LAST Monthly walk’11: Tg Rhu/ Gardens by the Bay EAST (GB1)

 

       This is the LAST WALK for this year!

Date : 10 Dec 2011 (Saturday)

Start TIME:  4.20pm  SHARP!

Meet Place : Dakota MRT (CC8), Exit A  ie., opp Exit B!  (I recalled at Exit B, you see the control station) From Exit A, go up escalator to ground level.  Let’s gather around the grass patch.
On arrival, do use the toilet facilities as non will be available till more than an hour later, at BayEAST.

Getting there:
1)  MRT – Circle Line, Dakota Station CC8
By bus, alight either at Blk 99 or opp Blk 62, along Old Airport Road
Bus Svc#s: 10, 16, 30, 31, 32, 33.

Leaders:  ChristinaCL Chan and Lydia Soh.

This evening the stroll begins along the Geylang River towards Tanjong Rhu Promenade where lovely
condos dots the river bank along the Kallang Basin; one might see some water sports eg., dragon boat
and kayaking.

As we approach the Promenade, we can see the Kallang Leisure Park shopping centre on the opposite
bank.  After sights of lush condos estate, IF the weather permits, will add a twist to this walk with an
"itsy bitsy teeny weeny" flavour!  ahem,,, what are you thinking??  Come and you shall find out…  emoticon

After this, another of nature’s beauty to behold!  Bay EAST —
the 1st of the S$1-billion Gardens by the Bay!

Bay EAST was an interim park in support of YOG2010 (Youth Olympics) .  In October 2011, this relatively
NEW park is opened to the public to enjoy.  For now, it offers basic facilities but future development is
expected at a later stage.  
(Look for the infrastructure and interpretative signage showing the water sustainability story within the
interim garden).

The 32 hectares linear park, stretches along Marina Reservoir — offers a panoramic view of the overall
Marina Bay skyline (with Marina Bay Financial District and Supertrees at Bay South,  Marina Bay Sands,
Marina Reservoir, Marina Barage, Singapore Flyer and F1 Pitt Building as backdrop)… from a distance,,, 

The unobstructed views are superb, a feast for your eyes,,,snap away! with your cameras.   emoticon
Breathe in! expand your lungs with fresh air.

Now that our eyes and lungs are filled, let’s head back towards the Promenade, cross a suspension
bridge to Kallang Leisure Park to nurse our growling tummies.

    This last walk should be quite memorable for the year 2011
    and since I stayed in the East should not give it a miss.

    From the brief introduction everything seemed fine except for the suspension bridge. May I know is it like the Waverley Bridge of Hort Park or like Helix Bridge not so high up?

    Some of you might have known that I had this “height phobia” fear in me, cold sweat and jelly legs.

    Kindly let me know this “height” matter so that I will then decide to come or not.

    Maube someone can help me or give tips of how to conquer this “fear”!!

    I do not know n haven’t the time to find out why it is stated as a ‘suspension bridge’ probably due to the manner it is constructed.

  85. Hi Christina…allow me to help.

    EXIT A will lead to Jalan Satu. There is a space there to gather. WE MEET AT EXIT-A GROUND LEVEL.

    EXIT B will lead to Dakota Crescent where there are HDB flats and private condos. There is also a Police Post, so if you see all these you know you are at the WRONG EXIT.

    The main road, Old Airport Road, separates exits A and B.

    Check your kitty – a hat or sun shade, an umbrella, water-bottle (with water)and DIGITAL CAMERA (charge battery now).
    Put on comfortable shoes. See u !

Please advise all members that a group photo will be taken 2day (Sat 10 Dec) and to seek their cooperation to have everyone into the group for a “Family” photo or alternatively will have to break into 2 groups if the angle is not wide enough to cover all.     Anyway, whichever exit you go up from, if you see the main road, just walk to the back. One of us from the walk team will be there till 4.15pm to show you the way up! :D :D

  96. My msg @85 is intended for anybody who is not familiar with the place. You hv done a greatjob Christina. I wish I could help more . I shall be walking the 2 exits and the main road between 3.45 and 4.15 pm. Look out for a slim man with a bright orange cap if anybody needs help.

    Very very sorry I will not be able to come for the walk last minute as I m not feeling very well after having packing all the equipments ready for the walk. As I have not fully recover from my flu. I m still feeling dizzy and sweating which is not a good indication to do any exercise at this moment.

    So, I have decided not to go ahead with the walk as it will be too strenuous for me to carry the bag. camera, tripod to walk for 2 hrs. My apologies to you and Lydia for not be able to take any photos on this occasion.

    Hope everyone will enjoy this walk. Really miss this opportunity.

    Thanks, we r recovering fine after our antibiotics treatment. A little more charging and should be up 100%. Really missed the last walk which we have high spirits ready for it but down due to our illness. Now only looking forward to the 1st walk for 2012.

    You are welcome, it’s my great pleasure taking photos for most of the SHC walks which gave me the satisfactions and chances of improving my photographic skills as well as sharing what we experienced during the walks.
