  1. Hi Terence,
Hope you do not mind my borrowing your post to relay the fol message:

I have some Kumquat Marmalade to deliver to Members who ordered them on the 2010 Fleamart post. The marmalade should arrive fm Aus within the next few days. After that, I will endeavour to contact all members who are on the order list, by pte e-mail/phone, to arrange for delivery. IF I should fail to reach you by the end of Nov., kindly write me a note at hc8913@yahoo.com
    Thanks
    HC

  2. Anyone interested in visiting(anything less than 2 weeks), staying as in 2 weeks to a month, starting/partnering in small business, volunteering, leading small tour groups to Yunnan, Hainan or Fujian(in this order in terms of more frequent to less frequent), even going for personal matters, email me.

  3. Take away Yew Kwong and Dan-H and the SHC equation wont be a perfect 10. They are among the early members and are still active in organising activities, and in the case of YK, manage the website as well.

“Jack of all trades but master of none”?.

Dan-H, dont be so sad lah. Perk up. Be even more ambitious. Try to be the jack of drakes first and then, the master of nuns from Ermei Shan.

Then we join forces. As I am already the master of monkeys and their offsprings the key-monks, we shall take on terrorists in year 2011 with my key-monks and monkeys shelling them with nans baked by yr Ermei nuns.

    Btw, where is Er-gu?

    Heeee……………….

  4. I asked Dan-H where is Er-gu but R2D2 showed up, blowing the bugle, strumming his urhu and reciting in Urdu.

Me better go sleep liao. Will cover my head with 10 blankets and hide my face under 20 pillow in case vampires turn up next……scary, man !

  5. Hi DanielK,

Good of you to offer your contact so that members can seek your assistance, esepcially with JB issues.

I look forward to more participation. Let’s try to build a list.

  6. Very the aslamak, man.

My comment #9 was to have appeared between 2 other comments in this thread which have been removed and moved to the “Living, Love, Filial” thread as its #1 and #2.

My #9 now serves no purpose.

  7. Hi Terence.

#3, I was in a playful mood, sorry!

Most key holders may not want to be identified but rather feels that if their contribution is of any worth a certain forms of recognition should be in place.

It is better that you as the chief should sound them out and accord them some form of appreciation as an encouragement for them to continue putting in more effort, time and energy to organize activities for fellow member.

    Dan

  8. Dan-H, I agree with you and will take it 1 step further.

2010 is nearing its end soon. It’s apt and opportune if Terence were to acknowledge those who have made things happened in these months. Something well-said and said well will go a long way to keep them coming back to give more. And more unstintingly.

  9. Hi Terence,

May I add something here, please?

    U said :
“If there is something that you like to be known for”

    My comments:
It is rather diffcult to say “what we would like to be known for”. Unless it is a very specific skillset, the rest would be generic.

I tend to agree with Tim #14.

    My 2 cents worth.

    LC.

  10. Hi Tim, Lydia, Dan,

In past years, many EOs have done an excellent job in creating and organising events which they love doing. Here, I am trying to establish who are willing, and I mean willing, to continue being known for certain roles which they would like fellow members to call them for. This explains the reason why I generally prefer guys and gals to raise their hands.

In short, raise your hands, if you would like to organise certain activities or events, for members on an ongoing basis.

In short, raise your hands if you would like to be contacted for certain specialised knowledge or hobbies or skills.

I have to be honest that I am not very good at appointing anyone for certain roles or organsing particular events. Always prefer the ‘Hands up” approach. Perhaps, this explains why many events are successful, and organised with vigour and dedication.

This is what this listing is all about. At some stage, even dedicated leaders and organisers drop out. So, raise your hands, if you would like to be leading a certain event, hobbhy, skill, business skill set, etc. Let’s try it first.

  11. Hi terence,

Got your drift but the idea of key-holders impose a certain degree of pressure on the wannabes. Perhaps you can come up with a better term.

So far we depended on a select few spurt of inspiration to organize activities or events. Would it be better to gather a meeting to forecast events for the whole year and appoint potential EOs for the various events.

    Dan

  12. Dan, it is reli not so ez 4 SHC 2 plan ahead any program especially for whole yr due 2 factors, e.g. no venue, high cost hence lacks attendees, event not so popular thus disappeared mid-way, EO dropped out suddenly n no further follow-up on events responsible.

I m in favor of d current way SHC’s planning in view of events/programs. Anybody 1 2 plans anything or sharing interest, they will definitely take d initiative 2 come 4ward 2 organise.

An ahead schedule of events with so called appointed EOs seem like a chore 2 me rather den voluntary action. I wuld felt this way myself.

Being a pioneer n having organise numerous activities b4, I noe dat I will only be most willing 2 volunteer provided dat I m absolutely sure dat I hv d ample time n interest as I m sure dat I can’t commit so many moons ahead.

    My 7cts worth… Cheers.. Dolly

  13. No worries Dolly, just a suggestion. Glad that you have spell out the pro and con. Since this is the way it run, we shall stick to it.

Let’s sit back and hope that for next year we will have more and better activities planned and organize by fellow member. Terence is even game for organised chao!

    Dan

  14. Hmm, Terence is even game for organised chaos. I sense a meaning in it.

Dan, you may have a point. Most of us have either worked in a company or an organisation before. And, being Singaporeans, we tend to be very organised and detailed. I guess this is a good triat in all of us.

Sometimes, you see I encourage a bit of disorganisation in our club activities. Well, it does not mean that the EO and his/her team need not plan. It’s more for members to take our activities with a good heart and lattitude. That said, it seems that all EOs and event cordinators prefer to run their activities to the minute details.

To summarize my response, I would encourage you to keep your suggestion alive. Perhaps, you can gather a few potential EOs, do some brain-storming and create a list of activities for 2011.

Meantime, this post is not about organising activities. It is more about encouraging SHCians with talents, experience, hopes and desires to share with us what they would like to share with fellow members.

We will definitely put in a lot more effort to support members who have other SilverHairs in mind. So, tell us what you would like to be known for. Have fun.

  15. Thank you Lydia-C @315. It’s good to agree with me; it brings a glee.

Terence @#16, most EOs/coordinators have been excellent and all EOs/coordinators hv 1 thing in common – they are volunteers, motivated by none than a desire to offer snthg for SHCians to participate and enjoy.

For this reason, if their contributions are acknowledged and are given recognition at the end of the year in a Year-Roundup, it will certainly do a lot of good to their morale. They didnt ask for it but they do deserve it.

#20 “……we tend to be very organised and detailed. I guess this is a good triat (sic)……..I encourage a bit of disorganisation…..It’s more for members to take our activities with a good heart and lattitude (sic).”

You arent quite yrself……smthg is amiss?

With so much numbers like 369 being thrown around, are you thinking of joining a triad and wish to do a trial first?

Of cos not….it’s an indelible trait in us that we wont become baddies. Not at our age definitely. We hv enough latitude in our attitude to do a lot more, such as you personally organise the first activity in 2011, say a walk on the causeway without entering either country. You wont walk alone, I will join you………..
