Come this Saturday, zoom in for my Yummy Yummy session. See you.
Saturday 11:30amYummyYummy “Where/What should I eat?” [1hr]: EO Louis Siah – a good introduction and sharing of every MUST-EAT nook & corner plus online food orders and delivery. Open to Screen Sharing and Text Chat.
A What’sApp Group Chat of 50 members had been created by Terence on Sunday, 09 May 2021. The OBJECTIVE is to help “like-minded members” find friends via Hawker Food.
The 1st response unanimously kicks off today, Thursday, 13 May 2021 limited to 5 pax by Pat Oei. Photo image speaks for itself – happy group cum Lor Mee / Bak Chor Mee.
Group 1
1. Marie Nicole Chong
2. Linda
3. Pat Oei
4. Wayne Wong
5. Catherine Chng
The 2nd and 3rd group are on the way… Looking forward to their happy bonding albeit pandemic. Please observe social distancing advice for your own safety.
The 7th Zonal meet-up managed to make its way on Friday, 16 April 2021 to Boleh Boleh! located at 3155 Commonwealth Ave West #04-20/22, Singapore 129588. The session starts from 11am and end slightly after 3.30pm with the 2 EOs at their helms to make sure no one was left out.
We had 11 members signed up and all turned up for this makan and friendship bonding. We had to split into 2 tables to observe safe distancing measures. They are:-
VincentH – EO
ChanKH – Co-EO
AnneC
ChengWK
DollyL
FongWC
JessieO
StellaS
MargaretS
SherryW
EveC
Many interesting discussions on wellness & health, tours & holidays and current activities besides Zonal meet-up, were shared and discussed among members. I must say that mission accomplished for each and every one especially for me, longing for this catch-up with ex-colleague cum friend of 25years, MargaretS was to no avail till now.
Some of us need to leave by 2pm but both 2 EOs together with Cheng were still chatting while waiting for the remaining members to turn up.
Lastly, kudos to VincentH and ChanKN for their efforts towards this meet-up as well as Cheng for his company, we can see from photos of many smiling or laughing faces. BTW, do make a guess, where and when will the next Zonal meet-up be? Or why not give us an option or suggestion and liaise with ChanKN and he will create a future meet-up link… the continuation will be ongoing and happening again…
This is SHC 3rd Zonal Meeting – though a little late in posting in the Silverhairsclub.com website, I must say being the EO for the Bedok Mall Zonal lunch at Buddy Hoagies on 18 Dec was heartwarming and rewarding.
The cosy ambiance at Buddy Hoagies adds to the beauty of the members relaxing and enjoying their chit chats, Some of us met for a first time, but talk like old friends. During chats, some members found out that they have similar interest and kakis were discovered. As for me, in addition to meeting zoom friends personally, a reunion with old buddies Dolly n Catherine Ho from 15 years ago.
Food was delicious and value for its price, especially when comes with complimentary garlic bread, soup & a drink. Thanks so much, Chan Keng Ngee and Dolly Lim for organising the several zonal groups island wide. Both supported each zone’s ‘start up’ gathering by physically being there with each zone’s EO and its members. It was great that a few members from the other zones joined us at the Bedok Mall Zonal lunch too. Members from other zones are encouraged to join, have fun, and to widen our circle of friends which is a vision of Silverhairsclub.com.
Now that a group of 8 pax are allowed, I look forward to have makan and minum kopi with more members.
1/3 of our life is spent eating. So, “what and where to eat ” are favourite talking points. Probably, food is a great way to get to know more friends. That’s why we always hear “Sudah makan?”, after lunch time.
Food is the easiest topic in any discussion. There is Hokkien, Hakka or Cantonese style dishes. There are Thai, Indonesian, and italian dishes too. Where to eat? Many places are hidden, and some of us know where to find tasty dishes, old fashioned Hokkien mee at some faraway corner, at really good prices.
I have always tried to look for topics and reasons for SHC members to meet. Well, food is a good reason. With Covid-19 still around us, let’s use SHC Zoom to meet, talk and share “What and where to eat?”. and meet new and old friends.
Let us meet every Sat 11.30 am to 12.30pm. The main table can be as big as we like. For those who like smaller tables, we can seat you in separate private rooms of 4-6 pax (automatic free seat assignment). Come join us, and you can see how SHC Zoom works for big and small groups. Get your friends to meet you at 11.30 am every Sat.
Date : March 5 2020 Time : From 12noon till 4.00pm – You can leave anytime you like..
Planning to go for Sembawang Hot Spring Park since it last re-opened for public but always no time to do so. But for now, it seems to be a fairly good idea to pay a visit to enjoy natural hot spring.
Those members with the same mindset as I, are welcome to join me to have a dip in the hot spring water for 10 – 20mins, boil eggs? and etc…
What to bring? Towels, swimsuit, extra clothings, footwear and umbrella and not to forget drinking water. You may also need to bring plastic carriers to keep those wet towels, swimsuit and clothings.
Then after soak/dip followed shower, we can proceed to have tea with cakes.

I love Malaysia, especially its beaches. I too love Malaysian food. Although I travel extensively within Asia, it seems I will not have enough of enjoying Malaysia’s countryside, food, beaches and other delights.

I have formed a retiree club in the Kembangan area wherein active retirees can:
gather for coffee chats in the nearby coffee shops/joints in the east
makan in the hawker centres/markets in Bedok, Paya Lebar and Tampines in the east
morning walks at 5.30 am or late evening walks at 6.30 pm when it’s not too hot
introduction to ukulele fun
yak yak on anything (ranging from current affairs, in-laws, grown-up kids to anything under the sun)
help and seeking advice from one another
cycling in the parks (I need a trike or tandem rider though)
….. and so on…. the list is by no means exhaustive
The 24-hour sarabat stall at Jalan Lapang (Kembangan) may be a good venue to be considered. It’s just a stone’s throw from the Kembangan mrt station. Those staying in this area may be familiar with this eating place. It’s rustic, nostalgic and gives the ambience of Singapore in the early 60s or a typical Malaysian sarabat stall of today.
These are only ideas on the drawing board and can be finetuned as we gather momentum. A chatline has been set up for those who have indicated interest so as to keep everyone in the loop on activities or good sharings. As we’re retirees, we’ll keep to thrifty thrills/fun…. no lavish spending.
So far, some 20 of my friends (mostly shc) have already indicated their interest in joining this retiree club as and when they’re free. It’s good to form friendships now before it’s too late. One’s spouse may not be with you forever and depression may set in (if you’re too close or dependent on your beloved) and especially when you’re already facing the empty nest syndrome. We must rely on ourselves for our own well-being and happiness. There’s a saying:
“No one is born happy but every one is born with the Ability to create HAPPINESS”.
Just leave a message here or apps me (if you have my hp number) if you are interested in joining the Retiree Club (East). A very important requirement is no quarrelling, hitting below the belt or gossips on my chatline (taboos for the retiree club). We want everyone to be happy and get along well. Any recalcitrant member will be deleted from my chatline :-)
Thank you.
Warmest regards,
Gabriella

For a long time, we have been trying to organise cooking classes. We love to cook, try new receipes and finally eat, what we cook. However, it has not been easy to find a cooking place. Conducting cooking classes in the house or apartment has not been very successful, due to limited space and resources. Venue has always been hard to find. Schools with cooking facilities are expensive; although they are idea. Some members have their own specialties. There are Hokkien, Hakka, Beijing, Indian and Indonesia food. We can also have break making classes, cakes, etc. Last week, I was shown around the cooking training classroom with full kitchen facilities at CSC Tessensohn Road. I was impressed. Holding cooking classes at such venues has its advantages, although there is cost, timing, cleaning and effort to go with it. But, maybe we can now try cooking classes, a great way to meet the club objective of providing a platform for members to meet new friends. Food through the stomach; and putting members and seniors skill to good value.
If you like to try other members’ specialties, please raise your hand. So, we know who you are. Maybe you like bread, cup cakes, 12 layer something, etc.
If you have a couple of specialty food skills, and like to share and teach your delicacies, please raise your hand. We might pick up the idea, and conduct cooking courses.
There is in each one of us a wish for a better tomorrow. A hope that life will be smooth sailings with no worry of ailing health or a weak heart. A desire for good companionship and unfailing friendship.
The story of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ is the story of mankind struggle for existence. The Scarecrow wish to have a brain, the Tin man for a heart and the Lion for courage. Let’s look forward to the New Year with excitement, meeting and cherishing new friend.
Join us for a time of singing and singalong as we celebrate another year coming to an end. We shall have High Tea, bring snacks to share. After the session we may adjourn for Steamboat Fish Head nearby and a leisurely stroll on Orchard Road. Alas, I wish for red wine but not with High-Tea!
Venue: Kolam Ayer CC, Geylang Bahru, 11 minutes walk from Potong Pasir MRT.

To everything there is a time and a season under the sun. A time to come together, to cherish one another. A time to hug and to hold and a time to let go. A time to do good and to sow good seeds. A time to play and a time to sing and a time to serenade a loved one. What are the niceties of life, a touch, a smooch, a longing for someone?
I got a place just for you: Venue: Kolam Ayer CC, Geylang Bahru (11 minutes walk from Potong Pasir MRT)

Mid Autumn festival is traditionally held annually in the month of September and October. The official date for year 2013 is September 19. Moon cakes abounds in shops all over towns and carrying of lanterns lends gaiety to the occasion. What is the significance of this festival and how does it affect the life of each of us? Many folklore are told and it would be good to hear from those who are familiar to share with us here. One fable was those how it came about.
‘The Zhuang people, for example, have an ancient fable saying the sun and moon are a couple and the stars are their children, and when the moon is pregnant, it becomes round, and then becomes crescent after giving birth to a child. These beliefs made it popular among women to worship and give offerings to the moon on this evening’.
Well, that only half of the story. We are here to join in the celebration and I have booked a nice place.
Date: September 29 (Sun) 1.00-5.00pm/Kolam Ayer Community Club, Geylang Bahru/Nearest MRT Potong Pasir (11 minutes walk)
Bring Moon cakes and snacks for High Tea. We shall have singalong and fun. Hot water only provided, bring hot beverage packages.
Cost: If we have 10 pax each at $6.00, if 20 pax $3.00 each. We especially appeal to new members to join us…………
Now that the Mandarin class is under able hands I shall focus on another topic of interest. Book reading seems out of place for us oldies. Back to the drawing board and losing more hair in the process. Singalong session will be encouraged throughout. Everybody will have to sing in groups.
One of my policy from day one was to organize event that can reach to as many member as possible. How else can we get the new member to come forward to become active and to play a greater in adding vibrancy to the Club?
Four hours for singing. An opportunity to meet new friend here.
Date: September 29 (Sunday)
Time: 1:00pm-5:00pm
Venue: Kolam Ayer CC, Geylang Bahru (11 minutes walk from Potong Pasir MRT)
Cost: $6.00 if we have 10 pax, $3.00 if we achieve 20 pax or pro-rated.
Hot water provided, bring your own beverage packages and some snacks for High Tea.
Depending on respond, we may have it on monthly. Please indicate whether you are coming for one or both session.
Each month, we can have a Food and Makan place review.
Many of us love good and good price food.
If you have been to a restaurant, cafe or food court recently, feel free to write about it here. As this is a review category, feel to express how yummy the food is, how crispy the nuts are, and how well set up the place is. Of course, if the place is terribble, you can express so. But make sure you have experience the food or the place personally.
This is a new category focusing on “Food and Makan area review” has just been created. If you are a food critic, feel free to write regularly, and share your review. You may get a Food writer of the year award.
This is a column we can look out for venues for some of our Club gatherings.
A new category focusing on “Food and Makan area review” has just been created. Other than travel and dancing, food is one of the most loved topics among Singaporeans.
If you have patronised a restaurant, cafe or food corner, you can give a food review. As long as you have tried it recently, you can write a food review. I have joined a couple of members, and I can see they just love good food. One day, these members can write for food magazines, and even be a food critic.
Please start a new Post, if you wish to write a food review.
