Event Cordinator for EC events

In the early days of SHC, we had EC events. As we move on with the club, we still require all SHC events to be EO events only.

However this requirement has become not practical for many events.

Today, SHC Admin, Dolly Lim, also a pioneer since 2005, proposed allowing for EC events . I shall review this and revert with a position in a weeks time.

1. SHC EO events can only be participated by Ordinary members.

2. EC events are organised by members, and partially participated by friends of members.

3. , SHC members, ECs, may publish their photos or videos in SHC Forum or Facebook.

Only mames, groups and photos of Ordinary members can be published in the forum.

4. We will not support anti SHC activities..

5. In doubt, consult the SHC admin Dolly Lim or Sally. Foo or myself.

For SHC Facement, approval can be given by Facebook admin Jean Lim. Facebook is more free for EC events

SHC One night in Seoul

Place and date not decided.

One night in Seoul is a theme Dinner & Dance. This event is part of a series of one night events, held previously in Shanghai, Bangkok, Johor, Hongkong, Taipei and Tokyo.

This year, we move to Seoul. We plan for 100 pax, but if the organisation goes well, we may do 150 or 200 pax.

1. We start by identifying the ballroom, capable of between 100 and 200 pax.

2. Recruiting membets able to sing popular korean songs.

3. Once venue jdentified, we piece together a reception team, a F&B and decor team, a participation team, a music team, etc.

4. After venue, we look for a band or music system to meet our requirements.

Suggestions on the lookout on this forum.

Participation and promotion MLM activities

Hi Bobby Bok,

It has come to my attention that you have been bringing groups of SHC members for tours and makan and selling and promoting products from Riway deer placenta pyramid scheme and promoters who claim pills can help stage 4 cancer.

MLM activitites is strictly not allowed in the club. And bringing members on tours, makan and presentations.

I’m about to take action and ban you from Silverhairsclub. If I do not hear from you by 31st December 2022, any justification or consideration, your ban will start immediately 1st January 2023.

Dear SHC members,

We have been working on renewing our management last 5 years. However, we have not been successful finding a volunteer management team, especially a team leader, after 17 years in operation.

The Silverhairsclub is still looking for a leadership change to take charge for the next 5 years.

Collecting commision from advertising, promoting, introduction or selling products or services to SHC members

It has come to my attention that some members get a commission when introducing other members to external courses including skills development or skill credits courses.

In concept, it sounds like “Why not?” when the cause is good.

SHC was developed as a free platform. It incurs costs in operating the Club.  However, some members are unwilling to contribute to a SHC startup operating fund. And they use our members and forum to advertise and collect monetary benefits in return.

The club will be reviewng this situation.

Daniel Chan’s suggestion to take SHC forward as a registered entity

At last night’s meeting, 11 Jul 2021, Daniel Chan has suggested to take SHC forward as a registered entity. His view is that we cannot collect donations if we are unregistered.

From members’ feedback in recent surveys and live recordings, members have overwhelming opted to remain status quo ie unregistered and informal. Plse follow this thread.

To give this topic one more opportunity to bring SHC into the registered status, I am open to Daniel Chan bringing his suggestion into fruit.

DanielC, pls go ahead to do all necessary discussions with members, to set up SHC as a registered entity. This will likely take some months. Once your protem committee and entity is set up, you can invite current members to join this new entity. I open this option and shall leave this to you.

Meantime, SHC shall proceed to move forward as preferred by the majority of SHC members. We shall stay clear within the laws as Singapore citizens, and keep to our rules of not engaging in politics, race, religion, sex, direct selling and MLM. Our single objective, since 2005, is to provide a platform for seniors to meet new and old friends.

How to verify your SHC membership via whatsapp auto- response?

Auto SHC Membership verification (1 min).- Verify your SilverHairsClub membership by sending a whatsapp msg “Am I a SHC member? My name is xxxx xxxx xxx.” to 9489 4360. Exact format within quotes.

Verified members will receive a Club’s verification within 1 min.

If no response within 1 min, this likely means your membership has lapsed, you did not follow the text or your tel is incorrect.

Verified members names will be published in the Club forum.

In future, some activities would require membership verification to participate.

Funding SHC for the next 5-10 years

SHC is not funded by any individual or organisation. All activities are voluntary and at costs. EO usually report losing money despite putting in time, effort and costs

We can carry on as we have done for the last 15 years.

A common question which members asked is how much do we have under the pillow. My answer is Zero.

At the recent feedback on finding a successor, we had some suggestions to raise funds. We had not considered because many members felt we should remain status quo because of legal concerns and how to go about. I am not in favour of fees and subscriptions. I think that collecting fees is a debate itself as members have expressed strongly they benefit differently from SHC besides the legalities, so fees or subscriptions is an unfair concept.

But we should still explore how we can fund ourselves. Besides the operational costs, we should now look forward the next 5-10 years how to manage new seniors expectations eg how to handle major events, membership drives without running losses.

If we have a fund, we can see ourselves operating as a voluntary social club for the next 5 or even 10 years. This will enable the Club successor and the Admin committee to run SHC, within rules set.

To start the process, I like to initiate 2 brainstorms sessions. Members get to voice your opinion and suggestion.

Session 1 – What are the big ticket activities or ideas, you, as a member, expect or hope to see within the next 5-10 years. Date next Sat/Sun.

Session 2 – We should then determine a budget as our aim for a fund. Here, we brainstorm how can go about setting a fund.

Both sessions are recorded, for members update.

You can also participate in this topic in SilverHairsClub.com forum.

Chap Goh Mei (YuanXiaoJie) or Lantern Festival

The 15th day marks the first night of the full moon and also the end of Chinese New Year celebration.  It is also known as Lantern Festival Day.  Another reunion dinner for us to celebrate, a customary to have special sweet dumplings called YuanXiao also called TangYuan made of glutinous rice flour stuffed with sugar fillings, symbolizing a family unity and wholeness.

This festive is about rejoicing and cultivating positive relationship between people – friends and families.  Another legend associates with higher beings ‘Ruler of Heaven’ responsible for good fortune, bestowing wealth and good luck.

To some, Chap Goh Mei is known as the Chinese Valentine’s Day – coz long time ago it was the only day that young maidens were allowed to dress up, stroll on the street and went to temples to pray, wishing to bestow a suitable match.  Such believes are still practice to this day…

Let us know how do you celebrate your last day or Chap Goh Mei which falls on Friday, 26 February 2021…

Tonight we have a Zoom session to share this new App Signal.

Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum

Where were we on Christmas Eve?

We (Chan Keng Ngee, Katherine, Laura Wee, Jasmine Wong, Sandra Chuah, Lydia Chin, Annie Seah and me la) spent our morning touring Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum at the Kent Ridge Campus of the National University of Singapore.  Officially opened on 18 April 2015.

The Museum currently has more than 560,000 catalogued lots in its collection and over a million specimens from throughout the region and about 2000 of these are exhibited in the museum’s galleries.

Everyone had a wonderful time walking thru these history memory lanes and also busy taking photographs to showcase too…

We initially scheduled to leave around 12 noon for our lunch but was delayed till 2pm as there were more to cover but time was not at our side as we can heard our stomach crying for food liao.

Eateries around NUS were either not opened to public or too much R&R to follow so we finally landed in Alexandra Village for our lunch.

Many thanks to ChanKN for making this trip possible as he got discounted lobang for entrance tickets.  Till the next outing…

Cheers!
