Pot Luck this Sat Jan 13 – if it rains

For all participants to the Pot Luck this Saturday, please bring enough food for 5 – 6 people, as we anticipate a lot of food. For water, we will be getting from the nearby 7 Eleven.

At this moment, I am not sure what to do if it rains.  I got down from the plane last night, and wow, it was raining, and it is still raining this Friday morning.

The organisers of the walk, cycling and potluck groups have prepared for this Saturday.  And, we would hope not to cancel it.

So, come in your swimming gear, or in shorts, no lip sticks or perfume, no nice handbags. Be prepared for the rain, and if it rains, enjoy it and feel young as you were when you were 8 years old playing in the rain.

The seas are likely strong, and the winds blowing strongly at the coconut trees.  If you like, bring a kite, I saw some adults playing and they enjoyed it.

The organisers look forward to seeing you all.  And, if it rains, and the situation gets disorganised, please bear with us.  So come along, and meet fellow SilverHairs.  We are sure you will enjoy the late afternoon and evening, even if it rains.

  1. The latest I read was “Donrain Concedes” so rain it’ll and sorry, Yew Kwong, you lose yr bet.

That being the case,I wont ask that my roast duck be cut up. With so many puddles & tiny swimming pools forming everywhere, chances of it being resurrected are real. Surely, it must be a bigger joy to see something coming back to life even if it means no roast duck to eat?

Hey, Terence, you asked us to come in swimming gear but in the same breath warned of strong seas and winds, and (falling) coconuts. Want to die also not like that what !

Rain or shine, I’ll be there; dead or alive, my duck too will be there……it in swimming gear in deference to Terence’s wish.

  2. Sorry, Terence! You speak in puzzles! Don’t understand… if it rains… it surely will! And the cyclists and the walkists are going to do it in the rain. But what about us eatists? Is there shelter or do we sit around in our swimming gear and make the best of it, tearing away at the roast duck?

I think we’d better plan to go to a sheltered area enough to accomodate the whole group. Is there one near the Marine Parade bicycle rental?

  3. Reposting it here, just in case fellow potluckers miss it from the other thread.

For those who are taking public transport, 401 from Bedok Interchange brings you to just outside MacDonald’s. You may take the MRT to Bedok Station then walk to the interchange. The berth for 401 is on the left side of the SBS office. I have copied the bus schedule from the interchange. Hope it helps.

    Bus service no. : 401 Bus stop : BEDOK INT * Scheduled timings are subject to traffic conditions. Please be at the bus stop 5 minutes earlier. Saturday Timetable : 02:00pm 02:21pm 02:42pm 03:03pm 03:24pm 03:45pm 04:06pm 04:27pm 04:48pm 05:14pm 05:41pm 06:07pm 06:34pm 07:00pm

Other services are also available but I think you have to get off somewhere Marine Parade and walk over. Service 401 is more convenient especially if you are carrying your loadful of food.

The following schedule is for return trip from East Coast Park. Bus service no. : 401 Road : EAST COAST PARK SVC RD Bus stop : REGENT BOWL * Scheduled timings are subject to traffic conditions. Please be at the bus stop 5 minutes earlier. Saturday Timetable : 04:48pm 05:09pm 05:36pm 06:03pm 06:29pm 06:56pm 07:22pm 07:48pm 08:09pm 08:30pm 08:52pm

  4. At this moment, there are no plans to cancel the event. Sure, we need to look for contingencies. There are no shelters big enough at the moment, and definitely not near the bicycle rental shed.

We shall go ahead, rain or otherwise. Meantime, any suggestions would be welcome.

  5. I will be at Parkway Parade ard 2pm onwards as I need to lead one of the member to the location. If any of you need direction assistance, please meet here. We will leave for East Coast Park at 2.30pm. Its about a 20 min walk.

Rain or shine, I will definitely be there 4 U.

  6. Thanks, Cheng, for the info.

Hahaha, Terence wasnt speaking in puzzles but if he did sound a little befuddled it’s bcos he is worried, a worry no smaller than those asked to pay $12m in damages.

If we read his latest postings carefully, we can see that he has been urging us to come in swimming gear, not that at our age we hv anythg he never saw. Rather, that makes the best attire to get wet and light in making a dash to the nearest coconut tree.

So looks like it’s gonna be an event for the brave (or mad?). If it helps to soothe frayed nerves by tearing my duck, ducky, sorie, no resurrection for you.

  7. Please, don’t be such sissies. How often do we get to play in the rain at our age? If you really don’t want to get drenched, come in rain coat. There are disposable ones available at FairPrice supermarket for $2/- each. As long as the food gets covered, which can be done simply with a plastic sheet. (I’ll bring one.)

  8. We will make sure there is cover for the food. Let’s enjoy the day.

I am definitely coming with my swimming trunk and T-shirt. Afraid to show my big stomach.

    Terence

  9. Rain or no rain, the event must go on. If there is heavy rain, it will not last , more likely drizzle from time to time. I think a foldable umbrella should provide adequate comfort to get to nearest shelter.
If afraid your shoes get wet, bring along a rubber or plastic slipper. Wear shorts.
    good luck

  10. For those fishing enthusiasts and swimmers, the Singapore Tide is as follows :

    Date Time Metres

    13/01 0515 2.4 High

    13/01 1216 1.2 Low

    13/01 1833 2.0 High

    13/01 2333 1.7 Low

Hope to see all of you there this saturday.

  11. Patrick, thanks for your tide timings. So we can now be least worried about “high tide” because there are many “conveniences” around not only just “7 Eleven”. :)
