Queen Elizabeth II – A once in a lifetime memory for all SilverHairsClub members

Queen Elizabeth II has passed away. A Queen whom many of us know during our lifetime.

Some of us have been “to London to see the Queen”. And  I think everyone of us have memories of the Queen.

There will be no more Queen who has lived this long.  Lets share our memories of Queen Elizabeth II. When have you seen her?

Freestyle Libre (Continuous Glucose Monitoring)

Hello Fellow SHC members old n new,

My name is Leon and have been a SHC member for more than 10 years. The purpose of my posting today is to bring to your awareness of a nation wide campaign of a collaboration between Abbott Laboratories and Diabetes Association Singapore. I am one of the appointed ambassador/promoter of this campaign. This campaign is also announced in CNA news 2 weeks ago.

https://cnalifestyle.channelnewsasia.com/wellness/diabetes-blood-sugar-levels-wearable-glucose-monitor-no-prick-326531?cid=internal_sharetool_androidphone_31082022_cna .

They are introducing a revolutionary CGM ( Continuous Glucose Monitoring)program with a medical sensor that no longer required blood sampling and is painless. The first step to manage diabetes is is to monitor your blood glucose level and then manage it with diet and medication. Many diabetic person don’t do the blood sampling testing for fear of the needles and the hassle. In fact I observe many patient take a indifferent attitude towards their diabetic condition. Currently doctors prescribe medications that need you to take after every meal. Medication have side effects. With this program, you can manage your diabetes with diet first and then medication if necessary. This device is given free to all diabetes patients during this campaign period upon successful registration.

I urge all suffering diabetic persons to take the opportunity to participate in the program. The link to register is in the article near to the end. Diabetes is sometimes called the Mother of all diseases with its linkage to a host of future medical problems (blindness, amputation, kidney failure, etc) if it is not managed well. The campaign is for a limited period only ending in October.

So please don’t hesitate or proscratinate. Submit your registration now.

Thank you for your attention.

SilverHairsClub news update:

On the pessimistic side, the world is in a mess. There is covid around every corner, the not-so-sure when the Russian-Ukraine war can end, the outcome of the US mid term elections, why the world suffers from oil shortage when the US has huge crude oil capacity and Russia is sanctioned from selling to China and India. And why China is circling Taiwan.

Seniors may not feel the effects of this ongoing mess. But we know GST increase must go through. Petrol getting expensive. Fresh chickens are getting smaller. And we dont know why we still feel we are getting younger.

If current affairs is your interest, join us on zoom, every Wed 8pm, including tonight.

Type ZOOM LINK at the whatsapp box 5 mins before 8pm.

The future of monthly gatherings. Where do u suggest we hold our gatherings?

Many of SHC monthly gatherings are held at food courts. Reasons include flexibility of dates, seats, choice of food and choice of prices.

But often there are not enough seats to sit together as a big group. Foodcourts tends to focus on us if we dont order foods or drinks. Worse, if we bring food.

Price-wise, food courts are varied, and prices vary from less than $10 to $20 for a dish and one drink.

Noise wise, we can be very noisy as a group.

Location, we usually choose food courts near a MRT.

Date/time, we usually choose a weekend, and around 2pm – 5pm. Means we skip busy lunch and dinner hours.

What can we do? What do you suggest for future gatherings?

Terence Seah

July Monthly Meeting – 17th July Sunday 2pm to 5pm. EO Ronald Wi.

Toa Payoh Hub – Gourmet Paradise – Food Court (Basement 1 at Bus Interchange, Mrt exit A)

Attractions- Famous rojak, Salmon Fish Head Soup (rare) Nasi Padang, Hougang Muah Chee, Soup King ( biggest one) etc, etc

It may be a bit busy – but there is ample space especially at the back. It is also good time to know which are the really good stalls, with long Qs – especially the famous TP Rojak

The co-EO, each, can be the smaller group leader to discuss/share their various interests, expertise so members can a have a chance to be more open minded, to listen, etc.

At the same time is a weekend, everyone can be more relax, but free to go around different groups and pick and join each group topic of interests.

In this way too, we can encourage all members to form a group to organize the next monthly meeting so an individual do not have to be stress all alone, right?

Lastly as you all noticed there is no cut-off registration time, so anyone can join in, in this meeting at any time. Feel free to bring friends to introduce them to SHC too.

I do not have to make any reservations for any food or seats, so feel free to come at anytime within 2 to 5pm
