Chap Goh Mei (YuanXiaoJie) or Lantern Festival

The 15th day marks the first night of the full moon and also the end of Chinese New Year celebration.  It is also known as Lantern Festival Day.  Another reunion dinner for us to celebrate, a customary to have special sweet dumplings called YuanXiao also called TangYuan made of glutinous rice flour stuffed with sugar fillings, symbolizing a family unity and wholeness.

This festive is about rejoicing and cultivating positive relationship between people – friends and families.  Another legend associates with higher beings ‘Ruler of Heaven’ responsible for good fortune, bestowing wealth and good luck.

To some, Chap Goh Mei is known as the Chinese Valentine’s Day – coz long time ago it was the only day that young maidens were allowed to dress up, stroll on the street and went to temples to pray, wishing to bestow a suitable match.  Such believes are still practice to this day…

  1. Yes, today also mark as Eastern Valentine Day… and by 2359hrs today, officially Lunar New Year is over liao. So, let’s all enjoy for the final loh hei hoping to toss for a healthy and good year ahead… Cheers.. DollyL
