Renovation contractor

Just wondering if anyone has had a good experience with a renovation contractor.  I need some small jobs done to the kitchen and toilets and am thinking maybe it’s time to look into them.  No fancy nest.  Just an HDB flat.

  1. Hi Joy, I use Dennis LIM for my toilet about S$1,500. He re-decorated an apartment for S$70,000. Minimum hazzle and careful person contactable at 90042376. Good luck.

  2. Hi Joy,
I know of a contractor from a very seasoned and professional company. His name is Ron Liew. Hp : 90080700. It is better to get a couple of quotes. Just let him know that he has been referred by Richard Lim.

  3. Comment #1 : Dennis LIM ….. for S$70,000.

Comment #3 : Ron Liew ….. referred by Richard Lim.

Comment #1 looks more an advertisment than a referral compared to Comment #3. We cant conclude a particular contractor good or not by the value of the project he had unertaken. More appropriately, we should use factors like the quality of work, reputation, etc as measures.

I had a former neighbor who had renovated his toilet for $15,000, using granite slabs for the wall and floor compared with mine of $700 with ceramic tiles. Can we conclude that contractor is good? I found out later from him that he did a bad job because the flooring leaked.

No offence but just difference in opinion.

Floor Leaking is a indeed a very SERIOUS problem as the cost has to be shared by the lower floor neighbour too.

Imagine, drops of water leaking on to your newly renovated kitchen ceiling or worse still your bedroom ceiling leaving ugly water stain marks and paint peeling on its surface.

This shows that YK’s neigbour unscrupulous contractor although quoting a hefty price for the granite and at the same time he was trying to CUT cost by :-

    (i) using less water proofing materials

(ii) may be using poorer quality materials

    (iii)and less skilful workmen.

So the moral of the story is

HIGH PRICING is NOT necessarily equal to HIGH QUALITY work.

  5. Dear Joy

I had done freelance interior designing before and had dealt with different contractors. You might want to get a quote from this contractor that I know of. He had been very reliable (when he said that he would finish the job by a certain date, he usually finishes 1 or 2 days ahead of time). He is also professional and reasonable in price because he have a regular team of workers and personally supervise each project. He renovated my home 2 years ago and till this day, whenever I have a need (no matter how irrelevant like air-con servicing) I can still call on him and he will send someone over to do the job at cost. His name is : Ng Yow Cheng hp.97559933 from Design & Build in AMK. You can tell him that I referred you.
