    Boss #2,
Please do note that ALL riders (including non-members) meet ONE very important citeria of SHC; that is: they are all having a minimum age of 45 years old!!!
And to add oil to the fire, these non-members are ALL potential new members for SHC aka potential NEW BLOOD to carry on the many torches of SHC IF they rise up to the challenges!!!
So, for pete’s sake, don’t scare them away!!! LOL XP!!!

  6. Boss #8,
    Noted.
Hence, for non-members, I only put in their initials and not their names.
This is for me to remember who they are! Memory-Cells failing me….
If Steven Lim is NOT a SHC member, please edit his name into his initials SL. Thanks!!

That’s the max numbers that I can handle alone….

You have misused the phrase, “to add oil to the fire” meaning “creating additional difficulty to what is already a difficult situation.” This was inappropriate. A better phrasing should have been: “To lend credibility” to our registration of cycling participants qualified by SHC age requirement.”

Normally I don’t like to comment on how others wrote just as I don’t like others to comment on what I wrote. Ivan, you commented about me in the forum on our recent SHC walk. Please in future refrain from uninvited comments to what I write in the future unless your ideas are constructive. We can keep the peace between us and remain as good SHC buddies. Thank you very much Ivan for your anticipated kind assistance, Ivan.

    Charles Wee:

Charles, please in future also refrain from unprovoked unpleasant comments about me as you did after our last SHC walk as I had not offended you upfront. You certainly had no reason to do that. I didn’t mention any bad about you in front of you or behind your back to arouse your hostility. If you feel like saying something nasty about me, please put a big pau/bun into your big mouth to munch away to kill the excessive spare time you have no idea of spending profitably.

Unprovoked nasty comments, more often than not, attract counter nasty comments. This is not good for maintaining excellent friendly relations between individuals under our SHC banner. Please be reminded accordingly. Thank you, Charles.

    Best Rgds

  9. I think people who dislike comments from others should refrain from writing. Or go hide in a shell.

I dislike reading lengthy remarks cos I go to sleep mode after a few lines so when I see lengthy remarks, I skip the whole thing. I like to the point kind of inputs. Any other irrelevant remarks will be trashed!

    Carly

  10. Just like when I take the bus and accidentally brush against someone and that someone goes “chk chk” and show me the sh.. look, I tell her go take a taxi or better still drive your own car. Wake up woman, this is public transport so you have to bear with the brushing and sometimes shovelling and pushing.

    Carly

  11. Hi All,

I would like every member in SHC to know that I am by nature calm, friendly, jovial, unquarrelsome and armed with a reasonably good storehouse of general knowledge.

I had gone through many SHC walks in the past and so far have not caused any unintended irritations to my fellow walkers due largely to my calm and discerning disposition on refraining from probing into others’ private lives. I am never a “nosy parker” – parking my nose on sensitive topics irritating my companions and SHC EOs as a result.

In any SHC-led walk, we normally talk with our companions about things positive in general happening in Singapore and beyond her shores around the globe. We sidestep political topics which can be contentious, shredding otherwise stable friendships.

If my character has been unfriendly and unwholesome which leaves much to be desired, SHC EOs would be amongst the first to hear about it. I could be barred from future walk activities and other SHC events over an indefinite period.
To add salt to open wounds, I could even be politely asked to leave SHC. It is my nature that I don’t speak and write Singlish. Neither do I speak or indulge in obscenities. Thanks.

    Blessings.

    Thank you.

    Blessings.

    Hi All,

I ever embarked on the same journey when I was a 50-year old employee of a petroleum corp. Back then, the cost was 40% subsidized with meals & one overnight hotel stay per participant by my company’s recreation club.

True, the journey was long and sweatingly exhaustive under the hot sun, nevertheless, we enjoyed every minute of it. Those riding in front should warn those riding behind of speeding on-coming traffic, particularly so, of heavily laden cargo Malaysian trucks driven by their hell-drivers. Several energetic and sporty lady colleagues, with a keen sense of humour, also took part which made the trip all the more interesting with fun and laughter shared with their clownish male colleagues.

In the evening after dinner, we helped ourselves with juicy durians for supper to top up our energy reserves for the return trip home the following morning. The camaraderie amongst us exceeded our expectations with everybody chipping in as lookouts for one another for impending danger, if any.

Now 18 years since then, I am convinced that presently I don’t have the same alertness and energy level to embark on such a journey. The threat of an heart attack is very real for somebody my age without weeks of pre-trip cycling training.

Anyway, may I wish the SHCian cyclists all the very best
on their up-and-coming cycling trip. Wishing you all an ultra safe journey back home to be in the loving arms of your spouses with whom kisses flow like vintage wine: the more you have, the more you are in need. All good stories must have happy endings.

    Best of luck.

    Cheers

    #13 Ivan,

OK set. I’m elderly, but I am no coward. It should be more
rational and productive to arrange the cycling trip away from the rainy season, say, to take place in the middle of next year. In a heavy thunderstorm, visibility is quite low and other vehicles might just skid and bump into us cyclists through no fault of their drivers due largely to slippery wet road conditions. Another dreadful senario is catching sun burnt during the course of the journey.

Come on Ivan, I am not in the habit of cooking up cock and bull stories to impress others. I still have two bicycles at home locked up along my verandah.

Ivan, what contigency plan do you have up your sleeve if it so happens that one of our bicyles sustains a tyre puncture?
There are indeed imponderables and contigencies to be evaluated before embarking on such a long trip. A rider’s tyre puncture is equal to the intensity of puncturing his enthusiasm for the remainder of his cycling trip.

We embark on a long cycling trip to Sg. Ringgit on the assumption that everything runs smoothly like clockwork, ignoring the “What ifs?”. Are we ostriches burying our
    heads in the sand?

    Hi Terry #16,

I read through your comment a few times, and can sense you were trying to give advice and warning on the cycling trip to Pengerang.

At the same time, knowing Douglas and Ivan, I can also tell they are very meticulous and careful organisers, especially from what they have done with other earlier cycling activities. I support the efforts of all Event organisers and Event coordinators, and for their initiatives in wanting to bring SilverHairs together, I would give them all the encouragement to make this activity a success.

As EOs and ECs, they have the full right to decide on the dates of their activities and the manner the event is run. As non-organisers, let’s feel free to offer them advice. But, the key is to give them our encouragement, support and kind words.

    #13 Ivan,

Looking at the very small number of cycling participants that you have, I think you were trying to trick me into joining your cycling trip to increase your group size.

That said, I am withdrawing my offer of participation. After all, there is nothing much interesting to enjoy in this sleepy, small town named Sungei Ringgit.

A potato should not be boiled twice. Having already stayed overnight there once more than a decade ago should have fully satisfied my curiosity over the place. It is no longer value for money. Sorry Ivan.

    #17 Terence Seah,

Thank you Terence. I fully agree with your take over the competence of your EOs and ECs whose primary duties are to oversee the course of an event from start to finish.

May I take this opportunity to wish the SHC cycling group an enjoyable trip to Sg. Ringgit and a smooth return trip back home.

I do admit that sometimes my comments can be prickly to some, but nonetheless no malice was ever intended. After all, we are in SHC fellowshipping with one another to strengthen bonds as we march hand in hand well into the a promising future as SHCians, proud of our common identity and destiny as clubbers.

p/s: Because my tails had been stepped once…no more second time without taking a stand!!!

    Terence,
If not appropriate, you are of course allowed to delete these…..you are THE BOSS.

  13. #12 Carly,

    Hi Carly,

Of course you are entitled to your opinion, specific only to yourself. Nobody has ever insisted you have to read this or read that. You are at liberty to say or do what you like as this is a free society.

    tt

  14. Hi Terry

Yes, of course I know my rights. And thats precisely what I have been doing. We speak Singlish for the fun and heck of it. We cannot be so uptight at our age lest we get a heart attack.

I live one day at a time cos tomorrow may never come. So hang loose and life will be funner! No, it should be more fun :)

    Carly

  15. Hi Carly,

I really appreciate your exceptional soothing singing quality voice in karaoke. I heard you sing at least on three karaoke events if I remember such correctly.

Although sometimes we may be divided in perceptions over certain topics, let us treat them as read herring. Yet, we at least find common ground in karaoke. Thanks.

    Blessings,

  16. Ivan,

Thank you for gathering the cycling enthusiasts for yet another round of enjoyable ride. I wish I could join you folks, but this cycling route will be cycling on the road at one point or another. A bit scare lah……….

This morning on my way home from airport, I passed by East Coast Park and kind of missed this place and the fond memories. It’s been a long time we didn’t cycle at the East Coast Park since the closure of the usual meeting place (MacDonald) and the regular Bike rental kiosk.

Just a suggestion, why not for a change, we can consider going back to East Coast PCN. I take a stroll to check it out at this Bicycle Kiosk near Burger King for those who need to rent a Bike. The cost of the rental for weekend & PH is $8 for 1 hr, $12 for 2 hrs and $14 for 3 hrs. A bit expensive, but that’s the current rate, gone are the days when we used to pay $5 for 2 hrs with a bottle of mineral water FREE.

Btw where is Douglas? Remember hor…….Please keep the cycling event alive! :)

    Ah Nee

  17. Hi Ah Nee

I heard you, the cycling event is still alive.
We had 2 cycling event last month via the Eastern Park Connector.
covering a distance of 90-100 km. We have shifted our preferred routes to Punggol.
Do come and join in the rides as it’s nearer to your
    place.

  18. Terry Tang#11
Wow English language…..I recalled in our student days especially in literature class was to interpret what the Authors like William Shakespeare was saying? Well many came up with different interpretations viewing from different perspectives. Same with art – there is again different interpretation from different perspective.
Reading the entire statement, perhaps in this context the Author used the phrase ‘adding oil to the fire’ relates very much to the torch. Relatively positive the carrying of a well oiled, well lit torch enhances the brighter name of SHC – could it be this interpretation? I crave for your indulgence in understanding to review the entire statement.
For the record, this is merely a suggestion to look at different perspectives AND NOT a comment. Thank you for your understanding

  19. I have a better idea. Lets add oil into the wok instead, deep fry a red herring (find one that isn’t too thick-skinned) and have a sumptuous reunion dinner. I will buy the beer. CHEERS !

  20. Hi All

Can we please start the new year without these ‘bickerings’??

Grievances, whatever, have been aired and views are given, so let’s stop this before the HOT OIL SPILLS OVER!!

This thread is about cycling so let’s stick to it.

  21. Hi Ivan Lim,

Sorry for last minute register , I will NOT cycle but join you guys and gals at the Mushroom Cafe @ Sengkang for lunch. Yummy ! :)

  22. Riders,
Please note that the ride will be cancelled if the rain does not stop by 7:30am.
If you are already making your way to the start point, sorry about this decision.
No choice, safety first, due grounds are wet! We can always ride another day!

Douglas, Malcolm, Ah Née & GT,
Read all your comments, as they are important to me.
I still can’t be bother to read what it had writing.
So, I don’t have a clue about the contents at all.
Inspite of this, I agree with GT that the bickering should stop here.
Note: It is NOT welcome to comment in any of MY threads.
Admin: Pls remove all it’s posting from MY threads. Pls also remove my Cut&Pasted posting in this thread. TQ!

  23. Morning StevenC,
The ride had been cancelled due to the rain for safety reasons.
Intention was to have Roti Prata at Blk 417 or Blk 418 Yishun Ave 11.
But, looks like we have to crave for roti prata another day.

  24. Hi All

Cone on, let’s our legs do the talking. Like GT hd said, “This thread is about cycling so let’s stick to it.” Please do come n join if u are keen n enthusiatic. We love people who are all kind but not those who are one kind.

Ah Nee, moving away from ECP allows cycling at different venues for more refreshing enjoyment. Accidents involving cyclists had occured every now n then at ECP due to congestion went unreported. U just need some times to build up your courage riding on the road where the PCN disconnects. It’s not that scary after all. There are still many bike kioks at ECP offering wider ranges of bikes. Maybe we have the monthly cycling on P Ubin in one of the months.

Last but not least, thank you very much to Douglas, Lily n Ivan who continue the monthly cycling.

  25. Hi Registered Riders for this event,
Just got *bing* by two riders, requesting why not change the ride to later, at about 4pm, same start point, same route?
Wow Lao! These two riders even more hard-core! Can’t disclose their names hor….better they join our 128km ride too.
On 2nd Thots, why not ya? Any other riders still keen and can make it at 4pm or not….provided rains stoppeeeddd and grounds dried hor!
I am game for it if hands are raised for ride to be rescheduled to 4pm.
    Wow piah erh!!

  26. Sorry Riders,
Looks like we, humans, can only plan for the rides…
But the heavens and the ggooddss still decides…
Well, the ride is OFF…still raining!
    We ride another day ler!!

  27. This is for info to all SHCians who are interested in taking up cycling as a leisure activity.
