SHC monthly gathering – Sun, 15 Mar 2009

For planning purposes, the March monthly gathering will likely be held as follows:

  • Venue:  Somewhere in Little India Civil Sports club @ Tessensohn Road  Likely to be changed again.
  • Date:  Likely Sun 15 Mar 2009.
  • Time:  1500  – 1900 hrs.
  • Entrance:  Free, except if buffet and drinks needed.
  • Dress code:  As you would wear on a Sunday.
  • Event Organiser:  Will be announced at a later date.

We have not had a Sunday monthly gathering for many moons.  To cater to those who have been missing during the weekday gatherings, this event will be held on a Sunday.  It will revolve around getting to know one another, activities with a pool view and plenty of fresh air.  If organised properly, there will be a sound system, with DVD player, music and amplifier.  Enough seating for everbody, to chat.  Focus will be new and old members.  For those who have no lunch, the thinking is to have a little buffet or a BBQ.  And, if you love to sing, I think there are opportunities too.  Now, all these thinking is still at thinking stage.

For new members, and old members, please keep this date.  Details will be available after the Feb monthly gathering.

Meantime, I like to start to look out for a number of SHCians to help make this event fun.  If you are fun, not very serious, always with a smile, colourful and helpful.  One of my philosophies is "A little disorganisation" is fun.  It’s fun to be a SHCian.  Please raise your hand.

  1. Hi Terence

I endorse your this idea. Please register my name.

Since it’s going be held in Little India, let dress Indianish.

  2. Terence

Have you been to little India on a Sunday? It is like in Chennai on market day.

  3. BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH….hahaaa
thats 15th March, in Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar play.

Anyway, that is a sound idea, literally.
I volunteer to help in managing the sound system. I was a technical officer in the Broadcast arena for more than 20 years – very familiar with the various video and audio formats……and associated hardware/connections.

  4. Hi Terrence,

I agree with Tian Soo. It is not advisable to have the gathering at Little India on a Sunday as it will be crowded yup like Chennai….I remembered I went to this Food Centre, wow! which looks like an exclusive Japanese Restaurant on the outside but it is a foodcourt, basically selling all Japanese products (as in Japanese meals). This is very near Little India though and it is at Paradiz Centre, wonder if you all have been there b4? Nice ambience and privacy…at any point, pls include me and if I can be of help, eg. Games???

    Regards,

    Anne

  5. Hi Daniel Chan #04,

I am glad to know that you have more than 20 years experience in various video and audio formats and associated hardware/connections. I am the Event Organiser for Third SHC Dinner and Dance Nite to be held on 4th April 2009 at Hotel Furama Riverfront.

Our committee has been looking for a member, having experience both in video and audio formats. I have the feeling that you are the right person. I would like to discuss further with you in this connection. You may contact me by my email address; francisemail@yahoo.com.

  6. i am not sure what about little india we like on sunday, hopefully not the crowd and jam, anyhow if it is just indian food we are interested, then simply cater the food from one of them, one that serves on banana leaves. do look into parking problem and space. better go for a holiday eve than sunday.

  7. Sunday @ Little India is no experience anyone shd miss. There, you can pinch people’s backside and they dont know who, and vice versa. If you throw a stone high up and infront, it will sure hit a head (or a turban if Sengh is there) and all you get is an “aiyoh” and not a scolding And if you pasang in hide-n-seek, you will pasang forever. It’s so crowded that you can get away from doing almost anything.

The EO will be so blessed with planning so many games & activities that all SHCains will migrate to live there. Dont bet on the STourismBoard not copying the idea from us and make it into a regular event.

So still any lingering dount why not Sunday @ Little India?

  8. For our Sun 15 March monthly gathering, I am looking for the Event Organiser. Feel free to raise your hand.

  9. On Sun, 15 Mar 2009, we will have our monthly gathering. Unfortunately, I made a buboo. The place will be the Civil Service Sports Club @ Tessensohn, time 1500 hrs to 1900 hrs. The closest MRT is not Little India but Farrer Park MRT. This goes to show how knowledgeable I am of Singapore.

I was hoping not to say anything until after the Feb 25 monthly gathering. Aiyah, but just can’t resist.

DanielC, the location shall be a cosy and shaded place, besides the swimming pool. Few swimmers at that time, and we have that place to ourselves. Well, must thank you for helping in managing the sound system. I heard the place will have speakers, a DVD player, microphones, and we can have singing. I need your help here, so please keep this date available.

For others thinking of coming, we shall keep this Sunday afternoon relaxing. You can come, dressed in Indian clothes as recommended by Yew Kwong. If you play badminton with KK Loh or DanH, come as you are, in your sports gear.

I hope to give this event an open-air fun afternoon outing. Am planning to ask the local caterer to put up a small afternoon tea set. Enough information for now, and we will talk more about this event after the Feb gathering.

  10. Hi Terence,

Since you’re planning so many events for this gathering, with
food thrown in as well, how much does each one of us got
to pay? It’s not nice if it has to come from your pocket
    everytime.

  11. Hi Terence,

Janet Chan and I will be there. And if music is available, she will share her Beautiful Sunday with all.

  12. This March gathering is getting exciting. We are unable to secure the place at Civil Service Sports Club @ Tessensohn Road. This is because of the limit on the number of pax allowed.

The next place, in mind, is Hans Cafe @ Upper Pickering Road. We will confirm next Tuesday. Most other details remain.

  13. Hi SHC members,

CSC’s not so near Little India actually and for those who drive the car-park is only $2.50 per entry.

For those who wants to play badminton, please come at 11am and not 1500 lest you will be disappointed ie: unless the venue is @ CSC.
