The Last One Night – Cabaret Night 3

cabaret3a   cabaret3c   cabaret3b

For some of us, we had sad memories in our lives.  We tried to forget the good times and then the bad times, and then we remembered the good times again.  We tell ourselves life must go, and that we must try to forget the good and the sad memories. Many sad memories are painful and they are difficult to shake them off.

Songs bring back time, sorrows and hurt.  And to kick start “Cabaret 3  The Last One Night”, I like to dedicate this song to those who have been hurt and wish to move on with their lives.

  1. Memories linger, and we set the mood and pace for Cabaret night 2, theme “The last one night”.

Please look around for a one-man or one-girl electrone/organ musician. Familiar with Chinese oldies, and a good entertainer too. If you do know of a musician friend, please contact/whatsapp me at 9489-4360.

Please participate in the organising of this event. We shall try to add your ideas and suggestions into the theme.

Meantime, if you love to sing Chinese oldies, nostalgic ones, tearful songs, and we can dance to the music, this is it. The earlier you raise your hands, the earlier we fit you into the theme.

Be a part of “The last one night”.

  2. We had Cabaret Night in Taipei on July 2013. You can read about the last event here. http://silverhairsclub.com/?p=8206.

Cabaret night 2 is a comeback to bring back memories of the 60s and 70s.; This time, the theme is “The Last One night”. I like to invite the senior members who had participated in Taipei night to come back and bring back “The Last One Night”.

Here are some guidelines to the planning.
    1. Focus on oldie Chinese songs and dancing of the 60s and 70s.
    2. Environment and setting in a Cabaret, a dance hall .
sprinkled with a couple of English songs of the era.
    3. Music wise – looking for a one-man musician, on an electone/organ, great with Chinese oldies, evergreen, memorable and dancing music. Someone who can entertain us throughout the night.
    4. Food – Like in previous cabaret night, a non-essential item.
    5. Drinks – from soft drinks to cocktails, beer,
    6. Venue: Preferably place should have the mood, if not, we may have to set it up, Coloured lights would be fun. No lights, also ok. The event can be in a restaurant, a bar, a dancing hall. The dancing floor does not have to be in a square.
    7. Guests – strictly for SHC members only. Open to fat tummied businessmen, cabaret girls, gangsters, policemen, politicians, flower girls and guys and girls looking for company.

The above are guidelines. Feel free to let me know if you like to take up a role in Cabaret Night 2. To apply for any vacancies, please write to the Cabaret manager at Whatsapp +65 9489-4360.

I hope no one is offended by the theme and the guidelines.

  3. Hi DanielC,

Thank you for the Chinese lyrics of “The last One night”. Unless we go for Karaoke style music, the lyrics are useful.

I notice you are great with Cantonese songs. Many songs of the 60s and 70s are memorable, nostalgic, meaningful and danceable. Being the last one night, every song should have a meaning, and it should be memorable. We are all part of the era. Can I ask you to list out, maybe 3-5 Cantonese songs, which meet the theme line, ‘The Last One night”. If you have the youtube version, please share with us. I would like to include some of the songs to be played or sung during Cabaret Night 2. We are planning ahead, so your love for Cantonese songs can make the evening event memorable and enjoyable.

    TQ in advance.

  4. A number of members have asked when is “Cabaret Night 2” going to be held. Well, I dont have the answer. The quicker we identify the place, the sooner we will decide on the date.

    1. Food is not an important criteria. So, we may do away with food.
    2. The venue must have a dance floor. Lights are not important. No lights also ok. Perhaps, one with nice decor is preferred. Target numbers: 50 – 100 pax.
    3. If the venue has a music system, great. We are looking for a one-man musician, familiar with Chinese oldies, either on the electone/organ. Musician should cater to a dancing group with music from the 60s and 70s.
    4. Convenient and close to public transport.

Please help out. My whatsapp is +65 9489-4360.

    Terence Seah

  5. One area that we can explore to hold Cabaret Night 2 is to hold the event in JB. There are a number of hotels in JB Centre, with a price range of SGD 60 for a twin bed room. Shared, it could come to SGD 30 per person. Everybody can book via Agoda.com and have their preferred choice of where to stay for the night, after the Cabaret.

We can also make our own way to the hotel and the cabaret venue. We may even have the cabaret at the hotel, if there is a suitable venue.

A good idea. We may be able to hold the event in April, on a Sat night, if we are quick enough. Thank you for the suggestion.

    Terence Seah

  6. We will proceed further to organise Cabaret Night 2 at JB Centre. And for the night, members can stay at any hotel, and share as they like. You can check in anytime and checkout anytime. Members make their way to their choice of hotels.

For those who would stay at the recommended hotel, plse organise your room-mate. Through members’ recommendation, we shall select a hotel where most of us can stay together. Members have a choice of booking the hotel rooms on their own, via agoda.com, or other channels. Please look around to choose your hotel.

We will get back to you if there are preferred hotels.

    Terence Seah

  7. Hi Terence, my apology for replying you late. I missed your msg to me dated Feb13. NO problem for me to find the songs that relate to your theme. Your plan to hold the event in JB is GREAT. I hope members who are familiar with JB can help. I shall ask around too. For info, my exam week is 22 Feb to 4 March. Marking the papers is 7 to 11 March, followed by a long holiday to 10 April. Hence, between 12 Mar and 10 Apr, I can be actively involved in your “project”.
    DC

  8. Re Cabaret Night 2, based on feedback from members, I am making a visit to a few recommended JB hotels tomorrow. We are likely to determine the hotel where we will stay for the night, as well as where we will host the D&D.

Thank you to members who have written in with their suggestions, and also to the members who are giving me a ride into JB to evaluate the hotels and venue.

    Terence Seah

  9. A few members and myself went to evaluate the hotels in JB this morning. We made a few decisions.

    1. The venue for Cabaret Night 2, theme “The last one night” shall be at KSL hotel. The date shall be either 23 April or 7 May 2016, subject to final confirmation this week.

    2. The recommended hotel for Sat/Sun shall also be KSL Hotel. We are discussing a special rate for a room night. Will update you soon. Members can choose to stay at any hotel of their choice.

    Plse keep updated.

    Terence Seah

  10. Cabaret Night 2 “The Last One Night” will have both dancing and singing. We are looking around for a musician who can entertain us throughout the night.

Our target attendance is 100 pax. If you would like to sing during the night, plse register your self and the song title.

    1. Songs suitable for dancing, popular, in line with the theme, and from within the 60’s – 70’s period.
    2. Can be in any language,
    3. Singers can be male, female or duet.
    4. Time allocated for singing and dancing is 4-5 hours, subject to programming.
    5. During to limited time, each singer is limited to one song, duet to two songs.

We will create a singing registration list on a first come basis. To participate, simply register on this post personally with the song title, dialect/language. We will close the singing list on 31 Mar 2016.

    Look forward to your participation.

    1. We have started our reservations for the ballroom. KSL requires us to place a deposit for the use of the ballroom, the AV equipment and dance props.

No payment is required from participants for now.

However, I would ask you to organise yourselves into groups of 10 pax. Thus, a table will be reserved for you.

Individuals may also participate, and you will join a table as it is formed.

We will inform u of the price per person and per table this week. A discount will be given to the head of the table, if registered before 6 Mar 2016.

Estimated price per pax is $40. We will be working towards a 10% discount for those who formed a table.

      Terence Seah

  12. Just for information , it been almost,,, 5 years driving de orphanage home n disabled centre lorry for johor recycled collection.. Hahaha final good nite zzzzzzzz Cheers bro Sam Goh

  13. I am glad we are moving fast with regards to the organising of our coming D&D. One of our earlier members who have agreed to play a role in Cabaret Night 2 is Sam Goh. He shall be one of two comperes for the night.

Sam Huat was the bouncer for our first Cabaret night. He is cheerful and particularly helpful. Unfortunately, I can never understand his written English, which is a mix of Singaporean English and burn-out Hokkien. He applied for the role of compere for this Cabaret night 2. We will find him suitable for this role.

I have not met him for a few years now. He is familiar with JB, very involved with social and charity activities for handicap and disadvantaged children. How it works, I dont know, but he got himself busy with a laughter club too.

We are now putting up recruitment advertisements in the newspaper classifieds to look for a female compere, preferably Mandarin enabled. Please contact any of the senior SHC members who will know how to contact the Cabaret’s HR manager.

Members, let’s welcome Sam Goh, our compere for Cabaret Night 2.

    Terence Seah

  14. I was wrong that the next Cabaret night is our 2nd such event. In fact, there were Taipei night and Shanghai night; plus many other nights.; To get the sequence right, our next event would be Cabaret Night 3.

Thank you SallyT for raising your hands that you will be singing for us on “The Last One Night”. You have always been a keen singer; and I look forward to hearing your suggestions and ideas;. A new Post will be set up to register songs and participants. I will be working with Judy Lim to coordinate and selecting the song and singing list.

Meantime, we are also in the process of identifying a suitable co-compere. Likely a lady, talented and entertaining. Keep in touch.

    Terence Seah

  15. We have a suggestion to consider having one or two DIs for the night. I think it is a good idea, and we would consider. If you know of one or two DIs who lives and work in JB, let’s look at this possibility. We would pay reasonable fees.

Available on the night of Sat 23 Ape 2016. As to details on how we go about employing their services, we shall work on it once we find suitable DIs.

If you do know of someone well, please contact SS James or Judy Lim or myself at whatsapp +6594894360.

    Terence Seah

  16. We have confirmed the price per ticket for the D&D Cabaret Night 3 “The Last One night” is $40 per person (SHC member).

For a table of 10 per table, a 10% discount will be given, if registration before 6 Mar 2016 noon.

Ticket price for non-members will be announced in March,

Hurry now and register, as we need to finalise our reservations with KSL hotel very soon.

    Terence Seah

  17. Cabaret Night 3 is getting close. James SS, AndrewK and Sam Huat are at KSL Hotel now to finalise a special rate for our overnight stay. We will announce the room rate soon. You are encouraged to arrange your room partner asap. For those who intend to squeeze in an additional person to the room, please note KSL will only give 2 breakfast vouchers.

    We need some additional help.

    1. Hotel Room registration – Job is to create a list of rooms booked by members, and collect payment.
    2. D&D registration – this list will be managed by Gabriella. Table discount of 10% will be offered for registration before 6 March. We will not be able to extend the discount to late registrations.
    3. Table registration – I need someone to manage the night registration. You can have a team of helpers.
    4. Mamasan – Ladies, if you are creative, fun, love to make others happy and can manage our guest, do take up this role. I will go along your ideas.
    5. Singers – please refer to the Post on songs and singers.

If you can volunteer your help in anyway, plse raise your right hand.

    Terence Seah

  18. OK. folks. The drum is rolling. The bugle is calling. There is no turning back.

The most important thing in a dancing and singing event is the sound system. A poorly assembled sound system or a malfunction video-player kills the joy of the entire fun-seeking session, as we have had experienced several times before.

Hence, we must know exactly what we want in terms of video, audio and lighting – and the hotel will have to provide us adequately (within our budget, of course). Importantly, a rehearsal is necessary to ensure every piece of equipment functions to our specifications. We cannot leave it to trial and error on the day of the event.

I am prepared to take up this task, to speak with the hotel management and technical personnel, telling them what we need and want – so as to provide the best sight and sound entertainment for our participants.

    DC

  19. Thank you Daniel for your feedback and offer. We obviously want the best we can get for the evening. I have already committee members to look into the area of music and liaison with the hotel. As such, this role has been assigned, and I have trust they will do their best for our event.

Your offer is welcome, and I definitely will ask you to handle the music system and dancing role when we do our next event. Appreciate your putting your hands up.

    Terence Seah

  20. We have now confirm where we shall stay on Sat/Sun 23/24 April 2016. This will be the KSL hotel in JB centre. We have negotiated with the hotel for a corporate rate, as we are having our event at the KSL Ballroom.

  26. Sam Hui is one singer whom I adore and admire very much. Many of his songs reflect the down-to-earth life we are leading, and how we should live it. I have one of his favourite songs here to share. It was very popular in the early 70s. Till today, it is still popular in Karaoke places. There are English subtitles for those who do not understand Cantonese. Enjoy.

If you wish to go by bus, and cross the causeway and go by taxi or bus, and wish to have friends to jon you, do say so, so that others will know.

If you drive, and wish to have others share the cost of petrol, toll, parking, etc, please indicate too.

    Terence Seah

  28. Hi Terence,

Pls include below person in YK’s table:

    Lydia China
    Shirleen Kow
Lydia’s partner ( tentatively and Lydia will cfm in the nearest date ).

    Thanks

  29. Our theme for this year’s Cabaret 3 is The Last One Night. We have so many nights in our life, so why is this event “The Last One Night”. For many of us, at some times of our life, we have sad memories and we dont want to hold on to these dreams; we just want to say goodbye, and let it be our “Last One night”. Good memories that we know we cannot replay, we may also wish they were our Last One night too. We just let it remain in memory.

Cabaret Night 3 aims to bring these memories back to you, on
Sat 24 Apr 2016. We hope you can share your ideas and suggestions on this forum. And, if we can make it come true, we definitely will. Let’s hear from you.

    Terence Seah

  30. We have almost formed 4 round tables for Cabaret Night 3. We know some of you are eager to form your table of 10. Others are waiting for their friends to decide, and go to KSL together. Still others are waiting to find suitable transport to bring them to and fro.

I enjoyed a conversation where a member says “I dont know what to wear for Cabaret night”? Ladies, start to looking into your closet for your Cheongsam dress and high heel shoes. Maybe that hair pin, or go to your favourite hair salon in JB before the evening event.

And, some feel we should make more effort to bring in more men. We had thought of bringing in some JB DIs but todate,we have not been successful. So, if you have contacts, we will consider bring in 1 or 2 DIs from JB. We will pay for the DI services, and perhaps share them for the night.

And, if your family members and friends are not yet SHC members, you may know that SilverHairsClub has the easiest to join membership. Confirm you are over 45, let us have your contacts and that’s it. Non-members pay $50 per pax for this D&D.

Please register early so that you can enjoy the 10% discount, deadline 6 March noon.

    Terence Seah

  31. Hi Terence,

D&D payments. If you do, it is good to have a spare account eg a current account, so that you can track payments easily.

Please let me know if you can volunteer this role.

    Terence Seah

  36. The beauty of a theme event is it helps the organisers and the participants make focused preparations. SilverHairsClub members are typically idealistic, has wide ranging life experiences and have varied memories from childhood to adulthood.

Cabaret Night 3 is intended to bring to life a certain period in our era which is from the 60s to the 70s. Some of us have never been to a cabaret; and we can only remember the late nights, the hostesses who sing for a flower garland, or a fat business man wanting to entertain his clients to a night of whiskies, songs and ladies. Many categories of jobs are available in a cabaret; the bartender, the door men, the valet runner, the bouncers, the dancers, the singers and the policemen that come in once in a while to make sure all is in order. Cabarets are an insight into the underworld, the vices and the world of rolling money.

To the outside world, Cabaret Night 3 is all about Chinese cuisine dining, songs, and dancing to music of the 60s and 70s. But, inside the Cabaret, a new world repeats itself every night. And, we like to invite you to bring “The last One night” to life and reality.

Set up in a dimly lighted ballroom, with round tables for Chinese dining, we have a dance in the middle of the room. No one cares, we are all there to enjoy ourselves. But noisily in one corner of the Cabaret, a few men with cigarettes on one hand and ladies with hair, all bundled up with a hairpin through the bun, busily engaged in a game of mahjong. No one dares to talk. The guys standing around the table will be eyeing the beautiful ladies, and wondering where she gets all her money from.

At the next table, a group of ladies are playing cards. All hoping they will strike a full hand.

Sam Huat tells me not to worry, because the bouncers are around, all the time, no worries. The police wont disturbed us as we have our eyes outside the door.

    We keep dreaming; we keep planning how to make Cabaret Night 3 real and exciting. Share with us your thinking, and experience;

    Terence Seah

  37. The 10% early bird discount promotion closes now. A * is indicated against your name in the registration list. Payment details will be announced soon.

Ticket prices are still available at SGD 40 per pax (SHC member) and
SGD 50 per pax (non-SHC member). We have booked 80 pax with the KSL hotel, another 27 pax more to go, before we close the attendance.

To a night of memories, dining, singing and dancing.

    Terence Seah

  38. If you are looking at where to stay, and are considering the KSL hotel, we will announce soon the corporate rate that KSL has given us. We are looking at option with breakfast and without breakfast. This is a twin-bed room, which allows 2 or 3 persons to stay in the room. However, breakfast, towels, etc are catered for only 2 pax.

You may also consider the 3room or 4 room units at KSL. This is large and some of the units are 170 sqm. Do have a look at Agoda.com. It will be fun having a number or friends staying together for the day and night.

If you are planning to stay at other hotels, not the KSL hotel, please share the information. Your place may be more convenient, cheaper, bigger or has other exciting joints.

And, lastly, if you are looking for a room-mate, yell out loud, someone else may be looking for a room mate too.

    Terence Seah

  39. Hi hello hello EO,

Thank you for the quick update of Alex and May in the name list.

I have indicated in my earlier post “include May Woo & her hubby, Alex in Table 6”. Is there an oversight by the person doing the updating? Pls arrange them to be seated together with me, in TABLE 6.

    Thank you.
    Susan Tan

  40. KSL Resort, the venue for our Cabaret Night 3 is asking for our deposit.

Payment to: POSB Current: 951-00428-6. Please indicate your name, transaction reference, date and amount. The hotel charges us a 50% cancellation fee. So, if you cancel after 30 Mar 2016, your cancellation fee is also 50%. No replacement for early birds.

The hotel requires our minimum attendance to be 80 pax.

If you can help the committee to collect and track payments, please let me know. Help appreciated.

    Terence Seah

  41. I hope more will sign up for this mass “oversea” event. Besides the event itself, there are so many things to be done in JB. We can go on Friday evening, stay overnight and have the entire Saturday morning/afternoon to do what we want. Of course, this will be a private arrangement that shall be discussed off line. We have more than a month and nothing is impossible if we are willing.

I have yet to decide on what song(s) to sing. As I browsed through the various song sites, including YouTube, I was reminded of many nice and nostalgic Canto songs very popular in the 70s.

This is one song I like very much….

  42. HI.. I’m sending out an appeal for those who are attending, if you feel that you would like to help out in areas of games, reception duties, or bouncer role.

You may post your interest on this blog, with your email address. If you prefer some privacy, please get in touch with Terence or any of the committee members.

    My email address is lydiachinyk@gmail.com

    Cheers

  43. Calling Daniel, Sally Tan, Sue Chan, Yew Kwong, Dan Huang, Susan Tan… would u like to help out in anyway? Your names are being mentioned cos I noticed you’ve commented on this post… I am waiting for more ppl to respond on this posting.. Let’s make this the most exciting Cabaret Night …!

  44. Hi Terence,

Understand from Bobby Bok we have a new member – Stella Sheng. She is keen to join us at our same Table 4. Do include her please.

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Lydia,

As spoken with you at our last meet-up in Feb 2016, I’ll be attending this event as a patron. Lets look forward to hear from other new volunteers…

      Cheers!

  45. I missed out Bobby & Rose White .. Bobby, would u like to be one of the bouncer, and Rose, would u like to help out in the reception & games?

  46. Cabaret Night 3 committee is thinking of all ways to help male non-dancers to come to the D&D and dance on the floor. We have always tried to balance our sexes at all gatherings, including dance activities.

We are looking for a volunteer to give a 1 hour crash course in Disco rock. We believe if you concentrate, you can get your movements right on the dance floor to one of the most popular and simple dances. If you can help ladies, and of course, help the men, come on Sat afternoon. We will announce the time soon, once our program is up.

And, men, this is an opportunity to learn a dance for “The Last One night”. And, of course, Terence will be taking part, as an example. so, come along guys. Sat 23 April 2016, approx afternoon.

    Terence Seah

  47. And, for the ladies, we shall try to balance the sexes too. We have been looking out for male DIs from JB. So far, we have not been successful. We think we can pool two DIs, and share their services for the night.

If you know of JB DIs, please contact SS James, or Judy Lim. An idea of the cost of the services for the night, and their availaility on Sat 23 April 2016 at the KSL ballroom.

    Terence Seah

  48. Dear Terence Seah,

Now that SHC organizing committee has confirmed putting up nostalgic entertainment event themed The Last One Night – Cabaret Night, I am pleased to lend support to fellow SHC-ian Daniel Chan (same ancestry surname Cantonese Chan we share) by contributing an Canto-pop oldie by The Wynners called Zhi Yao Zi Gei Yat Gor or Sha La La or L-O-V-E or Rang Yi Chie Tsui Feng. I recall these favorite tunes performed by the then-teenage Canto-pop band when they were first brought in by Johhny Young Production at ex-Southron Restaurant and Nightclub in 1978, five years after they first started out as The Loosers with vocals by Pat Chan Pak Keong and his brother Nat Chan but was then replaced by five-piece band led by duo lead vocals Kenny B and Alan Tam, lead guitarist Benett Pang, drummer Anthony Chan and bassist Danny Yip and which would eventually be called The Wynners. They have started off as a long-haired, talented Canto-pop teenage band and have successfully carved their wholesome image portraying the average emotional and relational health of the average Hong Konger since. Then it was their 10th Year Anniversary Concert which they were brought in by Jasper Productions performance @then National Theater in October 1983. Surely one of the most enjoyable concert I have ever attended because they really put in their heart, soul and spirit in the live performance in the now demolished heritage site where Clemenceau Avenue lies formely with Van Kleef Aquarium stands. Shortly they performed their repertoire of golden Canto pop hits in their 15th Anniversary Concert at ec-Hall 2 of World Trade Centre in 1988, also brought in by Hushington Entertainment. The original site is now replaced by Vivo City. Their last Canto-pop repertoire of old and new hits performance here was in Singapore Indoor Stadium in May 2008. I still currently followed the talented, wholesome, dashing, well-loved, personable, charismatic Canto-pop group showmanship performance in social media U-tube music video regularly. I would be glad to share a duo number at The Last Cabaret nostalgic night if fellow SHC-ian Daniel Chan is familiar with The Canto-pop band The Wynners nostalgic yester-years pop hits too.

  49. Hi Terence,
I understand Stella hav already submitted her application as new member of SHC. Please expediate her application and update her status. Thank you. Best regards..
    Bobby

  50. Hi Terence,

I’ve just transferred a payment of S$108.00 via ANZ Bank for myself, Alicia Lim & Wong Hong Jeng. Transaction ref: IC00511070 dated 10/03/2016.

    Cheers!

  51. Sally, pls get in touch with me. I need receptionist & games co-ordinators.

Pls email to me your mobile no. As I don’t think we are allowed to list mobile nos. on the website. Thanks for your help.

  52. SS James has been liaising with KSL re selecting the menu for our Cabaret Night 3, This is a corporate set. We have decided on a sit-down dinner, served, instead of a buffet.

Dinner menu (subj to change by the hotel kitchen):
** Unity Combination of Five Varieties
** Sichuan Hot & Sour Soup with Fish Maw & Assorted Shredded Mushrooms
** Boneless Almond Chicken with Orange Sauce
** Steamed Sea Bass Hong Kong Style
** Sauteed Shrimp & Squid with Broccoli in Nest
** Braised Mushroon & Bean strip with Cabbage & Garlic
** Fried Spicy Rice with Dried Shrimp, Ham, Mushroom & Long Bean
** Chilled Longan with Sea Coconut or Chilled Sichuan Rolls

    Please enjoy the dinner.

    Terence Seah

  53. It has come to our ears that some members are uncomfortable with the theme “The Last One night”. And therefore have decided not to come. They have suggested changing the theme.

Another feedback which we received is that the Cabaret Night is not suitable for children. This is because the children may be under 18 years old. Our plan was to bring in the children so that they can enjoy the evening, a nice dinner. We had also planned for them to provide us one entertainment spot. The children will leave the ballroom when dancing proper starts.

    Terence Seah

  54. Hi Terence,
I have made Atm transfer of $86 ref no:5554 at 12:53pm to your current account for sponsoring 1 child from orphanage home and a seat for myself. Thank you.
    Bobby Bok

  55. We have liaised with KSL hotel for the hotel rooms. They have given us corporate rates.

OPTION 2: Superior (Double/twin) RM 208 Nett per room per night (without breakfast)

    * If booking through SHC, payment will be in cash and in RM only.
Bookings and payments closed on 31 Mar 2016.

    Terence Seah

  56. Hi Sally. May I have your email address pls? I would like to give u the options on what you can help out with.

Anyone out there willing to help?

    Cheers, Lydia.

  57. Organising and planning transport to JB has always been complicated because of the time expectations by members. There is also the issue of cost, as some prefer public transport which is convenient, fast and costing a few dollars. The return journey is equally complicated. Pick up points are also complicated to organise. Some members may prefer to go by their own car or taxi, so it is important to consider cost sharing, even if you go by private vehicle.

If someone likes to organise transport for the group going to JB, please give your assistance. I am sure your service will be appreciated.

We are thinking of setting up a Whatsapp group called “Going to KSL”. Members who would like to share a taxi, a van or go via public transport together can chat online. You find who you like to go with, share cost and agree on timing. Once you have found a group or friends that fit your timing, you may exit the Whatsapp group.

If you have not found a room mate for the hotel room at KSL, you can also find your room mate here. It’s up to you where you room 2 or 3 to a room.

If you whatsapp me at +65 9489 4360, I shall put you in the group. However, I wont participate in the discussion. Strictly related issues on transportation and hotels. Please go ahead.

    Terence Seah

  58. His Terence,

Please include Rina Tan and her husband – Mike Tay for the Cabaret Night event. Both of them are the SHC members.

    Thank you

    Judy

  59. Hi..Kent Chan,
Thank you for the kind words @ 10 March 10 am.
Yes..I know the Whynners – their songs were usually loud and hilarious.
Cannot remember their slow numbers, if any.
Would certainly like to hear you sing. Noticed you have yet to be “allocated” a seat. Are you joining us for dinner and dance, besides singing?

    DC

  60. Hi Daniel Chan,

They may spot a somewhat loud, hilarious, warm, dashing, boisterous image to strike instant, warm, responsive beautiful rapport with the then teenage and adult mixed local and Hong Kong baby-boomer crowd of the 70’s and 80’s, who also enjoyed contemporary Hong Kong Cantonese drama series then like The Chameleon (Bian She Long) Intimate Family Forever (Qin Qing), Da Ne Qun Ying, Tian Chan Bian, Tian Long Ke, Xao Nian Huang Fei Hong, etc. Amazingly, the talented singing duo also have a collection of tender, soft, romantic, slow, gentle, sentimental ballads, too. Just scroll down to their repertoire of Canto-pop hits in your favorite karaoke joint next time and you can easily identify them. I must say their 10th Anniversary Concert at then-National Theatre was immensely enjoyable, as lead singer Kenny B used to strike good rapport with the audience by always asking those sitting at the back to come to the front to hear them loud and clear. He did it of course when the concert started and the front seats were hardly filled up then. What strike me about their fascinating showmanship and group personality is that upon playing their last hit, they strolled down to the aisle and shook hands and hugged young and old folks who have shown appreciation by clapping their hands of applause after listening to their catchy hits repertoire, especially L-O-V-E, Sha-la-la, Pei Zhu Ta, Making It, Sunshine Of Your Love, Smoke On The Water, Qi Zin Shi Chen, Yao Shi Yo Yuan, Xiang Xe Fei Ou Ran, Xiu Xang Pah Pah, plus playing the ex-British invasion like The Tremeloes’ Silence Of Golden, Manfred Mann’ Do Wah Diddy Do, The Turtles’ She’d Rather Be With Me, The Hollies’ He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother. etc.. Their standing in a row harmonizing the above English pop hits were impressive, memorable and entertaining as they have tried to stay as close as possible to the British pop bands’ original hit sound. Sure, it would be fine if you can allocate me a seat with you and other familiar faces on the same table.

  61. No, Ken, I don’t allocate seats. I am in Table 5 and obviously, it is full.
Table 6 is still up for grab. 5 and 6 cannot be too far away.
Tell me more about your Whynner-experience when there, preferably in our mother-tongue, Cantonese.

    DC

    1. Thanks Terence.

I would be pleased to transfer $40/- to your POSB Savings Account if you can provide me a valid POSB Savings account number.. As follow-up, please advise the hassle-free, convenient way best mode of travel to reach the event venue on that evening @KSL Hotel in Johor Bahru. Of course, things would work out well if we would to travel with fellow SHC South-West bound residents registered and paid attendees as we can assemble and board Malaysia-bound buses direct from Jurong East Bus Interchange. The transit point would be at Larkin Station or other alternative stations if you can suggest one. Hope to have your contribution. Hear from you soon.

  62. Two brothers Ben Teo and Bart Teo are joining us at KSL Cabaret Night 3. They are arranging for likemind transport group, and have joined the Whatsapp “Going to JB KSL 23 Apr”.

If you wish to share, join or go together to KSL, join the group. Simply whatsapp 9489 4360.

    Terence Seah

  63. We have 10 more seats for Cabaret Night 3. Once the 8 tables are taken up, we shall put you on the waiting list.

All participants, please purchase your seat quickly by making payment to: POSB Current: 951-00428-6.

If you are unable to come, or payment not made, your seat will be given up to those on the waiting list. Early bird discounts are not applicable to those on the waiting list. No refunds will be made for withdrawal after 31 Mar 2016.

    Terence Seah

  64. Hoho haha buddies of SHC ,
Good evening , those were the days, when
In d night club, we use to play numbers hand game.. Loser will bottom up or betting $$$$. This is how we play it.. 5,10,15,20 bust.. Only two player to play.. There is another one but I don’t speak good Chinese.. It prawn. Crab fish hand game too.. Sorry on this game I don’t know, anyone know huh?? Hoho haha Cheers bro Sam huat

  65. Hi Sam,

I found a video on fish, crab, prawn. Is this the game you are referring to? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enWAsP9a0YQ.

Cabaret guests, we are thinking of setting up a tabl for card games. Obviously, we would like you to come dine, dance and have fun. At the same time, we thought of having a card game table. When you are not dancing, you can come try your luck.

  66. Going in to KSL can be easy. If each table appoint a leader they can take the train to Kranji MRT. From there catch SBS bus 170 to the Malaysian immigration and head for City Square which is next to it.
The leader will meet up with all in the same table, shop for 1 hour and catch a taxi to KSL which may cost 20 ringgit or less with 4 to a taxi.
    Dan.

  67. Terence,
Your watapps chat only have 4 names.
I will be the liaison person. Those who intend to meet at Kranji MRT can meet me at 6.00pm. I will direct you all where to meet in City Square and where to catch the taxi.. Shopping may be an issue as most are dressed to kill.
Do indicate here if you are coming?
    Dan.

  68. Correction, as the event start at 6.00pm, better to meet me at Kranji MRT at 4.30pm. From previous experience, there may be delay and congestion.
    Dan.

    1. Terence and others who are attending Cabaret Night 3,

Please confirm the spot where to meet up @Kranji MRT at about 4 or 4.30pm to board SBS Bus 170 to City Square where KSL Hotel is situated next to it. Please update me if this is so with the rest of the diners or What’s APP through my mobile 92777149. Kent Chan.

  69. Hi all/Dan,
I understand from my friend who travel quite regularly to KSL mall/city that the taxi fare from City Square/custom checkpoint to KSL hotel is about 12 ringgits, so if 4 people share 1 taxi , cost per person is only 3 ringgit or sin$1. Yes I guess if you take bus 170 from Kranji Mrt to City Square is one of the best option -cheap and fast. Driving there may face heavy traffic jam on a sat afternoon/evening. I understand if you dun mind to wait there are free shuttle bus service to KSL from City Square also. Please refer to link below.

    https://www.causewaylink.com.my/auxil/media/Announcement_S1_website.pdf

    Cheers..
    Bobby

  70. As many of us will be staying overnight in JB, we suggest you come early on Sat morning so that you can go shopping, eat, and enjoying the day by the poolside at the KSL hotel.

Guests at the KSL hotel get to visit the Dinosaur Water Theme Park free. You are encouraged to come early. We are also planning some activities on Sat afternoon.

Try not to come just in time for Cabaret night. You will be stuck in traffic and miss a whole day of fun at KSL.

Dan, your timing is too tight.

    Terence Seah

  71. Terence,
It just a suggestion, i will be happy if we can meet at 12.00pm, check in the hotel and not miss all the fun and get to dress up later and be ready for the event.
    Dan.

  72. Hi Terence,

I have transferred $152/- to your accounts being paid for Rina and Mike $40/- each, both of them are in table 6. Balance of $72/- by Lily Ho and myself at table 1.
    Transaction ref : 5703.

Thank you for organising the event.

    Judy

  73. Cabaret Night 3 is all about dancing, songs, singing, wine, food and enjoyment. Hidden behind the glittering night life and business entertaining lie a world of vices, gambling, sex and violence, many of which we can only live to remember and no longer want to be associated with today.

The dance floor is where most of us will be after an 8-course Chinese dinner with friends, guests and fellow businessmen. Singers imported from island Singapore will entertain us with songs, that have not failed to keep us coming back night after night. JB is great night entertainment.

And as we think that all the guests are on the dance floor, another corner of the cabaret gathers a group of men and women. all wishing Lady Luck is here for the night. Two tables for card games will be set up for those who do not dance. If you are game to start a table, we will reserve the first round for you.

    Terence Seah

  74. Hi Terence. Noted your last paragraph with intense anxiety. LIKE.
I am doing to the mountain top early April to do just that. But before going, I shall duly make payment to this event, just in case.

Out of Sg now. Will return Saturday to settle the $$$$..

    Regards
    DC

  75. Hoho haha morning to all buddies ,

  76. Hi EOs,

for Cabaret Nite event at $36/- each for Lilian Teo, Bessie Lam, Andrew Tan
    and myself. Pls update. Thanks

  77. Members who would like to book the KSL hotel rooms through SHC, simply indicate how many rooms you require here, on this Post.

Method of payment, in RM, will be advised at a later date. Last date for booking 31 March.

    Terence Seah

  78. We have uploaded a picture from one of our earlier Cabaret nights. The venues had been in Singapore; and for the first time, our Cabaret Night has moved north, to Johore Bahru city. We hope to give our events a change; as this time, we dont need to rush to catch the MRT by 2330 hrs. SS James has arranged for us to stay all the way until 0100 hrs.

Two thoughts strike me. In old cabaret days, after a long time of drinking, dancing, fun and entertainment, we go out for supper, look for porridge, some salted eggs, kiam chye poh, pork legs, etc. Have you been around the KSL area. Do they have such spots? recommend your joints. Some of us who cannot sleep, can go out for supper.

The thought is my recent visits to KSL shopping centre has many pedicure and menicure shops. Also, hair salons. Well, ladies, come a bit early and get yourself the look of the night. Come early on Saturday morning. I am sure you will have a great time with friends and familes.

See you all soon. Getting excited.

    Terence Seah

  79. Hi EO,
Doreen Ho has made payment $36 to yr Posb Current acct today for Cabaret Nite event. Pls update.
Kindly make reservations for 2 units Superior Double Twin Room @ RM$208 nett per room without breakfas. Thank you.

  80. Hi Terence
    I have paid $72.00 18 March 2016, 13:08, ref: 1949 to DBS/POSB 951004286, msg id: 16318D08395YU569, for Sally Tan and Irene Wong.

    Thanks – Sally

  81. Hi Terence,

I’ve just transferred $160 to your POSB current AC via iBanking, being payments for Alex Woo, May Woo, Joe Choo and Veronique.
    Transaction No. 16756267913

    Please confirm and thank you!
    Veronique

  82. Hi Terence

Sorry for the overlook, I will transfer another $4.00 for Irene.
Irene’s friend Mr Wilbur would like to attend, I will help them transfer another $50, total $54 later. Could you arrange them to sit together.

    Thanks – Sally

  83. For many businesses, the cabaret has always been one of the best places to provide night entertainment for clients and friends. No doubt, it is an expensive place for entertaining. A bottle of french brandy easily costs a few hundred dollars. For many, a bottle of Remy Martin would do just as well, for guests and friends. The committee had not thought of providing branding, whisky, rice wine or beer for this event, maybe because we hear that drinking is not good for health or there has been no request. Well, you are the guests of the cabaret, and do let us know your preference, and we shall look at how to meet your requests.

Another part of cabaret entertainment is mamasans and hostesses. Not only female hostesses, but also evailability of male companion. We have not talked about this service; although I think we are more shy to discuss this topic in public. Others felt SHC should not encourage having mamasans for our Cabaret night; afterall the some men have fallen into these vices. Perhaps, that’s why our theme is “The Last One night”.

Our committee has not given up the idea of mamasans yet. We can have one or two mamasans, complete with a few hostesses. Male hostesses also welcome. You are welcome to apply for these roles. Please contact HR at whatsapp +65 9489 4360.

    Terence Seah

  84. Today, we like to announce that Cabaret Night 3 has Ms Lily Ho, previously from the entertainment industry, has joined us as co-MC on the night of 23 April 2016. Lily partners Sam Goh who is also MC for the night. Lily is fluent is both Mandarin and English, while Sam Goh is fluent in Singlish and Malay.

Thank you Lily for joining us, and we look forward to the night.

    Terence Seah

  85. Hoho haha, morning buddies, ,

For those keen to know more about laughter yoga exercise & pai da. Please let me know early so we shall enjoy d scenario.. Say we meet at four pm under a shelter.. Hoho haha bro Sam huat

  86. Hoho haha buddies,
A very early good morning ya.
OK, for those who doesn’t like to dr into jb. I, suggest taking public transport is very convenient n damn safe.
Here, from kranjil MRT stn alight right in front d bus stop, u shall see ppls queuing for bus to jb. There re two companies, to choose. I, recommend take causeway yellow colour , pay either one sg dollar or RM 3. Keep d ticket can reuse till u reach jb check point. 110. Hi Terence
Since all of us will spend so many hours there and to make full use of the system at this event, could we request for more hours of casual or fun karaoke, of course songs must match your theme, then more people will have a chance to sing more than 1 song for the night, Irene and myself volunteer to assist in manning the system.

Any supporters for this, please comment to Terence.

    Sally

    1. Hi Sally,

Thank you for your support. Judy and committee will try our best to max the full use of the facilities at KSL ballroom. This is a large ballroom, and ideal for singing and dancing. Music makes the world go round.

      We note your request.

      Terence Seah

  111. Dear Cabaret Night 3 Organising Committee Members,

Just a gentle reminder that I have transferred S$40/- via POSB Savings Account to Current Account via ATM on Sunday 3rd April 2016 @21:06 hrs. Ref: 6765. Please acknowledge receipt and correct my status accordingly as PAID Diner for Table 6 of Cabaret Night 3 on Saturday 23rd April @KSL Hotel in Johor Bahru.

  112. A BIG “thank you” to Terence and the committee, for working tirelessly to shape up this event for the enjoyment of all of us. Heartfelt appreciation also goes to those who volunteer to help in whatever way they see fit. I shall see what I can do on the day, besides croaking and crooning.

It is not often that we get together – and so close together – for some fun. Let us enjoy while our heads and heels are still willing to oblige us. Sing and dance the night away. “The Last One Night” shall be a very memorable night for years to come.

Terence – please also ask the hotel whether they sell light snacks or finger foods. If not, we shall load ourselves with some ration for the night. It is going to be a long night. Another thing is, can we party well into the wee hours? An approved late check-out will be useful. Thanks.

  120. The Cabaret Night 3 committee visited KSL yesterday. We finalised the holding area where all our participants will be gathered and registered for the D&D,.The holding area is outside the dining area and dance floor. All guests will have a name tag, and you will be addressed by name. Please ensure your name is in the registration list. Our lucky draw will also be by name, not by number.

We also look at the seating areas, and tables., based on KSL banquet recommendations for 8 x 10 guests seated. Every table is located around the dancing floor.

We also tested the music system, the DVD player, volume and quality. All to the committee’s satisfaction.

There will be no outside food or outside liquor. So, we have no other food, other than dinner time. There will be corkage charge for wine and liquor, which we will announced later. We are woirking with KSL on beer sale with the banquet.

There are car parks for those who book hotel rooms but I forgot KSL recommendations. Meantime, if you are driving, please indicate your name and car number plate here before Fri 15 April 2016.

Lastly, KSL hotel and shopping area are great places to spend your time. Check-in time is 3pm, but come earlier and drop your lugage at the concierge. There is a swimming poor foryou to laze around on Sunday. On Sat, you can go to your hair salon.

Check-out time is 12 noon. This hotel is popular when we visited it on Sat. For those who wish to have a late check-out, please check with the hotel reception yourself. Late check-out is unlikely available, as it depends on the availability, and it is pretty full every Sat.

There is a open air food joint, directly opp the KSL hotel. Plus so many around too. Enjoy yourself.

    Terence Seah

  121. For Cabaret night 3, we have been thinking of the idea of engaging DIs for the night. We tried finding DIs from JB area but could not find anyone meeting our requirements. We also tried finding Singapore DIs but could not afford their fees.

We may have now found a solution and are now looking at inviting good dancers to provide dancing services with our dancers. We are working out the mechanism and the cost to the two dancers, likely at RM 10 per two dancing songs.

    Please keep updated.

    Terence Seah

  122. Cbaret Night 3 is now full. No further guests willl be taken.

We are now 10 days to Cabaret Night 3. The first time, we hold a D&D in JB. Every event is a learning event. We learn the workings with a top JB hotel KSL, the complications, the costs, the food, workings with the banquet and members responses and transport difficulties and ease.

This evening promises loads of singing and dancing. A nice ballroom, good lighting, great table setting. The excitment of spending time together in JB as a Club.

Look forward to meeting everybody, dressed for a Cabaret night.

On behalf of the committee, SS James (liaison with KSL), Judy Lim (Music and singing cordination), Lydia Chin (Welcome and registration), Lily Ho (co-MC), Sam Goh (MC) and Terence Seah, plus all the many helpers and sponsors in the background.

  123. The very first D+D across the causeway, and we get such an overwhelming response. Heartening indeed. Thanks again all in the committee. We have a Karaoke session on 16 April (Saturday) at Kolam Ayer CC. It will begin at 1 pm. My pleasure to invite you guys there.

    DC

  124. We are still negotiating and trying to get a better price for corkage at KSL. Beer prices are also being worked out.

Once we have the corkage price, we will let you know what is the corkage per bottle of liquor and wine, so that you can pay to the hotel.

We will also let you know the price of beer. It is likely to be bar prices. For our workings, please let us know what you intend to bring along. this will help in our planning. And how many plans t drink beer.

In case you are thinking of bringing in on the quiet some liquor or beer or wine, please note KSL will charge corkage. However, the bar lounge is just in the same hotel.

    Terence Seah

  125. To enable more dancing, two Singapore dancers have been selected and will provide DI services during our dinner and dance.

Gabriella, for seating purposes, please seat our two DIs at:
    #3 Table 4, and
    #5 Table 6.

    Terence Seah

  126. This is the first time, we have two DIs for our Cabaret Night. Thank you to the member who has helped us scout for these two DIs.

Dancing coupons will be available from Andrew Koh. Each coupon will cost RM 10, and will be for 2 dances. Please purchase your dance coupons. The coupon can be split into two dances. Please give one half of the coupon to the DI, at the beginning of each dance.

    Limited coupons will be printed.

    Have fun.

    Terence Seah

  127. Yeah, we are now 8 tables full at the Cabaret.

I had accidentally pushed Daniiel Chan to the edge of the table but we have picked him up now. Apology for the oops Daniel.

Our dancers have the correct seats too.

    Terence Seah

  128. No problem, Terence. For a moment, I thought I will share a chair with someone. Table 6 has a seat no.11, instead of 5. Yes it is a “double ace”. seat. We shall play Black Jack. Answering your question on the tipsy stuffs – I do not take hard liquor, namely brandy, whisky or vodka. A beer or two will suffice, not forgeting one for you. Cheers

    DC

  129. Cabaret Night 3 committee has decided on the top prizes for its lucky draw. This will be held between 12 midnight and 0100 hrs. We hope you will still be awake during this time, before you go out for supper across the hotel or before you drive back to Singapore.

    Getting all exciting.

    Terence Seah

  130. This is the first time we hold a D&D across the causeway. Some members may be driving home earlier and thus unable to collect the prizes. As such, for the lucky draws, the committee has decided if you win a prize, a friend of yours can collect your prize, on your behalf, if you give your lucky draw ticket with your name on it to him/her. The top prizes will be drawn between midnight and 1am.

Look forward to everybody having an enjoyable evening.

    Terence Seah

  131. Terence, I don’t know what your top prize and other prizes are.
Let’s hope it is not something that the winner will need to pay a substantial amount of tax to bring back to Singapore. For example, a 65″ 4K UHD TV.

    DC

  132. Cabaret Night 3 is our first Club overseas event; so we face many unknown challenges. When we committed with KSL, we have no idea how many members will join us; yet we took their minimum number of tables.

Our biggest concern is the cost; but this is a known element ie 8 tables fixed. But without knowing the numbers that will come, it can be a shock after we sign the dotted line with KSL hotel. Finally, the event is here; and we have a full house of 80 pax.

DanielC, to answer yourquestion, our top prizes are not going to be big; and definitely not as big as a 65 inch TV set. But, the committee has given a lot of thought into this issue.

Let’s not forget, the top prizes will be announced between 12 mn and 1am. And from members feedback, we have finetuned it to allow winners to collect the top prizes on members’ behalf, if winners show your tickets in exchange. That;s all for prizes.

    Terence Seah

  133. Now, for cockage prices at KSL “Cabaret night”.

As announced earlier, KSL will charge us corkage.

** A bottle of hard liquor, the corkage is RM 100.
** A bottle of wine, the corkage is RM 60.

If you are planning to bring a bottle of hard liquor or wine, please pay the corkage directly to KSL. If you wish to purchase liquor or wine from the hotel, please also pay directly to KSL when served.

    Terence Seah

  134. Hi Terence,
Please be informed that additional $4 are been Atm transfer ref no 6296 at 22:36 from Stella Sheng to your current making total of $40 paid for the d&d ticket. Thank you..
    Stella

  135. Hi Lydia/Terence,
As you have specifically request me for bouncer role I will accept this role for the night. Anyway we have our big brother Sam Goh who is a former policeman to back us up right. We look forward to have an enjoyable and unforgetable night of fun, dancing, singing and good food too. Cheers..
    Bobby

    1. Hi Bobby,

Thank you for the acceptance of the role of bouncer. We had been looking for a bouncer, in line with previous Cabaret nights. However, we think this is late to slot in changes to our plans, as the event is tomorrow Sat.

Therefore, we won’t have a bouncer this year. TQ. Just come and enjoy yourself.

      Terence Seah

  136. Now that Cabaret Night 3 is over, I have to apologise for not attending the event. I had a urgent business appointment which I could not cancelled. I requested the committee not to announce this so that the evening can carry on. Thank you for your attendance.

Cabaret Night 3 has been organised in JB, for the first time. I think there are pluses and minuses, have our SHC events in JB. Please give us your feedback good or bad, so we can learn from it.

    Terence Seah

  137. Let me start off by sharing that we had a smooth drive into JB that Saturday afternoon at 3.00pm. No major traffic jams with the exception of an hour long of tight security checks by our Singapore Immigration Checkpoint.

Here, we would like to record our sincere thanks to our 2 MCs, Lily & Sam – who were both very accommodating, hilarious & handled the audience well. And to all the Committee Team Members who liaised the whole event with KSL Resort in JB:- a tedious task – having to drive in & out of JB etc – a Big Thank You! Special compliments too, to our sweet Music/Song Co-ordinator – Judy Lim, who was extremely busy sorting out the songs segment for our Singers.

With various music tempo, the function room was transformed into a lively atmosphere with many of us grabbing our partners and dancing to our hearts’ delight. Before signing off, we must highlight that the 2 DIs appointed were very versatile with their dance moves, and they were both in hot pursuit! The lucky draws were conducted much earlier, and most of us stayed till 12.35am ending with a smooth drive back to Singapore.

    Cheers!

  138. “Mommy..it’s over…boohoohoo”

The first major event of the year and the first to be held across the causeway has finally come and gone. From a participant’s point of view, I must say it has been very entertaining and fulfilling.

Of course there were hiccups and hitches along the way, from the time the first name was committed on this post to the finale of the night, “Tonight Not Going Home (jin tian bu hui jia)”. What most of us can identify is what is posted on this blog. There was much anxiety, frustrations and pain the committee members have had to go through to shape up this event. The mental stress and physical strain exerted on them were tremendous. It is no joke running around in a 35C heat. Remind me of army days but we were young then.

Hence, my sincere thanks to all in the committee for making this possible.

Judy…I like your way of addressing a concern on the blog. When a member submitted a song to sing, you stood by the theme of 60s and 70s songs only, and you made an effort to verify it. You then accepted it or rejected it politely and publicly. An honest and prompt reply removes all ambiguity and uncertainty, and enables participants to move on. Excellent process management.

And bro Sam…thanks for driving us to a yummy breakfast on Sunday morning. That coffee shop brought me back to Sg 1970 – same theme as our Cabaret Night. Nostalgic.

    Well done, all !

    DC

  139. I wish to thanks our founder – Terence Seaham who initiated the idea to hold the D/D in JB, outside of Singapore. This was never done before as all our previous function were held in Singapore.

It was a risk but the idea was attractive as members in addition to attending the function can stay overnight and enjoy the hotel facilities KSL a 5 star hotel was chosen as it also provides shopping mall, a favourite past time of Singaporeans.

Being the committee, I’ve learnt a lot in working in a team, negotiating with the hotel, requesting for additional equipment, testing the system, handling members numerous requests and being firm when the request do not fit into the plan.

Overall, I am happy with all the support from all who attended the function without whom the function would not be success.

Thanks to Sue and Daniel for their kind words and also to all who participate in the singing.

Looking forward to the next function to be organised by another team in 2017.

    Cheers

    Judy

  140. Cabaret Night 3 has come to an end; the event held in JB about 2 weeks ago. Thank you for your feedback, and to those who came and participated, you gave a good indication as to whether future large scale activities can be held in JB.

The committee has a feedback meeting this week, and we shall enjoy short memories of Cabaret Night 3. Thank you everybody.

    Terence Seah

  141. The committee had a debrief meeting yesterday to review our activity and venue across the causeway.

I think there are some difficulties and inconvenience of transport from Singapore to JB. Public transport was considered cheap although the weather can be discouraging.

Staying at KSL was an option, and members have the option to stay at other hotels or return back to Singapore on the same night. We are likely to stay at the KSL hotel, if we hold an overnight event.

Holding an event at KSL hotel was 50:50, with some hiccups. I would think that if there are no other recommendations, KSL may be value, compared to holding similar events in JB. However, we can leave the choice of venue to the EO. If I were to organise a similar event in JB, and from feedback, I would consider KSL again.

Food at KSL had little negatives, good portions. The next EO may like to try the international menu.

We learn the audio visual experience. Unfortunately, we could not get a live band or a KOK equipment. But, the DVD player served us well, and while there were some hiccups, I think we have plenty of dancing. Although we try to slot in more singing slots, more members would have love to sing.

At SGD 40, this budget makes the event a loss. We tried the early bird discount, which increase the loss. For the next EO, I would say the early bird discount was a good experience. This is risk and adventure to the next EO and committee.

Hotel AV equipment rental was uncharted expenses. We also need to provide for tips to the ballroom staff.

The committee which comprises SS James, Judy Lim, Lydia Chin, Sam Goh, Lily Ho and Andrew Koh put in a lot of time and effort in making the event a success. Time to and fro the venue if we hold another event in JB.

If you like to EO a similar event in JB, share your thoughts.

    Terence Seah
