Sue Tan – Introduction

I registered to be a member of SHC last month and after a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, finally picked up the courage to sign up for two upcoming events.  You see, I have been a stay-home person for the longest time and keeping friends became more and more of something I needed the least.  After all, I have a husband and children to fill my days and I could count on their shoulders and ears whenever I needed to borrow one.  Going out of the house alone is something I hardly do, except when I pick my children from school in the quiet comfort of my car.  My personal space by now extended to the next MRT station. Recently, my youngest son had to independently travel home from school via public transport because we sold off one car, leaving me with one less chore, and only one chore left – cleaning house.  Well, I have become fat and lazy and I don’t like where I seem to be heading – nowhere! Hence, stumbling on SHC’s website at this point in my life seems like a blessing. I want to be a new person, make new friends, try new things, go on new adventures but I’m afraid I have to do this with an old body. So when you meet me at my first SHC outing which is the upcoming picnic, please know I have a yearning to make new friends but old habits that need some forgiving.  Apologies if I don’t make the first move. I may have forgotten how ;p Sincerely,

Sue Tan

  1. Hi Sue

Welcome to SHC. If friends and fun you are looking for, this is a good place to start. We have to start someday, somehow so its good that you have taken a brave step to venture out of your comfortable home to do what you want to do for yourself.

Dont be too shy to speak with other members when you are at any event. Once you start, it will get easier.

    Enjoy!

    Cheers
    Carly

  2. Hello Sue,
Welcome to the Club. It is time to get out and see the world. You need your own quality time with friends. This will widen your horizon, develop new skills and at the same time enhance the relationship with the family. In time of need, your friends will be a great source of support. I will be most happy to be your buddy and hold your hand in the initial part, until you find your way in the Club. Come join me and others in the forthcoming Potluck cum Monthly Gathering on Saturday 19th. See you soon.
    Warm regards, winnie

  5. Hi Sue Tan,

    Welcome abroad our Noah’s Ark.

Just like you, I use to be on my own until the day I join SHC. My life has never been the same. I met good and now v. close friends who has given the courage , encouragement and support to live on and slowly adapting to change my lifestyle as a retiree.

To them I am BLESSED to have such good company. :) and now I am FREE as a bird flying out of the ” cage ” to enjoy my freedom as before and now as a busy and happy person :)

  6. Awwwww Sue! When I read your humble intro I already like you!
I look forward to meeting you at the picnic this Saturday.
No worries – the members here are nice and friendly. It might take a while for them to warm up to you but I think with you, it will be instantaneous! It took me a while as I’m an introvert by nature. Yah, I have always been mistaken to be a party animal type but seriously, I am the diam diam type.
I can spend days at home alone and indulge in reading, doing housework, playing computer games and watching HK drama series.

    Cheers
    Ros

  7. Hi Rosalind / TVB drama fans ,

Ah ha! Now I know that Tai Chea is also a HK TVB drama fanatic like me.

Have you seen the Cantonese drama ” No Regrets ” best drama of the year 2010 ?

Very Kan Cheong love and suspense story . Kept you glue to your seat 1 drama after the next……

  8. Hi Sue Tan,

I too was like you apprehensive to join SHC in the beginning and pick up my courage to register as a member and join in the 1st. event Pot Lucky party at ECP.

I was so surprised to find them so friendly and warm. The next 2 or 3 events that I attended we were being treated like brothers and sisters like our own family. That is something i never expected at all.

So come and join our Punggol cycling this Sat and meet our regular cyclist kakis.
