  1. Wow, Yatsing. Your post is really short. I’ve heard of news in brief, but yours must be G-string brief …..

Haha…. I know lah. Hit the ‘Publish’ button instead of the ‘Save’ button right?

If you do not have the edit feature, just delete this post and re-write a new one. Hope you have better luck this time.

  3. Hi Jeff, Sue, Yatsing and Paul,
Last week, I was in Yangon with Ivan Lim. It was very much a business exploratory trip. Ivan had a schedule to visit the Myanmar Seafood Processing plant. The plant was clean, had ISO certification, temperature controlled operation and coldrooms. Staff had to wear caps and white suits, almost like in a hard-disk manufacturing plant. Visitors had to remove shoes, and put on boots.

In the plant, the staff, I think about 70 in total, sorted out the prawns into different sizes. Some sections were deveining the pranws while others removed the heads. The edible part of the prawn was 1/3 the size of the whole prawn. The head is disposed as animal feed.

In another area, the staff cleaned huge fishes, forgot the name, and removed the guts. After cleaning, the fishes were then packed and put into the coldrooms, before being shipped for exports to Europe, Japan and Taiwan.

It was a modern operation, and little would we expect to see such a plant in Myanmar, in an area, dedicated for seafood processing. I understand the seafood do not get exported to Singapore, and that the prawns are sold to Europe with a retail value of USD 500,000 per container. Of course, they are sold for a fraction of this amount. Sad, to see the huge prawn heads going off as animal feed. This is a great ingredient in prawn mee.

I hope one day, such trips would be one of the activities of the Round table and SHC business network. Who knows, some of you may see opportunities. It doesnt have to be seafood processing. And, it does not have to be in Myanmar.

All of you have a lot of experience. Keep your eyes and options open.

    Terence Seah

  4. Just wanting to have a clearer picture of what is the agenda? or is there already a previous agenda to follow through or someone tabling something new and specifically for what industry business in Yangon? Indonesia? China? Kangaroo country?
Maybe this will help folks to decide on attendance.. just asking…

  5. Hi Feztus,

    Your question is welcome.

The main objective : to serve as a business network platform for SHC members who are in business.

    Who should attend – entrepreneurs,
    – aspiring entrepreneurs,
    – people providing business services,
    – people with an interest in business in
    general.

At the Round Table meet, each member is welcome to present a business interest and/or table something new and specific, in any country.
At the moment, the group is getting to ‘know who is who, who is where, who is doing what and who can complement and synergise.
It is hoped that this free and easy business socialising will bear fruit for some members.’

Looking forward to have you join us on Jan 25.

  6. Hi Terence,
Prawn heads are good for prawn crackers and belachan too. Not sure whether they can be used in fish farms and crab rearing or organic fertilizer. Perhaps we may find some synergy there.
    .. Paul
