We can go for a coastal driving trip Sat 9 – Mon 12 Nov 2012

The  rain disappear every end Oct in Central Thailand.  This explains why I haven’t organise any coastal driving trip in Sept and Oct. I am in Bangkok 8 – 13 Nov 2012.  And Deepavali falls on tues 13 Nov.

If you happen to come to Bangkok for a holiday, and wish to go explore coastal Chonburi, let me know.  We will take the same route as the other earlier groups.  We dont have to do the same routing, we can go to other places, way outside Bangkok during the same period.  Staying in Bangkok is also fine.  Can take you around places you have not seen.

Do let me know before Nov 6; as after this date, I would likely change plans.  Feel free to ask any questions.

  2. Hi Terrence,

Need to seek some advice from you. My daughter is visiting Bangkok this weekend and she wishes to visit a floating market. Can you recommend which one to go and how can she get there?

    Thanks.

  3. Hi Dorit,

If you mean this weekend, got only tomorrow. Best to go on a morning, Sunday is best.

Go to River City Shopping complex via taxi. It’s the end of Silom road, and right right. At Rivercity, there is a pier. There are boats you can take. Usually 150-200 baht per person. A whole boat will cost about 1000 baht. Journey to the floating market is about 25-30 mins via long tail boat.

Alone, it is expensive. A group of 4 is good. This is the nearest and still working floating market. Others in Bangkok are man-made. Let me know if more info needed.

  4. Hi Dorit,

The market opens everyday; but it’s best on a weekend.

Driving there is the best option; you can take time to enjoy the food, the fruits and the canals shopping.

All tour companies do organise day trips there.

  5. Alamak! I only read the comments on the floating market after my trip to Bangkok last week!

I went to Damnoen Saduak by taxi, leaving my Bangkok hotel at 8am. I opted for the riverboat tour (B350) which took me along the canals, first to a coconut sugar factory, then along the many shops lining the way, before getting to the main market where boats hawked all kinds of food and produce. This market is only on weekends and is rather touristy. The taxi driver had kindly stopped the meter on reaching the market and only resumed charging for the return journey. Cost for the taxi was around B1,000.

What I wanted to say is that I don’t think that Damnoen Saduak is the floating market you can reach by boat from River City. That market could be Taling Chan which is also opened only on weekends (Sat & Sun 9am to 4pm).

What I really would like to see is the Samut Songkhram railway market where the stalls on the tracks are quickly pulled back each time the train passes. And you could also visit the Amphawa floating market nearby.

Well, let’s wait for the next time!
