SHC Annual Dinner & Dance – likely 4 Apr 2009

Our 3rd Annual dinner & Dance is planned to run in Mar 2009.  Nothing has been decided yet.  We have not identified the Event Organiser, the venue or even the dates.

If you are eager and cannot get your hands itchy to be the Event Organiser, please raise your hands.  We can let you decide on the program, the committee and the theme.  It’s all up to the EO to dream.  Only two things that the EO needs to clear with me – the place and cost.  The place must be conveniently accessible by public transport, and the cost must be more than reasonable.

To read about last year’s D&D, click here.

All to all SHCians, you are free to offer suggestions and ideas.  Final decision goes to the EO.  So, let’s get started, we have three months.

  1. Hi Terence,

    I suggest the following

    1. PLACE: CIVIL SERVICE CLUB, TESSENSOHN ROAD, well connected by both MRT and bus services. The main hall can accommodate 350 persons with dance floor. It also has 188 covered car park lots.

    2. COST: S$45/- per person.

    http://www.streetdb.com/singapore-street-directory-RECREATION-p217664-CIVIL-SERVICE-CLUB-(TESSENSOHN-CLUB).htm

    3. Others: If possible, I will try to get a live band to play.

    4. SHC TALENT SHOW: If members are keen, I suggest that members will be given an opportunity to showcase their talents not exceeding 3 minutes per talent in any area like dance, singing, magic, play, comedy, story-telling, cat-walking etc.

If many members want to participate, EO will select the members and decision will be final.

    Bus Services:
    BUS STOP in Balestier Road – 21, 125, 130, 139, 145, 648

    BUS STOP in Serangoon Raod – 21, 23, 64, 65, 66, 67, 125, 130, 139, 147, 857
    MRT:
Take the NE line and stop at Farrer Park MRT Station. Use Exit B. Tessensohn Clubhouse is just 5 minutes walk down the road.

  2. Hi Francis,

Thank you for the suggestion. I shall wait for other suggestions in the meantime. Is the $45 per person for the buffet dinner?

Anyone going to the clubhouse this week, plse let me know as I like to look at the place.

Now, I am looking for the EO to raise his/her hand.

    Terence Seah

  3. Hi Terence,

Now I am thinking of organising the event myself with the help of some SHCians . I raise my hand for EO. Now it is for you to decide.

    Francis

  4. Hi Terence & Francis

I would love to attend the D&D and hope that the event date will be held on either 21st or 28th March as I will be going to Hong Kong for performance from 9th to 15th March. If due to circumstances you’re unable to accomodate to my request it’s ok, pls go ahead with your plans.

    Tks & Rgds
    Hamidah

  5. Hi Hamidah,

So sweet of you to raise this alert. In this case, we should try to fix the D&D on 21 or 28th March; just to make sure that you cannot come. We should decide within the next week or two. Have fun.

  6. Hi Francis/Terence,
Don’t recalled so cheap leh.. I think is $45/hr for just the function rooms only. They have changed their policy? Need to end activities by 11pm I was told. I think we had some CSC members here, so is better to request them to check, just in case, there is discount given also lor.. Dolly

  7. Hi Terence,

The badminton gang is having their weekly fix this Sunday.
You may like to contact contact KK Loh (organiser) if he can get the admin staff to open the the event hall.

I’ll not be there as I’ll be recuperating from my eye
    operation.

Btw, no foto was taken yesterday as mostly the players are
    publicity shy.

    rgds,
    james

  8. Dear Terence

You mentioned that you will try to fix the date either 21st or 28th, then why you want to make sure that “I CANNOT COME” huh??? (see yr sentence)Lu mai hor wah lai huh, bei yau kin..ching kor lian, wah keksim liao lor haha.

Tks a lot anyway for your response & much appreciated

    Hamidah

  9. Hamidah, it’s simple.

If the date can be changed, you too can be chained….to a suave handsome beau who will danz you thru the stretch of Tessensohn Rd (assuming the D&D will be held at the CSC), close enough for you to hear the pom-cha-pom coming from the dance floor inside as you bomb yrself out with this one guy……………

  10. Hi Tim

Alamak brother you said I can be CHAINED instead of CHANGED, I kena tied up already apa macam want to pom cha pom with you hee..hee. Terence said make sure I cannot come & if I come you want to chain me susah lah haha. Ok lah lets see if we can hv the opportunity to joget2 or pom cha cha together thru the stretch of Tessensohn Rd on D&D nite.

  11. Haha Hamidah, if you protest too much, instaed of chaining you to a handsome beau Sengh will chain you to a magnolia tricycle. Then we’ll get to see a belle ringing the bell and ice cream she sells as we all laugh like hell……

Btw, Sengh is offering early birds 2 scoops of ice cream presumably with you in mind and that way, you cant say that you’re kept away from working out a sweat on the dance floor as you still sweat selling ice cream………

  12. Here is update on the venue for the D&D. Over the next two days, we shall evaluate two possible locations. One at CSC Tessensohn and the other at Furama RiverFront.

My key consideration is cost and accessibility. Accessibility looks like a non-issue. Now, for cost. I would love to see a cost of no more than $30 nett. But, then everybody tells me I am dreaming again. While I do agree that Singapore costs are high, a high per pax cost tends to reduce member participation.

Guys and gals, we want to have a memorable D&D. Think abnormally. Maybe something will crop up. I need your help for more ideas.

    Terence Seah

  13. Hi Terence,

“Guys and gals, we want to have a memorable D&D. Think abnormally. Maybe something will crop up”

Hm hm, I have an abnormal idea. Guys and gals, do not laugh.

Since it is annual function, why do not we have crowning of MR SHC 2009 & MS SHC 2009?

The persons may be selected only by the SHCians, attending the party. MR SHC 2009 and MS SHC 2009 must also be attending the party and must be SHCians.

No need for the guys to come in one piece suits and girls to come in two-piece suits.

The persons may be selected on the basis of one or more of the following

    1. Outward beauty; Handsome, pretty, poise, confidence, style of dressing etc
    2. Inward beauty: Cheerfulness, friendliness, kindness etc
    3. Contribution to SHC: Promoting any activities among the members like cycling, walking, dancing etc
    4. Organising skill in events
    5. Any other qualities not mentioned above.

I am sure it will create enough interest and suspense among members in the party to know the lucky persons.

If enough response from members is there, crowning will be an annual feature.

    Does it sound wonderful?

    Francis

  14. The Annual dinner and dance has always been successful event, right from the first D&D. Francis is confirmed as the Event Organiser. He will be working out a committee, and I can only assure him, this can only mean headaches.

    So, I wish him fun.

    Terence Seah

  15. Hi Francis

Congratulations for being 2009 D&D EO. Don’t worry abt headaches, with so many energetic, supportive & sporting SHCians around plus Terence’s backing, I’m sure the event will be an enjoyable & memorable one. Just standy more panadols or Ponstan which is much more stronger ha.ha. I will definitely support by attending the D&D if I’m in town.

    Cheers!
    Hamidah

  16. Hi Hamidah

    Thanks for your supporting words.

I know you are very popular in SHC. I feel you may be one of the strong contenders for MS SHC 2009. If selection by popular vote, you may be crowned. It will be a pleasant surprise for you. Am I right?

    Francis

  17. The Annual D&D is usually seen as the SHC anchor event, mammoth in scale and organisation. As I understand it, the EO needs a committee to work with and one he can work with. Otherwise, the poor EO will get so shagged out long before he gets to shag it out on that grand nite……….

  18. Hi Francis
Me & Nor popular in SHC bcos not many Malay members, so easy for others to notice us especially when both of us are the gila2 & chatty type. Sorry lah I’m only 10mth old in SHC & not eligible for Ms SHC 2009 cos not all the criteria or requirement fits me haha. There are many more other eligible & strong contenders in SHC, pls look around. I agreed with Tim that you got to form committee to assist you..get Terence advise/guidance on this matter. Wish u all the best in yr new role as 2009 D&D EO

  19. Hi SHCians,

The committee is being formed. Once formed, I will discuss with Terence. Hopefully, the committee will be announced next week.

I know there are guys and ladies who have a lot of experience in organizing big events like this.

There are also members, who have ideas (normal or abnormal as Terence calls). Let them be funny, creative and imaginative. Fun is the main thing; everybody is looking in a big party. Am I correct?

The idea may be for the item already planned like the basis for selecting MR SHC & MS SHC 2009 or it may be an idea for a new item to be included.

I request all the guys and ladies to share your ideas and thoughts with me through my email (francisemail@yahoo.com). The ideas or thoughts may be your own, what you had observed in other parties, you read about it, you heard about it, come across in internet in the forms of articles, pictures, videos or in any other form.

Every idea and thought will be put before the committee when there is a meeting. So keep sending your ideas and thoughts to my email address till the day of the big event. If there are sponsors for bright ideas, the persons will walk away with prizes in the event. Any sponsors for guys and ladies with bright ideas?

I would like to know your feedback, comments (good and not so good) and suggestions through my above email address.

I need the help of each and every member to make the event a big success.

    Francis

  20. Hi Francis & Terence,
Yup! I agree with Terence that if cost per pax is $30 – $35, more participation. If $45, its a bit pricey lor. Also got to see the quality of food, amenities, facilities, etc…

Btw, I dont quite like Civil Service Club – the area is not accessible by MRT, etc.. Prefer Furama Riverfront or Merchant Court. These locations are more accessible via buses or MRT. Maybe can get a fren of mine who is a Sale Mgr @ MC to give a quote for a grp of 100 paxs for Mar D&D.

    For yr consideration. Regards

    Pearlynn

  21. Hi Pearlynn,

Thank you for your suggestion. Two places have been suggested todate. As Francis is the EO, please let him know of the suggested venue and price quote asap.

By the way, would you be keen to join the D&D committee? I think you are full of good ideas.

    Terence Seah

  22. For the 2009 Dinner & Dance, we would be finalising the venue soon. The date is likely to be a Saturday in March or early April. Once the date, venue and cost are decided, I shall leave the event to the Event Organiser and his team.

Meantime, we need a team of people to work with Francis. The committee would include bouncers, ticket reservations, program organisers and icebreakers organisers, singers, decorators, prizes, food managers and friendly smiling hosts, etc. I leave Francis to work out the task; but meantime, please raise your hand if you like to join Francis in organising this year’s D&D.

  23. I had a discussion with Francis today, and would like to update you on the progress.

We have more or less zoom in on the date of Sat 4 April 2009. Two places have been identified, and there are the CSC Tessensohn and Furama Riverfront. We will decide on the venue within the 1st week of Jan 2009. The price per person is likely to be between 45 and 50 dollars.

Both places would be able to cater to our numbers, and we are targetting 100 pax. There will be a buffet spread. The details would be left to the committee, which should be formed pretty soon. Francis is very excited about organising next years D&D; and cannot wait to put his hands on this activity with his team.

  24. Christina and Veronica.
This is regarding the Monthly Walks. Your comments box was closed, so I had to resort to using this site to write.
I noticed the walk in April is on the 4th, which is also the “zoomed in” date for the Annual D n D. So, there will be a clash of activities, am I right?

  25. Francis,
If the price is $45 – 50 per pax. I wld foresee lower participation in view of the economic crisis, many are affected in some ways or others. Hope the Comittee can look into achieving a better rate for this yr D&D.

    For yr kind consideration.
