  1. Hi Frisna,

Whooh…you are great with game ideas…
I’ll be there to have some fun time with you beautuful people.

    (Saturday 3pm onwards)
    Xie Xie Ni!!

    pearl.

  2. Hi Frisna.. Good idea. I also have some games such as scrabble, rummy ‘O’, Chinese chess,Monopoly, Risk, Hotel. My preferred timing is weekday – sorry Pearl, we have different timing preferences.. because Sat is normally reserved for family. Thanks Frisna for thinking of organinsing such activities. CHEERS

  3. Hi Frisna,

It is great to get involved in games again to relive the good old of days of growing up. Most of the rules governing these games have already slipped from my memory except snake and ladder, the easiest to play. But, game rules can be relearnt over time.

On Saturdays I’m mostly free. Other days, I’m on internet or watching TV programs. All I need now is to swap shift with my wife on walking our dog. Normally she walks it in the morning, and for me in late afternoon or early evening.

If I’m not wrong, most probably the games venue will be either at Hans/Upp. Pickering St. or Hans/Park Mall. The main worry now is that positive responses from other SHC members might be below expectations as additive, clacking mahjong games involving money are not mentioned. Anyway, I don’t play mahjong.

    Terry

  4. Hi Inez,

I would definitely prefer weekdays, But..Frisna only gave us 2 choices – Thursdays or Saturdays … mmm …I had to choose Saturdays cos Thursday nites are my dancing nites and her time – 4pm onwards, timing cannot lah!

  5. Hi Frisna

I was very happy that you have posted and i look forward to enjoying a game of scrabble on Saturday 3pm. Thanks for your organising efforts!

  6. Hi Frisna

Your post caught my eye. I love playing scrabble. Count me in. Sat afternoon is good for me (not all saturdays – at most 2) Thanks for coming out with this great idea!

  7. Hi Frisna

I’m interested. Sat afternoon at 3 pm should be ok for me.

Will join in as and when I can make it.

    Thanking you in advance,
    Gabriella

  8. Frisna, I forgot to mention my game preferences.

I love Scrabble, some card games like Gin Rummy, Bridge (I need a refresher course on that), Black Jack and also Mahjong, but I prefer not to play with money and some board games too.

I could also teach anyone interested, my Irish game of ‘GOLF’, which has nothing to do with the game of golf.

I believe the Irish named it so because this is the alternative to turn to when it rains and a golf game is cancelled, which is pretty often there.

It’s a memory game and some of you have played it before.

I picked a Thurs to play but it can be any weekday really.

    Hope this takes off.

  9. Frisna,

This is interesting, I will surely join you. Can we also include debate, as one of the items?

Robert is having his eastern meeting on 19th April (a thursday; and a very good day).. can we incorporate some of these games, or perhaps a mini debate, during this meeting? Just a thought.. if not feasible, it’s ok.

    Cheers!

  10. Hi Frisna,

Annie and me wish to join your games day. Saturday 3pm is fine unless we need to attend our domestic affair.

Scrabble and Snake/Ladder ok. Other games need to learn.

#13 Hi Dan Huang. Will introduce myself to you when the game day is on. Big Two is an interesting card games. We even play this when going for holiday especially those long flight and land journey.

    :) johnny pow

  11. #13 Sifu Dan Huang, would you mind to teach me Big Two. Please bear with me because I’m not clever over learning card games. If the game rules are too many and complex to understand I might have to take longer time to remember them.

    Thks Dan.

    Terry

  12. This post should be called “Board Games Day” as “games” suggest more of a court or outdoor venue with physical activities like badminton or tennis.

Board games are played indoors with the stress on small groups, unless it’s bingo. Alamak, would we run into problems with the gaming authorities? I am sure they would not want any competition to the casinos here.

Terry Tang: Have you noticed that casinos have the simplest games? Just put a chip onto one of 36 numbers, or roll two dice, or press a few buttons on the slots… It used to be that you have to pull a lever for the slot machine, but now, that effort is also not required. My mother got tennis elbow from playing too much jackpot in the old days.

So, what say you, we go to cruise ship casino together? No need to be clever. Oh, oh, cruise ships not so safe now!

Better join Frisna playing Snakes and Ladders!

  13. Hi Terry,

I shall be please to teach ‘Chor Tai Ti’ or ‘Big Two”. This card game is a combination ot Gin Rummy and Russian Poker. No worries I am a patient man as I also teach Primary school children to play chess. But i must confess these kids can drive you up the walls!

    Dan

  14. Dear All

Thank you for your interest in the game.
    1. I will email each of you individually once the date and venue is confirmed

    2. Seem like most of you prefer saturday even though my intention is to hold it on thursday AND saturday – once a month each

    3. at each gathering, i’ll bring all the board games i’ve for you to choose. we may form 2-3 groups to play different game.

    4. for the venue, i prefer ‘homy/secluded’ type so not to disturb or be disturbed.
if anyone of you would like to offer your home it will be great (we can rotate the homes among us). If not, we can try condo function room, community centre, park etc. feel free to suggest

Due to my work schedule and travelling the week after, i won’t be able to hold it this month.

Mary & Dan: would you like to start the ball rolling by teaching your games? (i don’t have to be the coordinator all the time. once the game is on anyone can initiate a gathering)

#16 Lydia: yes, we can play game on the “Easterner gathering” but you must get the permission from the EO Robert. as for debate, no it won’t be held during game day (but it can work on easterner gathering)

#21 Kenneth: although it’s mainly board/indoor game but we might go outdoor to stretch or do some boxing/duel if the game becomes too hot to handle.
Then later on i might include soccer, sepak takraw, beach volley, basket ball where men are more interested and ladies can chip in. so is it ok if i retain the name GAME DAY? Are you game to join us?

  15. Hi Frisna

Thanks for initiating this. I would like to be included in your emails. I play Scrabble, Rummikub, etc.

My preference is for Sat 4pm and I will participate when I am available.

    Joy

  16. Haha, Frisna

It should be Games Day in the plural as you have more than one game.

I think you have quite a few people already and I shall defer from joining at the moment.

I don’t understand how a board game can become “too hot to handle” and that we need to go outside and slug it out!

    Unless there’s money involved… ban luck… poker…???

  17. Hi Joy & Peng Peng: welcome!

#26 Kenneth: no need $$$$ involved, people can get hot when losing on games (any game! but here am just joking lah)
so, come and join us as you can see we only have 3 guys at the moment (the last 3 names)and the location can be anywhere in spore not just east, west etc

  18. Hi there Frisna

Please include me for a Saturday.

Will play Rummikub, would like to learn Backgammon, Bridge and Reversi. Scrabble as a last resort.

    Thank you!

  19. #21 Ken Tan,

Actually on 9 May, I’ll be on cruise ship to Redang/Trengganu to snorkel. The Superstar Virgo will set up a tent for the ship’s band and singers at Redang. Ship passengers will be ligtered from ship to shore for fun and activities including dancing.

The water there is pristine clear. One can watch mutli-coloured fish swim leisurely by. After the snorkelling, I will dance alone on the beach to the tempo of drumbeats. As usual fellow angmoh lady passengers will join in as my partners basing on my past experiences over there. I had gone to Redang before on the Virgo, and so I know what to expect.

Since I abstain from gambling, my purpose on the Virgo is to relax and enjoy the good food on board. Life is not meant to be dull if one knows how to handle it.

    Cheers,

    Terry

  20. Hi Frisna I dont mind playing rummikub on sat afternoon. Please let me know the place and date. By the way, I have a set of rummikub, if you need me to bring along do let me know. Thanks. Josie
