Games Day on Thursdays

Hi all.. we invite anyone and everyone from all over the island to join the us at Bukit Gombak stadium on Thursdays (for other activities besides badminton.) After alighting from the Bukit Gombak MRT station, is the indoor stadium where the regular group plays badminton. However, table tennis is also available and it is FREE (bring your own bats and balls). A short distance away, we can go for a walk at the Guilin Park. If anyone wants to cycle, i have a foldable bicycle which you can borrow. For lunch, there are neighborhood coffee shops, or we can adjourn to HomeTeam club, which has a Chinese restaurant. To venture further, we can drive to IMM for free parking. We can continue the afternoon’s fellowship with bowling or card games or mahjong or whatever..                                                                                                            Come and join us on Games Day …Cheers  emoticon

  2. Hi Li Li and Terry
Since the two of you are interested walking at the Guilin park, can you arrange between yourselves (any more interested walkers ??) the time and place to meet for the walk? This post is meant as a platform for all interested parties to find their niche group (be it walking, badminton or table tennis) and proceed to the activities of their choice. We can gather at 12.30pm – meet outside the booking office – and proceed for lunch nearby. Afternoon activities can be discussed over lunch.
The badminton courts booked are : court 6 from 10.00am to 12.00 and court 2 from 11.00 to 12.00. The toilets have bathing facilities but no hot water.
Thanks to Mike for the photographs. :)

  3. Good Afternoon Inez/Yoonchin/feztus,

Tks for the compliments. Just doing my part to capture on record one of our SHC badminton sessions together. To all SHC members, if u want a good “sweat out”, come and join us every Thursday 10am -12 noon @ Bukit Gombak Sports Hall.

  4. Hi Inez and all,

I’ll love a game of table-tennis. Are there those who can turn up at 9am for a game? I had to drop out of the badminton group because of my other commitment. However, I can squueeze in an hour or so for a game or two. I’ll have to leave my 10.30am at the latest.
Hope I can get my limbs going again.

  5. This so called Badminton group is more than just that. The group is made up of a good assortment of members, coming with different skills sets ( as well as different shapes and sizes :-)). It is enlightening to see that this group does not function with a formal EO per se. We have Yoon Chin, Ron,Peter and Inez so willingly book the court. Yoon Chin diligently reminding all the kakis to come. We have Johnny who organizes after lunch mahjong, and Ron Teo booking the CDAN bowling. The rest, without prompting, will occasionally bring a tube of shuttlecocks to contribute to the game.

We should continue to encourage such informal initiatives, be it adding table tennis, or slow walk or even be at the coffee shop to drink coffe and chit chat.

Hopefully the members will reach the stage where they could easily “chio” the others to go shopping, eat together or just go to JB to shop & eat. If this is realized, then we would have a vibrant SHC without having to wait for some EO to initiate a program, (or Terence to continue dish out fresh ideas!) SHC belongs to all members and lets each do a small part.

  6. Hi Amy,

Is a long time not playing badminton with you. Remember John? He was in the national table tennis league during school days. If not for his MIA i believe he maybe able to join you at your hour. Presently we also have one lady who love to play table tennis. Not sure she able to come at this hour. How about coming at 10am to play badminton again. After getting to know he or she they may join you in the early table tennis game. Looking forward to playing badminton with you again.

#1 Li Li & #2 terry if both of you have have not been to Little Guilin i can lead you there after badminton. It will be even better if all badminton kakhis join in for say half hour to see the scenery and take photos before going for lunch. We can also treasure hunt for condoms. :)

    Stay Healthy! Be Happy! :)

  7. #1 Tan Li Li,

Since there are only two of us in the walk, not a good number
for fellowshipping, I am pulling out from it. A good number in my opinion should be around five or above. So sorry, Li Li. It just can’t be helped as those hoping to turn up are held back by a full day’s work and, most probably, tired by it.

    Blessings,
    Terry

  8. Hi Johnny, please try to contact the lady-friend to come and play table tennis. I’ll be there around 9.15am to start with table tennis, followed by badminton.
As for the Guilin view, thanks for volunteering to be tour guide.. :)

I think the discussion on bathing will be further explored – and those who has “lobang” for possible locations (P.S.Feztus#5 – outside Singapore also can – but not during cold winter please); participants; date and time etc would be trashed out..

To all others: You wouldn’t want to miss it??

  9. Hi all. Thursday came and gone..
We played table tennis at about 9.30 (the bats and net was provided by the booking office.)
Badminton started at 10.00 to 12.00 and the regulars as well as irregulars came (you know who you are, huh)
Lunch as usual after the games at the nearby coffee shop and the dispersion to other activities after lunch.
(Thanks to all who came :) )
(Please try harder – to those who couldn’t make it – :( )
Next week, same time and place.
    See you.

  10. Hi All Games’ Kakis,

Just want to say thank you to Inez, Johnny and Dan besides others I had met for the 1st time last thursday at Gombak Sports centre.I do not play sporty games which are too strenous for my body. I can see that those who played a game or two of badminton or table tennis enjoyed, and had a sweatty good time.

!2 noon, lunch time beckoned and the players formed 2 groups for lunch. 1 joined Johnny and Dan’s group to Bollywood Veggies while the others went to the nearby shops for their lunch.

8 SHCians, Dan the driver of his car and Bira, the driver her car, with 6 of us as their passengers-( see if I can remember all the names) Frisna,Jennifer, Annie,John and Johnny Pow and myself drove through kampong track roads in search of Bollywood Veggies.(Don’t let the word Veggies confuse you, it does not cultivate veggies for sale.)

Bollywood Veggies is a lovely place for lunch if you’d like a Green environmentt. Plants and trees surround the dining room. It is indeed a R&R place. We also had a choice , to eat in air-con comfort or to eat in a non-aircon dining area.
Foodwise, there is a set menu for 6 people or the usual ala carte menu.BV also serves kuey2 for dessert. Costs about $15/- per person.

Met the Owners, Mr Lim and his wife Ivy Singh Lim. The latter strongly advised us to use Active Living and not Active Aging whenever we speak of Seniors’ Life-style/Activities. I share her opinion on this.Active Living is Vibrant.

We also visited an Organic farm and The Villa Resort in Lim Chu Kang but couldn’t recce it because just then the rain poured mercilessly.

After the Resort, we found our way to an Indian Restaurant for dinner. The “eat all you can for a donation.” Food was OK but the way the donation was collected seemed strange. A lady was assigned to collect our so called donation and she wanted to know from me how many people was I paying for with my donation.

Then we adjourned to Chinatown’s Dessert Cafe for our so called night cap before we said goodbye.

We wouldn’t have enjoyed the afternoon w/o Dan and Bira’s
    help. Thank you again.

    Geok Suan.

  11. Hi Geok Suan.. Glad you enjoyed the day. Many apologies that i didn’t meet you personally that day. The confusion of the 2 activities – one at Bollywood and another makan treat given by a regular badminton kaki – (politically sensitive to mention name, huh?? :)) – made it difficult to greet non-regulars that day. (I think the turnout on the 8th Nov was bigger than usual). Try to join us again if you can. Get to know the others too and don’t be too worried about the skills to play a game. We accept anyone who comes to sweat it out. Even rackets are not necessary – just appropriate shoes and you’re ON.. Cheers
    inez
P.S. Johnny/Dan/Bira can organise the visits again another day for those of us who missed it?
