustachioed Yu.

Glad that you managed to find what you wanted but try to look at the top more than at the bottom. It might be mistaken as something humhum supsup………and surely you wont want to add to the many misgivings abt porn lately.
