  1. From the 16 May 2007 event, there was a balance of $243.90. As such, a voucher of $2 will given on this event to registered SHC participants.

    Terence Seah

  2. Alamak Gingko, since when have you changed your name…. ha..ha.. Terence, you must be typing very fast….. hungry to go for dinner ?? LOL.

  3. Hee, hee, very funny. Not to worry Terence, I will just add it to my little black book. Gongko, Gingko, Gracie, Crazy, Greasy…

Susan has got eyes of a hawk… very good at “finding faults”, hee, hee.

  4. Sign me up.

Why don’t we warm up with forum contributions on possible projects. Makes talking about it later more interesting.

I can talk about Moonmask. Its an idea first mooted in the exercise thread “Fit to Die?”. The issues are aorund how to commercialize an outrageous invention.

Another area of help could be on sourcing for financing. Many SHC seems to need help to mount a business plan and proposal for their ideas. One must overcome this first step in running a business to move forward. Even if you intend to run the busienss alone, it is still good that you put your thoughts and numbers on paper. It is a reality check which will save you pain and money in the long term.

  5. KT, paper & pen, business plan, sourcing the financing man, moonmask, mooncakes………wow, you come the real one huh ? (ni lai zeng de huh?)

I see it more as another session for folks to meet, share and ventilate rather than to articulate bold plans…………….bo bien but this is what makes SHC so interesting & such a big charm.

If it’s on a wkend, I sure go one.

  6. Tim,

Of course-lah. You must be there.

As if you don’t know about the main feature that you are presenting. The new exterprise – Park and Ride to work. For every thirty days rental (bicycles included) you get one carwash free.

Just waiting for our beloved leader to finish his car park tour. Then we’ll block book with volume discount. Weekdays P&R; weekends car-booty sale, bicycle school, and bicycle tours for tourist market.

“Bo Q” – No idea; no hear anything?! I thought the idea was from you, the new Chairman & CEO of P&R.

Our lives are limited only by our imagination.

    Hee-hee

  7. Hahaha, KT, who stressed you? Do pls tell tim ah liu & he’ll turn the damned soul’s ancestral altar upside down for you.

Hopefully, with my punishing his full complement of creators sparing none, you’ll recover fast and let me know exactly what you want to tell in yr #16 mutterings….booty sales lah, car wash lah, P&R lah, beloved leader lah…….

Till then, hehe, dont skip yr medication hor.

  8. Hi Terence

Count me in for the coming meeting.

I look forward to hearing from KT Wong and Tim Liu… one on Moonmask and the other on Moonwalk.

    Kenneth

  9. Tim

    I thought that you knew.

In the new masterplan, the only really efficient mode is public transport in the IR. Cars are discouraged. And even if you park, it will be expensive and you are likely to be far from destination.

So unless you are an endurance speed walker, the other way to zip around is with bicycles. So park and ride (bicycles) could be big business.
And since bicycle parking is also limited, it is more like ride and drop-off to drop-off points. When you are ready pick up another bicycle and go to next destination.

I estimate that even if you charge $200 per month per head for Park & Ride, you will have more demand than you can handle.

You can be the new Avis or Hertz of bicycles.

Turn your hobby to a business opportunity.

  11. Kenneth, 1707 is a Tuesday. It’ll be a serious dereliction of duty if I were to join rev moon at the manger to preach that mooncakes add libido to you & KT instead of fetching my kid fr school.

So will ply my trade another time.

KT, yr idea excites and shows that you keep a wizard up in there(ooops, an insinuation to say that you keep a man. No, it has to be a witch…cos you’re straight….wrong?).

In fact the tampenis people are already practising yr biz plan in a pilot project launched recently. So with good track record literally, they’ll win hands down any tender called by the IR.

Maybe, tweak yr idea a little? Go into the bicycle support biz by supplying umbrellas to the cyclists but pls dont ask them to hold the umbrellas themselves. Provide a total biz concept. Provide comfort. Carry the umbrella yrself, shield them as you run with them.

I am happy to pick up only the crumbs by insuring you and yr magnificient guys vs death & permanent diability arising from exhaustion and going mad.

  12. Tim,

Tender is tender. You can tamper with anything. But the guy with the biggest deal wins.

What about the franchise of Tour de France for Asia. I spent half a day negotiating this deal. Give F1 a ride for their money. Tour got kinda stuck south thailand for security reasons. Otherwise seems to be a smooth ride all round.

    Any interest to be host?

  13. KT, I saw you as some sort of an old salt until you believe that “Tender is tender….the guy with the biggest deal wins”.

To succeed in a tender, you need to pander to someone and if you still demur, try it out in what you see as tamper-proof tender. If you win, trust, I’ll swim to India carrying all the bikes you hv on my back. Conversely, you do the swimming, carrying only me & Patrick.

“What about the franchise…………..” Hahaha, KT KT why do you always confuse me with soliloguays taken from somewhere else closer to the zoo where you made that talk.

    Give me some clue lah.

  14. Tim,

Old salt, no. Fresh & sugar sweet, yes.

Thought it was very clear on franchise. Simple question. Would you like to host the race? Like F1’s Ah Beng.

Good idea. I’ll race you. You swim with bicycles on back. I ride bicycles on deck of cruise ship between buffett meals. All the way to India.

    Yo ho ho

  15. Hi Terence,

Same as Gingko,I would also like to sit in
as listener and taking this opportunity to
meet up and chat with members in SHC.

    Thanks

    Eileen

  16. Haha, Terence, obviously you’re more conversant with tagalog than cantonese.

What I said was, “what shall I do? This time I’ll hv to take my daughter with me to listen to the goose purr (cant use “gospel” which may be offensive)”.

Was bemused why my name was up there ?

Maybe, you want the turkey me to talk cock with the vendor of the best cockerel rice at lau pasat to sell us the food at pre-GST price payable by NETS with him absorbing the additional charges.

Cant say no to a big job so will hv to start psycho-ing my gal to let me go………

  17. For this month’s gathering, Shirley Wong is the Event Organiser.

Oi Cheng would be handling the evening’s registration and distribution of the drink’s voucher.

    Terence Seah

  18. Tim,

“Go into the bicycle support biz by supplying umbrellas to the cyclists but pls dont ask them to hold the umbrellas themselves. Provide a total biz concept. Provide comfort. Carry the umbrella yrself, shield them as you run with them.”

    Think out of the box.

Everyday ride a static exercise cycle which charges a electric car battery. At the same time, use solar to parallel charge it too. Weekend drive green electric vehicle. Rain proof.

Biz idea. Run a gym which charges the battery. Then sell human/solar battery charging services.

    Easy. “Man Powered”

  19. Hi Caroline,

Since there are quite a few members who can bake and have interests in baking bread, and you have hands-on knowledge in the bakery industry and a great cook, could I allocate you a time slot to speak? It would be great if you could share your experience/knowledge about the bakery industry and perhaps churn out an idea or two for those interested in doing a small baking business together.

    Shirley

  20. KT, I can never cease admiring you………..you definitely are one who always thinks out of the box, be it a pandora box or muhd ali’s box where he floored joe frazier with a left hook.

Ok, I’ll get my Ben son Yew Kwong to standby with their cameras as we marvel yr cycling te static bike to the solar source.

  21. Hi Shirley. Thanks for the compliments.

However, I apologise if I have to disappoint you.

The only business I have done was short lived. I only baked for family and their friends who wish to buy my cakes. I stopped after I found out that I cannot bake from home for commercial purpose.

Bakers Bakery on Victoria Street was shared by many people. I was a kid then, and went there for the free cakes and curry puffs. Did not do any work.

Many of my friends encouraged me to go into business but I am not keen cos I dont have the experience nor am I risk taker.

However, if there is an opportunity, I do not mind having a mini baking marathon where a group of members who are bakers or wannabes, gather to bake our specialty and learn from each, share the recipes and enjoy the fruits of our labour.

I have to decline this invitation. My apologies :(

    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  22. Hi
Shirley/Caroline and the rest of Bakers United

    okey dokey… no bakery

“mini baking marathon” is good too. Let’s put the MICE in the dough.

We create our own Oct Fest. Events and competition. Rice wine cellar and the mother-of-all mooncakes for publicity. Other highlights could be Mile-Long-Hotdog; Fastest Cake in the East; Beautiful Buns.

Give ducks a race for their money. This will be the signature President Challenge for the year.

  23. Hi Terence,

My name is Alfred Ang and is a new member of Silver Hairs Club. I would like to attend the gathering and meet the members.
Please register me for this event.

    Thank you !

  24. Hi KT (hope you dont mind me using KT only). Yes, will be there but will late cos I finish work at 6pm.

See you there and hope to come up with something.

    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  25. Hi Terence
I’m Pauline, a new member to the club, very much like to join the meeting on 17 July but may be late at 1830pm is this OK? Do not know the exact location of the place, thought Lau Pa Sat is at Shenton Way. Apologies for being a “sua koo”. Where is this Pret A Manager?

  26. Pauline,

Pret A Manger is in Ogilvy Centre 35 Robinson Road. It is at the Boon Tat Street/Robinson Road corener ie the side nearest to DBS/MPH.

You must also remember that it is opposite Lau Pa Sat especially in an emegency. LPS is the nearest toilet. Terence has a strange sense of humor….

  27. Hi, everybody esp Mr Terence. This is Alfred.
Would like to know if the monthly meeting is always held at the LPS market? Would like to sit in and immerse with you guys.

  28. Hi Alfred,

Yes, the monthly gatherings are usually held in the CBD area, for reasons of convenience, size of place and cost.

We have registered you, and look forward to your coming.

    Terence Seah

  29. Hi Terence, pls register me for the gathering.

Hi all, I am rather to this club, hope to meet more members hence make more friends! Cheerz.
    Thanks much
    Cindy

  30. Hi Terence

I’ll be attending but will be late – finishing work at 6pm. Where exactly is pret a manger located. Sorry, I don’t usually frequent this part of town. Tnx.

    Mani

  31. Really would like to come but my working hours kind of strange. It starts at 2.30pm and ends around 9 to 10 in the evening but just in case I can get away will try to be there.

    Hasimah

  32. Hello Terence,

Glad to note that there are 46 attendees and counting for this gathering (Caroline Gee registered twice). Yes I am definitely keen to participate. I am a newbie and hope to meet existing members.

    Cheers, KF Soong

  33. Hasimah, it’s said that curiosity kills the cat but me, at worst, is only a monyet so wonder what takes you away btwn 2.30pm – 9 p.m.?

Btw, S-League kicks off at 7.45 pm so you cant be a professional footballer.

  34. Hi Terence,

I’ve not been following what’s happening of late with SilverHairs. But I will be there. So, do count me in. Thanks.

    Thomas

  40. Hi Terence

I’ll be attending but will be late – finishing work at 6pm.

New to the place, where is the best place to park the car?

    Aaron

  41. Hi Terence

I have not been following very closely what’s happenings lately as I was busy with some other projects. But please register me (Winnie Lim) and my husband (Geoffrey Foo) for this coming gathering (17 July 2007). We will be there. See you then. Have a nice & blessed day.

    Winnie

  42. Hi Terence,

I’m new here. Would like to attend this coming gathering. Please help to register myself. Would like to bring along my partner as well. Might be slightly late though. Thanks.

    Patrick Koh

  43. The nearest train station to get to Ogilvy Centre is Raffles Place MRT. You take Exit F. Once outside, you will be on Robinson Road. Walk against the traffic, passing AIA Building, Hong Leong Building and Lau Pa Sat. Ogilvy Centre is the one after Lau Pa Sat. As for parking, you can park at Market Street Car Park.

Anyone with better parking places, please let us know.
    Shirley

  44. To all the new and existing members joining us for the first time, a warm welcome and we all look forward to see and know you!!!

    Shirley

  45. Running a small business from a kiosk selling arts/crafts, clothes, handmade jewellry is the way for many. Are there any members, aspiring to start such a business sharing the kiosk with others, so that rental is lowered, etc?

Members with skills in making jewellry, etc and those with connections to suppliers of stuff for sale, please let us know who you are…

  46. Hi Terence,
Pls sign me in…wud love to hear what other members hv to say…also, i saw many new names besides the 40 of us who went to Batam trip!

  47. Oi Cheng,

We need your help for registration on that day. Can I have one more person to help Oi Cheng, with the registration on that day. Got to come at 5pm. Thank you.

    Terence Seah

  48. Hi Choong Swee,

We confirm your wife Wong Li Li is a registered member. Look forward to seeing both of you durning the evening.

    Terence Seah

  49. Hi Terence,

I now see Andrew Yeung has volunteered to help. I shall withdraw my “services” then. Perhaps, another time and when I have the time? :-)

  50. Gingko

Sorry, I don’t know you have already offer your services. Thanks for your generous. I do the registration because I want to know more new faces and remember their names. Thanks again

  51. Hi Gingko,

We always welcome assistance from members during gatherings. You can help me in the form of introducing new members to the others and spreading them out amongst the existing members.

So, I will see you then?
    Shirley

  52. Aiyo, Gingko, looking at the rate of response, the more help that Oi Cheng can get is the blessing to her la.. I am sure that your help will still be needed, be it like writing the names on sticky labels, marking attendances, etc etc… No need to withdraw la… Next time, help again lor..

  53. The response to this gathering is fantastic. Just about a week ago, we had around 40+ names.

I am expecting some degree of disorganisation, but I think it is good. Shirley and team will manage through.

Come and meet other SilverHairs. We have to look for a bigger place, the next time round. Your suggestions welcome.

Gingko, I shall get back to you.

    Terence

  54. Terence, National Stadium b4 it’s finally demolished………..can seat 60,000. Or the several big fields at choa chu kang with folks more senior than us waiting to sign up on the spot.

  55. Tim Liu…u always the bad boy lah…if we hold at choa chu kang…then definately we need ur services, bcos u r more familiar with those folks rite??hehehe:)

  56. Nor, I talk to them and, as usual, you write to them….we work as a team. Got good numbers, we share; got bad numbers, you bear. If they chase you & oyu stumble, far far away, I heh heh heh…….

  57. Hi Tim Liu

Paiseh, paiseh, where did I boot you out? I do not know anything about this hor! Just came back from Malaysia, did not realise that registration closed. Just saw the passage in blue. Terence, please put me on waiting list.

Sorry for not realising registration closed.

  58. Everybody gets face green, nose white, silverhairs dropping, all kancheong to rush for a seat but you relac in Msia……………..SB, you really the cool, man.

No problem lah, I vacate it for you this time but in future if you happen to sit next to a chio, then you vacate yr seat. Deal signed sealed & deliverd, not backing out.

(Btw, the word in #132 shd be “rung”………escapes me why it was “rudder”……….tim must hv hit his head hard, falling from the 15th rung)

  59. Tim Liu ah

Aiyah, no need to vacate lah – you register first, you have the place lah, fair is fair. I will wait for cancellations (usually there are many), if not, I will just attend the next one, no problem.

    Thanks anyway.
    sb

  60. Hahaha, so SB, you’re staring into the future, beleieving that you’ll hv a pretty chio sitting next to you & so wont vacate the seat for me?

So much for a bro (and lends truth to the saying, heng dai yu yi fook; lui yan zhi ke dok, hehe, read it in hainanese hor).

Seriously, wkdays are my workdays so happy that you take my place, and if you’re really my butty, pls take the chair back for me.

  61. Dolly-san, you are right. Tremendous response. It’s a big crowd. Am sure Terence would have something lined up for me. Will wait and see. ;)

Andrew, no problem. That’s what we joined SilverHairs for, isn’t it? Meet more members and make new friends.

Hi Shirley, sure. Let’s wait to hear from the Chief, shall we? Look forward to meeting you.

  62. I believe this is the first time we see such a big group and seems to me many are new. This is very encouraging. Looking forward to meeting all of you.
Jie, I shall prepare the attendees list.

  63. Hi everybody….I just registered. Guessed I missed the 17 July gathering. Organiser please let me know if there is space for me to “squeeze in”. Anyway, keep me informed of future activities.

    Best Regards
    >

  64. Hi everybody,… I had wanted to join in the gathering this time round, but looks like all the seats are taken. Perhaps join you folks the next time round. Have fun. Cheers.

  67. Rosalind and I would like to attend tonight’s gathering. We returned from Shanghai on Sun 15 July and thus this last min’s registration. 69. Hi ST and Rosalind,

Regret to inform that we would not be able to accomodate you at tonight’s gathering as there are still a lot of people on waiting list.

Keep in touch and look out for next month’s gathering.

  70. Hi everyone,

Tonight’s the nite where we would brainstorm ideas for small businesses amongst SHC members. Anything is possible and we accept all ideas for legitimate businessess. If you are already doing something on a really small scale, please do share with us.

Kindly take note that we would only allow members whose names are listed above to sit in. Walk-ins would NOT be entertained. We seek your understanding and cooperation on this matter.

    Thank you

  71. HI Folks
glad I attended the gathering on 17th July at Pret a Manger. Had a fun time meeting and chatting with you people. Also received the most beautiful surprise – meeting my ex-student Soong Kian Fah after decades. Boy I feel ancient!
    Thanking Terrence for your patience.

  72. Apparently, there are quite a few of our members meet up with their long forgotten schoolmates, friends or colleagues.

I would like to suggest that we have a post on “Finding our lost schoolmates, friends or colleagues” Sound interesting?

Let me start with my finding as follow :
Anyone from Eilling North Primary School from 1961 to 1966 ? or anyone from Serangoon Garden Technical Secondary School from 1967 to 1970 ?

It will be very nice to meet up with OLD Classmates/Schoolmates after decades.

    Have a Nice Day.

    Patrick Yeo

  73. Patrick, I am shedding tears of joy, that i hv found you, lost for the past 40 plus years.

See, I was from Bartley Primary, separated by some shrubs with Eilling North, and we used to fight horses, with you guys who singing when you came & flinching when we Bartlians started kicking butts 1 by 1. That way, we made friends.

When you moved to S’goons Gdns Technical, I too moved to S’goons to stay, and cycled there to tease the Technical gals who were really best in techniques.

So if you still meet up with Catherine, Susan, Dolly, Lily, Linda, Veronica………..pls say hello for me.
