{"id":14177,"date":"2014-04-19T13:46:27","date_gmt":"2014-04-19T05:46:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/silverhairsclub.com\/?p=14177"},"modified":"2014-04-30T11:27:55","modified_gmt":"2014-04-30T03:27:55","slug":"monthlywalk-10th-may-off-the-beaten-walk-venture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/silverhairsclub.com\/?p=14177","title":{"rendered":"MonthlyWalk: 10th May, Off the Beaten Walk venture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(This trip also in response to the request of \u201cLet\u2019s venture out of Singapore, perhaps to Johor?!\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>There have been much interest going to Pengerang especially since In late 2011 news about the Malaysian government&#8217;s plans to build petrochemical projects there and,<br \/>\nin Feb 2014, a Feng\u00a0 Shui expert has selected Pengerang for its \u201cgood Feng Shui\u201d and to which graves from the new Chinese gravesite in Bukit Gelugor, Johor will be relocated here!<\/p>\n<p>Before this wonderful place is no more\u2026. become less idyllic, with an increase in traffic both human and vehicles &#8211; lorries \u2026<br \/>\nCOME, join us\u00a0 in this \u201craw\u201d venture ie., sans prior recce, so somewhat disorganized\u2026\u00a0 bear with us \u2026.\u00a0\u00a0 :D\u00a0\u00a0 :D<\/p>\n<p>On the way one will enjoy lovely scenery of uncut grasses waving on either sides (sign of \u2018welcome\u2019\u00a0 hehe)\u00a0 coconuts trees swaying\u00a0 with the wind;\u00a0 the lovely kampong charm; the peaceful surrounding devoid of tall buildings! The lack of urban noises, if one craved\u00a0 for open spaces<\/p>\n<p>Sungai Rengit the\u00a0 town in Pengerang located south-eastern tip of Johor is dotted with a dozen seafood\u00a0 restaurants, all with local Spiny Lobsters as their main draw!<\/p>\n<p>The favourable currency exchange rates for Singapore dollar meant we will eat\u00a0 like &#8216;royalty&#8217; there.<\/p>\n<p>Pengerang was also the site of a major WW2-era British coastal battery &#8212; Malayan WWII history, where the British troops\u00a0 readied their defences in preparation for a Japanese attack via Singapore!<\/p>\n<p>Unlike other groups, I prefer to go with the bumboat instead of coach!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 :D\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 :D<\/p>\n<p>NOTE:\u00a0 Time &amp; cost \u2013 are estimates only and to be paid by each participant.<\/p>\n<p>This trip is subject to availabilities &amp; weather condition.<\/p>\n<p>The day&#8217;s adventure shall start from our Changi\u00a0 Village.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 :D<\/p>\n<p>ECs:\u00a0 Christina Chan &amp; Azhari Cuttilan<br \/>\nDate:\u00a0 Saturday, 10th May 2014\u00a0 (ie., 2nd Saturday)<br \/>\nStart Time:\u00a0 8.15am sharp.<br \/>\nMeeting Point:<br \/>\nChangi Point Ferry terminal, gather at the back to \u2018Mark\u2019 attendance (do not go down to the ferry departure lobby).<\/p>\n<p>LOGISTICs purpose \u2013<br \/>\nGUARANTEE OF SEAT\/RESERVATION ***** &#8211;\u00a0 Deposit S$20 with registration to POSB Acct No.: 542-107-561<br \/>\nby Tuesday 29th April 2014.<br \/>\nPlease provide name &amp; time of deposit for verification purposes.<\/p>\n<p>Deposit will be refunded either on board bumboat or during lunch.<br \/>\n\u201cNo show\u201d = No refund of deposit, which will be taken to defray cost for missing seats in bumboat and taxi or registered participant get a replacement.<\/p>\n<p>Reservations will be considered in sets of 12, SHC members shall be given priority.<br \/>\nInitial target:\u00a0 24pax.<br \/>\nAdditional will be placed on wait list, if insufficient no. of pax to fill another bumboat, you may choose to pay\/share for the missing seats to make up the bumboat operators\u2019 requirement.<\/p>\n<p>The prerogatives of the Walk Team shall take precedence.<\/p>\n<p>HIGHLIGHTS of the trip \u2013<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Visit Ostrich Farm, admission charge RM$15 \u2013 ostrich satay, omelettes\u2026 yum, yum<br \/>\n2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Walk around town and\/or to the lovely beach.<br \/>\n3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 a sumptuous seafood lunch (must have lobsters!, need to place orders.)<br \/>\n4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 hopefully, we can find the trail to Pengarang Battery \u2013 last heard trail was covered\u00a0 by nature.<br \/>\n5)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 3pm \u2013 head back to the jetty by taxi.<br \/>\n6)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 4pm \u2013 back in Singapore soil!<\/p>\n<p>IMPORTANT! Participant to note:<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 BRING YOUR PASSPORTS.\u00a0 PASSPORTS MUST BE VALID AT LEAST 6 MONTHS!<br \/>\n2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bring mosquitoes repellent, umbrella, sun block, cap, water bottles, wear comfortable\u00a0 shoes.<br \/>\n3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bumboat : one way trip S$12.00.\u00a0 bumboat operator will only leave if the capacity of 12 passengers is filled OR pay for the missing passengers\/seats.<br \/>\n4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 At Singapore Passengers Departure Lobby &#8211; required to submit individual passports for custom registration.<br \/>\n5)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Travel time:\u00a0 Approx 45 minutes\/1 hour to reach Tanjung Pengelih\u00a0 jetty.\/Pengerang Ferry Terminal.<br \/>\n6)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 CLEAR CUSTOMS.\u00a0 Then gather together in your groups as per in the bumboat of 12pax.\u00a0 Will nominate 1 lead\/per bumboat to assist.<br \/>\n7)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Take Taxi (can seat 4passengers) to the small town.\u00a0 Travel time: about 15 minutes at $20 Malaysian Ringgit OR we might book taxi for round trip (approx. cost M$90 \u2013 100 for full day).\u00a0 At this point still Unable to get in contact with taxi operator.<\/p>\n<p>General Information &#8212;<br \/>\nOstrich farm is opened by Mr Colin Teh who is a former Singapore SAF pilot.\u00a0 Both the showroom and restaurant are located outside the farm so no admission charges to visit them.<br \/>\nDo you know the toughness of an Ostrich\u2019s egg?
