Foot for taut in JB – December 17, 2010

Dear folks,emoticon

It’s all started with Tian Soo’s post on foods and after several foods outing we decided to explore further. Along came Daniel Chan’s idea of seeking massage kakis so we decided to merge the two together and ended up with going beyond our boundary.

When I asked Daniel Chan for an apt heading, he coined the caption above. The response is pretty good for a weekday event. It’s the time of the year where most are in a festive mood. So here we are all ready to conquer JB.

This will be a full day affair. We are going for massage, curry fish head lunch, shopping and either Beggar’s Chicken or Zi char or seafood dinner, you decide!

Meet at 9.00am at Kranji MRT, we will take a bus in to City Square and take taxis to Holiday Plaza. There is also a new Shopping Centre and ‘chomp chomp’ nearby. Dun worry about the white cards as we will get them at the Malaysian immigration point.

Registration will closed when we hit 20 pax. Group leaders will be, Dan, Daniel, James and Lawrence.

  1. Will help in leading the group but am not staying for dinner.
Have a member’s nite party at “The Grassroots Club” with free flow of food and beer. Any TGC members going? Will meet you there.

  5. Hi to all JB regulars.Anyone keen to rent a terrace house in JB.Nearby to JUSCO,Tesco, it is in a gated and guarded vicinity.I am the owner and my tenant is moving out end of this month.

    Cheers

    Daniel

  6. Hi DanielK #8,

    cheers

    Daniel(JB PR)……:)

  8. Today Joy and I took a drive to JB, parked the car at the new immigration point known as CIQ. We realised how easy it is to take the bus from Kranji MRT. At the JB immigration we can alight and walk through a bridge linking the CIQ to City Square.

City Square is bustling with all kind of shops, you can find almost any products here. Lot of boutiques and eating outlets. The right place to do some Christmas shoppings.

We took a cab which cost RM6.00 only to Holiday Plaza, most of the shops are closed and we suggest not to visit here.

The itinerary for our coming trip:
9.00am Take a bus to CIQ from Kranji MRT.
10.00am-1330 Karoeke at Neway Karoeke Bar at RM10.00++ per person which includes Buffet salad.
1.00pm Curry fishhead lunch at JLn Wong Ah Foot
2.30pm Shopping or manicure or pedicure or hair saloon.
4.30pm We take taxis to KSL City for massage and more shopping
6.30pm Dinner at Seafood Restaurant or Taiwanese Restaurant nearby.
    8.00pm Head for home.

Those keen for karoeke please indicate as we need to do a booking, those not keen may go for massage or shopping or go for a show at City Square.

    Dan, Joy, Daniel

  9. Hi Dan, Daniel
My wife Lilian Koh and I will like to join in. Meet you all at Kranji MRT. Hope you can accomodate us. Bty, not interested in karoeke.
    Thanks.

    Koh Tong Seng

  10. Hi..first of all, thank you Dan, for organising this trip. Next I want to thank all concerned for the overwhelming response. Not forgeting Lawrence who was first to respond, and agreed to help. Thank you Lawrence.

Now some useful tips for taking a bus from Kranji to JB.

    1. Outside the Kranji station, wait for bus 160 or 170
    2. Hop on the bus and flash your ezlink card for ENTRY
    3. At the Singapore Immigration, get down and flash your card for EXIT
    4. After clearance from Singapore Immigration, hop on to 160 or 170 (not necessarily the same bus you have taken from Kranji)- flash card for ENTRY
    5. The bus crosses the causeway to Malaysia side.
    6. At the Malaysia Immigration, flash your card for EXIT.

Sometimes they let you enter by the back door so remember to flash it anyway. If you forget to flash, I don’t know how the bus company will penalise you but why take the risk ?

As we have a big crowd, some of us may get “misplaced” due to immigration and custom clearance – or taking a different bus because of ovecrowding (there are ground officers limiting the number of passengers per bus). So, at Kranji, we will have a briefing and divide members into groups, each under a leader.

Our first task is to get everybody to reach the CIQ in Johor Bahru. I am not very familiar with JB, so Dan will brief us further when we assemble there.

By the way, for shopping these are useful items that sell cheaper than in Singapore,

    1. Dry cells (batteries) made in Malaysia
    2. Coffee powder produced in Malaysia
    3. Fruits and vege harvested in Malaysia

Imported products are not necessarily cheaper than in Singapore. Do your homework. Don’t carry heavy loads back when you don’t save much, perhaps pay even more.

    CHEERS !!

  11. If we got separated after the Singapore CIQ, we will regroup after the JB CIQ.
We can meet at the Tour Agent Office on the left side after JB Custom Checkpoint. It is just before the branch off to overhead bridge to City Suare(left) and bus stop(straight & right).
Was trere about 2 months back, Hopefully there are no changes.

  12. DanZ #11,

Where is KSL city and how far from City Sq?
If it’s a new place can we leave right after lunch so that
    more time for shopping/massage/exploring.

Btw, if not going to Holiday Plaza for massage, there’s
2 massage shops at City Sq. One, the Thai Odessey that many
ppl know. Another a smaller one which offers foot massage
at RM45 per hr and foot/body massage at RM60. Another option
    for you to ponder.

  13. Hi Dan and Daniel

I’m sorry that I’ll not be able to join in the trip to JB this coming Friday.

Wishing all of you an enjoyable trip and I hope that I’ll be able to join in some other time.

    Cheerss…………
    Gabriella

  14. Hi JB fans,

Maybe the next time if its a small group of five, I do not mind bringing you around as I have a MPV.For cheaper veggies, prawns….etc,it is cheaper at the Pandan Mkt.Like Daniel mentioned, not all things are cheap here.If I can be if help,do write….cheers

    JB PR

  15. Hi Daniel,Lawrence,

Thanks for the suggestion, glad that we have able group leaders to help around.

Steven, appreciate the link to the website for all the good foods found in JB.

    Gabriella, we will miss you!

James, we will probably have our massage at Thai Odyssey. City Square is the place to shop because it is almost as large as our Marina Centre. KSL City which just opposite to Holiday Plaza was just opened last Saturday and good to shop around as we are heading for our seafood dinner nearby.

Daniel Kang, thanks for the kind offer. We shall take it on should we decide to come back. Maybe you could suggest a good place for us to go for seafood dinner?

    Dan, Daniel

  16. Hi Daniel Kang,

Where in JB may we know you are staying and how do we get to this seafood restaurant. We have in mind to eat at Century Jimbo Restaurant on Jalan Pelandok, Taman Century which just opposite Holiday Plaza.

Margaret Chan, email me at ‘danhuang7728@gmail.com’ for my mobile contact. We also appreciate if all those who are coming send us a note with your mobile contact!

    Dan

  17. Hi Daniel-K

Good to know that you are the JB PR.

Though I am hardly (like never) there, it’s nice to know you are within reach.

If I should visit with a small group, would certainly like to meet up.

  18. Hi DanH,

My place is behind Thistle(formerly Hyatt), it’s about 8-10mins from City Square. The road’s name is Jalan Abdul Samad,it’s just behind Thistle Hotel.

Hi Geraldine,no worries,if you are thinking of coming in to JB,do write.

    G’day

    DK

  19. Hi DanielK,

It would be good if we can meet this Friday at 10.30 am at City Square. Can you bring some of us to the seafood restaurant you recommended to make a booking?

This would also be a wonderful opportunity for all of us to meet our dear JB PR, how dat?

    Dan, Daniel, Joy

  20. Hi DanH,

I think it shouldn’t be a problem meeting up with you @ City Square Friday 10.30am.I can show you the place, and can ask the boss to reserve the tables for all of you, we happen to know him.

Looking forward to meeting up with you.

    Dk

  21. Confusing huh ? ?
I mean we have DH, DK and DC writing.
Find out who is who at City Square 17 Dec.

    I have changed $100 for RM236 – is it a good rate ?

    DC

  22. Hi DanielK,

Thanks, we shall meet at Neway karoeke lounge at 10.30am. This is a rare ocassion where Daniel Kang, Daniel Chan and Daniel Wong will meet at Jb town with about 25 SHCians for fun, food, massage and shopping1

DanielC, the rate seem okay. There are about half a dozen money changers at the CIQ in JB.

    Dan Huang aka Daniel Wong

  23. JB rate is always 1-2 ringgit lower than SG.
So it’s better to change here, esp if big amount.
Today’s rate is 2.39, so it’s a good time to change
a handful before hitting the causeway.

  24. DC/DH aka DW!/DK?
    So sad ….sob*…sob#…sob^…
Will not be able to join you people for this JB trip….
So, enjoy yourselves people … a very big crowd, so keep together …. and dun stray into back-lane alleys with little red lanterns hanging at the doors …. kekekekkekee

  25. Dear Dan and Daniel

Sorry that I seem so fickle-minded. But it’s not easy being a new GM – thought my help is required.. keke.

Hope it is not too late for me to join in the trip tomorrow.

See you all at Kranji MRT station at 9 am? Can?

Will bring Malaysian $ and passport, Dan will provide a white immigration care for me.

    Thank you & regards,
    Gabriella

  26. Hi James,

Thanks for the tip on the exchange rate, we shall all get our money converted right here.

Ivan, it just a day trip, come lah!

Gabriella, no worries, we are so glad you are coming.

As of now we have on record about 27 pax coming, so folks see you tomorrow at Kranji MRT at 9.00am sharp. We will invade JB.

Thanks Lawrence for your suggestion as to where to meet should we break off. There are 10 guys in the group whose responsibility is to look after all the gals!

We also look forward to meet Daniel Kang, our dear JB PR who is recommending a seafood restaurant to us for dinner!

    Danz4Joy!

  27. DH aka DW #35,
No passport leh! My passport still with Travel Agent for the Biz Visa processing at Myanmar Embassy in Singapore….
Will only get it back 2moro … which means it is too late to join you people lah! sob*…sob#…sob^

  28. Gabriella, that white card is YOURS. Can I fill in your particulars ? Send by email lah…don’t tell everybody. Haha

On a serious note – ladies and gentlemen, and esp ladies – be mindful of your personal possession. Not advisable to hold wallet or purse in hand. Sling bags ahould be diagonally across the body. A small amount of cash will do (RM200 to 500 depending on your shopping) and keep your jewellery and diamonds at home. Walk against the flow of traffic and keep a distance from approaching motor cycles.

May not be that bad but I am the very kiasoooooo type. Better safe than sorry. See u people at Kranji tomorrow BEFORE 9 AM.

  29. Dear EO Dan / Daniel /Joy,

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to join “foot for taut in JB”. Due to unforseen circumstances, I have to withdraw the gathering.
Wishing all of you have an enjoyable trip .

    Best regards,

    Judy Lim

  30. Hi Ivan,

No worries, you may still join us from noon time as we are having lunch nearby City Square.

Gabriella, noted your interest in the karoeke session.

James and Judy, noted that both of yoou are not able to join us.

    Dan

  31. Hi Daniel #38

Just saw your note…too late liao… kekeke..

Fill up tmr lah… already 12.40 am. Must zzzz now and wake up at 4 am to get ready for the trip!

    Regards,
    Gabriella

  32. Hi Dan & Joy and Daniel Chan

Thank you so much for organising today’s trip to JB.

It was a wonderful trip and I really enjoyed it.

    Regards,
    Gabriella

  33. EOs, Dan, Daniel, Joy,

A big tku to all of you for that wonderful and cheap trip!

Cheap curry fish for M$13 each pax for lunch and M$24 for Seafood dinner! Tks to Daniel Kang & his wife Ping for delicious dinner!

Wat happened to others was unforseen for some who can’t find us!
Luckily, I know the place quite well to bring some to Kota Raya to buy some Vitamins fr Pharmacy!
Whilst gg back, we nearly land back to JB on our way to Immg again when the taxi dropped us at CIQ!

On the whole, it’s fun and tiring! The best of all is meeting many new friends esp Roy, Lilian, Ping & DanielKang!

  34. EOs Dan Huang, Joy, and Daniel Chan,

Thank you for organizing this JB day trip.

I’ve not been to JB for more than 15 years – JB has changed quite a bit since.

It was a lovely day – the weather was not too hot, as it was cloudy. Good for us, it did not rain.

I was happy to meet several new members, and was most delighted to catch up with several “old members” whom I have not seen since the 2009 September monthly gathering held at Gillman Heights last year. Everyone looked younger and healthier! I know it’s not easy to maintain our good looks (and good health). kekekekeke But – seriously – keep up the good work.

Everyone in the group – THANK YOU! I have enjoyed your company. It was an interesting and fun day.

I take this opportunity to thank Daniel Kang as well – for making time to meet up with us. It was nice meeting Daniel Kang and his wife, Ping.

    Daniel Kang –
Thank you for your hospitality. Please convey my (our) thanks to your wife, Ping. You have a lovely wife, she is good looking, talented, and gracious. You lucky fella – you must be the envy of most men! Yes – please do convey my compliments to Ping.

  35. HA ha thanks for all the kind compliments. Honestly, I do not know JB well so Dan H, and later Dan K, was instrumental in bringing everybody for the food and fun. If anything, I am glad I started this idea. Never knew the response could be so overwhelming. And now I know JB better.

Surprisingly, we were able to get seats for the curry fish head despite so many of us. Great food at economical price, no doubt about that. ENCORE !!!

My group of 5 was fantastic – cheerful, caring and co-operative. Hope to group again one day for a similar treat.

Till we meet again, a MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR !!

    DC

  36. EOs Dan, Daniel and Joy
Thank you all very much for organising the JB trip. It was great fun making new friends and going new places. My last trip to JB was like 2 yrs ago. Things have changed so much esp the CIQ and the surrounding areas. My wife Lilian and I had good company esp with Catherine Ho and Gabriella Chua and Lawrence who had to leave early due to family commitments.
Hope to have more outings with SHC members.
    Until then,WISHING ONE & ALL: A MERRY X’MAS & A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR.

    Roy & Lilian

  37. Danz, DanielC, DanielK,

I missed last Fri trip to JB due to some leave issue.
I plan to go on 27/12 which is a public holiday.

Any of you keen to organise one again?

    james

  38. EOs Dan Huang, Joy, and Daniel Chan,

Thank you all very much for organising the JB trip.
Have enjoy the company of all of you that were there.
Am sad to have missed the seafood dinner that evening.

    LLee

  39. As EOs we are glad that most of you enjoyed the trip ‘Foot for thot’ in JB. Certainly we want to acknowledge the help of Daniel Kang and his wife Ping who have arranged for us the seafood dinner and spending time with us.

We have one member that was lost in transit and deeply regret that it happened. All of us were put under a group leaders and if you choose to gallivant on your own, please inform you group leader.

23 of us met at the Kranji MRT and took bus 170 to JB. Daniel Chan wants an encore for the Curry fish curry, why not, we can look at another opportunity as James is crying out loud!

After lunch and coffee some went for massages, some took the taxis to Holiday Plaza and some went to KSL City and most went shopping. Some were so exhausted that looking for a resting place is so hard and decided to rest at any nook or corner.

Only 16 of us stayed for the seafood dinner which was cheap and good and we have a good times of fellowship with Daniel Kang and his wife Ping.

Next trip, I am planning is to Lake Kenyir in Trengganu. The date is set for April 22-25, 2011. We will probably go by train and coach.

    Dan, Daniel, Joy

  40. Hi Daniel Chan!

What do U mean that surprisingly we cd get seats at the coffee shop 4 “Curry Fish Head?”
When we arrived at City Sq @ 10.30am some wanted breakfast & some not in favour. I told DanH that if we go late, we wd not be able to have Curry Fish Head.
Luckily, DanH for once obliged me & asked all to go str to the coffee shop. We filled up almost the whole place b4 11am.

You were supposed to be our leader but after lunch, we cdn’t find U. Fortunately, Gab & I followed Lawrence’s grp instead. We went to Kota Raya b4 proceeding to Holi Plaza for massage.
Someone told me that U said U weren’t familiar wif JB,
and the moment we crossed the Immg, U remarked that yr duty is relinquished? Is it true?

  41. Hi Catherine Ho,

We appreciate your suggestion to go early for lunch. On my recce I found out there are two restaurants for curry fishhead, one is Kam Long on Jln Wong ah Foot and the other which is also well known is Kim Loong also nearby.

Daniel Chan’s comment that we could find seats is perfectly normal, which is thanks to your suggestion.

Anyone who lost his leader should inform me so that I may put him to another leader. Since some of you quite familiar with JB and manage to get around on your own I suggest you let the matter rest and let’s us learn from our mistake!

    Dan

  42. Hi Danz!

Tks 4 advice and it’s noted. Jux felt that there was some misunderstanding and didn’t want it to happen again. Thus wanted to clear the air. I don’t mean to be so “kaypoh.”

    Cheers!

  43. Hi..Cat Ho, so you were the one who was LOST? If u have followed this post closely, I have stated many times that I was not familiar with JB. Thank goodness you made it from Singapore to the Malaysia CIQ and my job was done. City Square is a big place so did you lose me or I lost you ?

In fact, once we cross the Malaysian immigration safely and after lunch, the 5 of us went our own way to pursue our own interests. My preference was clearly different from yours so why the need to stick together?

  44. Hi Dan C!

As a matter of fact, I didn’t get lost but brought some over to Koto Raya instead, ie if U did follow earlier comments.

Many moons ago, I used to drive into JB and this yr I had been there for “Karaoke sessions” a couple of times with other friends by public transport.

Maybe, I jumped at the conclusion too fast & for that I apologised if I had hurt your ego!
