SHC Fleamart – Sat 20 Nov, now changed to Sat 11 Dec 2010

A date has been tentatively set for the next Fleamart, if not most likely, on Sat 20 Nov 2010.  Time is likely from 0900 hrs to 1500 hrs.  Location is not firmed yet.

Members interested to take up a stall are encouraged to take note of this date and time.  If you have items for sale, you may indicate them under this Post.  Pre-orders are also encouraged.  Commercial items or products are not allowed.  So, go ahead, whether new items, old items, used items, sealed and packed edible items.

Any form of sale or advertising outside this Post not accepted, and likely will be deleted.  This is a once or twice a year event where selling is permitted, at the SHC Fleamart.

Where possible, the location will be opened to the public for the sale of products.  However, all stalls will be made available to SHCians only.

Suggestions or ideas welcome.  However, please do not be disappointed if any idea is not taken up.  Have fun.  And, of course, if you raise your hands to offer assistance, I will be most pleased; but again, please do not be disappointed if I do not pick it up.  But, no harm, trying too.

The plan is to concide this Fleamart with the November monthly gathering.

  1. Last Year, I had a great time selling Kumquat Marmalade at the Flea Market. Make a lot of friends in the process.Thank you to all of you who gave me your kind support. I have been looking forward to this event since.
So May I be the First to register my attendance please.
This Year, I will bring to sell at the flea market, the same Kumquat Marmalade. Additionally, I will also put for sale, hand sewned tissue holder – with a useful message – it is cute, you will love it. More details later.
The kumquat marmalade will be hand carried over fm Perth just before the time of the Flea Mart. so I will be asking you for an indicative order at a later date to help me determind how many tubs to bring here. TQ.

  2. Hi Terence! Can you please elaborate on what you meant by ‘Commercial items or products’? If I bring in unique items from my overseas travels, will it fall under the barred items?

Hou Chong, I missed your Kumquat Marmalade the last time so I’ll be the first to place an order of 6 tubs from you. Hope the quantity is okay with you….:p

    Cheers
    Ros

  3. Hi Hou Chong, your Kumquat Marmalade jams bring back memories of the last FleaMart. Very nice of you to kickstart this event with something sweet.

Hi Rosalind, we have only individual membership; no corporate members. You have some items from overseas; that’s fine. Used condoms from overseas? Also can. Have fun.

    Terence Seah

  4. Hi Terence
Thank you for bringing back the Flea Market this year. I recalled you had v interesting items on offer last year and it was fun watching Sam doing his bit to promote birth control..haha. Any outrageous items in the pipeline?
    Hi Rosalind
Thank you for your early orders of 6 tubs of kk marmalade. Yes, the qty is ok, definitely. This year’s crop is in abundance and beautiful too bec of the exceptional weather.

  5. it is pretty certain the November monthly gathering will coincide with this year’s Fleamart. The date is Sat 20 Nov 2010 0900 – 1500 hrs.

The idea is to have a big fleamart, where the stalls are accessible to the public too. We shall aim to keep the fleamart beautiful, simple and noisy. We shall have only 15 stalls.

Now, for the fun part. I havent decided on the place. Of course, I am open to suggestions.

As for me, my used condoms will be sold out way before teh fleamart. So, I am bringing in new products. Swim suits from Haikou? Dolly, you can help me. yeah?

  6. Hi Hou Chong,

Better be kiasu ! Pls. reserved for me 6 tubs of Kumquat Marmalade. The last time I tasted it . Mo tak theng! It is deliciously heavenly. :) unlike those marmalades that i bought from supermarkets. I love the crunchy longer slices of KQuat slices immersed in the gelatinous mm. :)

Isn’t it wonderful HC ? The stalls aren’t ready and your orders keep coming in fast and furious. !

  7. Hi Terence,
Pls reserve one stall for me. Eventually if not enough stalls for everyone, can share the stall with anyone who is interested. Thanks

    Hi Hou Chong,
Pls reserve five tubs kk marmalade for me. Thanks.
    Yatsing

  8. Hou Chong,

I like your kk marmalade, no preservative & its organic…I just love it! I am giving some to my aged parent to taste it. So 6 tubs for me please.

    Ah Nee

  9. Hi everybody participating in the fleamart,

I encourage you to allow product preview, so that you can take orders before the fleamart day. For example, see the swim suits that I am getting from HaiKou, then if the price is acceptable, it can be bought in tine for the fleamart. You may use URL to show the products on the Post, provide that’s what you intend to sell at the fleamart.

Please note any advertising outside this Post will be deleted. So, stick to this Post only.

    Have fun.

    Terence Seah

  10. Hi Terence,

I would like to “chope” one stall to sell my Sambal Achar.

    Hi Hou Chong,
I would like to reserve one tub of KK Marmalade.

    Cheers,
    Constance

  11. Hi Hou Chong,

James, borrowed his post. Thanks James.

As mentioned to you during last mth’s walk at Bt Timah Nature last mth, have ordered 6 tubs. Pls let me know what is the cost and when is the collection?

    susan tan

  12. Hi Hou Chong and Terence

Hou Chong. I missed out your marmalade last year, would like to order 4 tubs please.

Terence, please chope a table for me.

  13. Hello StevenC, Yat Sing, Ah Nee, Constance Wong, Susan Tan, Henry Yip and Agnes Seow
Thank you for your kind support, all your orders are noted. The orders over the last 3 days are brisk and took me by surprise actually. TQ., StevenC#7 and Ah Nee#10 for the positive previews. Yes the kumquats are organic, the marmalade is delicious and no preservatives or artificial colouring are added. The kumkuat marmalade is not available on the market. I am selling them for $5 per tub (major cost is probably courier).

I have on hand about 50 orders, some coming thro pte e mails and will stop taking orders at 60, ie 10 tubs remaining. My apologis but the constraint is in bringing them over – still checking with couriers at the moment.
    HC

  14. Hi Hou Chong,

I like the Kumquat Marmalade. I could not remember the qty I ordered the last nite, 5 or 6?? Sign of getting OLD. If you don’t mind, can I have 8? Will collect on that day.

    Thanks.
    Susan Tan

  15. Hi Hou Chong

Although I have not tasted it before but reading all the good comments, cannot miss the chance of trying a good and healthy food .. so would like to order 5 tubs pls… (^_^)

    Hope I’m not too late… **(^_^)**

    Thanks – Pauline

  16. Well done Hou Chong. I really hope others will learn from you, from trials to marketing to retailing. Very successful concept. Don’t forget next year’s sales.

I hope some of us will learn from HC, develop your concept further and be able to create a sizeable business for one’s retirement. Guess I too will be comfortable will $1000 a month for my retirement. Of course, we can also work until we are no fit and healthy.

HC, thank you for showing the way. I must now readjust my used condoms’ conept.

    Terence Seah

  17. Kumquat Marmalade sold out?, Ok now I sell at $6.50- hahahaa just joking. Wonder if HC has already appointed a local agent, may be a another idea for SHC hehe

  18. Hi Hou Chong,

Any chance to squeeze in 2 more tubs also…

Btw, why stop at kumquat….how about the other fruits that Australia is famous for…peaches, strawberries, nectarines etc…

  19. Hi Susan Tan,
Thanks – your orders of 8 are noted.
    Hi Henry,
Good idea, lets appoint an agent and also start a KK futures market, an opportunity to learn the ropes from the ground up..hehe.
    Hi Jonathan,
Thanks, your orders of 2 are noted. I have been thinking abt other pdts too – maybe one day, I will bring natural unprocessed Kumquat Honey, How’s that?. Will have to start looking for a Queen Bee to woo soon.
    HC

  20. Re the charges for the Fleamart stalls, really I haven’t figure it out yet. But, very likely will be $10 for a small table space.

I am sure we will come up with a space large enough for our monthly gathering and the fleamart. Let’s keep thinking.

    Terence Seah

  21. Hi Pauline Ho, Yew Kwong and Janie Leong,
Strangely, I missed seeing your orders previously when I read this post around 5.40pm, you can imagine how exciting this biz is becoming..hehe. Thank you – I have taken note of your orders – 12 in all.
YK, thanks for helping me keep tap of the numbers and as you can see, owing to my oversight, the orders have now exceeded the 60 limit..oops.

To all, Sorry, I have to close the orders for Kumkuat Marmalade for this year. Thank you for your kind understanding and support.

    Hi Terence,
The sale of Kumquat Marmalade in SHC Flea Mart has once again turned out to be v fast. Somewhere, somehow, something is right..mmm, must think about it. Thanks for the opportunity.
    HC

  22. Hey Hou Chong,

I am aware that all your kumquat marmalade have sold out, it is possible for me to order 6 tubs if you have intention to sell some more.

    Thank you.

    Judy

  23. Dear Hou Chong

No worries about “missed seeing my order” but many thanks for acknowledging and “taken note” of them… (^_~)

Yaaayy…. can’t wait to introduce and share your special and healthy kumquat marmalade with my family and friends….

    **d(^_^)b**

  24. Hi Judy #33 and Annto #35,
Much as I liked to, I really can’t obliged, regrets –there is no stock left. However, if something shd come up, you will on the priority list.
Thank you for your kind support and interest.

  25. Hi DollyL,

if you are coming to the oct monthly gathering, please try to contact the Hans manager. I am almost out the whole of Oct. Discuss with her if it is possible to have the Flea mart cum Nov monthly gathering at Hans. I would like to evaluate if the Flea tables can be placed just outside the cafe. If yes, i might like to do this event long term. Thank you.

    Terence Seah

  26. Besides Hans at Upper Pickering, we are also looking at Pek Kio market as well as Safra Jurong lobby. Some documentation and approval process needed. But, it is mostly we will hold the Flea market at Safra Jurong Lobby, subject to date approval.

Meantime, those who are planning to run a flea stall, please let me know the category of products you intend to sell. No more stalls available, however, you may share with those who have already registered.

The monthly gathering for Nov will be held at the same day.

    Terence Seah

  27. Terence,
Safra Jurong, what I know is dat tis plc is not so easily accessible thru’ public xport leh.. hence, will there b enuff crowd for flea mart cum monthly gathering har? Cheers… Dolly

  28. Dear Terence,

Safra Jurong is at the other end of Singapore for me as I live in the East. :(

If the date is firmed up as the 20th Nov I might have to give up my table as I’ve been invited to go on a Cruise from the 19th to 21st Nov.

As for Hou Chong’s marmalade I’ll get a fellow member to collect from him and also pay him.

If any members wish to take over my table please indicate here and Terence will decide who to give it to.

    Cheers
    Ros

  29. Hi Dolly, your feedback is noted. We are awaiting confirmation on the use of the place. Today, we have no other acceptable venues. If confirmed, we are likely to give the venue a try, somewhere in the west of Singapore, on a Sat morning and afternoon.

Hi Rosalind, sure your request noted.

    Terence Seah

  30. Hi Rosaline,
I have arranged for the Kamquat Marmalade to arrive in Spr by mid Nov. or earlier. Once in, I will attempt to have them delivered / collected within days so as to ensure no loss of quality. Once again, thank you for your kind support.
    HC

  31. Hi HC,

In my #29, I ordered 8 and you have acknowledged. I have got sms 2 weeks ago about the KK Marmalade. Tot I was communicating with you thru sms. Last Thur nite, I arrange for the jam to be passed to me at Kembangan CC. To my surprise, Norlinda called me to deliver 1 tube of jam. Now what happening? Kamquat Marmalade to arrive in Spr by mid Nov. or earlier.

If you do not have enuf, I can order less or I wan to lesser than 8 tubs. Will I still receive my order of 8. I am very confused????

Norlinda, cannot you pay. Will pay you when I meet? If you don wan to take the $5, you treat u makan makan when meet. Pls do not reject. Oki oki.

    susan tan

  32. Hi Susan #50,
Your order on #22 above was for 8 pks and these have been put aside for you. As for the sms which you rec’d 2 wks ago, it was not from me. Sorry for any confusion but frankly, I am not aware of what is going on at all. See you in Nov.
    HC

  33. Hi Hou Chong,

The sms I received on the 27 Oct was 9xxxx375. The sender did not sign off his/her name. Instantly, I tot it was from you cos the content was mentioning KK Marmalade. I arranged to put up at Chomp Chomp, remembering once I went to your pl with James and the reply was the person residing i East.

    Thank anyway, for the reservation.

    Cu at the flea market!

    susan tan

  34. Alamak!…let me explain the situation.

    Susan@50..
Sori la…the marmalade is from me.One day my dear fren AhNee called me…she got few tubs of the jam,& asked me whether i want any? So,I recalled, you like it so much the last time u ordered & ever asked me how to order again..
that was quite sometime ago…i think.
I msg you thinking u shud have my hp number in your fone?..
haha…no wonder when u asked me is it 8 tubs…i was puzzle??..lagi blur when u asked me to meet up at chomp chomp, when im residing in the east…apa macam!
Sori again…i really dinno about your marmalade order in this forum…
I gave u out of goodwill, bcos i really cherish you & James for being so nice, stayed with me when we were stranded at ChiangMai ….remember?..this story seem ‘lor soh’…haha

    HouChong@51..
Sori for the confusion..don mean to interrupt your kumquat bizness..ooppss! :)

  35. A few members have been helping us source for a venue for the fleamart. However, we have not had much success. But, we will not give up. Fleamarts are an opportunity under Blue Helmet that we should not give up.

So far, I have learnt that it is not possible to set up fleamarts, even though there may be available places. I guess society has still not accepted garage sales and fleamarts as a fun event. There may be a need to join up with one of the existing fleamarts that exist around the city, during the weekend.

As the date for the coming Nov monthly gathering cum fleamart draws near, we shall now take the decision that the fleamart is off, for this month.

My apology to Hou Chong and to other members who have prepared their fleamart items for sale.

Meantime, I shall announce in a few days the venue for the Nov monthly gathering.

    Terence Seah

  36. Hi Terence

Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to organise a fleamarket. I missed the one that was organised by Dan Huang sometime last year or the year before. I’m a fan of fleamarkets and always manage to get vintage or retro jewellery, bags and even a quaint lampshade in UK.

    Hou Chong

I hope that we are still able to buy your marmalade, please advise how we could pick up from you, really looking forward to enjoy this special treat.

    Kam siah.

    Cheers
    Agnes

  37. Hi Terence

noted re the cancellation. if you need help i can contact 1 or 2 fleamart/bazaar organisers for you to negotiate with them (but normally the venue is not good for meeting – just selling ok whether at factory/shop.ctr/wet mkt/office premises) and per table is $30-$80/day.

  38. Hi Frisna #57,

Yes, I think you have an excellent idea. Perhaps, we can have a fleamart or just a few fleamart stalls, under the SilverHairsClub. Some of us can combine, sell our stuffs, share the stalls and enjoy the day.

Let’s try it. Yes, I shall be in touch with you in two weeks. time.

    Terence Seah

  39. Hi Terence,

About the Fleamart, here is another opportunity for those who are interested to earn some $$$$$….

There is this Christmas Fiesta at Kovan Hub which I want to make known to our fellow SHCians. Here’s the details…

    Location – Kovan Hub

    Date – 11th December 2010 (Saturday)

    Time – 10.00 am to 8.00 pm

Main event – Christmas Show put up by the Churches (6pm to 8pm)

Bazaar Stores – Selling of different merchandise at the side of the stage

One stall – (one table and chair) – rental is $15 for this event

Michael Tan told me that on that day, it will be very crowded, many people will be coming plus the newly renovated food court will attract many diners. So business should be good! I am thinking of getting a table but don’t know what to sell leh….

    Ah Nee

  40. halo ah nee jie ,

    Terence Seah

  42. Anna Seet, I can help you to book 1 table.

Ah Pui Sam, we can share a table lor, what are you selling huh? I am still thinking of what to sell….hmmmm…something that cost very little but can sell for a huge profit…hehehe….

Thank you for your interest and kind support.

  48. Hi Ah Nee & other flea mart enthusiasts,

Good news! Re. The flea mart at Kovan Hub on Sat 11 Dec. – the rental per booth (a table and a chair)is only $8!!! for personal rental and the hours are from 10am – 9pm. Really cheap! :)

I’m looking for someone to share by taking over a booth for the time slot 3.30pm – 9p.m. I’ll take the time slot 10am – 3.30pm. Anyone keen?

    Cheers,

  49. Hi Jassmine,

I think there are some misunderstanding between the CC staff and you during your enquiry. The $8 rental per booth for the Flea Mart at Kovan Hub, apply only to residence staying around Kovan. To take the advantage of cheap rental, I can help the Flea Mart enthusiast plus you to register under my name. How about that? Let me know :)

    Ah Nee

  50. Hi Ah Nee # 72,

No misunderstanding. I’ve already paid up ($8) for one stall.

Didn’t know you are prepared to book on our behalf. Hope more members participate in the flea mart. We can then look out for one another. :)

  51. Hi Huo Chong #66

No worries about the late reply. Please email me at aggieseow@gmail.com with regards to the collection of the marmalade.

Looking forward to receiving them, a delicious treat for my family. Spread thickly on a piece of hot toasted bread. Yum Yum.

    Thanks

    Cheers.
    Agnes

  52. Hi Rosalind,

I will book a table for you. Now we have Jassmine Teo, Anna Seet, Ah Nee(Share with Sam & Lily) and yourself. If more SHCians are coming….hehehe….we can actually have our own party & FUN. :)

    Ah Nee

  53. Hi Agnes #76
I have just written a note to you by pte e-mail. Sorry my previous mail to you was send to your other gmail address. Look fwd to hearing fm you.
    Kind regards,
    HC

  54. Hello (1) Yat Sing (2) Jonathon Ong (3)Judy Lim.

I’ve not been able com. with you on E-mail. Grateful if you wld kindly contact me with regards to the delivery/collection of your orders of kumquat marmalade. My e mail address is on #5 of the post “SilverHairsClub Key holders”.

I will go to Brastilava Café on Thursday afternoon for a discussion and also pass thro the Café on Sat morning on my way to attend a course. IF you wished, I cld have the marmalade delivered there for your collection. Kindly let me know.

You urgent attention is much appreciated. Thank you. I would like to sell the uncollected marmalade to others by next week.
    HC

  55. For the month of November, we have not organised a date for the the Nov monthly gathering, which we had originally intended to run concurrently with the Fleamart. The fleamart did not take off because of difficulty in securing a venue for reasons of costs, procedures and and size. But, we wont give up.

However, I have to thank Ah Nee for forming small groups, and joining other fleamarts with other organisations. This is real effort and inertia on the part of fleamart participants. Let’s support them on the 11 Dec at Kovan. Whether it is for fun or making some dollars, it is a great start to helping ourselves. Thank you Ah Nee, Jassmine, Rosalind, Sam,Norlinda and Anna. Your participation will encourage others to participate in fleamarts too.

And, Hou Chong, I apologise that the cancellataion of the fleamart has caused you plenty of inconvenience. I am aware of the difficulty of locating buyers of the kamquat jam, rescheduling delivery and figuring out what to do if otherwise. However, I think you have knocked upon a unique idea. You have successfully presold all the goodies before the fleamart date. Wonderful.

Sorry, there wont be a monthly gathering this month.

We are now working with Frisna on the Dec month gathering. In dec, members have many programs. We may have clashing dates too. Do you have a view?

    Terence Seah

  56. Hi Terence #84,

I believe you wanted to compliment the flea mart participants on their “effort” and not on their “inertia”. (re. #84 – 2nd para. 2nd line). :)

Flea marts are colourful events and a good opportunity to nurture an entrepreneurial spirit. So here’s wishing all flea mart vendors on 11/12 hao3 shou1 huo4 (good harvest!) :)

  57. Hi Jassmine #85,

I did get the feeling I had used the wrong word “inertia”. Thanks for pointing it out. So, let’s keep the colorful event going.

    Terence Seah

  58. The word “inertia” appears in this sentence :

“This is real effort and inertia on the part of fleamart participants”

in the context of wanting to continue with achieving the the objective of doing a task.

Thus, “inertia” which also means a “continuation of a force until it is stopped by an opposite force” is correctly used in the context where it appears.

  59. Hou chong#82
Am not in S’pore so unable to pickup fm Bra. Pse ga to offer the 2 tubs to others who are interested. Apologies for any inconveniences too.
    Jonathan

  60. Further to my #82 above, I am pleased to have rec’d all the response and thus, finalised the distri. of the kk marmalade. Like last year, demand exceeded supply which makes life easier for me..hehe. KK “diplomacy” has again enabled me to meet some members for the 1st time – wonderful.
From feedback rec’d, the 2010 marmalade is thicker. Reason being that there are more kumquats (per tub) used this year and it has resulted in diff cooking time. Hope you find them nice (or as nice, for 2nd timers) anyway.
Thank you everyone for your kind support – it has been enjoyable for me. My special thanks goes to Charles Chua and Tian Soo for helping me carry the kk in fm Perth and to Terence for making it possible.
    #88 – Jonathon – no worries, tks.
    HC

  61. RE. #87

The argument is based on the technical meaning of inertia, but used loosely to mean “wanting to continue with…”.

There is more to inertia than ‘a continuation of a force until it is stopped by an opposite force’. Inertia is the latent force in a matter that RESISTS change to its motion, including the state of rest.

‘…and inertia on the part of the flea mart participants.’ If this phrase means the inertia of the flea mart participants (with ref to wanting to keep the flea mart alive )- it is not their inertia; it’s their effort and …?

  62. It is now admitted that “Inertia is the latent force in a matter that RESISTS change to its motion” so how can it ever, in a state of motion, inlcude a “state of rest”?

15 folks had each signed up for a stall and have set the matter of a flea mart in motion, have given the matter a momentum which is continued, albeit on a lesser scale, and that was why the compliment was given.

A spade is a spade. One can argue that it’s not a spade but a sexy ah pek, it’s ok with me. It’ll be interesting to see what she can do and get out of a spade, insisting that it is a sexy ah pek.

  63. re. # 92

Consider another definition of inertia: the tendency of a body (matter) to RESIST ACCELERATION.

The 15 fm participants started the flea mart ball rolling because they had OVERCOME their inertia (the latent force in their bodies that has the tendency to RESIST …)with their EFFORT, a force greater than their inertia.

state of rest = state of no motion. ‘Rest’ is at one extreme end in the continuum of the state of motion. If a body is at rest, its inertia will resist any change to get it to move….if the body moves, it’s because another force has overcome its inertia.

  64. The backpage of today’s ST says “keep a close eye”. “Close” must mean “shut” since you know of no other meaning than that which is the common meaning. Therefore you’ll close your eye and that’s simple but how you keep it, I dunno, dont care.

Similarly, if someone tells you that you are screwed, you panick and look for a screw that may be somewhere in you. Know the other meaning and you know that you’re in an untidy situation.

I shall leave you to wallow in yr circuitous argument and move my heels clean from harm’s way.

    ?????????????? ???????????????

  65. Hi Jassmine, Tim,

We have learnt alot about the word “inertia” from your conversation exchanges.

For a long time, we have wanted to organise our own fleamarts. We had the interests, we tried, but we were unable to take it off the way we wanted. So, fleamart was at gear zero, stationary, no movement, tak boleh jalan.

Then, came Ah Nee. She suggested the idea to take up a fleamart stall, and join an existing fleamart group, organised by a bigger organisation. The idea attracted a few more SHCians. And, they are now going to each have a fleamart stall on the 11 Dec 2010 at Kovan. So, fleamart went into gear 1 and gear 2. The idea gained momentum. We overcomed the inertia of not moving anywhere.

I shall avoid using such words in future.

I think your humility is one of your personal qualities that contributes to your popularity. :)

Re. flea mart – if there are members who inform the flea mart special interest group about up-coming flea marts, i think it’s good enough to keep this activity alive in SHC.

i also hope one day the flea mart special interest group could meet for tea to share experience/info. ‘incubate’ ideas… etc. as we all share a common interest in selling.

  67. Calling for Ah Pui Sam……where are you? Can you telephone me with regards to Norlinda’s “barang barang” for the Flea Mart on 11 Dec.

  69. Just visited a farmers’ market this morning at Loewen Gardens. A cosy covered mkt nestled betw colonial buildings, franked by tall trees in Dempsey Rd vicinity. There were wines, organic veg,. fruits, pastries etc on display. If anyone is in the Flea mkt mood on 11 Dec, you may want to visit both Kovan Flea Mkt and also this one called Yule Market at 75E Loewen Rd via Dempsey Rd. I understand that there will be over 30 retailers and live carols singing to fill the atmosphere with christmas spirit. A good place to enjoy yr morning coffee too. Enjoy

  70. Hi Hou Chong #100,

Very nice of you to share your fleamart find. Would you know if this is a monthly event or a one-off event.

And, if anyone is going to Yule Market, pleae share your experience and observations. We might pick up a new direction.

    Terence Seah

  71. Hi Terence #101
The Farmers’ Market is held twice a month. The 11th Dec mkt is probably a major one. Many retailers are expat and their merchandise are beautifully displayed – in foreign f/mkt. fashion. You can expect to find things like organic breads, wines, org/veg., fruits, org/jams chutney, cakes n pies, beers, nuts, hams, cheeses, choc truffles, oils, spices vegn. ice cream, healthy green smoothies besides jewellery, beads, toys , gifts, handmade soaps etc..but no Kumquat Marmalade..hehe. It is possible to book a table to sell your goods too. The mkt is fm 8.30am to 2pm. For those driving, enter Minden Rd fm Holland/Napier Rd, turn right into Hardy Rd and then left turn into Loewen Rd -parking is closeby and free.

  72. Hi Hou Chong #102,

Your description of the fleamart fits exactly what I have been looking for. Something which I also think is suitable for SilverHairs and SHC.

Calling all fleamart enthusiats. If SHC takes a permanent stall, we can also have other members join in, maybe each with his/her own stall. For those who are interested, take the cue from Hou Chong, go and have a look.

Meantime, today, I just went to a fleamart in Perth, and got myself 5 old CDS, each 1 AUD each, 1 pretty jacket to shield the wind once in a while and a coat hanger for AUD 5. All very nice.

Hou Chong, any idea how much it costs per stall? And, thanks for the feedback.

  74. Hi Hou Chong

I’ve been to the Loewen Farmers Market and enjoyed it. Bought some organic pestos, lemon tarts and raisins. Very delciious and I like the atmosphere. Reminds me of the Sunday Farmers Market in Canberra. Only thing is here, its on a smaller scale.
You can also have scones and coffee :)

Those who have not been there, go and have a look see.
    Enjoy!

    Carly

  75. Hi Terence #103
The lady at “thepantrycookeryschool” wanted to know what we have in mind to bring to the market. Suppose we can talk to her at a later time when we are ready.

    Steven #104
You are spot-on with those websites. Thanks – I found them informative too.

    Caroline #105
Glad to hear that you find the mkt enjoyable too., I think that it is so charming. I had a cornish pie and a cuppacino there for bkfast, A refreshing change fm my usual.

  77. Hello Sam Huat #107

Good idea to ring a bell to attract ppl to your stall. I’ll bring my vuvuzela! lol!

    To all:
in case you’re interested – among the things i’m selling are special eco friendly cards each with a real fish hook attached, @ $1.50 ea. u write whatever msg you want. In IT age, it’s getting more and more difficult to receive REAL cards, so why not surprise your friends with REAL greeting cards? lol!

The other interesting item is a longish, 2nd hand rosewood (with 3 ‘jade’ pc on top) jewellery box. A thing of beauty in my opinion and it’s priced at $15.

    ok, c u all on SAT. :)

    Cheers!

  78. Hi everybody,
If you have time, join a few of our SHC friends at the Kovan Fleamart this Sat. I am very supportive of fleamarts, as an event which SHCians can participate on a regular basis. I look forward to your feedback when the event is over. Perhaps, you will come up with something refreshing, interesting and maybe rewarding.

    Sam #107,
Sure, do go ahead with the SHC banner. I wish you sell all your barang2, in support of charity work. Sorry, cannot join you and fleas.

    Jassmine #108,
We will follow up on Hou Chong’s find. So, you should find your special niche products too.

Enjoy the festivities. And, thank you Hou Chong and Caroline.

  80. Hey Sam Huat @# 111,

How come your pow kow didn’t mention me and my ‘vuvuzela’? We didn’t make an impression is it? …..just joking.

It was a good experience for me and i enjoyed talking with the pple who came to my stall :) The lunch-time crowd was not as big as expected, hence there was no flea mart atmosphere.

Anyway, will participate in a flea mart again if the venue is convenient for me.
