  21. Hey GT

My appointment had been changed and I will definitely show up at Hans tomorrow after work. It’s been a while since I last attended any SHC event, so time to get out my name card and join you for some ‘nonsense’ hahahaha

Glad to know that there is finally the meeting of minds between you and Terence and congratulations on your appointment as the new CM…..hope WP’s mum and sibling (not referring to any political party hor)do not give you a hard time so that you need not have to call upon AF for help kekekekekeke

    Sockie

  22. Girlfren Socks

    Thank you!

Am glad that you are able to make it.

I am not certain about ‘the meeting of minds’ between Braless Terence and I. We don’t see eye to eye although we have the same goals for the club, whatever that means……kakakaka.

Reeli reeli hope I don’t have to call upon AF due to WP’s mum and sibling.

    See you, darling.

  23. 1) Hi Geraldine,

Nice to be able to meet you in person to-morrow. Please list me in as attendee. Sure, your tasks as our new SHC Club Mgr can be as challenging as they get, but with your anticipated calibre and background experience we SHC members without a shadow of doubt can count on your creativity to move SHC forward with more club activities in the offing. We wish you all the best in this regard.

    2) Hi Ronald Lam,

You called me up this morning indicating that you’ll be coming to Hans to-morrow. Unless my vision have failed me, I have yet to locate your name amongst the registered.

    Blessings,

    Terry Tang

  24. Hi Geraldine,

    Hi Dorine

Hope you have the time to drop by.

    Hi Ronald

Thank you and see you this afternoon.

  26. Good morning Geraldine

Hope it’s not too late to be included for the above event.

I’ll be there. The last time we met was in Sentosa… more than a year or two ago? However, I can still remember your looks vividly.

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriella Chua

  27. Ronald Lam,

My sincere apologies. I forgot that today is your workday & your shift is from afternoon until 8.00pm. Actually you didn’t have to take leave from your boss just to appear at Hans. Work is more important to you, as is to all other currently employed, to put food on the table.

Despite my previous prompting to you to attend the meeting at Hans this evening, it is OK for you to skip it and report for work. Work comes first. If there is anything new discussed today at Hans, I will write to you.

If you don’t pop up at Hans, SHC members at Hans can understand the reason behind it.

    Thanks & rgds,

    Terry Tang

  28. Hi Geradine – hope to drop by after work and to chat up with those SHC gurus about entering the local stock markets for the medium longer term ………

    cheers

  29. Hi G-Ting,
Heartiest congrats to u on your new appt as CM of SHC.
2nite here I come to meet the new and the old.
Nor – apa khabar?, jumpar lagi ini hari at Hans.

  30. Hi John

Very happy that you are joining us.

Can’t wait to catch up with you.

    Hi Petula

    Looking forward to meeting you.

    Hi Freda

    See you there.

    Hi Peter

    Thank you!

Yes, meet the new and catch up with the old. Nice…

  31. Hi Geraldine

Please register myself and another member Steven Yuen for this evening gathering.
Will drop by after work around 6pm.

    See you later.

    Cheers!
    Victor Chee

  32. Hi all,
It is great to see so many members registered for the event. It is regrettable that I cannot attend the gathering foe personal reasons. Hope you folks have an enjoyable time.
All members who take photos of today’s event please email your photos to me for uploading to our website. My email address is
    lee_kingseng@hotmail.com

    Cheers

  33. My wife Annie Tan and me want to thnak Lilian Teo for introducing us as new members last night.
All the members in this club are friendly and cheerful.
We are also please to meet up with Geraldine Ting (my thought when first met her was, how can she join Silver Hair Club of the age below 45?)
We will go through the activities organise by all the EOs and find time to join them.

    Cheers!

  34. Dear All

There are 2 parts to this.

    Part 1

My heartfelt appreciation to Ann Lim and Lilian Teo for your help at the Registration Desk. Mwah!

To my awesome friends who went there to support me and to catch up with/meet other members. Double mwah!!

To those members I finally met for the first time, thank you for being there. Hope you guys enjoyed this gathering.

To our brand new members, Johnny and lovely wife Annie. It was nice meeting both of you and we look forward to hearing and seeing more of you.

    NOW the fooking ugly part.

    Part 2

Patrick S J Lee did not register for this gathering, went round busy making his presence known and when I questioned his non-registration, he immediately turned ugly and said, I quote ” I am not here for the gathering. I accompanied my friend.”

Dear members, as an EO I had every right to throw his miserable ass out of our gathering which I did not as we were all having a pleasant time. Also, I do not want to lower myself to his level.

Those who know him will know what the fook I am talking about. For those who don’t know him, well, now you know.

I have informed Terence of this ugly behavior/attitude and Terence finds Patrick S J Lee’s remark ‘Unacceptable’, his gatecrashing also ‘Unacceptable’ (it was not the first time) and needs appropriate handling.

I hereby issue a WARNING to Patrick S J Lee; no more gatecrashing and ugliness when legit questions are asked by EOs.

All your comments henceforth will be monitored/moderated very closely.

  35. Hi Geraldine

I have been sick at home the whole of last week and even now. Sorry I did not attend your Monthly meeting.

I just read your post above #80 and almost had a heart attack from laughing too hard. The Doctor told me to take it easy but I find it hard to be miserable.

In today’s Sunday Times they reported that there are 8 animals protected under our Road Traffic Act. Goats, Horses, Dogs, Pigs, Sheeps, Cows, Horses, Mules and your favourite animal ASS. I didn’t even know we have them in our island.

So better you be in HK because this ASS may be an MP in Singapore one day.

  36. Geraldine

    Ha ha ha ha ha!!!

I saw the creep and was wondering the same as I would definitely have noticed his name if he had registered.

    Good on you!

Oh don’t you worry TS. I don’t see him as an MP in the future. I’d rather have a donkey. Ha ha ha.

  37. Hi TS

Get well soon! Missed your presence at our private dinner and the monthly gathering.

The day when an asshole becomes an MP is the downfall of my beloved country. Big time!!!

  38. Hi Geraldine,

Glad to see our Club manger in PERSON finally !
WOW! you set the TONE right from the 1st monthly meeting
regarding to the unfortunate incident…’This Lady
is not for ‘Turning’,You turn if you want to” …sounds
familiar ? SHC have our very own Iron Lady ! Hooray !!

  39. Hi Tian soo,

i was TOLD that you have an Organic Farm somewhere…
Disappointed that you did not turn up at the meeting..
Like to know How you do your Compost etc..Does your tomatoes
plants bear fruits ? Was told by many sources that it is NOT
easy to grow here .But my Italian friends grow theirs
in POTS and they have very good harvests.. Any tips to where
to get the GOOD Soil..I got mine from Germany S$17/a packet,
only 10 tomatoes..made a big loss !haha! But Growing our own vegetable give “emotional dividends” that is beyond descriptions..

Hope you get well soon ! take care !

  40. Hi Felice

It was nice meeting you, too!

Glad to have your support for my approach in dealing with nasty members.

My thinking is simple; we are all here to make friends. Yes, there will be members we will not like let alone to be friends with BUT the point is to be courteous, respectful and have basic decency.

When a member chooses to be an asswipe, he/she/it will not be tolerated even if he/she/it has not broken any of our rules/taboos. Why should members put up with such shiat?

  41. Hi all SHCs

Let’s keep the SHC meetings eventful and happy occasions! I am glad to see so many posts and positive comments especially on Geraldine’s appointment as CP.

Without getting into argument, I’ve been to many monthly meetings where SHCs turned up without first registering. They’d only need to report to the registration desk and give their names. The details above only says “strictly for registered SHC members”, so, if prior website registration is required than it should be more specifically stated.

And, we should not tolerate ill manners; let’s all strive to be courteous and more respectful in our interactions. I am sure we can all support Geraldine on that.

  42. Hi Geraldine

Congratulations to you on being appointed as our club manager and also the successful gathering of the month held on 24 Feb 2012.

I understand that there are more that 2 photographers taking photographs of the event. I have contacted Sockie and Pat Oei.

I would be grateful if you can tell me who are other photographers.

    Thank you

  43. Hi Kenneth

Was hoping you had the time to join us and for me to meet you.

What is a CP? Please share.

Appreciate your sharing about past monthly gatherings whereby members registered on site which is not encouraged nor condone.

You are right about the ‘strictly for registered SHC members’ and I did state at my comment #76 that members planning to join us ‘do register here and join us there’.

Subsequently, Clara and Sue registered on behalf of other members. This is what we are talking about; having the courtesy and abiding by the club’s rule of registering for any gathering/activity/event.

Your last paragraph about not tolerating ill manners etc shows that you are a man of integrity. Reeli reeli wish I had the chance to meet you on this trip.

Thank you for standing up to irritants be it male or female.

    Take care,

  44. Hi Johnny n Annie

Wow, your comment made this old cow very happy. Have to thank my Botox, kekekekeeeee……..

Have fun in this club and do feel free to organize an activity.

  45. Hi King Seng

Again, I wish you could join us.

    Thank you for your support.

Seriously, I have no idea who are the other photographers. So, members who had taken pics at the monthly gathering, kindly send to King Seng.

I have heard that you are a nice guy, good for us, however, do feel free to say No to ridiculous request/s.

  46. Folks – Good morning –

I am not “starting an argument” here. I am a law-abiding citizen –

Event Organizers have the right to expel any undesirable character from their events.

Just need clarification on the club’s rule on the policy, “strictly for registered SHC members”.

Every monthly gathering, I want to attend. Most times (like the one on the 24 Feb), I had several things to do. I didn’t “register on line”, because, I think that it is rude of me, to “register”, and then later, NOT show up.

I had several errands to run. One of them was to send my car for VICOM inspection at Sin Ming Road, then renew the insurance and road tax at Bras Basah Road. I told myself that if my errands get done by 5.30pm, I will drop in to the monthly gathering to say HI to everybody. If I finish later than that, then – no point to fight the peak hour traffic jam, to arrive possibly at 7pm, and see some people start to leave at 8pm….

I was surprize that I had completed all errands by 530pm. I decided to drop in. And I was glad I did. I met up with several people I’d like to meet, cuz I have read their comments/postings, and I liked what they wrote. It’s good to “put a face to the name”. And I was glad to meet up with Geraldine, petite and stunning, no change from the time I met her at the “Cabaret Night”.

So – let me know – NEXT time – I ought to abide by the club’s rule, and I should NOT have dropped in? I am a “law-abiding citizen”.

    W

  47. Hi Jacqueline

You have mentioned a practical situation – For some activities, I want to attend very much but I am not sure if I can make it.

I have also encountered this problem many times before. I have to work on Sat, but most of the time I can leave (snake out) earlier, but cannot be sure until that day. If I want to attend the activities on Sat, such as walking/cycling, I will register but mentioned that it is tentative and state my reason. I will try my best to attend the meeting, but sometimes I will give it a miss if I really have to work on Sat. I consider this should be accepted by the EO

Furthermore, even we have not registered in advance, but found we have time for the event and want to join, I think we can still go, but explain to the EO on the spot. Most important, I think is the attitude.

    Hi Geraldine

Congratulate the success of the first monthly meeting you organized. From what you have done, I feel you are full of nonsense when you can nonsense, but dire where situation required. May be this is what a CM really need.

  48. Hi Jacqueline, Andrew and All Members

Until Terence changes the club’s policy regarding Registration before an activity/event/gathering (a/e/g), do adhere to this rule.

For those who cannot confirm their attendance until the last minute, the logical way is to register your name as a Tentative BEFORE the a/e/g so that EOs have an idea how many members will be there.

In the event that you can’t make it, it’s perfectly fine.

For a/e/g that requires payment in advance, obviously members can’t just turn up, plonk their cash at the Registration Desk and expect/demand to be allowed in. This is literally making a fool of themselves and will not be tolerated.

This way, EOs do not have unnecessary stress or aggravation.

  49. After reading the comments and now having some time to spare, I would like to air my concern, with a view to future relating matters. After all there are more events to come.

I remember vividly in the post, “Geraldine Ting starts her new role as Club Manager wef 1 Mar 2012”, I had said, among other things, “Keep a free rein but crack the whip when necessary. We are just beside you.”

Revisit # 81 above. Part 1 and Part 2 have demonstrated the awesome and awful nature of participants, respectively. As the EO for the night, Geraldine has had given the credit when it is due and “crack the whip” when the case warrants it. Read Part 2 carefully and you will note that the disdain is not simply because of the non-registration online.

In any event, the EO, the assistant EO (if any) and all the helpers (assigned by the EO) are VIPs. They organise the event, they do the necessary and they call the shot. The rest of us are there simply to have fun. It is de rigueur therefore, on the part of participants, to make their presence known to the EO, preferably well in advance.

While we understand that there are people who are uncertain and hence unable to commit in writing prior to the event, we must also be aware there are those who simply want to be remembered as “above the law”. In past events, I have heard remarks like, “This is a public place why I cannot come?” or “What right has he/she to chase me away?”

Indeed, places we hold our events are not exclusively ours to use. There is so much that an EO can do if a gatecrasher persists. Adopting a tit-for-tat attitude will only make the scene ugly, hence falling into the trap of the party-pooper. Geraldine was right to keep her cool then. We all had a great night because of her restraint.

We can only call for RESPECT. Respect the EO for what he/she is doing. Respect the helpers. Respect all the participants. And most important of all, respect oneself (this may be tough for some).

Should we entertain “unregistered” participants? My opinion is – it is on a case by case basis. The EO, after having considered all factors, and by virtue of his/her role; shall have the jurisdiction to admit a participant who registers on the spot. Conversely, there is no reason – morally, or legally if you wish – why he should entertain a person who refuses to abide by simple house-rules.

Hate to say this, but declared persona non-grata can still view the event from a distance.

  50. Geraldine #98 Daniel #99

You two have set the tones how an SHC event should be conducted and laid down what are the decorum and the attitude of the attendance.
In all events, there are ground rules to follow, failing which there will be chaos. An EO has to make prior arrangements for the event such as logistics and payment if applicable.

  51. Hi Daniel n Robert

Daniel, I guess your cup of coffee helped me kept my cool…..kekekekee.

Robert, totally agree that ‘in all events, there are ground rules to follow, failing which there will be chaos.’

Very nice meeting you! We’ll chat more when we next meet.

  52. Daniel at #99

My comment at #94 started, and ended, with the sentence, “I am a law-abiding citizen”.

While I agree with your observation that “there are those who simply want to be remembered as ‘above the law'” – I’d like to emphasize that I am NOT one of them.

I firmly believe that no one is above the law. Absolutely, no one.

  53. Geraldine #99 –
The scenario that I have described at comment #94, is highly UNLIKELY to repeat itself. I meant – if Bras Basah Rd was not within CBD and quite near to Pickering St, I would probably have gone home, instead of dropping in, unregistered.

It’s good that you have stated very clearly – that it is acceptable to register for an activity/event/gathering, with the proviso “tentative”. Thank you for your reply.

  54. OH dear Jacqueline. I am sorry if my choice of words appeared rather pungent. No No never my intention to insinuate that you had broken the law. The phrase “above the law” is just a figure of speech (hence the quotation marks). It refers to people who indiscriminately challenge the authority – for whatever reason best known to them. Indeed, there are negligible, if any, such characters in our midst.

I maintain that the EO shall call the shot for last-minute participants. If I were in charge, I would gladly admit a law-abiding citizen like you. Thank you for allowing me to clarify.

  55. Dear SHCians
All the photographs taken had been uploaded to our website and a link is created.
    Have fun viewing the photos.
