Dave Lee – Introduction

Hi Everybody,

Just joined the club.

I am 61, still working, married with 2 grown sons and a wonderful wife. May retire soon though as work is now very stressful.

My interests are:

Leisure cycling on park connectors on most weekends (had covered most). Own a folding bicycly (Birdy) that can handle slopes so save my leg muscle. Usually about 25 to 30 Km each time with rest stops in between. Speed from 18 to 20 KMPH. I always cycle from East Coast to Garden By The Bay (not on the road) on Saturdays morning.

Ocassional local hiking and walking (with the wife) at the parks.

Jogging (5KM) only once a week only to save my knees.

Swimming once a week.

Fingerstyle guitar playing. Have tons of tabs.

I was a Toys collector. Now very low profile.

If you share some of the above, you can always write to me at meerobus@yahoo.com.sg.

  1. Hi Dave

From your hobbies, SHC has all you want, and you have all SHC want, a perfect match. Sure you cannot low profile in SHC. Welcome.

Terence want to organize a guitar playing group in SHC, I think he need you to share what you know for us. Expecting.

  2. Long time I have not played guitar with anyone. Younger days it was termed as jamming. My old buddies all given up music.
I noted that there is oredi a group of causal cyclists frequenting Punggol PCN. But Im only free on weekends.
I am eagerly waiting for the completion of the pededtrian bridge connecting Clementi PCN to West Coast.
Anyone keen to cycle soemwhere else, write to me. Dun worry about safety as I never cycle on the roads.

  3. Hi Dave,

Welcome to SHC. You will have lots of interesting activities here.

For a start tou can join us at Kranji Mrt this Sat for our walk. You do not hae to prepare much as we are never far from a kopishop in Singapore.

Also noted your comments that you like cycling but can only do so on weekends. Please watch the cycling space for more news. Keep us informed about the cycling routes in Clementi and the West Coast. Perhaps you can even lead a route in that area. All we need to know is parking, preferable free, for thiose with foldies, a good and famous and economical place (aka cheap and good, our Singapore motto) to have dinner and chill out and a bike rental shop nereby for those who prefer to rent bikes.

Don’t worry if we get lost, that happens to us too, as we are recreational cyclists, out for some workout, some food and a new route.

    Cheers

  4. Hi Dave,

Before joining SHC i used to cycle around the Western PCN alone. Now once a month i join the cycling group in the east. Riding leisurely along Punggol Waterway area is
very pleasant and more enjoyable then being alone. I’m yet to try the route from East Coast to Garden by the Bay. Please post on this blog if you want riding in group of your choice PCN. You can also contact me at powjohnny@yahoo.com whenever you need additional information.

    Stay Healthy! Be Happy! :)

  5. Hi Mr Pow,
Thanks, I have intention to join the cycling group later definitely. I know its fun. Was member of a “slow” local cycling group also. Been to lots of places. Only issue is I do not want to cycle on the roads anymore. So now I confine to PCNs only.

  6. Dave,
Welcome to the seniors club. You can join the cycling group. Most of the time we cycled in parks and along PCNs, walk ways regularly and ocassionally when the traffic is light on the road. Safety is our number one priority, so do not worry. Always put on a helmet. I have just returned home after doing the Railway Corridor walk . Yes, there are conducted walks every month. Come and meet your fellow members. I assure you it is worth your time.

  7. Hi Dave,

Have legs and stamina will travel: with SHCian buddies on walks and cycling trips in and around Singapore. It is ultra easy to strike up friendships with SHCians. All that is needed is flashing a wide beaming smile while showing your set of ivory white teeth and your enthusiasm to chat up with everyone you bump into. I did exactly that to make new friends inside a SHC walk years ago although may I confess I have never had a star-power set of ivory white teeth. Nonetheless I was overly enthusiastic to chat up the gals and the guys along the walk route. This did the trick on cementing new-found friendships.

    Blessings,

  8. Hi Dave,

Welcome to SHC. I live in the east and I would like to join you and your “slow” group if ever you are organising rides on Saturdays. Do drop me an email at syewtiong@hotmail.com

As I’ve read your post earlier, I had tried to cycle to the Garden by the Bay late this afternoon but had to abort when I found that I would have to cycle on the road. Hence, would like to hear from you.

    Regards!

    yew tiong

  9. Hi Dave,

Thanks for your email response. It’s much appreciated.

Personally, I think you should have posted your reply here as it would have greatly benefited the cycling community of the exciting cycling route that you had described. And thus would like to join you in your event that you have in mind this Saturday, cycling from EC Park to Garden By the Bay.

As the cycling SHC community is growing, perhaps, you may want to coordinate with the other Punggol Group so that we can have alternate cycling activities within a month for enthusiasts – it’s just a suggestion.

Yes, would certainly like to join you this Saturday for your EC Park ride. Please let me (us) have the details.

    Thank you.

    yew tiong
