Anyone interested to participate in Drama (acting)?

"If you have SilverHairs at heart, and likes to organise activities for SHC"  –  I just joined SilverHairs a few minutes ago as I would like to lead a group of ‘Drama / Acting Enthusiasts’ in SHC. I had just finished my 3 years programme of ‘Theatre for Seniors’ with The Necessary Stage and had 3 public performance experiences. This 3yrs programme was encouraged & sponsored by Council for Third Age on ‘Active Aging’. I would love to meet up for a discussion so that I can share more on this and answer whatever queries before your club decide to start the class.  Cheers!

  1. Hi,

I am interested in Drama but I wish to let you know that I am a newbie and also I do not speak Mandarin. If you can accept me then I am game.

    Thank You.

  2. So nice to hear from you Mr Lee.
You are the first to respond, thank you very much!!
Do encourage your friends to join once SHC approve of this ‘drama’ activity.

It is very fun and multilingual, so not to worry that you dont speak Mandarin.
Infact, you will eventually learn to speak Mandarin after some time of hearing & interacting in class, just like some of my non- Mandarin speaking classmates before. By the second year, he’s doing Mandarin skits!

The drama stories are mostly based on ones personal life experiences – so its all very real. Its a mixture of dialogues, songs & dances in different skits, so its really fun and interesting.

Hope the above is comforting and exciting, that more will join you real soon.

    Thank You & Best Regards,

    Pearl Wong

  3. Hi Pearl,
Welcome to the club. Kindly note that I had deleted your mobile contact from the abv comments as we do not encourage them since this site is also viewed by non-SHC members. However, you can liaise with those interested via email first. Cheers.. Do

  4. Hi Pearl,

Thank you for the initiative. You are free to organise almost any activity for SilverHairsClub members, subject of course to the activity being within club rules. So, please go ahead.

Please note, at this moment, SHC does not have corporate membership, and therefore you cannot represent any organisation. You can organise any activity, in an individual capacity as an Event Organiser (EO) or as an Event Coordinator (EC). For EOs, events organised are strictly for members only. For ECs, the events organised may be open to friends and non-members. Pleae read up on some of the other activities to get an idea of how to proceed.

In short, as a SHC member, you are almost unrestricted in the ideas you may have in mind. Have fun.

  5. When I saw “Mr Lee”, I thot the loath-emeritus but very meritorious Mr Lee has joined SHC to find a new lease of life for himself. And of cos TH Lee must be as good as gold as Mr Lee is.

Pearl-W, we usually call each other by our first names, and sometimes fondly by our go-by names such as, from me, Ter for Terence when he is about to disguise as a vampire.

I think it can be quite fun to do a Wang Sa on stage so if there’s a meeting to explore how it shd proceed, kindly post it in here or reach me at tnotswit@hotmail.com.

  6. Hello Dolly and Terence,

Pardon me for not knowing SHC’s house rules as I was too excited about this drama group and blah blah blah away. Rest assured I’m not representing any organisation, am just happy to continue my passion and impart what I know with other like-minded people. Am also not familiar with all the organising terms, I think I’ll leave to the rest of the members to decide which is most comfortable – strictly for members or open to friends and non-members.

I take it that both you and Dolly are for the idea too…thanks very much!!

So, when can we all meet to discuss this?
All members are welcome to attend this ‘drama’ meeting especially those who are keen but would like to know what drama is all about before committing.

    Pearl Wong.

  7. Hi Tim,

I like your cheekiness, no wonder you love being Wang Sa. He and Ye Fong are hilarious characters – worth putting ‘them’ back on stage again!

    Pearl Wong.

  8. Checked into hotel but realised what I wore inside wasnt allowed for a swim other than in that pool in sentosa which she swam naked and drowned.

So Back to pick up my trunks. Read yr reply.

Ye Fong? ??? This actress can certainly act, usually romantically linked to handsomes in soap operas but to get her hilarious? Tickling her in the armpits might work but first, she has to bathe and shave.

?? is probably the father of local comedies. ?? complemented him very well in the roaring 60s. They are special; together they put up epics. We can only emulate.

Btw, what you can do, going forward, is to either start a new post or amend this post to state a place and time of this discussion, and invite interested SHCians to attend.

The venue can be the Bra, Hans (both are cafes where monthly gatherings have been held), at Hong Lim Park (if you anticipate that the talk will get very hot and heated such as to plan the play of the Boxers Rebellion or the Pit Bulls Reunion), or on the upper deck of a SBS double decker (which is aircond, hv U-shaped seats facilitating easy chats and the ride can take 2 hours), or even HDB void decks next to some MPs holding Meet-People-Sessions (they might join us if the plot is right).

Ok, got to rush off now……………..

  9. ? ? & ?? are a known comedian pair, not singer/actress ?? lah, of cos!
Since you mentioned that it can be quite fun to do a Wang Sa on stage, its up to you to emulate him and make us all laugh lor!

Those of you who are anxious to meet to discuss this can meet first.

I am not familiar with some of the places that you mentioned except Hans where there’s one in Marine Parade, Far East Plaza & one near Chinatown Sq, but I prefer Garden Slug/Lor L Telok Kurau where parking is easy & free.

The SBS upper deck sounds good but I’m afraid that after the 2hrs going round the island, me and some others might be groggy liao.

The other non-aircon places might be too uncomfortable.

Regarding the venues, arent there any meeting/funtion rooms in SHC for members to use?

Well, I’m totally new at SHC, maybe some members can help me understand how they run classes.

  11. Hello Lydia,

All of us are actors & drama-mamas in our daily lives just that we are not conscious at all as it comes so naturally but once we are asked to act, our consciousness makes us shy & paiseh therefore restricting our natural actions.

I believe you will enjoy the class and we’ll be seeing you real soon once a date is set for all to meet.

    pearl.

  12. Hey Lydia, you are right..thats Shakespeare indeed! Look forward to meeting all of u and have fun together. I wouldnt say I’m here to teach but share what I know about drama/theatre works and hope we all can show a good show when we are ready to perform for all to see. Thats the best & the most difficult part of theatre. You’ll soon understand what I mean if you can fully commit to all thats required to be an actor.

    pearl.

  13. Hello Henry,

Thanks for being part of our Drama Group!

For a start..you can have your mini ‘that one not enuff’ for your group –
you can be an ‘instant director’ in our “Golden Theatre’ Group ler, kekeke!!

Infact some of you can start directing your own little group especially those who love to lead. We will have small groups of 2, 3, 6 or more depending on how big the groups are – each group will create a story and act out the characters. I will preview the whole group’s story & acting skills and fine tune them wherever. You also need to think of the props that are needed for the scenes – eg: furnitures, crockeries, nick nacks, etc..
    meantime, we can make-believe la.

Well well, looks like we can meet already…
am sure most of you who had written in are anxious to start ya.

    pearl.

  14. Hi Thean Hor, Tim, Anna, Janet Lydia and Henry,

Thank you very much for your interest in our Drama/Acting Group!
For those who are contemplating, do join us for lunch too.

Shall we all meet on the 18 June Saturday 12pm for lunch at Garden Slug?

Its at Telok Kurau Lor L –
    Bus 15 & 33 ( alight at bus-stop between Lor L & M, outside Uni Building )
    MRT – Kembangan Station ( I will pick u up at 11.50am )

Those who drive can park at the car park lots near the big mango tree of Uni Building – its FREE!!

    See you all real soon!
    pearl.

  15. Hi Pearl

Welcome on board. Wow! a newbie with new activity “Drama” something different & sounds interesting too. I would like to join provided I’m available on the date & time set but I have to confess that cannot speak Mandarin but for Hokkien dialect border line pass hee..hee.

    Cheers
    Hamidah

  16. Hello Hamidah,

    Welcome, welcome!!

As mentioned earlier, our group is ‘MULTI-LINGUAL’!!
I had 2 Indian ladies from my former group.
When they utter some Indian phrases, the audience laugh!

In the last show that we did – ‘ENCORE 111 – The Wedding!
It was our ‘Finale Scene’ of 40+ members –
a wedding party onboard a cruise ship – Chinese groom & his Indian bride –
we sang in English ( On The Moonlight Bay )
in Chinese ( Ne Nong Wor Nong )
and dance an Indian dance to the music of JaiHo.

We were all dressed for the occassion –
All the Bridesmaids wore Indian costumes & accessaries –
I was one of them and had never dreamt of wearing Indian style nor explore Little India, but the show had me wearing Indian bangles on both hands.
I love their sweet clanging sounds even my 2yrs+ grandson was enchanted by them. He wore them and clanging away while on the way home after my show.

Do you think that is fun & coloful?
    YES!!

You can see all of it in my Facebook – my Theatre & Filming photos.
( search – pearl wong ..in orange with sunglasses & flowers on my hair )

So, come on over – all races are welcomed!!!

Err..is there a way to post a profile photo here like Facebook?
Would love to see my handsome & pretty ‘actors’ lah! hehe.

    pearl.

  17. Hi Pearl,

As a new member, it is good if you join an existing gathering where other SilverHairs meet. For example, the next SHC monthly gathering. This way, you get to know other people, and in return, they will get to know who you are.

Once you have done so, and other members are comfortable with you, they will join your activities, even join you at other venues. At this moment, we can only read from you. Just dont get a shock when you see the other members.

Read more about the monthly gatherngs.

    Terence Seah

  18. Dear Terence, can U elaborate on “Just dont get a shock when you see the other members.” if not Pearl may just call off this group, hahahahaha

  19. Hi Pearl,

    Welcom to SHC.

WOW.. this post is hot! Already 27 comments in just one day!

YES .. I would like to be included in this drama. Sounds exciting. I have done some skits in church and during school days.. and am really keen to try out an SHC drama event too!

    Is there a theme/skit outline?

And the place that you’ve proposed on Saturday, is it just for lunch only, or is there a place to practice?

Please let me have your email contact?

Cheers, Lydia Chin. (Now, you’ve 2 Lydia’s in your group)

  20. Hi Pearl

Thanks for your prompt reply. Yes, by just reading your description I can tell & imagine your “The Wedding” drama is very exciting. I like drama that has some “musical” part in it.

I just noticed that you have set the 1st mtg this Sat 18/June, sorry I hv to give it a miss first cos I’m going for SHC JB Durian trip organise by Dan Huang. Will try to join you the next round. Pls keep me posted, tks.

Ok will view your facebook. You can also see photos of SHC past events in SHC website but of course you won’t know who they are. You submit your profile to SHC w/o photos.

Hi Thean Hor, Anna, Janet,Lydia & Henry
I hope you all have lots of fun with this “Drama” activity.

    Rgds
    Hamidah

  21. Hi Pearl

Welcome to SHC. Glad to have something different brewing for us.

I would love to be part of your drama mama group.

I will make it for lunch this saturday, 18 June.

    Thanks very much

    Carly

  22. Hi Pearl, see you this Sat.

I believe there are many of you out there who have Andy Lau like talents hidden inside, let’s hope all of you will now step forward & finally & once & for all unleashed those talents for the world to see. At the very least it’s going to be great fun…I can imagine…hahaha

  23. Hi Terence,

    I felt otherwise –
I think this ‘drama’ group is a good start for me to know a few SHC members first since the responses are trickling in right after my posting and its polite of me to quickly get things done since I proposed this activity.

By then, attending other SHC gatherings will be more comfortable for me as I already have some kakis that I can depend on for a day/night’s fun. I’m not one that socialise well, not that I’m not sociable but its just awkward if I didnt have ‘some frens’ to last the day or night. Hope you understand.

Mmm..may I know if SHC have function halls for classes, rehearsals and performances or we have to seek our own venues?

    pearl.

  24. Hi Hamidah,

Thks for your prompt reply too!
Viewing my FB profile will ease all the doubts of who I am as its quite like my journal where you’ll get a glimpse of my life in there. I like to be precise & detailed and not one that beats around the bush. I simply enjoy sharing with like-minded friends provided they care to respond & chat with me, otherwise I’m not interested to keep those who simply wants to monitor what I do but said ‘who cares’ or simply wants me to be just a number in their growing list. I’m one that speaks my mind in order to get things right. Those who feel the same will understand what I mean..cos I care!

    pearl.

  25. Pearl-W, at abt the same time this saturday the 18th when you meet with folks at Telok Kurau, I will be up on Gunong Tahan eating durians and ikan kurau after enduring a sure ta’boleh tahan traffic jam at the causeway.

SHC collects no membership fee so it owns no property. It sustains on efforts of individual EOs who will source for premises/halls if an activity requires one.

If you were to again put up “The Wedding”, I will only appear at the end, after the banquet. Obviously I shall hold the key to the bedroom. Dong fang is fun. My favourite.

  26. Hello Lydia Chin ( need mention surname since there are 2 Lydias, haha )

Wow! Yes, the response is pretty good!
    Am happy, happy, happy, happy!!

I hope the shy ones will join us after our first performance –

I have a fine example when I lead a small group at the Lions Befriender’s
    Club some time ago –
*This gentleman is always there helping at the club and he was the one who helped with my attendance list and be my music operator when I needed a song or two. From his look, I knew he wanted so much to be part of us but shyness kept him against his will. FINALLY..he couldnt help seeing us all having so much fun, joined in after a week’s class. He enjoyed so much and you can see everyone’s smiling home!

Yes, there is a theme and I always love musicals as thats what perks up the audience. There will be small groups of skits and the actors themselves will have to create their own stories & scripts to tie in the whole show.

Garden Slug is my favourite meeting place – just for discussions or hang-out as we need not worry how long we park our cars cos its FREE.

If SHC do not have a place, can we practice/rehearse at one of the member’s condo’s function room or my Chinese Swimming Club’s KTV room since
there are songs for us to practice. Its $15 an hr, max 3hrs is good enough
for us all to share the cost or someone’s home has space to share!?

If there isnt any place at all, I can try the function room at Eunos Mansion –
I’m within the RC zone and can rent the hall for $10 an hr w/table & chairs.

    My email: aunty.pearly@gmail.com

  27. Hi Henry, nice to know you can join us for lunch & not durians, haha.

For those who cant join us this time, there’s another meeting later, surely!

Henry, thks for encouraging Singapore Andy Lau’s to join us..its worth it, haha.
Do look at my reply to Lydia Chin..its about a super shy guy who eventually cant tahan our fun-filled drama, joined in as he wants so much to be a part of it all.

    See u there!
    pearl.

  28. Hey Tim,

Going on the durian trip is a ‘test-your-patience’ trip too.
So tak boleh tahan also mesti tahan lah!

If you only appear after the banquet, do you think your Bride wants to Dong Fang with you?
Her favourite – snatch the key and throw you out – Bye Bye!!!

  29. Hi Pearl

have acted before (mainly at school and ccf) and interested to join your “theatre club” but this sat am going for durian trip too. so pls inform me for next meeting. thanks!

  30. Pearl-W, me no stoopid hor. Think I not bright enuf to know that whoever acts as bride isnt my real bride but the act of dong fang is, no matter whose bride she is.

Of cos, I can also play the dong dong chiang man in yr next drama – the Vampire’s Last Funeral.

  31. Hello Frisna,

Thanks for your interest and nice to know you had acted before, so you must have known some stage rules ya. We will include you in our next meeting, so enjoy your durian, the trip & great companies. Haha, love you to pack home some for me if I’m not so prone to sore-throat right after eating it!

    Have fun!
    pearl.

  32. Hi to all my ‘Drama’ friends,

May I say you will be at Garden Slug on Saturday 18 June 12pm for our first ‘Drama’ lunch meeting since all of you did not say you are going for durians.

    1. Thean Hor
    2. Anna Seet
    3. Janet Chan
    4. Lydia Soh
    5. Henry Yip
    6. Lydia Chin
    7. Caroline Gee

Thanks and looking forward to meeting all of you!

    pearl.

  33. Hi Pearl

I,ve no acting experience before but some small role plays on my classes with WSQ(Health Care Attendant,F & B n Retail). Since you mentioned multilingual,it’s indeed very interesting so please include me in your next meeting.

  35. Dear Pearl

I am Sarah, and wud like to view the Drama Khaki on Sat, 18 June. But I don’t speak Mandarin, just understand the Singlish-chinese a little. If time permit, will meet U at Kembangan MRT – 11.50am.

  36. Hello Pearl,

You have such a fantastic idea, obviously it’s got everyone’s creative juices flowing. I would like to join your drama group and would love to meet you, but unfortunately can’t make it for lunch this Saturday. Hope to join you at the next meeting.

    Cheers,
    Lee Sean

  37. Hello Sarah,

Nice to have you and I will be at Kembangan MRT this Saturday 18 June 11.50am. Whoever needs to ‘tompang’ can see me – ‘Lady in Red’ – haha, cant
miss! I will be at the waiting area by the main road.

    See Ya!
    pearl.

  38. Hello Lee San,

Nice to have you too and thanks for appreciating the vibrancy of my drama activity! Hope all of you have the same energy to make the audience sit up smiling, laughing, cheering & applauding!

We will see you in our next meeting…
    meanwhile, enjoy your weekend!

    pearl.

  39. Hi Pearl W,

    “?????????”

I am glad that you have posted this interesting Drama Group event to fulfil my dream when I was a teenager, hope that I am not too late for the enrollment, looking forward to meet in your next meeting as I will be away join the durian feast trip by Dan/Joy.

    Thank you for your arrangements.

    Judy Lim

  40. Hi Pearl of great price,

I also want to be a part of the drama team. Will I be able to improve my mandarin after a while. I believe it is in each of us seeking for an opportunity to act and play the part of different characters we encounter along life journey.

I am more for the fun and comradeship in participation, ability to laugh at ourselves and having a whale of a time!

By the way, do we have cameraman to do a recording so that we may playback and improve on our fumbling and mistakes?

Sorry, not able to join you folks this Saturday as I am leading a group up North for durians, the king of fruits!

    Dan

  41. Hello Dan, great organiser of SHC!?

I love your attitude in joining our Drama Group!

Yes, thats what many came to my former TFS Group when they first started –
along the way, there are those who are not teachable & correctable when they make mistakes, responded rudely as I’ve encountered with a “NEVERMIND LAH”!! and not speak to you forever.

There are those still waters who will join you in any gathering but kept at that ‘social level’ and no further friendships formed or needed even when they enjoyed your company or gathering very much. I hurts me so!

These are the people we encountered in any big groups BUT…
I do hope my Drama Group will be people that we can have a good time -PLUS…GREAT FRIENDSHIPS FORMED!!

Your mentality is the same as me and to be open, frank and somethimes to the point is very hard to accept BUT thats truly from the heart without ill feelings & hostility…I just love to make known a mistake as I’m pretty observant to details, thats how we can improve ourselves and only a 3rd party sees it..as the Chinese says ” pang kuan che ching”.

Yes, we do need to record and play back to see our performances – I always do that to my other classes – PITY my camcorder died on me, haha!

If we have any member who has a camcorder to lend – that’ll be great!
Altho my iphone4 does super recordings, it has limited spaces and I cant transfer everything to my computor as a small portion is acceptable only.

    I love photography & videography –
not professional level but I have an eye for it.

My next activity for SHC members will be –
OUT DOOR FUN PHOTO & VIDEO SHOOTING!!

Well Dan, enjoy your SHC friends & durians!
We’ll see you at our next meeting.

    Have fun!!
    pearl.

ps: my youngest son is also Dan, keke.

  42. Hello Judy,

Yes, Life is a stage – everyone played many roles isnt it?

During our generation there were really nothing for us to dream –
nor were there opportunities or stepping stones to anywhere., life was simple!

Now is not too late to fulfill your dream.
As Henry put it – “step forward & finally & once & for all unleashed those talents for the world to see. At the very least it’s going to be great fun”

We shall see you in the next meeting then –
meanwhile, have fun…enjoy your durians and great companies too!

    pearl.

  43. Hi My Drama Friends,

We shall welcome 4 more new Drama Friends – YAY!!
    1. Sarah Zahriah
    2. Lee San
    3. Judy Lim
    4. Dan Huang

    That makes 17 including me!
Lets welcome Terence too to make it 18 – Hurray!!!

If Terence say YES, we will have enough for a start.

We will start planning & rehearsing for our FIRST Drama Show –
A Chinese Musical in time for Terence’s ‘Speak Mandarin’ event!

I would like to know a little of you all,
including a photo, so I know who you are.

    Thank You!
    pearl.

  44. Hey Thomas,

Yes, you are still in time for the 18th number since Terence couldnt join us.
See you at Garden Slug this Saturday ya.

    Cheers too!
    pearl.

  45. Hi Tim,

You are right and there’s always 2 sides of the coin.

For me, I have to be ciritical if I want perfection to a good show.
Of cos, there will be others who will criticise my work as they also have their high standard of expectations. Its just ‘subjective’.

As a director, our job is to direct an imperfect act to perfection as much as we can. If there is biasness, I think I have to let go of the unteachables as they are not changeable, so I have to let them be BUT what they dont realise is that they hinder and spoil the group’s good show. He also dont learn and dont improve..that in itself is very sad – might as well not be there at all.

If you think I’m ever like what you mentioned above, please let me know –
you will noticed how I lead but I cant see myself.

Mmm, would appreciate you translate the above Chinese to English cos I cant understand all thats said.

    Thanks lots!
    pearl.

  46. Pearl-W, suddenly I remember Mrs Joanna Wong. Outside of her Uni Registrar job then, she was an accomplished local Cantonese opera actress with quite a big following.

    You are “Wong” hmmm………?

The MUSS offers an 8-session (of 2 hours each) drama acting course at $265. You have not asked for a fee. (I suppose any need to rent premises and equipment will be charged on a shared basis). Very nice of you.

I sign up bcos I want to see and experience what acting is. Honestly, at this point in time, I dont have that passion and interest to do it more than to enjoy (without disrupting or causing distraction to others). If I find myself not cut for it, or my enthusiam wanes, I will say so to you and move myself to the byline.

“Bias” (this word is also a noun) is sometimes shown to the naturals who can be more easily groomed. When one sees an uncut diamond, one will waant to spend more time to polish it. Very few will trade the uncut diamond for a burger.

My translation of what I wrote in Chinese:

“The observer can clearly see it all”? Not really.

If the observer cant tell an A from a B, harbours ill-will?careless of whether a thing is black or white?then even he who has the potential will be neglected. He is left to sulk in loneliness?playing the small role of a clown.

“Only discerning eyes will spot a gem”? So, it takes not only keen obervation but also a pair of sharp eyes.

Can feel that you have a pair of sharp eyes, and also eyes that know when to stare hard. “

  47. Hi Tim, I like your chattiness!

I didnt charge a fee cos I just wanted a group of like minded people to share my passion for acting., and I thought SHC has the venue for rehearsals. Therefore, there shouldnt be much of a monetary problem except we need rent a nice thearette for our public performance if our group is a success.
The ticket sales would be able to cover the rent.

I must say some wont know where to go for courses and even if they did, like you found out, 8 sessions for $265. Can one master acting in 8 sessions?

To remember yours and your partners’ lines is challenging.
To counter anxiety, be aware of your actions & scripts are quite nerve wrecking cos once you are on stage, there’s no way you can say – oops, whats my next line? If you forget, your partner gets stuck cos she cant say her lines in tune to yours. If you improvise your own lines, and if your partner isnt in sync with your new improvisation – the stage stood still !!

    Thanks for your translation!
When a group is too big, it happens.
Thats why I prefer small groups where everyone gets to shine!

    See you all Saturday!
    pearl.

  48. Dear JacHan, although I said the corruption up north stinks, I must hastily add that Malaysians are generally warm & nice people, and the country a nice place to visit & to have fun, provided we observe safty measures at all times.
I also want to applaud you & I quote you “We all know that being an EO is not an easy task. As on some trips that other E0s have organized – I have heard grumblings whenever someone feels neglected or overlooked. Some members also tend to be overly critical. If you are one of these people – please don’t come.
However – if you are easy-going, able to accept unexpected inconveniences, pitch in to help instead of complain – please do come. I will enjoy your company. It will be an interesting day.”

I just want to tell you “I SIMPLY LOVE YOUR STYLE!! I think you are worth emulating hehe…

  49. Hey Henry,

    Is there a mistake?
I’m Pearl Wong and not JacHan!

If there’s no mistake and there’s a message to tell –
I think I’m quite like JacHan too.

See you tomorrow for our first Drama Group’s lunch.

    pearl.

  50. Hi Lydia Soh,

Nice to hear from you again!
Thanks for re-confirming your attendance to our first Drama Group lunch.

    See you tomorrow 12pm!

  51. Hi Pearl,

I am Jacqueline Han (JacHan). I am EO for a field trip to JB.

Henry Yip must have “misplaced” his comment.

I chanced upon your thread, and read his comment meant for me.

    Welcome to the club!

  52. Pearl-W, I am not chatty. Far from it.

I am glum, once in a while grumpy. In a crowd, I ait quietly in a corner twiddling my thumb as I watch the world go by. Never dumb tho.

Will catch up with you when we meet. Have a great Meeting tomorrow and get the boys to lug everythg home from Garden Slug.

  53. Haha Tim, whatever you call yourself –
at least you bother to reply, respond, comment and give your opinion & advice in detail & at length, and in good humour – I love this kind of communication!

If you were really twiddling your thump and watch the world go by, you would have also twiddle your thump and watch this interaction go by, ya.
See, whose name appeared here the most, ah hah!!!

Yes, see you real soon as I will be starting our discussion on this Mandarin Musical real quickly once enough members are serious about being in the show. I will also get the boys to lug all the Sluggs they can find for you, kekeke!

    pearl.

  55. Hi Pearl

First I would like to say “Welcome to SHC” and I have to say your drama proposal is like injecting a ‘breath of fresh air’ into the SHC activities.

I would love to join your group and see if there is a place for me in show biz……annnnd if I fail I can always volunter to stand behind and man the camera…..just kidding about the stardom bit but am serious about manning the camera hahahahaha.

Think it will be fun for a change to do some drama/acting instead of dancing, singing and eating :0)and perhaps I can pick up some tips from you on photography and videography too.

Unfortunately I have a full day workshop this week and would not be able to attend the lunch meeting.

Hope you folks have a great time

    Sockie

  56. Hello Sock Cheng,

I’m very happy that so many of you are so delighted with my Drama activity.
If you put your heart & mind to it, it is really very fun, meaningful & healthy as you’ll be laughing a lot – at others and yourself. We often hear ‘laughter is the best medicine’ – its better than the ‘laughing club’ cos in there, you laugh pretentiously for the sake of laughing. In drama, you really laugh – its either pleasurable, silly or funny, kekeke.

I prefer musicals as I get to act, sing & dance. Therefore, those who can sing & dance will enjoy our drama group and I hope we can be the most popular musical drama in time to come cos not many are into musicals.
And hopefully, others will invite us to perform when our name rings well.

Yes, we do need a photographer & a videographer ( someone who can edit and burn copies for everyone )

As for my photography – I’m not into the professional way of shooting. Its mostly nice candid shots, certain poses that caught my eyes, certain areas that I think can bring out a nice shot – its mostly for the effects of the moment, no special camera…just my iphone4. Can share with you what I mean with some iphone shots I took with my nephew ( a professional photographer ) at Sungei Buloh not too long ago.
I’m also thinking of a photo shoot outing with some SHC enthusiasts –
maybe you can help organise that ya Sockie.

Its ok if you cant join us tomorrow, there’s always another time.
I will be having our next meet next week, hope to see all of you.

Have fun with your workshop whatever it may be.
    See you soon!

    pearl.

  57. Pearl-W, pls make your maiden drama for SHC a gongfu one.

Since kiddy days, I hv always loved to fly and wished that my fingers can destroy anythg I point at. Best, if this hero me is a man of few words – I wont need to remeber my lines and wont cause anxiety to others.

The snails hv grown fat and juicy at Gdn Slug. Do catch them all and eat to your hearts’ content = eating them raw is heavenly.

    ?????
    ?????
    ?????
    ?????
    ??????

    ???????????

  58. Mmm Tim, yes I can fulfil your childhood dream provided you pay for all the special effects – you know what you need to make you fly right. As for finger pointing..you need some kind of lazer effect – maybe you can have Universal Studio to help.

You and some SHC Kungfu experts can put up that ‘Shaolin Show’ –
no lines..just shout! I’m sure its gonna be very spectacular to watch all the kungfu stunts. We’ll all be in full attendance for the preview and the applauds – deafenning!!

Haha, Garden Slug only have slugs in drawings, not meant for eating, kekeke!

  59. Hi Drama Frens,

We had a very good meeting today ya?!

The next meeting for our Drama Group –

  62. Hi Pearl

Sorry did not attend the 18 June meeting, had not check this post and also went for Durian trip, I can’t make it for the 2nd July meeting as am working…is there any other alternative?

  63. Hi Pearl,
As much as I wanted to pop over to look2 see2 but time was out for me yesterday. Heard from some of them, it was a great meeting. Cheers… Dolly

  64. Hi Anna,

Hope you had a great time with the durians & companies.
Do share with us some of the exciting happenings & photos of Malaysia.

Well, regarding our regular drama meetings,
I have to hear from everyone, especially those who works –
whats the best day that most can make it.

Right now, I’m making Saturdays our initial meeting days as most of you dont work Saturdays. Lydia Chin’s function room is available for booking from 10am to 4pm OR 4pm to 10pm. Most of us prefer 12pm to 4pm leaving the nights free for other committments.

Do join us on the 25 June ya.

    pearl.

  65. Hey Henry,

Glad you enjoyed our meeting and will be acting in our first ‘romance’ show this 2 July…you’ll definitely be an outstanding ‘Romeo’, hehe.

    Thanks for the flattery, *BLUSH*!!

    pearl.

  66. Hi Dolly,

Am happy you had good feedbacks, heng ah, haha!

I’m happy too that all came with an open mind and are game to chip in wherever they can for all to meet to have fun together.

Come 2 July, we’ll have our first ‘try’ – a romance play.
Hope the rest can quickly come over to share the fun after our 25 June’s
    meeting.

    Be there!!

    pearl.

  67. Hi Pearl,

  69. Pearl-W. what’s to happen on this 25th Saturday?

All I know is, osama is dead, drama is alive and obama dealing with the lama in the east and the hamas in middle east, is not having it all fun as the global alma.

  70. Those who missed last Saturday’s Drama Group Meeting are:

    1. Sock Cheng
    2. Anna Seet
    3. Hamidah
    4. Caroline Gee
    5. Frisna Tan
    6. Grace Kang
    7. Lee San
    8. Judy Lim
    9. Tim Liu
    10. Dan Huang

    Be There!
    pearl.

  71. Hi Terence,

They are excited becos they know they can put up a nice show for your Sept ‘Mandarin Event’.

Talking about pictures, we talked so much that I forgot to take some shots of our very first Drama Group meeting last Saturday even tho I’ve wanted to, hai!

Well, this Saturday, we will not miss that.
We have professional photographers Sockie & Dan.

    pearl.

  72. Hi Tim,

I dont know what these great guys are up to –
what I know is..25 June, we’ll be getting together to know each and discussing our first Drama Group and the shows after that.
Life goes on.. to each its own, however the world’s gonna be.

2 July is where all of you will start showing your talents by acting out some skits that I have for all of you. You can plan your own skits too.
Be prepared for a good laugh!

Mmm, I’m not here to teach ‘acting’, hence.. no fees charged.
I’m only facilitating the whole show as I believe most of you are very good at it. The whole idea is ‘having fun with drama’.

PS: Those with high expectations of acting can go with Tim’s post –
    Basic Drama Course – $300 non-member/$265 member 8 sessions.

Those just wanna have fun – come on over….

    Be There!!
    pearl.

  73. I thought I will brood all my way checking into another hotel with my chic, the last of my 2 promised short breaks for her.

Got your reply and it puts s smile on my face now.

So, cometh this 25th, we will again be at the Snail House for another chic-chat – same time I reckon. Then cometh 2 July, cometh the biggest stunning show on Earth.

Ok, so much is clear to me now.

But hor, you very the aslamak nasi lemak leh, when you touted tim as a hungry buaya good to do a DBSS with his $300 asking price.

Yes, for $300, I will give each aspirant either a cloth or a broom. They will have to start from playing small simple roles like maids cleaning cars or road sweepers. No lines to remember. Privately, I will advertise for their services, and gain another $300 from people who need part-time help.

Haha, leaving for the hotel now to continue my dreaming………….

  74. Hi Pearl

I’m coming for the mtg and will need a lift from you, so will be at Kembangan MRT Stn Taxi Stand at 11.50am dis Sat.

Xie Xie Ni and looking fwd to meet up with you.

Looking forward to meet you too.

    Be There!!
    pearl.

  76. Wei Tim!

I said “can go with Tim’s post” meaning to refer to your post where you wrote about this Drama Course at such a price if anyone interesed. Not indicating that you are running it. You called yourself ‘a hungry buaya’?!

Well.. ok, so you are the hungry buaya…
come 25 June & 2 July, there are plenty of food to feed you…
    come very hungry…

    Be There!!
    pearl.

  77. Hi Pearl,

I’ve sent an email to you & those who turned up on 18th … just wondering how is the search for a storyline coming along? I’m excited to get it started. I was thinking of doing a musical skit (with background Chinese songs) for Terence’s mid autumn festival event.

What do you & other Drama Team members have for ideas? I’m sure Hamida have lots of ideas, just bursting to share with us … !

    CHeers, LydiaChin.

  78. Hi Pearl #102

  79. Hi Lydia Chin,

I’ve just sent all of you an email regarding the scripts for 2 July.
It is going to be a very interesting, exciting & action packed day.

Didnt hear from Lydia Soh yet. Thean Hor had some for us in our mails.

During last Saturday’s meeting, many of you thought that the musical show was too soon and most agreed that December would be just right.

I will see how many are seriously keen to start the musical for Sept ( I was all for it ) then I will have these members work with me to finalise the show.
Sept is arriving very soon, we need frequent rehearsals. Can commit?

Hamidah and those positive for this show do think of the songs & dance movements to discuss wth me on 2 July. I’m thinking of a medley of songs –
meaning contiuation of songs & dances. We can think of the flow later.

    Be There!!
    pearl.

  80. Hi Hamidah.. if someone had done a great show like Grease, its worth sharing esp when we are starting a Drama Group. Its just a feed back that SHC had done such a musical before. They are obviously very proud of your ability & creativity. Now that we are doing the Sept show, the first person they think of is you cos you are really good at it.

    pearl.

  81. Hi Pearl,
I would like to join the meeting on 25 June, however only available at 1.30pm due to some commitments on this day.

So Ladies, DRESS IN SOMETHING COOL….WEAR YOUR SUNDRESSES!!

If its NOT OK…then we have to change venue.
    PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP!

    pearl.

  88. Hi Pearl

I cincai anywhere can but suggest you stick to Gdn Slug to avoid confusion or miscommunication just in case those going 2moro did not read your latest post bcos member like Judy Lim is working and coming at 1.30pm. Those taking ride from you will still wait at K MRT Stn Waiting Bay 11.50am. 2moro I weak bareback ok? haa..haa

    1. A Beautiful Morning
    2. Matchmaking
    3. Casino

Thanks to Lydia Soh’s title – ‘Matchmaker’.
But she no longer can commit to our group,
so Bee Gek took over & finalised the script.
    Thks Bee Gek!

Thanks to Judy’s story – ‘Casino’.
As Judy cant join us this Sat, Lydia Chin continued to finalised the script.
    Thks Lydia!

Well, we’ll certainly have lots of fun tomorrow.

    Enjoy!!
    pearl.

  96. Hi Pearl & Drama team,

  100. SHC DRAMA TEAM ….

We all had a WHALE OF A GOOD TIME…. I learnt to act, I learnt how to script write.. WOW.. this opportunity opens a new platform for me.. I discovered a new interest/hobby!

For all those drama enthusiasts who could not come today… i must say you missed out a really FUN time…

DO come for the next practice, scheduled for 16th July. We’ve something more exciting in store! A play for the Chinatown event!

    Pearl has the photos/videos.

    Cheers,
    Lydia Chin.

  101. Hi Lydia

Thanks for booking the function room to accomodate all of us. I have a good time makan makan, meeting new members Bee Gek & Eunice and trying to be Media Corp actress haa..haa. This is something new for me too.

Most importantly thanks to Pearl cos without her the Drama Grp gathering would not be made possible.

Cu all in 2 week’s time.

    Cheers
    Hamidah

  102. Hello to All Drama Frens,

    Whooh!
The SHC Drama Grp participants had a great time being newspaper-man, Qi Gong Master, Joggers, Grandma pushing pram, vege/beef/chicken sellers,
wet marketing customers, kopitiam customers & kopi-soh!
    It was such a quiet…then…busy busy morning……phew!!

As usual, am busy replying mails and planning for our first play for Terence’s 10 Sept ‘100% Mandarin’ event.

Lydia wanted a romance play ‘Romeo & Juliet’ but it was too Western.
Then we compromise on my Mooncake Festval Celebration where an old couple got all his daughters, grand-daughters and a Malay Neighbour to come over for the special gathering. They never had such happy times eversince their daughters were too busy with their own loves.
3 migrated and now they are back for good!

Lydia got her own scripts done very quickly – her dialogue with her parents.
The rest were encouraged to create their own dialogues n simple dance movements after I’ve forwarded them a piece of music. Thought music is always soothing & touching.

Thks Lydia for booking the function room and seeing to our food & drinks where we all pot-lucked for our first practise.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE FOOD & DRINKS & THE GREAT ACTING SKILLS –
see, its not that diffiicult afterall right!!

  103. Participants for Mooncake Festival Celebration are:

    1. Dan
    2. Grace
    3. Lydia
    4. Thomas
    5. Anna
    6. Frisna
    7. Eunice
    8. Janet
    9. Judy
    10. Bee Gek
    11. Sarah.

Hamidah cant join us as she’ll be busy for her son’s wedding preparations in August and the wedding day 1st week Sept.

  104. Hi Peggy,

Appreciate your keen interest & fellowship but its not the kind of fellowship you would expect with other groups cos our time of fellowship is mainly discussing our rehearsals. Its crucial cos its about a play we’re putting up very soon 10 Sept. In total, we only have 4 rehearsals, 3 more to go on a tight rope!

We really need total focus with each other and the set as this play is quite complicated with 12 newbies – we’ve got dialogues, singing & dancing. I in turn hv to keep re-arranging to a good flow for the whole play., therefore..
we wont have time for you and you will not enjoy all their repeats and my shouting cos they are very noisy..its necessary but you’ll be bored alone.
We enjoy all the chaos cos we are within the fun & play, haha.

Altho you’re not into acting, hope you will be inspired after watching our first performance – its challenging but satisfying and needs 100% commitments!

    Best Regards,
    pearl.

  105. Gee, have not been here since July?!!

Well, some updates for ‘Homecoming’ play this Saturday 10 Sept 8pm.
    Final Casts are:
    1. Dan Huang – Mr Huang
    2. Frisna – Mrs Huang
    3. Eunice – Eldest Daughter Li Ee
    4. Frisna – 2nd Daughter Li Na (now playing Mrs Huang intead)
    5. Lydia Chin – 3rd Daughter Li Chuin
    6. Janet Chan – Youngest Daughter Li Chen
    7. Bee Gek – Eldest Grand-Daughter Shan Shan
    8. Judy Lim – 2nd Grand-Daughter Ting Ting
    9. Thomas Loh – Li Chuin’s Shanghai Boyfriend Lai Fah
10.Sarah Kassim- Mrs Huang’s ‘Good Neighbour’ Bibik
11.Boon Liang – Bibik’s Nephew (not appearing/incharge of sound system)

Everyone here puts in a lot of efforts to know their lines, the songs and wearing the Chinese costumes as required. They also enjoyed the whole process from thinking out the story, the dialogues, how to interact with each other and eventually a simple, playful family reunion on a Mid-Autumn Festival ‘Homecoming’ is created. Altho its their very first try on acting, all of them are naturals!! Some are looking forward to resume ‘Kopitiam Musical’ & ‘Matchmaking’, our initial plays which we shelved for ‘Homecoming’.

  106. Hi Members of the Drama Group

Before hitting the sack, I like very much to wish each one of you, a SUCCESSFUL first public performance. Just do your best as we know the great effort, time & sweat you put in to practise. Not forgetting to acknowledge the gracious leadership of Pearl Wong.

    All My Best,
    LS

  107. Hi Lydia, Pearl, and all family members of Homecoming,

I am very happy to know that all of you have got together to make this drama possible. I can only imagine what all of you are going through with the rehearsals; and will definitely make the show a great entertainment for “One night in Chinatown”.

Well done, for the spirit and your determination in making this event possible. If there is any hiccup that night, enjoy it.

I have to apologise that I am not able to come to this event, as I will only be back from Chennai on Sunday morning. Thank you all again.

    Terence Seah

  108. Hey..Hallo Lydia Soh,

Thanks for the well wishes and a great supporter to our drama group!
We’ll all do our best – anxiety and the sound system does play a big part in any show, hope all are able to hear the ‘actors’ with efforts to put in more mikes on stage. I may lead but my players are greater – applauds to the Casts, HURRAY!!

    Cheers!
    pearl.

  109. Hi Terence #153,

You are the greatest leader in SHC and we are the tiny portion in contributions.
If members are happy with the drama group, there’ll be more plays to watch as our group is ready for the next. We’ll see from the comments given since everyone knows this IS our very first play.

If any hiccups, it’ll be the sound system that we need getting used to. We only had a brief 1hr trial at Kovan on 1 Sept with several singers & the drama group. Practising with the karaoke system is totally different and not able to see lyrics is like walking blindfolded – we may fall into longkangs, hahaha.

Mmm, I keep having this feeling that you’ll be in our midst on 10Sept!!

    All The Best!!
    pearl.

  110. Whooh – finally .. we can now rest & relax!

Am so happy that all the Casts of ‘Homecoming’ did so well and the microphones were indeed a great help. Thanks lots to Boon Liang & Ronnie!! The audience were great tho the skit was simple, the good comments and compliments that went round really got the Casts very happy, pleased & proud that they were very well received. Thank You All who enjoys it!!

Coming next will be another musical play – Sshhhh…..

Songs are still ringing in our ears –
a strong proposal from some singers for a ‘Canton Night’ karaoke style is on the way. Cantonese oldies, moddies, operaties – another night of fright & fun…might as well, haha., somewhere late November – watch out!

    pearl.

  111. Dear all…..

On behalf of the entire team..

A big thank you for your encouragement.

I would like add some comments here.. on my experiences with the SHC Drama Team.. IT IS REALLY FUN…. we had alot of fun with the rehearsals… and esp our DEBUT PERFORMANCE.. it was great. I enjoyed it.. and so did the rest of the cast. Those who are keen to join the drama team.. pls do so now.. do not hesitate.. our next drama performance is coming up soon.. and we would like to hear from you. Drop an email to Pearl Wong or register on this thread. Alternatively, just give a call to any member of the debut cast. It is not as tough as you thought.. give it a try.. we’re a fun group. Join us.

  112. I grew up with gigantor. Monochrome but still a dazzling hero ridding gothem city of evil. He was as good as loved as ???, as ultram. Cant wait to be one. Never had to speak a word. Dont need to learn any dance. Will never put a foot wrong. I want tat role. Ada?

  113. Life to me was just a prodding along until I join the drama team. An unlikely fella that I am, who would have thought I would put myself on a stage. Not one who speak Mandarin well, I took the challege to take part in the drama. There were lot of stress but also lot of fun as we take on different roles.

So, to all of use out there, we welcome you to play a part in this exciting times for we know the world is our stage and we are here to play a part. Thanks to Pearl who dare to take up the challenge to form a drama team, let’s us give her all our support and encouragement!

    Dan

  114. Hey Tim #158,

My ‘actors’ had been encouraged to create their own character roles & dialogues, and this monochrome dazzling hero that you thought of is very interesting, macho & unique indeed. You can create your own skit however you like – be it standing, sitting, leaning or simply lying motionless, haha .. is up to you – no need to speak, dance or any foot work involved. No need rehearsals too .. how’s that for this Nov’s performance?!

  115. Pearl-W, you had only 2 actors in “?????”?

As the no-nonsense patriach, Dan-H didnt need to talk alot.

Thomas-L had his hands full and was turning blue with the bundle of joy his gal friend brought him in the form of a blue eye boy. In that state of mind, he had my sympathy if he was incoherent.

    The rest were actresses.

Typical of women, they were voluble, firing from all cylinders but didnt miss a line. That helped me not to miss my heartbeat.

Me as gigantor in your Nov drama performance? No deal lah; Gigantor was a cartoon. maybe can consider batman. In hire hugging tights, that fella shows his bulge. Candy for the eyes. Gaga can go wild.

    Yes, no need rehearsal.

Will now look for a cat to turn her into a woman. Wanna help cage some cats for me? We do have a few cats here but a bit overfed. Fat.

  116. Hi Tim,

I love you only to be our audience really..need more of your kind just sitting there smiling & grinning even as we act silly, miss a line, wrong key or not in sync. That helps flush away the stage fright we might hv, not so much of the hiccups that happened but the understandable……and ‘to err is human’ lor.

Anyway, I do love to duet with you some Canto oldies thats our next event end Nov “Canton High-Tea”. My favourites being ??????, ??? & ???? with the help of the monitor of cos. Love to hear a yes from you if you wish to support this event. I can count on you right..hee.

  117. Pearl-W, let me quote what you have written, not an extra word added:

“I love you only….need more of your….smiling & grinning even as we act silly…….or not in sync…..and to err is human”.

So freely raunchy from one so sexy and attractive. You have put the amorous me on cloud 9. I like what you said at the end. We can and will err bcos we’re all human. But however mad, no one needs to wear the green beret.

But me busy hor so not dating you today or tomorrow hor. Be good, ok?

Jokes aside, I find Hokien songs very amusing.

    “????????“?????? ”??????“???????, ?????????”????“? ????????????

Even when the lyrics are short the songs are long bcos they keep repeating themselves ad nauseum. They are usually favourites of singers at k’oks bcos they get to sing twice the time a Mandarin song takes.

Ok, Pearl, on with you. Let us do the slow and steady Cantonese “???” to beat them all. The song lasts the time to finish a buffet.

Cant wait for your Nov event liao.

  118. Wei Tim, you are breaking up my words like that ‘learn driving’ advertisement.
You made it raunchy & naughty – you’re the one that needs to be good, ok!
    Well, no jokes no fun!!

Yay, so you’re singing “???” with me – I’ll accept it, tho a very slow song, am happy you are with us for the fun of it.

Those who love to sing Cantonese songs for this event do let me know you’re keen to participate – no stage .. very casual karaoke style, can sing sitting down too. No rehearsals, just practise at home but need let me hear you once when we gather for our first meeting on 24 Sat evening. You can write to me – aunty.pearly@gmail.com – all are welcome!

    Be There!!
    pearl.

  119. With me, Pearl, you will have a choice. Breaking up yr words or breaking yr heart? Pls let me know which one pains yr heart less.

Seriously, ??? is too long for me to remember the lyrics if there isnt a screen to look at. An old fartie like me is selective in committing anythg to memory these days.

Right now, you drama folks deserve a ??? for a job well done?

  120. Tim, I know you are being cheeky – no choice needed lah.

As for the songs, I already said singing with the monitor, no need waste time remembering lyrics, just come and have fun! Thought of trying some operas, looks like you are the only guy, haha. Can I see more guys for this interesting Canto event?

    pearl.

  121. Am very happy to welcome Catherine Koh & Shirleen Kao for their interests in participating my coming play ‘KopiTiam Musical’ – Welcome Ladies!!

    pearl.

  122. Hi Pearl #168,

I sense you like a Cantonese program. Please go ahead, and I shall keep myself abreast with your plans. Start a new post and keep at it. Keep the participants to a manageable number; aim always to have it ON, whether the numbers are small or big. Select a date, an estimated cost and find out who the interested members are?

    Terence Seah

  123. Hi Terence,

Thanks for being so supportive & positive of my Canton program.

All planning are well on the way and I’m about to announce it soon now that I’ve got the venue and the participants for my ‘KopiTiam Musical & Canton Karaoke’ Fun-Get-Together afternoon on 27 Nov.

My initial concern was the extra costs that we have to bear having calculated the different prices for food & venue especially with the uncertain number of members attending. Now I understand why not many are keen to be EOs but I am willing to try especially with the full support of my drama & singing team.. so are the supports of members who enjoys our drama & songs – thank you for all your supports .. Xie Xie!!!

    Be There!!
    pearl.

  124. On 24 Sep, I met up with Pearl Wong to view the video of our singing and drama performance of that night. I am so impressed with the drama theme and performance, it was excellent! So, on the spot I told Pearl that I confirm joining for the Kopitiam musical play. Look forward to everybody’s support for the coming event.

  125. #169 .. when I mentioned ‘drama & singing team’ –
I’d like to make clear that the singers are all individual SHC singers who come together to participate this Canton Karaoke Event. They dont belong to me or the drama group. Thanks to their individual interest and support.

    pearl.

  126. Having done Homecoming, my thoughts were – i have talented actors.
After Homecoming, I am so glad that we are going thru a ‘self-cleaning’ process – the petty, obstinate, arrogant and dominating ‘actors’ had all left on their on accord or told to leave.

The ones that stayed and the new that joined are those who love & believe in drama. They know they have to fully commit and are happy to work with me as their leader and do not see me as picky or a ‘ya ya papaya or being pa tao’ as I heard from feedbacks.

Thomas & Frisna are happy to be with us whenever they can.
Janet as I understand is not up to it for health reasons.

The petty & obstinate are the ones that refuse to adhere to stage rules such as the ranking of sitting & curtain call sequences. They will want to be the centre of attention disregarding what is her position on stage.
A fine example – she was told during rehearsal that the invited guess Bibik should sit next to Ma. Even on the performance day itself, I went forward to point to her where to sit cos I knew she’s going to sit next to Ma again.
Disregarding my point is fine but she told others that I love to pick on her.

The arrogant are those that put their profession before her team which I felt we should all be equal when working as a group. Not happy to lend a helping hand to others by flaunting her professionalism is absurd. She is better off joinng other professionals at elite country clubs than be here with the simple ordinary folks where all chip in to be happy together.

The dominating people are those that upset the group.
Example – All had agreed happily to my email to dance with me when I sing JaJamBo. I love it for the fact that it adds vibrancy on stage and its easy to follow – just twist & shake to the music even non dancers can do.
She is not agreeable to my arrangement, changing it to 3 couples dancing.
Within these 3 couples, she made a few more changes until nobody wants to dance to her ideas anymore. And, she’s oblivious to the damage she had done to a nice idea of mine as a group. How can I not be glad they are all gone!!

Some do not know the real role of a ‘Drama Director’.
According to the dictionary – the job of a drama/theatre ‘DIRECTOR’ is to supervise the production of a show with responsibility for Action, Lighting, Music and Rehearsals which I had diligently done and help with the script too.

The ‘PLAYWRIGHT’ is the one that Writes The Scripts and a fee for his time and effort to think of the story & dialogues for actors to act it out.

Here, nobody needs pay me a cent and they understood from day one that its all team effort. I adopted the way I learnt as I feel some of them will eventually learn to write and direct, just as I am capable of now.

    pearl.

  127. A discord must certainly involve at least 2 unhappy people each with a perception of d grievance. When i watched homecoming i saw a cast of happy folks focussed n committed 2 a purpose. Sad 2 c departures so soon but let us give each other blessings n move on. Whoever has erred it’s only bcos tat person is as human as i m. Nice 2 leave fond memories as we wil all bound 2 meet again as mountain h2o wil. ????????????

  128. I hv heard it fr u, fr her n fr pple privy 2 d discord. Pearl, it’s yr prerogative 2 exclude any1 fr yr next productn but it’s not nice 2 wag a tirade when both hv sob stories 2 tel n can cry a river. Moving on augurs well 4 d future. Wallowing in d past doesnt.

  129. Hi Terence,

This could be another answer to your ‘why not many members join activities’.
I think they’d rather avoid conflicts than being trampled to death. Therefore adopting ‘Silence is Golden’ is the best option since telling your side of the story will get stamp. I dedicate this song to you.

    With Love,
    pearl.

  130. Silence is Golden. Indeed it is.

Imagine the conflagration which will consume all the good work everyone put in for “Homecoming” had the “she” under your reference not kept her silence. I can also imagine the consternation of Terence.

“Homecoming” was a reunion, a happy come-together of love ones and friends. Sadly, this family communal spirit seems to fly out of the window to suffer an early demise.

In fact, with your revelation here, disagreements were already brewing up to the nite of the show. Do we need to know all these? Wdnt it be better for us to think that everythg was as great as we had witnessed that nite?

All these arent pretty at all and most of us wont know of them if “Silence is Golden” was kept true to form.

No, Pearl-W, I am not treating you any less well than I treat her. In fact, she was rebuked when she tried to…..It is not a “showtime”.

I have just returned from SGH. No, I am not selling a similar sob story as Terence did. However, by all means sob if what the doctor told me – that my medical condition is irreversible – does jerk a tear from an eye.

My point is, move on. Life is short. And I believe that was also Ter’s point when he told us his state of non-prostate at the height of another discord.

  131. Hi Pearl, Tim,

I havent heard of this song “Silence is golden”. So, I thought I should do a search. Yes, I found it. “Silence is golden”. Song is on the left side of the club.

May not always be the best principle, but it does work here.

    Terence Seah

  132. Tim, I know you always like to ‘fud ngar hun’ therefore I do respond to your comments over my comments. Knowing you better thru the singing practises, I noticed your split personalities tho kind, soft spoken & gentle. If you had not expanded the scenario, nobody knows more than what I said of attitudes or more of what they were told at Kovan CC’s dance nite. I would also glady wish them well if they had called or emailed to acknowledge that they quit instead of telling others.

Purposely deviating to fairy Godmother so that you & I dont end into a real discord over others .. u continued to blah on then tel me to move on.

‘Silence is Golden’ – never my principle especially when I’m being bullied or
stepped. Some like to shut people up cos truths are ugly but necessary.

  133. ” Tim, I know you always like to ‘fud ngar hun’……….. I noticed your split personalities……..”

Pearl, when my ngar is hun, I sink my teeth in and bite. Dont hope for a nibble when that happens. Right now I have a toothache and that must be good news.

You sat next to me with some others when we dined and all chatted happily not long ago. That was 1 personality in me.

When, in here, I spoke up for another – erswhile yr friend too – you saw my other personality.

I will continue to split my personality like that even if it means speaking against my friend for another whether or not she is my friend.

” If you had not expanded the scenario, nobody knows more than what I said ………..”

What you said was not so objective; hence, my intervention. If it was an expansion, I wd have provided details. Lest it be forgotten, this isnt a play which entitles only 1 person to write the script.

” Purposely deviating to fairy Godmother so that you & I dont end into a real discord over others .. u continued to blah on then tel me to move on.”

Terence is confirmed a male so he isnt any mother, gourd’s or demon’s. The deviation wasnt necessary. I was hoping that you took the drift and wrote smthg nice for a face-saving closure to this episode. Up till now, I still dont see a discord btwn us but it’s up to you.

When I asked you to move on, I had meant your moving on and leave yr discord with her behind. In fact, if you look at it 3 months down the road, you will find that it wasnt the normal you to write that decisively derisive #173.

????????To me, you still glitter as a pearl. Dont lose the shine. Dont let a miscalculation turn a nice pearl into a bead.

Yes, dont cower when someone cows at you. However, do spend sometime thinking thru before putting the pen on the hand. I did before this reply. If not, you would have read smthg very different.

Now, go take a warm shower like I did after a good walk. Fun. No sun, no rain. Many pleasant dames and men polite and tame. Come, join us on our next Walk.

  134. Very impressive!! Thanks to your ‘intervention’ where your invention had blown out of proportion and your magic pen is very capable of turning a bead into a very fine grain of sand too. Maybe I could propose an Award for the ‘Most Powerful Magician’ in SHC. You did make 4 SHC members disappeared from you!

    Sayonara & Selamat Tingal!!!

  135. When I was young I was alway distressed and frustrated by what I THINK other people is thinking about me.

As I grow older and I think wiser I became to realise that the beauty of life is that everything that happen or we think is or will be happening is meaningless. It is the meaning we chose to give it that MATTERS.

  136. Pearl, you asked for the deletion of #184? Haha, too late too late.

Even if #184 which is contributed by you is deleted, the next post also from you asking for its deletion will appear as #184 unless you ask for it to be deleted too.

See, this is another instance of you letting your pen speed ahead of your thoughts.

Frankly, I dont see you doing harm in #184 so I think it can stay. All I see is a mellowing you……a pearl regaining her shine. (Pity the monk waiting and hoping to get a bead). Must be the work of the shower I recommended.

I caused 4 members to disappear? 4 meh? I wished I was this powerful.

Truth is, I faciliatated one’s disappearance so that he could focus on his lofty ambition of vying for the top job but they didnt give him the COE. So, he might return to SHC and I think he shd pair up nicely with you. A Cantonese too, you know, and definitely more suave than this tim liu who hurts you like a pile. “Love me loath me but that’s me”. Didnt I warn you?

Not having a good hand lately. That bead in the ring was jumping everywhere but.

    Wish me luck ok?.

  137. Hi Steven,

    Thanks very much for sharing.
I thought so too but sometimes things need explaining and others just meddle too much into my area that it gets out of proportion. Never worked and never in the corporate world made me diplomatically dumb. I just speak my mind. I do hope to get some help on human conflicts from you or anyone as I cant understand how not to respond when somebody keep pinching you. Others are simply cruel at their comments tho it did contradict what they say – dont waste time yet want to pry. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

    pearl – aunty.pearly@gmail.com

  138. Hi Pearl Wong,

I have not meet you and I do not know you at all.

It is best that I do not make any comments whatsoever as I was not involve in the drama acting and know nothing about what actually happens.

It is advisable to remain calm and tactful when dealing with members and whatever frustrations you have with them it is best not to write the comments in the forum.

Rather analyse the problem ” why are they quitting” and do your best to solve it amicably.

……Shall we leave the sad part behind and try to reconcile and start on a new show? ( Wise quote from Dan Huang ) very appropriate at the right time.

Learn to let go. Just move on as what that has been said cannot be retrieved.

  139. I shall bring forward Dan Huang’s post to here on his consent –

    Dan Huang Says:

    October 9th, 2011 at 6:47 pm
I can’t help reading all the comments here and feels that we are actually enacting a drama here. All the supporting cast are here. Lily and Dolly play their part. Geraldine contribute her scripts from afar. Daniel Chan not only sing but acted out his scripts too.

Henty Yip has have a meaty part, so has Caroline and Charles and Tian Soo. Tim of course play a large part in the acting scene. It look like almost everybody in SHC have come on ’stage’ to say their piece.

Unfolding in the drama, we have Terence relating his experience at the hospital and many speculating whether it is the ‘C’ issue. It was real fun as almost everyone have their scripts to adhere too.

The drama team led by Pearl do appreciate the opportunity to also play their part. It was something new to us and we all put in our efforts. Much adulation and scorn were hurl at us but we know that we are not professional and just doing what we could amidst the fun and friendship.

Certain acting parts are not up to expectation inspite of all the rehearsals we had, but we are first time acting on stage and tend to forget our lines. The important thing is to learn from our mistake and improve on the next show. But sad to say, there may not be another show as too much grievances are being aired and unhapinness abounds.

Shall we leave the sad part behind and try to reconcile and start on a new show?

    Dan

  140. Once in a while, we do get into an unpleasant exchange of words. I guess many SHCians are reading this Post on the sidelines. Dan has a point that all of us are on a stage. I usually do not say much during any heated exchange and differences in opinion. However to let it carry on is not too pleasant too. Let’s all have our say. I look forward to us closing this issue by Mon 10 Oct 2011.

    Terence Seah

  141. Wow, Dan Huang …
thats a brilliiant synoptical view of the whole SHC drama and true to every drop of its happenings .. “a story involving lots of conflicts”.

I would like to comment for the LAST time here ….

For me, I’m just too happy to keep churning out plays as my purpose here is to have like minded people have fun with drama and Dan, you are the best witness to our group since we met and started until now. So can Thomas, Frisna and the rest of the drama members as we chat, rehearsed and then drink & ate from the loving care of our Lydia Chin who brought us drinks and food cooked by her maid every rehearsal dates that we are together. Thanks very much LydiaC, we deeply appreciate your maid & you for the big efforts.

We NEVER ARGUE OR FIGHT throughout the whole period of ‘Homecoming’
but we do have ‘bits of disagreements’ amongst the casts at the end of it but not serious. After Homecoming, 2 of them left without a word – one was not happy saying that I picked on her. The other left becos of my teasing sms that got her into a misunderstanding with her new boyfriend. I teased her becos she was very playful with me all along and I’m glad they left cos unhappy people are unhealthy to our group. Anyway, thanks very much to the 2 of you, u know who you are, for participating and we all wish both of you all the best & happiness in the other SHC activities.

I care to explain so that members who are concerned understand why things happened. To those who are are not interested to know, I think its my turn to tell them ‘move on lah’!

Well, after the 2 had left, 4 new members joined in as they were very excited to participate in our new Kopitiam Musical. Upon asking why they join when some are saying our drama group is having problems… they said, “I dont care what others say. I join becos your play is very fun and interesting, something that I love & enjoy – acting, dancing & singing”.

Dan, you forgot our new show KOPITIAM MUSICAL and the Canton Karaoke Afternoon Get-together? Its on 27 Nov, 1 – 6pm. We will be posting it out after the Hokkien Nite event. And we can have more shows coming up if this one is just as welcoming if no outside forces get in the way but we must take a long break after 27 Nov for Spring Cleaning as Christmas & Lunar New Year are approaching very soon ya.

Thanks very much to the most talented Frisna & Thomas who perfected their roles even with minimum rehearsals and their supports to our future plays on adhoc basis.

Also thanks very much to Janet who came regularly and diligently rehearsing her role as Siao Mei even with her medical condition, at times saw her resting in-between. We all wish her well and that she’ll be in the pink of health very soon. Thanks also for your ad-hoc support.

To the rest of the drama members, thanks very much for your patience & participations in Homecoming and I’m very happy that you all enjoyed yourselves in this play and even came forward to tell me you all understood all the necessary disciplines needed for a near perfect show, that all of you had no hard feelings and are still happy to do the Kopitiam Musical as you all are very excited by the theme of the play.Terima Kasih Banyak Banyak!!

Yes, thats the spirit we must have in order to enjoy and have fun together on what we believe and love to do.

    Hi Steven Chan #189,

Thanks very much for the advice on human conflicts but I think you have mistaken my cry for help. Its not help I need to counter my own drama group.
We never argue or fight where Dan can witnessed to. Its the outside comments that meddle into our drama group and got it all fired up, left, right & centre.

Anyway, we are all still a very happy group with our new play coming up end Nov. Hope all of you will continue to support us. Thank You!!

Thank you very much to all those lovely people who emailed and called to wish me well with their concerns, sympathies and supports. Thank You All!!

THANK YOU All VERY MUCH & WITH MUCH LOVE…

I shall take my leave here…Sayonara!!

    Pearl.

  142. Hi Pearl

I’ve been following this thread and think I’ve been missing something spicy but, never mind lah!

What’s most important is, you’ve finally gotten it all OFF your chest!

I’m sure your many drama enthusiasts appreciate the opportunities you’ve given them to enrich their lives and us the audience, to enjoy and watch your dramas with envy.

It’s curtains down for Homecoming and time for Act I Scene I of KOPITIAM MUSICAL! Have I been following correctly? he…

    Best of Luck, Pearl!

    dAISY

  143. Terence, u r damn rite dat most of us r reading all tese comments on the sidelines including myself until my name was being mentioned by Dan which I dont noe why d bother.

For me, this event had closed its curtain couple of weeks ago so this shd b considered closed as far as I am concerned.

Sin u said we can had our final say, here it goes…

Dan, any program dat being put by members somehow or rather will hv both positive n negative effects, so what, just ask yourself, if u hv done ur best after all is the interest dat u hv dat prompted u took part in any program. And if u do, dat it. no nid 2 bother much of what others’ comments. Freedom of speech whether anot we liked it anot. My 7cts worth.

Gossips are everywhere whether 1 likes anot be it at Kovan CC or everywhere. I preferred 2 choose 2 believe dat these gossips were no big deal except just 2 create some fun/laughter among those who were sharing them unless they r channeled out from group itself by another party/pax which can b very unhealthy as who noe if this gossips were the original piece anot, rite. So d best, is to ignore them lor… Again, freedom of speech.. cant stop this, it happened everywhere within or out of SHC.

?????????? – I am a very firm believer of this..

That’s all what I wanted to say all these while… will not want 2 comment further on this thread again…

    Regards… Dolly

  144. Pearl-W, go put on yr reading glasses. Read thru yr #192 at least another 10 times and then count.

I have lost count of the “thank you” that you have said in there………..wasnt that a beautiful piece of writing?

Look up at the banner. Pretty smiles. Fond memories linger. This was to be a very beautiful thread and #192 shd put it right.

Gossiping is a scourge but like what Dolly has said, we simply cant stop the fluttering gossipy. Like mosquitoes, no one can be insulated from gossips. While some mosquitoes are swatted, many wd hv escaped.

So when someone gossips, it’s time to go sip one’s favourite beverage,

    ??????????????

    ??5????????????????????????????????????????

  145. Hi Pearl Wong @ 192,

………..they left cos unhappy people are unhealthy to our group. Anyway, thanks very much to the 2 of you, u know who you are, for participating.

I strongly felt that this comment should not be mentioned in the forum because it can create anger and resentment to those two. If I happen to be one of them reading your comment , I will feel v. unhappy and angry although my name is not mentioned but those that are involved in the drama acting will know exactly who the two members are.

    My 8 cts. worth.
You can either choose to agree or disagree.

I too am vocal and speak my mind.

  146. Steven-C, obviously you dont quite know Pearl-W. She shoots straight – sometimes too straight – hence my coming in to try ameliorate. I think inspite of my “meddling”, she still wants me to “meet her at that Pagoda before she is forced married to Mr Ma”.

“Unhappy people arent healthy for a group” is a fact hard to deny.

However, if she were me, it cd be put across like this :-

“………..I wished they had left happier. Still, my thanks to them for participating”.

I wd choose not be so forthright with what I saw as the truth for no smaller reason that they had given their best efforts to make the Act a success, and I wd like to sincerely wish them well.

Then again, I can be this cool bcos I wasnt dishevelled by smthg affecting her, perceived rightly or wrongly.

Going out now to look for a suit of 10-Ace then ?? liao.

  147. Ref #190, Dan and Pearl – thank you for reminding me of my crooning or croaking. That mid-autumn night’s dream is gone but certainly not forgotten.

When I was in Hong Kong recently, I went to a restaurant in Causeway Bay for dinner. There was a LIVE band and they played some nostalgic canto-pops of yesteryears. Among the many, I like this one and would like to share it with all SHC friends …

  149. Hi Daniel Chan,

However, my favourite song is pls click link

the popular blockbuster HK TVB drama serial ” In the Chamber of Bliss”

    Enjoy :)

  150. @ 205 , In the beginning lots of narrations, please drag the play cursor needle to almost 3/4 of the bar length to avoid narrations and listen to actual song piece.

  151. Hi all,

Since the Hokkien drama night has so many supporters, I was wondering why not for a Cantonese Theme Night theme with Karaoke songs /comedy drama to be held at a later date perhaps next year ???

Perhaps, this time round Tim Liu or other volunteers can be our EO as he speaks fluent Cantonese unlike me 1/2 past six Canton . ha ha ! :) as Geraldine puts it atrocious Cantonese. Bo pian!

  152. Steven-C, remember your old neighbour Confucius, that mabok fella who taught you what to eat to grow tall and how to live for 5,000 years?

2,000 years ago, Confucius famously said this to you “Ji shuo bu yu, wu shi yu ren” (typing from my kid’s computer so cant Chinese-write). Your translation – Bo Pian – is out of this world.

What he wanted you to remember is, if you wish smthg to happen but dont want to make it happen yourself, go back to your kampong to seek help. Confucius wouldbt hv known that a tim liu exists in 2011 and referred you to me.

Seriously, if the pipe hasnt burst, there will be a Canto Show in the pipeline, as early as in the last week of November 2011. Confucius will make an appearance – he agrees to be the midnite cowboy and thinks I seriously consider to be the duck.

  153. Hi Tim Liu @ 209,

……….go back to your kampong to seek help. If I can be the EO for this special event, I do not need to seek your help or others .

After all, I am asking for volunteers and not force upon you to be the EO. So why do you need to drag ” Confucius” into the picture.

Pls. let him R.I.P. If you are not really in favour of helping , just kindly decline and need not utter a whole lot of ” rubbish ” which is not relevant to the post.

Conserve your energy for better use.

  154. Steven-C, I return rubbish for rubbish.

You have this trashy habit of asking people to organise when you yoursel dont want to do. And when you ask me, I had to tell you off.

    Clear now?

  155. Dear Steven Chan,
Now you have learn something hahahaha

Although I can’t help to be EO, but if you need pest control, just ring ring ok hahahaha I’M ALWAYS AVAILABLE!!!

  156. Hi Tim Liu @ 212,

……. asking people to organise when you yoursel dont want to do ???
…..And when you ask me, I had to tell you off.

Tim, it is not that I do not want to be but this event really needs someone who is fluent and proficient in Cantonese which I am not good at.

I had been EOs for special food events and horti park gardening activities in the past something which I am familiar with and I went ahead to organise these activities for the benefit of all SHCians.

So I am not passing the buck to anyone or imposing upon you to be EO. Just hope one of our members will kindly raise up his/her hands to be an EO and make this CANTON NIGHT event materialise.

Ring ring Sir Henry Yippy , “pest controller” just go ahead and spray spray the rubbish . Ha ..ha ha ha…
