MARCH MONTHLY GATHERING – 29/3/12 (Thursday)

Dear Members

This will be my 2nd time leading a monthly meeting.
First one was held in August 2009 3 months after I joined the first gathering (when I was still innocent and naive and took up the call of then CM Dolly Lim). This time it’s due to an enthusiastic voice calling "Frisna, I can’t be the EO for March, can you please help me?" I said "why don’t you try another person or inform the CM, maybe she can find the replacement" but she said "no  lah, i prefer to find the replacement myself" Voila, dear Audrey (a very friendly, helpful and responsible lady) here I am!

Date: 29 March 2012 (Thursday)
Time: 18.00 – 21.00
Place: Hans Cafe, PARK MALL #B1-03 (separate section just for SHC)
MRT: Dhoby Ghaut
Buses:  7,14,16,36,65,77,106,111,124,128,162,167,171,174,175,190,700,971E
+ others that stop along Clemenceau ave

Fee : Order whatever you want from a la carte menu or from the set meal list (thread # 9)

Agenda:1. Introduction of new members (fun way) and old (esp non active) members
2. Quiz/Games (yes, with prizes for winners)
3. Debate/Impromptu speech corner (yes, you may shout and yell but punch only the table not the opponents)
4. Any other matters (future activities announcement, interest groups program etc)

So, after more than 2 years, hope to see all of those who previously supported me plus the new comers who joined SHC after august 2009 (of course those joined before that but was not at my 1st gathering also welcome lah)

  1. Hi,I am new here. Just send you an email with my particulars. Would love to join you on 29 March 2012 but I will be away.

Also, am wondering if you could connect me with the person who organized the Yunnan trip last year for fellow Silver Heads Members. We are making a trip to Yunnan in April and hope to visit the DongChuan RedLand which is not covered in our itinerary.

  4. Hi Frisna

I will be there; twenty bus services to Dhoby Ghaut? We will need them if the MRT breaks down!

Do we need to order food in advance? I’d be happy with just their kaya toast, coffee and two eggs.

I’m also looking forward to see the new PERMANENT name tags: Are they of stainless steel or carved in stone? I certainly do not meed one which will outlast me!

  5. Hi Frisna,

Just thought we should highlight the place for the March Monthly gathering is Hans Cafe at Park Mall, Dhoby Ghaut or we will all land up at Upper Pickering.

Thank you for offering to make the permanent name tags.

And, I shall be coming to the monthly gathering.

    Terence Seah

  6. Hello Kenneth

From your comments it seems like the fun has already begun! I was planning to engraft the name onto a thin gold bar but since it surely will outlast everybody, i’ve decided to just make it from normal A4 paper….so what year did you join SHC? No need to order food in advance unless you want their set meal, then need 3 days notice

Jimmy: just make it confirm lah. it’s indoor and so many buses going there. rain shouldn’t be a problem or i’ll shelter you with a big umbrella to walk the 5m across the street to PARK MALL. So see you there ya (PS: what year did you join?)

#13: Hurray, the Chief is coming!! any one who needs an autograph please don’t forget to bring a big pen!

yes, I did put PARK MALL in capital letters hoping everybody will notice it. thanks for the reminder Terence. so what year should I put below your name?

Hi Yoke Lai: welcome! it’s better late than never…

  7. hi Frsna
Pls schedule me tentative (I need to apply time off from work), but will only come after work. let you know closer to the date). Will do a balloon demo, for the Balloon IG (Interest group) if I do come.

    Cheers
    Sylvia

  8. Hi Frisna

Wow! Name tag in A4-size paper! Name must be large enough so that eveyone can see it… we are SilverHairs!

I cannot remember when I joined SHC but it must be some years ago… I was interested in the topic about retirement living in Thailand (discussed in SHC website then); and also found out that Terence was an acquaintance from back when he was with the local newspaper.

So we should order our food by the 26th Monday? Mine’s the escargot with truffle sauce followed by a rare wagyu steak entree and an exquisite orange chocolate Cointreu roulade for dessert. Haha, is Felice coming?

  9. #20 Kenneth: no need to pre order since its not set meal. but your list of food is tantalising, maybe i should order them for all those that attend and send you the bill!

#21 Hi Anne: very glad you’re joining. see you!

  10. Dear All:

It’s only 6 days to go and yet so few responses.

As we are getting a special section of the restaurant, i need to reconfirm 3 days in advance or else we just use the commmon area with the shortest reg.list in SHC monthly gathering history!! (but will be hard to play the game/quiz i’ve prepared not to mention the impromptu debate/speech if any)

So my dear friends, waiting for your support within these 3 days!!

But no matter what the show will go on with the dozen names on the list…..so please don’t back out last minute

  11. Hi Frisna

Inspired by Steven Chan, I want to meet more new members in SHC. Please registered me for the meeting.

Hi, the others who attend the meeting

I am not good in chitchatting and not used to many people. So if you see me keep quite (or may be not so friendly), please forgive me. But promise, I am a very good listener except my English is not good. See you all on 29

  12. #25 Andrew Yeung,

Please don’t worry, you won’t be tested on your spoken or written English. Terence will not issue us with English exam papers or a questionaire for us to fill in. We all are there at Hans/Park Mall to fellowship in one another’s company. We are in good company at this SHC gathering with everybody being treated as equal in a comfortable environment. Fear not, nobody over there will be judging one another on the basis of his or her command in English. There is also no restriction on speaking Mandarin or dialects if doing so helps us to understand one another better than speaking only in English for whom some are not fluent.

    Blessings,

    Terry

  13. Hi Frisna! I Support, support! Cannot remember when I joined SHC…Terence gave me the year not too long ago but I deleted that email…

    Cheers
    Ros

  14. Hi Frisna,
Could you register Dora Lim. She joined SHC some time ago and could not remember the year. She would like to attend the Monthly gathering and meet the members.
    Thanks, winnie

  15. #25 Andrew:
don’t worry. you just need to smile and i’ll do the talking. c u !

#30 Terry: it’s not dementia but rather you’re too enthusiastic to give advice to andrew hee hee

  16. Hi Frisna,
Glad to have seen u at the SRC the other day and your reminder of Monthly Meeting on 29th.Hope to be there. Will be happy to meet anyone interested in going to Penang or drive to Malacca. If unable to attend, please contact me later.
    Date of Joining – 2007.

    Richard

  17. Hi Frisna,

May I suggest that our date of joining SHC be printed on our name cards. Many of us forget this, In this way, we will not forget.

    Richard

  18. Hi Frisna!

I really can’t recall my date of joining SHC. Most probably a few months before SHC held a karaoke Hokkien Nite at Oxford Hotel at which I sang a number of songs. I can’t remember the exact date of that event. I definitely will have to ask Ms Sally Tan, the event organiser of Hokkien Nite. Oh yes, she’s a marvellous crooner with a honey-sweet voice.

Why knowing our own respective joining dates is critical because a very kind soul Frisna is going to issue us with an individual badge/name tag with a SHC date-joined printed on it.

    Thank you Frisna in advance.

    Blessings,

    Terry

  19. Hi Frisna,

I think I joined SHC on the 2nd week of August, 2011, please put acceptance of my application for membership date as 9 August, 2011. Thanks a lot.

Concurrently, I wish to thank SHC member Ms Sally Tan for her kind assistance in this regard.

    Blessings,
    Terry

  20. Hi Frisna,

Annie Tan and me join SHC Feb this year. Please register us for this Thursday meet. Want to know more SHC’s members.

    annie/johnny

  21. Hi Frisna

Nobody, including your goodself, has ordered any food… do we need to order? Is there a food order counter where we can have sandwiches, cake, drinks or anything like in other Han’s outlets?

I would like to try their Chicken Chop 1005 but I sure don’t want to be eating alone with the others watching me!

  22. Hey Frisna

Chicken Chop at Hans – I like. But I am attending because I like to support you. Need any help?

Date of My ‘Inception’ with SHC: September 2010

    LS

  23. Oh yeah, there is going to be a 3-hr SHC “TALKATHON” with fun and games thrown in during interval at Hans Park Mall from 6 – 9pm. The more we talk with one another, the better we get to understand one another’s perceptions and interests in a familylike fashion. More importantly, we value our togetherness inside the SHC entity.

    Terry

  24. Hi Chengpun, Johnny+Annie, May Woo, Terry:

Looking forward to seeing you in 2 days time!

Lydia: Thanks for the support. Put you as help for registration ok

Hi Richard: glad for the chance meeting too. see you this thursday!

#42 Kenneth: yes it’s just like the other Hans. you can order on the counter including the set meal. ok? Prepare any pet subjects for debate/discussion (Terry too, if have any).

  25. Dear Terence & Geraldine

referring to some of the comments and suggestions regarding the date of joining. can you kindly supply the date in bracket next to each of the participants’ name? I need to print them latest thursday morning.
Thanks a lot for the help.

  26. Hi Frisna #48,

SilverHairsClub does not keep records of when a person joins as a member. The only records we have are the name, email address and tel number. We know the age, and this is fixed at 45+. There is no expiry date, as membership is lifetime.

We keep no records of the home address, sex M or F (even though this info is supplied at the time of application).

So far, this has worked well. Maybe if there is a need in the future, we might keep more data, but for now, I guess we can keep it simple.

    Terence Seah

  27. #52 Terence:

thought you’ve the system to allocate members number according to the year and month of their joining (that’s how i got mine).

In this case, will only indicate the year on the name tag for those who supply it.

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow! please bring along some topics for debate (i know you’ve a lot on your sleeves. i’ll be the moderator, you just sit and relax ok?)

  28. Hi Frisna please include us tentatively – with husband James. Will try our best to attend if he’s not too tired out after another earlier appointment. thanks

  29. Hi Frisna,

Pls register Juliet SP Ong & myself for the event. Thks.

Johnny, Annie, Inez & James looking forward to meet you all.
Angie, how was the download issue, ok? I have completed all
    the series, haha.

    C u all,take care,
    Cheers,
    Lilian

    Cheers, LydiaChin.

  34. Hi Folks: signing off…..for those who can make it last minute, just sign up here and walk to HANS CAFE PARK MALL!

for those on reg. list no.2 to 42: see you all soon!!

  35. Frisna dear, my apologies for not being able to make it to this evening’s gathering. I’m meeting my hubby after his work to have my handphone fixed. The phone is in his name.

    Sorry sorry sorry
    Ros

  36. Dear Frisna,

Thank you for a very stimulating and lively evening. I really enjoyed the gathering and fellowship. I like the debate on if you strike a million dollars, which charity would you donate to, the children or old folks. It was good to see everyone so actively involved. Some strong and justifiable points were raised, others simply hilarious. It was fun, just bantering.

Frisna, I like the games section too. Made me put on my thinking cap and stir up the think-tank.

Thank you again for all your efforts in organizing this event.

  37. Phew! I’m glad the meeting is over!

When it rained heavily at my area just before 4PM i
worried that the attendance will be veeerrrry low. I worried about being late too as i’d not bought the tag holders nor collect the name tags from SK Chua.

But being committed, rain or shine the show must go on!

I’m glad i got the holders at the 3rd shop and arrived at Park Mall on time to see SK there. I’m even more glad that the attendanees are more than expected.

Now I hope the meeting was not far from your expectation and that EVERYBODY enjoy the gathering!

Thank you very much SK, Ann Lim, Lydia Soh for your assistance. Sylvia for the baloon demo and Terence for being there.

First timers: Lam HT, Lynn, SK Yap, Winnie, Yoke Lai: welcome to the club! hope you felt the warmth of SHC.

Second timers Annie Tan, Johnny Pow, May Woo, Juliet Ong: keep coming to SHC monthly gathering!

Old timers whom i met for the first time Jimmy Tsin, Mega Abdullah, Kenneth, Terry, Vincent: with your lively attitude, you guys certainly will bring more vibrant to the club. keep it up!

As for the rest of my friends and supporters? what can i say but give each and everyone of you BIIGGG hugs!

Don’t forget to switch off light for 1 hour this sat! With each of our contributions we can help to save the earth!!!

  38. Hi Frisna,
Thank you for organising this month’s gathering for SHC members. It was a rousing evening filled with laughters and voices. We enjoyed it.

    Regards
    Lam HT and Bee Gek

    Hey Yew Kwong.
Glad to have met you. Since I joined SHC, noticed your name, someone I know but has not been in contact for a long long time. Good to know that you are fit as ever and doing cycling still. For me, I have stopped doing sports for a long time, now taking it up again. We will catch up someday. Old friend.

    Regards
    Lam HT

  39. Ha ha Inez you’re good. next one will be on you!

Jimmy (sorry, didn’t catch it. why are you called captain?): you looked cool in the shade. please send the photo to SHC Picture Mgr at lee_kingseng@yahoo.com.sg for King Seng to download the pic to this post. thanks

Lam: though you and BiGi didn’t make as much noise as I did but am glad to see you both there – it made a nice scene!

#71: Hi Ros, aiyo why the hp compete with my meeting to get attention? anyway, your name tag is with me. will give to you whenever we meet ok?

nametags also ready for: Agnes Lim,Molly Quek, Cheng Pun, Freddy Heng and Douglas Chan. Contact me at frispjt@yahoo.com when you want to claim it (it took a lot of time and effort for SK Chua to do it, so shouldn’t go to waste)

  40. 3 cheers are in order.. CHEERS.. CHEERS.. CHEERS.. to Frisna for a meeting that I would called the best SHC meeting at HANS! Whenever we talk about SHC meeting in HANS, the picture of yet another “meeting” made up mostly of “hi..talk..talk..talk.. bye-bye” conjures in my mind. However, this HANS meeting at Dhoby Ghuat, takes the cream of the cake! The best HANS meeting I’ve ever attended. Keep up the good work, Frisna. The next monthly meet EO has big shoes to fill…!

I particularly enjoyed THE “debate”.. hmm.. perhaps we can hv more of such?

    Cheers.

  41. I must say Frisna and her team have organised last night’s SHC monthly gathering well. It was creative, and different. Thank you.

The SHC monthly gathering is intended to be a place and time, where members gather together to meet new friends, and where members get to know one another.

As clarification, the EO of this event is not required to put up quizes, demos or games. The decision is up to the EO.

Frisna and team, I am sure you have incurred some costs in getting the name tag holders, and making sure the event turn out smoothly. Thank you.

    Terence Seah

  42. wow wow wow Lydia, don’t make my head so big or else i won’t be able to squeeze thru MRT door!
indeed we could have more debate as i prepared 3 topics. but as time is too short, no chance loh. but i think the impromptu debate of “orgy” night was interesting too!
thanks for coming and bringing debbie too.

Jimmy + whoever took pic last night: Pls note KingSeng correct email address.

    #82 Terence:
    a. SK Chua did the design, print out and delivery to the venue (I couldn’t open word, xl or whatever files that required payment to microsoft)

    b. Lydia Soh had to sneak back to office to print the Reg.List (in alphabethical order) risking being fired by the boss

    c. Ann Lim had to lug her car plate numbers and rushing from her dentist appointment

    d. Me – missed 1 badminton exercise and lots of sleep

so total how much it cost ah? can bill SHC? jooooookingggg

  43. Hi Frisna,

Annie and me enjoy last night gathering. It’s really nice of you to get everyone to introduce themselves. I get to see more members, estimated 60% of the 40 plus who is not at the Febuary gathering. When I combine the two months gathering it means I have met some 85 members during my one and a half month with SHC.

Terrence, I believe there are many more members both active and non-active and wandering whether you can recognise all of them. I heard you spend most of your time outside Singapore. Hope to see you again whenever there is an opportunity.

Kenneth, we have a brief chat at the “Old Age – The Last Lap” posting. Dinner time, game time, introduction time… not much time to further our sharing. How about joining Inez’s comming badmintion seesion? Annie and me will be there this thursday. Hope to see you again.

Cheers to all ! Frisna, it was a memorable gathering. :)

  44. Hi Frisna

Congrats for a job well done! I’m sure everyone enjoyed themselves and the interesting activities including balloon sculpting, quiz and debate. It was also good to be able to put a face to the many posts that we have read in the SHC webpage.

    Hi Johnny

Yes, we should catch up sometime but I don’t play badminton especially with my bad eye. But i’m sure we can meet thru other SHC activities. I am considering the April walk and would like to walk Bukit Brown and MacRitchie… let’s see.

  45. #79 Hi Frisna,

I was a harbour pilot, ship’s captain and finally I love best as port captain. Instead of sailing with the ship, I flew ahead to the port to await our company’s owned or chartered vessel to ensure quick turnaround of the vessel in port. After despatching the vessel away, time for a tiger as incentive to our agent’s staff for their co-operation. A day’s saved in port means US$20,000 to Us$30,000 depending on the size and flag of the chartered vessel. Wine, women, song…. no holds barred.

  46. Hi Jimmy,

Having met you at the monthly gathering, I can see you are a jovial and sincere person. Fun at heart too. I have always been concern with SHC sex imbalance. On previous gatherings, we use to see 70:30. Today, and only on occasions, we see 60:40.

Maybe you can help me and the club. We need your help to bring the numbers to 50:50. Please consider, I will get in touch with you.

    Terence Seah

  47. #84 Johnny: are you an accountant or what? with the speed of your introductions and involvement in gatherings, soon you’ll beat everybody in knowing the most members!
I enjoyed meeting you and annie too despite not having much time to chat. Yes, hope to see you both again perhaps in SHC badminton competition?

#85 Hi Kenneth: glad you’re there even though you’re not as ‘jovial’ as you sounded on the post. Hope it’s not due to disappointment after seeing us in person!

#86 wow wow Jimmy, no holds barred, no wonder terence is grabbing you right away! His first project to get 50:50 or 90:10 (in male favor) must be the “O.G” night!!

Hey Terence, funny you mentioned abt the scale. i think my first monthly gathering (as EO) breaks the record for most attendance of males right?

  48. Hi Frisna,

I am not an accountant and also not into any other business since I stop managing my small commercial cleaning biz of five years.

I tried to remember all those I have said hi to. Sometimes people look at me and smile. I also return by smiling and yet cannot recall when I met them :)

Competition in badminton? No. Soon Inez and James will find out how often I will miss the shuttlecocks. I try to join as many activities as possible. Basically for social interaction and hoping not to return a smile trying to recall when we last met. :)

  49. Hi all
The photographs taken by Terence Seah, Frisna Tan and Tsin Cheng had been uploaded and link created.
    for your viewing pleasure please
    cheers
    King Seng

  50. Dear King

Thank you very much for the upload. you’ve done the collate artistically. I like the single shots with different expressions. Thanks Terence & Jimmy – my impromptu photographers!

#89 Johnny: righ attitude! will get you far in SHC. Looking forward to meeting you and Annie again on other occasions.
